If you're expecting this information/story to be reported by our responsible media authorities. You'll be waiting for decades. We can't expect our enemies (media/government) to both feed us and help us at the same time.
Doctors who tell you you have to eat fish to get adequate protein are ignoring the fact that most fish is contaminated with PCBs, mercury, or even flame retardants-no matter where in the world it comes from.
We can't expect our enemies (media industry) to feed and help us at the same time. Chronic illnesses are major business thriving off the ignorance from society.
As a regular life-long fish eater (small fish like sardines) I recently tested negative on two different tests for metal toxicity. And if you're so far out with metals I've no reason to suppose you're any nearer the truth with PCBs etc.
I just had split pea soup w/ potatoes and bismati rice w/ sauteed onions, mushrooms, and peppers topped with teriyaki and kung pao sauce. That's my protein.
@@daronmalakian8752 391,000 plant species doesnt translate into 391,000 meals. The point being, you need a good variety of plant material to make up one half-decent meal, by contrast a steak (and a bit of salt) is enough to satisfy anyone. Meat is always the main event, beans nuts or vegetables don't come close.
Sardines are extremely low in mercury. In addition, pretty sure her algae supplementation was not providing sufficient amounts of DHA, so that would be my guess. Of course it could have been other things like protein or some other micronutrient like bio-available calcium or iron.
Not valid. I was just told by the allergist that I’m allergic to corn and nuts. After being vegan for 10 months, I’m in, so I’m starting to get creative.
I have about 20 different allergies and am histamine intolerant. not to milk, eggs and meat though. it turned out i was zinc deficient and that made my allergies much worse. supplemented for a while, get zinc in through diet and now i dont have to care anymore. i have been vegan (wfpb) 5 years.
I have Pompholyx (also known as dyshidrotic eczema). In my case, it got so bad I couldn't even walk on carpet without thick fuzzy socks because every surface I stepped on hurt my feet. I had large patches of blistering skin that cracked and bled. One of the first suspects looked at was a nickel allergy. And one of the first results in google for this condition says it's caused by, "a reaction to something that has touched your skin - such as certain metals (particularly nickel)" I went to several very expensive dermatologists, avoided nickel in every possible way (including not wearing jeans that might have nickel snaps), and the amount of Rx creams I used was crazy. Every doctor seemed to think that it was either poor hygiene (a fungus or something) or an allergy- and I was frequently shamed by nurses and practitioners for the state of my feet (though my hands were also affected- just not as bad). Then I got a job working outside for 8+ hrs a day and suddenly my feet started getting better. The difference was remarkable. I started doing some research and Vitamin D is actually an essential vitamin when it comes to epithelial cells adhering to each other. The increase in vitamin D by being outside basically allowed my skin to keep itself together. It turns out that my mother and several cousins with similar or the same problems also test low for Vit d. in their blood work. That whole time I was just lacking a key component to helping my skin maintain it's cohesion. These days I still get occasional blisters (don't work outside anymore), but I take a D3 supplement and I can touch or wear as much nickel as the next guy without it causing a problem. I lived with this debilitating issue for almost 4 years before stumbling onto an answer. I'm not saying this person doesn't have a legitimate allergy... but my experience is that doctors aren't all-knowing wizards, and anyone who recommends that someone with a nickel allergy eat fish doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about.
Went vegan last July. Started with a personal trainer a few weeks ago and he expressed concern about my diet and told me I may need more protein. I’ve been tracking my meals and he seemed shocked when I told him I was averaging about 120g of protein per day. Then I told him that I was in 5 pills (medications & supplements) per my doctor’s orders before I switched and I’m taking none now. My blood chemistry was “perfect” at my physical in November. He was so shocked he didn’t know what to say!
@@cshaffrey3438 Lol no it's not. You have no idea about strongman sport or sports in general. He's just the strongest vegan, not the strongest man.
@@daronmalakian8752 thanks for telling me that. Got to admit I was wrong there. But that doesn't make veganism a bad diet - world class athletes need to consume far more calories and protein than we do
Systemic contact dermatitis to nickel is not controversial. While it primarily manifests with skin rashes, including hand eczema, it is not uncommon for the person to also have symptoms of headaches, muscle aches, joint aches, fever, and diarrhea. It can happen from metal plates that are used in fixing fractures, and also to oral surgical implants and yes the person has to go on a low nickel diet when this happens.
I have a case that's some food for thought. I have a mother with Hasimotos and Celiac. This means she can't have *any* legumes, flackseed or seitan/gluten/most grains. If she went vegan her options would pretty much be vegetables, corn, potatoes, fruit, nuts, mushrooms, quorn and oats. She could probably get her calories but I do not think she'd be healthy

Great quote, but I've heard it attributed to so many different people! A version often attributed to Ghandi includes an additional first stage:"First it is ignored."

