My husband and I went vegan overnight on June 7th, 2017. I was 280lbs at the time, I lost weight, then gained back, had a baby. Now I'm over 200lbs. I'm a big vegan lol and my husband is slim and was slim before we went vegan. I don't think I'm in any danger of having a protein deficiency 😂
Take a block of Super Firm tofu, cut into cubes, air fry without oil, toss with some hot sauce (I enjoy the yellow bird organic Habanero and Ghost pepper sauces) and snack on throughout the day. 70 Grams of protein right there, more than enough for most people.
Only a child would say 70g of protein is more than enough 😂. As a 200lbs weightlifter I need to eat over 200g a day. Can't maintain a high level of muscle mass on 70g😂.
Veganism isn't a lifestyle, but an ethical philosophy. Being vegan and living according to the philosophy is the lifestyle part. We do a disservice to veganism by calling it a lifestyle, where we once again make it about us and not the animals
March 17th will be 1 decade vegan. I eradicated my unhealthy relationship with food, lost and kept off 95lbs, dissolved breast and uterine fibroids, eradicated beginning symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, eradicated lifelong suicidal depression and panic disorder, AND I COULD STILL GO ON.
Those comments are so triggering to me as a fluffy vegan who has struggled with an ED. People of all sorts constantly try to conflate the two. It can be extremely isolating. I can only imagine it's a thousand times worse for a famous woman.
I mean the fact that they said "boy toy" is a red flag. I've been vegan for almost 3 decades. I'v been everywhere from 170-130 and everywhere in between for 30 years. I'm 5'8 for context. Most of the higher weight was associated w when I was married to an abusive man for 5 years and wasn't eating more whole food plant based , not working out, drinking a lot and very depressed. There are all kinds of factors at play.
I blame her nutritionist- they are obviously giving her bad advice. She just needs more calories in her diet. I didn't even know she was vegan but I had seen she was quite skinny. I have the opposite problem, I'm vegan and I put weight on! Trying to get rid of a stone in 2025 :(
Good luck! I have put on a stone (on a vegan diet) since I started doing 5K runs. Probably a bit more muscle mass, but the jiggly stuff on my bum is definitely not muscle :-D
Whilst I don't think that there would be an association with veganism increasing risk of ED. I do think that veganism may be attractive for those that already have issues with how they view food. Veganism may be a nice safe place to hide for some.
Not that that's the case for Ariana, being vegan over a decade. She's obviously changed things up. Perhaps being in hollywood has added extra demand. Having both this and her music to concentrate on. Exerting to much energy, and not adjusting for calorie intake, you're gonna lose weight.
Nice, I'm a WFPB/Vegan health coach and I'd love to analyze your diet to help you get to normal weight! My guess is oils/processed vegan foods are the culprit :) Feel free to msg me anytime!
These kind of subjective rumours normally spawn from those who lack dietary intelligence and just assume that thin people are cheating somehow when in reality they are living a superior lifestyle and are properly educated in exercise and nutrition.
I truly laughed out loud when they said "Dr. [whatever his name was]...a plastic surgeon". Don't get me wrong, plastic surgeon have to have tons of medical training as it involves a lot of risky procedures but nutrition? I loved Wicked!
I didnt lose weight going vegan, neither did my husband, my mom, my daughter, we actually all gained some weight since we went vegan because we ate more deliciously than ever...we were basically just eating what we ate before veganized and then started coming up with new recipes and going above and beyond lol. I am back at my starting point but anyway Ariana grande is thin because she clearly is suffering from an eating disorder and using veganism as a cop out even though she's not vegan at all...vegans are vegans for the animals yet she wears fur and has been seen promoting foods with animal products over the years. This is a diet for her in that case and from what I've seen she eats pretty much just low calorie food like vegetables seaweed and black coffee as her staples.
Been vegan since same year as AG... 2013. I wouldn't bet on any celeb but I if I had to I'd say after 10 years she's more likely than not to be a lifelong vegan now. She sounds mature as well. We've got to get away from hearsay anecdotes in any case. Veganism is a problematic word because it makes it about us as opposed to a moral obligation to stop exploiting non-human animals, which we all have here. It never has been a "diet" or a lifestyle choice. Its just a basic understanding of non-human animals and their rights.
very few people consider that there are many other mental health issues that can lead to weight loss. E.g., high stress and depression. When I went through the break-up of my last relationship, I lost A LOT of weight. I lose weight every time I am going through a lot of stress. Meanwhile other people gain weight when stressed. People respond differently to stress
Vegans trying to gaslight people into believing she isn't wasting away is wild. Go ahead and "save" the animals. But don't act like people wasting away isn't common for vegans.
