In January of 2024, Katie and Julianne went to Ireland to play some of their original songs. After a show, they were jamming with friends in a pub and Julianne sang this classic Bob Dylan song. Katie loved it so much that we worked it up as a band and put it in our Spring show in Branson.
Enjoy Julianne's take on "Blowin' in the Wind".

►LYRICS - Blowin' in the Wind
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, and how many times must the cannonballs fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind
Yes, and how many years must a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, and how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, and how many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind
La-la-laa la-la-laa...
Yes, and how many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, and how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, and how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, and how many times must the cannonballs fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind

Hi, are you coming to Glasgow again?
Cheers
Barry
See you in Köln, Germany 😊
@@barrymcleod897 Unfortunately not this time, the dates above are the final ones
Ha ha! Never mind. We can catch them when next in Scotland. Bit of a drive to Germany...😅
I don't have daughters. Three sons. But if I had daughters, I'd want daughters like these.
That’s how you raise a family! Such talent, such beauty, such harmony. You as a family make the world a better place
Actually being able to hear Julianne's mandolin loud and clear was the icing on the cake for this video!
Indeed, a surprising development: We can hear the Mandolin! 😃 May this astonishing turn of events continue...
I’m impressed with how much confidence Julianne seems to developed in her playing over the past couple years.
The Petersens give me hope that this world is not yet lost...
Music does that.
Same Feeling
It was lost since Adam.
I've been through the 60's when this was so popular and to hear the Petersen's do it again in 2024...... beautiful. Thank you and God bless.
so it was a country or a pop song back there?
It was a folk song.@@user-nr9to4xw4c
@@user-nr9to4xw4c Folk, I believe. Bob Dylan, 1962, though I liked Peter, Paul and Mary's version, along with Puff, the Magic Dragon.
@@user-nr9to4xw4c When it came out in 1962, most people considered it folk music and considered Bob Dylan to be a folk music performer. In 1965 Dylan played an electric guitar at the Newport Folk Festival, opening a doorway from folk music into rock and roll. He went through that doorway, as did others (e.g., Jerry Garcia & Bob Weir transitioned from Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions to the Grateful Dead).
@@qitrodz I'd agree it is (and was) more folk than pop with both Dylan and Peer, Paul, and Mary. I also preferred PP&M's version to Dylan's but I think it was mostly because of his more nasal sound than theirs. Plus, they harmonized beautifully, even acapella. I loved hearing it here with the mandolin & banjo. It added a whole new dimension to the sound.
Petersens are blowing in the wind.....all over the world !!!!!!
What an appropriate tribute to the greatest songwriter of our time -- Bob Dylan -- on his 83rd birthday
Yes. Thought they would say Happy Birthday to Bob. Perhaps thy were unaware today is his Birthday.
Hey, the Petersens are so cool they have two Mike Youngs as fans.
@@johnsilva9139It could indeed very well be that they were initially unaware that it was his birthday but they did congratulate him from their social media accounts.
Jimi Hendrix was a big fan of his to the point that he referred to his bass player as "Bob Dylan's grandmother" and covered his song, All Along the Watchtower, and at least one other song.
@@mikeyoung2906... Does this Mishka think that this is a Happy or Sad Song?
For two decades I've been longing to hear Alison Krauss cover this song. I do believe you just filled that hole in my soul.
Longing to hear the Petersen's perform "The Boxer" by Simon & Garfunkel" that was also previously covered by Alison Krauss and Shawn Colvin.
Julianne earned the smile knowingly she nailed the song. She strengthened her vocals compared to earlier songs.
I agree! I'm glad i'm not the only one who noticed! IMO she needed to push her voice from breaking all the time! as we see she has a beautiful voice! plus her mandolin playing seems a lot stronger, at times you could hardly hear it! But saying that Ellen tops them all, just my opinion! Now if you could do more Bob Dylan !!!
Saw this wonderful family live yesterday in Branson. It was even better than we imagined. Beautiful singing and playing, a really good time.
I just keep coming back to this song. I love how The Petersens take an iconic song and make it their own. Their arrangements are amazing. And, Julianne's vocals here are perfect for this song. As others have mentioned, the mandolin sounds great as do the harmonies from Ellen and Katie. I grew up listening to Bob Dylan and, to me, this is just a perfect cover of his song.