We honestly do not need any more science or data to confirm that a plant-based diet is superior. I have a nickel allergy as well and it's a tough situation - when I first found out a couple years ago I also went on a low-nickel diet and stopped wearing jewelry with nickel, however, it is true that a low nickel diet will definitely limit what you can eat in the vegetable choices (just like a gluten free diet limits what vegan meat alternatives you can eat) - i just choose to ignore the eczema whenever i eat too much of a high-nickel food or gluten.
Meat alternatives not gluten free? For processed foods I suppose but beans and lentils are naturally gluten free. I haven't eaten any wheat in years but I eat beans everyday
I am vegan and gluten intolerant and I don't think it is hard to eat with these "restrictions". Just cook your own meals. Some situations in life are really tough, one that comes to my mind: being a single mother with 2 jobs and still struggling to make ends meet. That does look very hard to me. But being vegan and gluten-intolerant???? It doesn not come any close to the pain felt caused by these horrible cramps I used to have on my period when I used to eat of everything. I can confidently say life is good now :-)
Rachael Tucker I have been gluten free for 10 months and have had no problems! Yes you can’t eat impossible, field roast, tofurky or gardein but you can eat Beyond if you want something processed..or just certain legumes, much healthier and cheaper. I have even done vegan keto for months and haven’t complained about it! If you keep thinking it’s hard and your choices are limited, you will experience just that. Try to be creative and do as much as you can with what you are allowed to eat. When I went vegan 7 years ago I sat down and wrote a long list of meals I could prepare, several pages long. People kept telling me that it’s a limited diet and that I would starve, but I had recipes for months and I was having fun cooking and experimenting, not concentrating on the limitations.
Mic is spot on regarding former vegans. In my opinion, those that try to be vegan and can’t maintain for a variety of reasons is due to a personal choice, not some weird reaction from vegan diets. Vegan diets are arguably the most healthy diet one can possible have. Great video Mic, always enjoy your very well vetted counter arguments!
The way Mic is saying seitan reminds me of Dana Carvey's SNL Church Lady. "And who is providing you with a good animal-free source of protein?" "Could it be..... SEITAN!" Thanks for all the vegan advocacy you do, Mic!
I know someone who was trying to go vegan, but her dr told her she had to eat chicken because "she was becoming bulimic" She seemed to think it was some kind of nutrient deficiency and not an eating disorder. Most Drs seem to think the answer to any health problem if you're vegan is eating meat.
@@Tideman11 But it's not addressing the real issue, which is her puking up everything she eats, and eating the chicken is just making her feel guilty about the bird she's eating on top of her other emotional issues. She actually was starting to get better before she talked to this Dr, because she thought she was doing a good thing for the environment, the people, and the planet, it was something that was building her self esteem. I think it would've been better if this Dr had referred her to an actual nutritionist and a therapist instead of giving her advice without knowing anything about what he was talking about. I don't think he actually knew what bulimia is.
and most doctors would be right.... most people are not educate enough to eat a vegan diet and supply the body with all it needs. If you don't know what you are doing it's better to just eat omnivorous, even if you do know what you are doing it's still better to just eat omnivorous. Veganism can be made to work, but it's too much hassle and not worth it.
In that case I might acutally agree with you. Bulimia is more of a mental disorder than a physical one. Well unless there was something purely physical that started it in this case... Like the food failing to satisfy you, which of course lead to overeating. Or if the digestion doesnt work properly (which is almost garanteed related to the food in some way) so you physically feel the urge to throw up, or you want to relieve the actual pain it causes. Im actually a bit in doubt because there could potentially be something physical that started it (also a chance it was not). Ive tried a vegan diet myself before, and one of the main problems was constantly getting hungry despite eating a lot. I dont have that problem when eating meat. But vegan foods, even that roghly match the calorie content of meat arent even half as satisfying
Wow, i went wfpb 3 yrs ago by going back to eating what my culture (chinese) eat lots of: rice, barley & veggies. I love eating korean meals too w/ mixed grain rice, veggie side dishes & soups as well as japanese meals w/ white rice+natto+miso soup (soy haters begone) huahahahaha🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dear fellows, it all about the gut flora and how you digest your food and what you absorb from it. We all have different gut flora. So we all absorb food differently and have different food intolerances. That’s why some people feel great on the vegan diet while some get sick all the time. The same is for carnivore diet. The same is for keto diet. Believe me. I am immunologist. Just stay away from the processed food and try to do combination diet and you’re gonna be fine. And of course - the more plant based you are, the better. Enjoy
My mom had this exact problem when she went vegan. She had a horrible rash and when she went to the doctor he told her that she has a nickel allergy from eating too much soy. She decided to stick with the diet anyway and slowly reintroduce soy products and now she is completely fine.
This actually might be a good time to reach out to her. Since this isn't just a huge money making scam she'd probably be receptive to trying things out.
I have a past boss who has an autoimmune disease where she has to drain her legs every night and her doctor said she has to eat animal fats. She mostly eats grass fed animals, and vegetables - grains can kill her, and even fruit carbs bothers her. So there are people out there who have to eat animals, BUT, since she had to have such a special diet she was completely respectful and supportive of veganism!
Everyone in my family have nickel allergy. I have been vegan for 5 years, vegetarien for 2-3 years before that. Never had any nickel reaction from vegan food, may be cause I don't eat canned foods at all, only fresh, dried and frozen foods.
There is a lot of complexity with this girl’s case and it’s awful to be so misleading with that big bold title. I can’t say how many times someone has heard I was vegan and they responded “I heard about someone who was vegan and it caused a lot of health problems so they had to quit”. No specifics or other factors causing problems, just grasping for a reason not to do it.