When I was I was eating SAD I was over 80kg overweight now I am vegan WFPB I have already lost 40kg in 18 months. It's not hard to lose weight eating this way and I don't know why this society has such a facination on peoples weight. It's no ones business but yours. Unless your doctor is unhappy with your weight then there is no reason to worry.
She's a super model, and they have a great incentive to be thin. If someone paid me millions of dollars to be thin and to wear some clothes and pose to a camera, I'd be super thin no matter what diet.
Been plant based over 7 years now, I’m way healthier now than I was before. I’m 35, work in a mechanical workshop. I’m 178cm, 115kg got a full head of hair and a large beard. I got a high BMI but I don’t look obese, more like strong man fat. The consensus is that I’m probably the strongest one in the workshop so I don’t think I got a protein deficiency 😅. I don’t really count anything i eat but it’s a lot of beans, oats and veggies. I wouldn’t consider myself Vegan but I’m 100% plant based and I try to avoid animal products when It’s practical.
Seems pretty clear that there's underlying issues. Anorexia can affect anyone. Ridiculous how this is blamed on her plant-based diet. I hope she'll get the support she needs. ❤
as someone with an ED past, it is clear that ariana is struggling with one. it also looks like cynthia ervivo may also have one as she has dropped a lot of weight as well. this is not a vegan issue. i would encourage you to look into EDs and people covering up EDs with veganism because its obvious that her weight is not healthy.
I've been Vegan for eight years, and, I weighed five pounds more, today, than I did yesterday. Consequently, I feel better today, mentally and physically, so, perhaps it's the circumstances of the person, sometimes, rather than strictly the choice to eat or not eat animal products. I love how there's always these before and after a plant based diet pictures, in isolation, but, despite millions of Vegans existing worldwide, there's apparently not a single positive before and after photo to be found. I guess everyone who eats omnivore is in perfect health, so, why show the multiple millions of obese and clearly unhealthy people in a side-by-side with their younger counterparts, right?
i am vegan for 15 years and before that lifetime vegetarian ( research into animal cruelty show its pointless to eat eggs and cow milk and buy leather and wool and silk ...stella mcartney and other less expensive designers have some beautiful solutions for clothing) ...i have been thinner and fatter depending on how much fat and sugar ( good fat and good sugar still makes me fat) i add to my food and how much exercise i do ..its not rocket science..all this fuss is meat eaters know they are paying for cruelty and its painful for them so they double down with the cognitive dissonance ...not helping ofcourse ..ahhh the human condition of compulsive thinking generates nightmarish behavior ..❤️ high quality stevia and keeping my fat to 30 grams a day keeps me thin and happy! and the two cows and seventeen stray dogs and four stray cats who live in my house and garden is my tiny contribution to the happiness of other species..its easier than it sounds if you get creative and have the help of other animal lovers ❤️
Ariana is very slim but then a lot of celebrities are, I aspire to be slimmer too like those chic Parisian ladies, maybe one day I'll get there (!) Very slim women like Audrey Hepburn was only look "anorexic" because everybody else is chubby or worse. Ariana's paler make-up makes her look slimmer too which would inflame the wicked intrusive gossips, I say leave the lovely Ariana alone to deal with whatever she needs to deal with, her weight and diet are nobody's business. Thank you Mic for being respectful. I've just remembered that when a lot of Indian and Pakistani immigrants first came to London they were all skinny, and some of them still are. Being slim used to be normal for both men and women until a few short decades ago, just look at old photos up to the 1970s. I've been fat and I've been slim, I've been unhealthily slim on a carnivore diet and I've now been healthily slim for 5 years on a WFPB way of living, and I know which I prefer.
Been an ethical vegan and strict WFPB eater for over 35 years. I’m thin bc A) I’m atrophied due to auto accident injuries & resulting disabilities, and B) - and mostly, bc I don’t eat garbage and don’t overeat.
Bryan Johnson, that billionaire vegan who wants to live forever. Had essentially perfect health markers and people would still comment that he looked pale and gaunt. Bryan ended up having procedures to make his face fuller and increased his calories slightly to look fitter and healthier. Because he's also trying to inspire other people to be healthy. He remarked that many people are shallow about health, the data was 2nd fiddle to his appearance for a lot of people.