Dear Petersens, although I'm a die-hard metal fan, I love your music. Thank you very much for your inspiring interpretations. A ray of hope in dark times.
Indeed, IM here too from time to time, search of a little bit of light.
Have you seen the Bohemian Rhapsody video? Ridiculous talent in this group.
The smile at the end. Precious. She knew.
Musicians sometimes do that after singing or playing something perfectly, especially when it's difficult.
Absolute Best version of this song!
Best version ever. Keep visiting Ireland!!
Did you see they're heading to Europe again this summer? Ticket links in the description - including Cork!
Just went to their show in Branson yesterday. They sang this song and many, many others! Just awesome!!
I love the way this Family performs this song. They are truly a talented group!
YT needs a ❤ icon to click! You all just made my day! God bless!
Fabulous rendition of a classic. The sisters harmony is absolutely exquisite.
How lovely it is to hear Miss Julianne’s mandolin solos at the opening and close of this piece. Sometimes this delicate, enchanting instrument can be drowned out by the more assertive instruments. Another treat would be to hear Julianne play an Irish mandolin on a track or two.
They never, ever step on each other's toes. So professional.
😂
I absolutely love these beautiful kids! Incredible voices. They always do a great job.
Beautiful video and presentation.
God bless you and all here! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
God has blessed Julianne Petersen with one of the most unique and beautiful voices. Her distinctive emotional subtlety and force are in the same class as Karen Carpenter, Bjork, Victory Boyd, Lisa Gerrard, and Aurora.
Thanks! What a wonderful version.
You are an example for all of us. Your music is inspirational and your kindness towards each other is a lesson on family life.
What a fantastic arrangement, superbly performed. Thank you Petersens for a great start to the weekend.
i love everything of you! the sound, the technique in playing the instruments, the magic of the mood. Great people, Brilliant performance! ❤
They are the gift that keeps giving with their rich and velvety arrangements, wonderful musicianship and personal presence. Love to see them tour Australia.
What a brilliant and unique version of Bob Dylan's classic "Blowin in the Wind" released by the amazing family band "The Petersens" on Bob Dylan's Birthday. This wonderful version is unique from all of the others in so many good ways. It features Julianne, the youngest who has such a lovely and sweet singing voice. Then there is the awesome mandolin solo at the beginning and end of the song, the harmonies of the three lovely sisters, particularly with the beautiful "La, La, Las" in the middle of the song and the brilliant musical mastery of each one of the band and featuring Emmett, the "Amazing Dobro Man" who is right up there with the worlds greatest players, plus all of the heart-warming smiles of these genuinely beautiful and lovable decent people. And even the outro is special featuring the keen humor of Julianne and Matt. All done live, as with other great live videos that you should check out of this band who represent everything that is right with American music today. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY and THANK YOU for all of your terrific songs TO THE GREAT BOB DYLAN, and so many, many more!
Beautiful! Julianne’s voice is perfectly fitting for this song.
This entire performance is beautiful and the harmonies are out of this world!👏💙
Thank you thank you thank you . One of my all time favorites 🍁🍃⏳
This is the most unique and beautiful cover of this song I have ever heard! So incredible. I absolutely love it!
Remember when Peter, Paul and Mary sang this song decades ago. This is a beautiful rendition of it, Julianne.
Thanks for starting off the big weekend for us with a classic so old that I was young when Bob sang it. God bless our Band and all reading this. be safe this weekend
Hi Sooch. I hope everything is going well for you. As always, I wish you a happy weekend!
@@Roberto-pd8vn Thank you very much for your message Roberto. You made my day better my friend. I hope you and your loved ones enjoy this weekend
I discovered The Petersons 10 minutes ago.
I am now binging all the way through their videos.
(You really want to check out their version of Kiss Me!)
Thank you, people. Thank you.
Here's said "Kiss Me" ✨ ua-cam.com/video/Z_ewGJkTtIk/v-deo.html
Very nice and interesting arrangement. And Emmet's dobro in "dialogue" with Katie's fiddle is something special.
Can't wait to see you live in Cologne again this year in August.
Love this! especially how it's Julianne solo at the beginning and the end, brilliant arrangement! Just the right amount of everything and the way her mandolin carries the song all the way thru. Anyone else getting "Galway Girl" vibes from the opening Mandolin chop before she starts singing ? this is top notch, a very addicting song, I can't stop listening over and over again. Great job folks !