@@Heidi_137 Same here. I've been vegan for four years now and haven't had any common illness (flus, fevers, etc.) In four years. Its no coincidence, a whole food plant based diet is superior. Sadly, some people have not yet realized this information. Happy veganuary.😊
Hello Mic the Vegan. I am a vegan and I have a nickel allergy. It is very much REAL. I can't eat beans or leafy greens or soy or any whole grains, only white wheat and rice. It is very restrictive, but I am still vegan and always will be. It does not impair a person's ability to be vegan, but it does make it harder. Symptoms are itching, gastrointestinal symptoms, dizziness, muscle and joint pain, and flu-like symptoms.
How do you do it? I can't find a healthy way. My doctor said no nuts, no bush beans/soy, no peas/long beans, no brassicas or spinach, no alliums, no grains but highly refined wheat, rice, and corn. No coconut, no nightshades.... like.... it's mushrooms, seitan, and cucubits?
Did I just reach a new level on the vegan scale, when you showed those velvet beans (whatever they where called), and I immediately thought "oh they are pretty"? Nevermind, I'm probably just weird 😂
While the duckweed discovery is good news, there was no B12 issue to resolve; we already had B12 in bacteria. Bacteria are neither less natural nor less vegan than plants.
@@christofmorphius6719 Spirulina (and I think chlorella too) do not contain B12 but B12 analogues which block your B12 uptake. This is also the case with many sea vegetables, so I wouldn't rely on them as sources, and I would take an actual B12 source that I was relying on several hours apart from eating any of these. Never heard of wheatgrass or coconut as sources; dirt, yes!
A lot of former vegans aren't very imaginative in terms of adapting their diet to specific issues. There are hundreds of available grains/legumes/fruits/veggies/tubers, it's remarkably simple to navigate around a wheat intolerance, or a nickel allergy, or a difficulty with digesting fats, tutti quanti.
Actually, at the present time, despite decades of propaganda telling them they must eat meat and dairy daily, the trend in places like America is more low-meat diets, more vegetarians, and more vegans. As people get smarter about a balanced vegan diet and there's more social support for it, it will get easier and easier. And we really have to slash consumption of beef, mutton, and goat meat in order to save Earth's ecosystems, so that's another upside of this shift.
The videos put out on this channel are consistently excellent. The research, facts, presentation and production are all of a high level, unlike many other ‘sources’ 🌱💚💡🧠
I think we need to understand that vegan diet/plant based diet is NOT for everyone. I developed food allergy, something I never had before in my life. My only option was to continue with my plant based diet and avoiding those kinds of food and supplement with vitamins (Why??) or re-introduce fish and eggs. My gut improved immediately and the allergies cleared. I still don’t eat meat products, milk cheese etc, but I eat fish and occasional eggs. Everyone knows their own body, don’t make those that follow a lifestyle that works for them health wise feel bad about it, let’s respect our personal choices. Peace.