Been vegan 30yrs and now am 51. No issues at all with health. Blood work great which my Dr's etc always comment on. I think it can be very hard for people in the public eye who always have to be beautiful all the time. And none of us are getting any younger. So often this pressure leads to eating disorders with the famous. So perhaps she has an ED? Many people do, vegans and non-vegans. But when you're a vegan everyone always blames everything on veganism. If she got overweight, I'm sure people would blame it on her veganism too. Actually they probably wouldn't as she'd be just like the average person these days, so they'd think she was then really healthy and doing well.
I haven’t watched Wicked yet, but I've been conspicuous of the amount of hate the two leads have been getting online. This video just might have answered me why. Thank you. ❤
its difficult to understand that not paying for cruelty to animals is controversial and 'cute and all..but priorities' preventing cruelty in this world for everyone is the priority..isnt it? human rights ..animal rights... how can this be controversial ..these people must have amputated their empathy and rational thought ..there seems to be a lot of them
I have more healthy weight now than any time I was eating meat, and my metabolism is as fast as they come. I was down to 120lbs at 6 feet before I quit eating meat.
I'm 100+ lbs. heavier than when I last ate meat over 20 years ago. (I hate myself, not the animals.) People will say anything if it allows them to bash veganism.
These types of comments imply 2 false things: 1) Veganism is a diet. FALSE. 2) There's only 1 vegan diet. FALSE. Veganism is an ethical stance against animal abuse and exploitation. We don't eat animals, their byproducts, or purchase them when at all avoidable. You can be a junk food vegan or an optimally healthy whole food plant-based vegan, and everything in between. It's not a diet, even less 1 diet. People who know nothing about nutrition (i.e. most people) will be unhealthy on any diet they choose until they educate themselves. Again, as I always say, healthy nutrition should be taught to *_everyone_* in HS, science-based, unbiased. P.S. Close to 6 years vegan and kicked 2 major health issues which started pre-vegan. It's ridiculously easy to be healthy without animal products.
I've been vegan for over 13 years. A year ago I lost a substantial amount of weight and already being slim, I looked gaunt. Everyone blamed it on veganism. No one ever wonders if maybe it could be something else, like perhaps parasites. Which it was and once I healed, my weight went right back to normal. When meat eaters get sick or become overweight, people will list every possible cause, except their diet. Meanwhile an animal-based diet is the leading cause of the leading cause of deaths in the US - heart disease.
I know you’re young, but some perspective could help: “Late stage capitalism” has been a phrase used in political thought for over 50 years, throughout more than 50 years. When I started college in 1975 there were scads of books on “Late Stage Capitalism.” And socialists have talked about late stage capitalism for at least 100 years. Apparently the late stage of capitalism is lasting longer than early and mid stagers combined.
As an ex-PBD myself (maintained it for 7 years), the reason I quit was partly because of esthetics and potentially health. Even though my biomarkers were fine (a bit low on B12 but still in the normal range), I developed puffy eyes and I looked very scrawny… I’ve changed my diet to a Mediterranean one and seems I’ve been able to keep all the benefits without any of the minor side effects of my previous lifestyle. Eating animal products can have nutritional benefits if eaten with much moderation (particularly fish) but it’s definitely not necessary to live a healthy life for every individual, though perhaps for some is.
She’s always been slim bodied and it’s disgusting how people are comfortable commenting on her body in such horrible ways. They need to leave her alone ❤
Thank you for covering this topic respectfully. I didn't even know that Ariana Grande has been following a vegan diet! As for me, I'm a 12-year vegan with a binge eating disorder, so I've never been a typical "skinny vegan." And yes, I've had binge eating disorder my entire life, not from going vegan. Ariana Grande is right that it's completely inappropriate for strangers to comment on other people's weight, because you never know what someone else is going through!
Stress can have two consequences on appetite. Some people stress eat whilst others lose their appetite. Ariana has had a freaking busy year. That's got to be stressful .
Considering at least 40 percent of the U.S. population is overweight or obese, I would NOT take anything the popular media or her fans say seriously. So many people I've known (not famous) who've lost weight on a vegan, whole-foods diet, also hear these types of comments about how they look ill after reaching a healthy weight. Ridiculous. Thanks for addressing this issue.
Almost plant based. Been struggling with weight and muscle for years. It's not the plants. Something is wrong with my ability to eat enough to fit my activity level. It would be like this no matter what I ate. It was like this before I transitioned. I have a genetic condition that is contributing to this - and being on the autism spectrum disorder, G.I. complications are notorious here. I get so tired of people judging how I eat. Actually, any quality of life I have is because I eat plants! It may not be fixing everything but at least I feel better with the transition than I would be feeling without. The stigma is real.