I totally agree! Plus, Dylan wrote so many great songs.
Thank you SO much, The Petersens, with each note you play, your music's voice whispers a reminder to treasure the sheer beauty in the simplicity of every day. The world could use a little more sparkle, and you all are just the ones to provide it! 🎼💫✨🌎🙏😊
Julianne confidently driving the rhythm! (No dimples and eye rolling, or big sister to the rescue). I was not expecting la-la-la in this particular song, but the vocal harmony was great. I especially like how Katie's vocals float on top. The dobro entrance was cool. Matt's touch on the guitar excellent. Just my favourite bits.
That sign just had to move to let the Petersen's do their thing in the most majestic of settings! Of course, it got put right back! Love you folks!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful light. It means more than you can imagine.
This song is even more relevant now than it was when it was written.
是的❤!
Love it! One of my favorite songs - sung by my favorite band!
Always a treat when this family's loveliness appears on UA-cam. Thank you for sharing your gifts.
Every video I watch of yours brightens my day...
Julianne, congratulations, you have a beautiful, angelic voice. Girls, your three smiles are like the sun of love.
It is so touching, I even don't' how to thank you enough... warmly to all of you and God bless you always! Chris from British Columbia Canada
The music with instruments keep alive. Good news.
Thank you Petersens. I love the woods
The smiling, the singing, and the great sounds of the string instruments have kept the Petersens looking forever young ❤
This is really a cool and beautiful arrangement. The Peterson's always do an immaculate job on a song
I love the sound of that bass
I love watching the mom playing the bass! What a cool band!
What meaningful lyrics---more than relevant even today! An excellent rendition indeed.Love&Best Wishes from INDIA!
I don't know what it is, but there is something in those smiles that makes me smile every time. Thanks for taking me back to the sixties for a few minutes.
God blessed us with this family. Emmett is the Goat. I haven’t seen him since friendship/Washington Maine, circa 2000 (ish) thank you guys. For everything
Dang sister! That's an awesome rendition. Love this.
AWESOME, beutiful, tears to my eyes, wish the whole world could hear those words and act
Starting into the weekend with a new video from "The Petersens". And with a wonderful song in a new version and arrangement 👍.
What else shall I expect ? Nothing ! I feel so good and confident, thank you Petersens !!! Greetings from Germany 😘.
The band are playing in Europe again this summer, including Köln. There are ticket links in the description 🎉
@@Liz.Newton Hi Liz, I`ve already seen. Many thanks for your hint 👍 !
Her voice was made to cover Dylan. Wow!
I was thinking the same thing. It sounds exactly like how he'd have sounded as a woman.
a wonderful version of a wonderful song. lyrics as relevant today as when they were written
I can't belive how much better Julianne's new Gibson mandolin sounds than her old Eastman. I didn't even see it at first, but the chop was so clear I started looking for what had changed. Love it.
Beautiful rendition ...... as usual from this great group of musicians . You never fail me .
It’s great to see (and hear) how much confidence Julianne has gained in the past few years. Her unique vocal style is a treat.
This was my coming-of-age song! Thank you! Wow...
They have a pretty good hand on choosing the right lead vocalist for a specific song.
I've posted very similar comments on their other videos!
Always LOVED that song. Now loving your velvety interpretation of it.
Thank you!
Like a fine wine these folks get better and better over time. Better sounding and even better looking (if that's at all possible)
Timeless...and timely.

So beautiful! We just got back from watching you all Live in Branson, MO. Love, love, love your music!!
What a gem of a song from long ago. I love to hear young artists cover songs from my youth. Your parents raised you well. This song has been covered by many great folk singers, but none better than this version! 👍👍 Love the arrangement - especially when the bass kicks in!!
Get it, Julianne!! Great presentation of a great song. Emmit can pick like I haven't heard in years...
Excellent cover of a timeless classic!

I love this song, and I love your version of it! Original singing and arrangement, bravi! And thank you. 👏❤
My dreams come true! As I always say, I never get enough of listening to her singing. The most precise and sweet voice.
I had the great privilege of hearing y’all perform this live a few weeks ago, and it was just as beautiful then (if not more so) as it is here. Julianne’s voice really fits well with these Bob Dylan songs! As always, y’all’s music is a great blessing! Thanks for sharing it with all of us!
whatever they perform, I always like it.But Julianne's vocal has brought something special into this song.