A consultant in the UK and Irish health system is, I believe, the equivalent of an attending physician. So a hospital department has a consultant as the head of the department unless it is a university hospital and then a couple of registrars and finally some junior doctors.
I appreciate the work you do for calling out the bogus claims. I follow plant based lifestyle myself and am positive people just want attention. I follow many social media pages for vegan and plant based diets. When I read people say they swim an hr a day, strict with vegan diet, and run an hr a day and DO NOT LOSE WEIGHT. Hate to call people liars but i'm sure people like attention on them in a thread.
This is old but I'm binge watching your videos, lol. But honestly it's fascinating watching those who quit due to health issues. I was vegetarian, developed mystery severe gastro issues (think vomiting for 8 to 12 hours a day, tho my record was 16!!), and ended up just eating anything high in calorie that was easy to get, followed by only being able to eat sugar free jello (admittedly vegetarian) and ice lollies -.- Anyways, fast forwards a few years later of attempts to expand my diet again, and I've recently gone vegan. But I will always sympathise with those just trying to handle issues, especially severe stuff. My body totally stopped digesting anything more solid than ice, and took a long time to get to a point of being able to eat a lot of foods, and it SUCKS to either have no say in what you eat or to feel like you don't due to not having access to decent nutritionists. Anyways, thanks for being sympathetic on the videos I've seen of people quitting due to health reasons. I hope they all are able to find ways to make veganism work again.
thank god she doesnt have cancer but its so sad that people do all this weird shit in the hopes to be healthy and what society tells them is "clean" or "detoxed" just eat plants, exercise, and be kind to your body. its like the whole "vaginal steaming" trend that started just because we're told that our bodies cant sufficiently take care of themselves. and then people get first degree burns and hurt themselves immensely. in other words, the vagina is self-cleaning, your colon is supposed to have poop in it, humans are meant to eat plants, and your body knows how to cleanse itself of toxins. i pray for an end to this trend of pseudoscience
There is nickel free stainless steel cookware that will also lower nickel intake. It has to be 18/0 or 21/0 as the second number is the nickel content. The company making it is homichef. Also there are nickel free silverware options as well. Cooking acidic food in regular stainless steel can significantly up your nickel intake.
Well if she did get scurvy thats proof in itself something was seriously wrong with whatever diet she was on. That is the direct cause of scurvy (lack of vitamin C which you should have got from the diet). A consultant is a Dr title in the UK. It's a senior hospital based physician and they have a specialization. Usually in the UK you see a general practitioner who is like your family doctor and if there is enough of an issue then you get sent to a big hospital to see the consultant who specialises in a certain area. I've only seen a neurology consultant and he was older for sure. I think they've done something like 11-13 years of study just to qualify as a consultant. They're pretty high up but I'm not sure what the US equivalent is. Resident? Is it a resident?? I don't know
I'm a 31 year old man who had suffered from a dietary nickel allergy for years. Went vegan it got worse. Went back to omnivore diet but kept looking for answers and found that melatonin can reverse the effects of nickel. Along with certain foods can remove heavy metals in the body (Cilantro is a good one) and pistachios are also high in melatonin. Got my nickel allergy under control since I've been taking melatonin every night and now I've now vegan for a little over a year and feeling better than ever with no rash. The only thing that still gets me is chocolate which sucks....

The vegan diet is super restrictive, there’s only 391,000 plant species to choose from.
About the same number of animal species humans can eat.
And those 391,000 plant species are definitely conveniently available in every place and country, right?
@@daronmalakian8752 391,000 plant species doesnt translate into 391,000 meals. The point being, you need a good variety of plant material to make up one half-decent meal, by contrast a steak (and a bit of salt) is enough to satisfy anyone. Meat is always the main event, beans nuts or vegetables don't come close.
Nova Europa rice and beans is more nutritious than a steak but we need a “good variety of plants to make a decent meal” ok bud lmao

Sunflower seeds are good.
And one of the first results in google for this condition says it's caused by, "a reaction to something that has touched your skin - such as certain metals (particularly nickel)"
I went to several very expensive dermatologists, avoided nickel in every possible way (including not wearing jeans that might have nickel snaps), and the amount of Rx creams I used was crazy.
Thank you sharing this. The data is useful
I have this same condition but unfortunately it's only gotten worse and worse no matter what I've tried. I'm about to give up
Good to know, I’ve known ppl who have very low D with devastating health issues too and it’s not to b taken lightly. I’m glad u were vigilant!

“going vegan destroyed my brain... oh wait, i never had one to begin with kekw”

Did you try going high vitamin c?
I am vegan and gluten intolerant and I don't think it is hard to eat with these "restrictions". Just cook your own meals. Some situations in life are really tough, one that comes to my mind: being a single mother with 2 jobs and still struggling to make ends meet. That does look very hard to me. But being vegan and gluten-intolerant???? It doesn not come any close to the pain felt caused by these horrible cramps I used to have on my period when I used to eat of everything. I can confidently say life is good now :-)
Lucie Nani I agree totally, I’m both vegan and gluten-free and it’s easy if you’re able to cook your own food.
"And who is providing you with a good animal-free source of protein?"
"Could it be..... SEITAN!"
Thanks for all the vegan advocacy you do, Mic!
Love that you provide possible solutions for this rare sounding situation! 12:02 made me laugh way too hard! 😅
I know someone who was trying to go vegan, but her dr told her she had to eat chicken because "she was becoming bulimic" She seemed to think it was some kind of nutrient deficiency and not an eating disorder. Most Drs seem to think the answer to any health problem if you're vegan is eating meat.
If it helps them to gain weight, it is not bad advice.

This actually might be a good time to reach out to her. Since this isn't just a huge money making scam she'd probably be receptive to trying things out.
She sounds confused. Very silly woman.
Sice she was prepared to sell her story to the Daily Mail, I wouldn't assume the subject of money-making scams was irrelevant here.

Your cognitive dissonance is astounding. Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.
@@tinknal6449 Ok you got me, I'm fascinated by what I said that's so astounding to you.
Sounds like a bs article, I wonder who actually wrote it? Fish also contains mercury and nano plastics but I guess that’s OK for her new diet?
Thank you. When I saw the article, I really wanted to know what you thought of it.
Those fish puns though 😂
if i can't open a jar, my dad blames it on me being vegan lol
If you can't open a jar, you are probably about to become a corpse, listen to your father, he means well.
@@WorldWideDashCams relax man, it's not that serious? i just have sweaty hands lol,

thank god she doesnt have cancer but its so sad that people do all this weird shit in the hopes to be healthy and what society tells them is "clean" or "detoxed"
just eat plants, exercise, and be kind to your body. its like the whole "vaginal steaming" trend that started just because we're told that our bodies cant sufficiently take care of themselves. and then people get first degree burns and hurt themselves immensely.
in other words, the vagina is self-cleaning, your colon is supposed to have poop in it, humans are meant to eat plants, and your body knows how to cleanse itself of toxins. i pray for an end to this trend of pseudoscience
going vegan ruined my chances in the meat industry
Wait, whole brains are bad?
There is nickel free stainless steel cookware that will also lower nickel intake. It has to be 18/0 or 21/0 as the second number is the nickel content. The company making it is homichef. Also there are nickel free silverware options as well. Cooking acidic food in regular stainless steel can significantly up your nickel intake.
Could she have gotten scurvy?
Well if she did get scurvy thats proof in itself something was seriously wrong with whatever diet she was on. That is the direct cause of scurvy (lack of vitamin C which you should have got from the diet). But I find it personally unlikely that a vegan would get scurvy because aren't they supposed to eat lots of fruits and veggies? I thought it was a disease you got from a pure carnivore diet if anything...
Comparing processed fake meat to sardines 🤣🤣🤣
How do you know when someone is an ex-Vegan?
Wait five minutes, and they’ll tell you.
Lol absolutely correct. Wow
Juice 🙂
yep, it's the same way you spot a vegan
There's been a "What the Health" debunk article on a Facebook page called "Information Is Beautiful" . It looks like a big task, but could you form any thoughts on it?
Anne why don’t you find out for yourself? Mic the vegan I’ve noticed, has cited studies to make people think they back up his claims, and used statistics out of context or used values to back up his claims that were really anomalies. Just letting you know, don’t think people are credible just because they mention studies. Look into them.
I'm so thankful that you are wearing Grandpas sweater. He'd be so proud. (sarcasm) Grandpa sweater shade. 😅
a vegan can wear a shower curtain and still look hot.
I don't know
"Dr" Emma looks like she has trouble holding her head up
I'm a 31 year old man who had suffered from a dietary nickel allergy for years.
Her Libido definitely went back to level 9000 raging fire 🔥 after eating fish.

Hey! I am wanting to try a Vegan challenge for a month. I want to try to live a month eating vegan food, but I don't know what's vegan or not. Any suggestions or personal experiences as to how y'all stayed constant on the vegan diet?
Peace & Love according to vegans, you must take off all your clothes and eat things that have no relation to animals
Who has time for that BS...?
Ikr, the vegan diet is pointless.
Considering a no oil diet what kind of salad dressing do you use?

My libido increased dramatically when I quit veganism.
@@AliceRoche-ii2ke you were never vegan