When someone well-known either gains or loses weight it makes headlines! That has nothing to do with diet but everything to do with the fact, that Ariana Grande is part of an industry where thin is as important as talent.
Vegan since 2019 and currently weighing in at 104kg. The worst thing I’ve experienced is my knee, which is currently elevated after surgery. However, that’s not due to protein issues-I’ve torn my PCL and subluxed my shoulders three times. Guess my joints just couldn’t handle all the plant power! 🌱💪
I find it funny when people make assumptions about vegans having eating disorders. I know it happens, but I had very disordered eating as an omnivore because I couldn’t kept myself at a healthy weight no matter what I did. I finally discovered a WFPB oil-free diet and now I eat until I’m full. I don’t have to compensate for eating a meal by starving for part of the day, or purging physically or with exercise like I used to. I’m finally free from the roller coaster that eating animal products and oils caused. Then I learned more about animal farming and consider myself vegan as well. ❤🌱
To be fair, in her recent video she's not as thin as when she was in Wicked. I was so surprised but it's probably because of how strenuous making a movie can be.

She got her dream role but then also went through an entire divorce and then entered a heavily scrutinized relationship. And then dropped a whole album and went on a crazy press tour. If you’re someone who forgets to eat when you’re stressed and you’re already extremely thin…you’re toast in like a month
I've been vegan for 28 years, and all of my serious health problems existing at the time disappeared within one year.
Your baby is sucking protein out of your body. It comes first and you could very well suffer on too little protein and DHA even if you didn't before.
You are that's why you have high fat mass, and low muscle mass.
Take a block of Super Firm tofu, cut into cubes, air fry without oil, toss with some hot sauce (I enjoy the yellow bird organic Habanero and Ghost pepper sauces) and snack on throughout the day.
70 Grams of protein right there, more than enough for most people.
Omg the air fryer makes the best tofu I've ever had. Just perfect texture.
@@MtnGirll I know, I pretty much only use Air fryer now for making tofu
Yes! I also like it with liquid aminos and Date Lady BBQ sauce :)
I never thought this would happen, but I am so totally addicted to tofu. All these recipes make me hungry.
Only a child would say 70g of protein is more than enough 😂. As a 200lbs weightlifter I need to eat over 200g a day. Can't maintain a high level of muscle mass on 70g😂.
12 years vegan, perfect bloodwork, no supplements except B12.
Veganism isn't a lifestyle, but an ethical philosophy.
Being vegan and living according to the philosophy is the lifestyle part.
We do a disservice to veganism by calling it a lifestyle, where we once again make it about us and not the animals
Well said. Thank you.🌱☮🌱
March 17th will be 1 decade vegan.
That's awesome news! Would you please share your blood type with me? Trying to figure out if I should do the blood type diet.
Excellent!
Those comments are so triggering to me as a fluffy vegan who has struggled with an ED. People of all sorts constantly try to conflate the two. It can be extremely isolating. I can only imagine it's a thousand times worse for a famous woman.
It's ridiculous
I mean the fact that they said "boy toy" is a red flag. I've been vegan for almost 3 decades. I'v been everywhere from 170-130 and everywhere in between for 30 years. I'm 5'8 for context. Most of the higher weight was associated w when I was married to an abusive man for 5 years and wasn't eating more whole food plant based , not working out, drinking a lot and very depressed. There are all kinds of factors at play.
Ariana is a lovely young woman who has been horribly judged her whole life.
Me too!
Me too!
I stopped eating meat in 1997 and have now been vegan for 19+ years. Almost 45 yrs old. "End stage veganism" 🤡
12 years vegan and no health issues.
You are right. Many with ED will claim to be vegetarian or vegan as an excuse for not eating various things.
12 year vegan and always will be. 60 pounds overweight but all my blood work is immaculate :)
Spread for me.
Nice, I'm a WFPB/Vegan health coach and I'd love to analyze your diet to help you get to normal weight! My guess is oils/processed vegan foods are the culprit :) Feel free to msg me anytime!
I've gained 25 pounds since going vegan, most of it is muscle...Vegan 7 years, and still waiting for the protein deficiency to kick in!
16 years vegan been an ideal weight my whole life, still biking to work everyday. Where’s my headlines.
I'm sorry that I'm going to say this, but it looks like Ariana may be having an eating disorder. That has nothing to do with her being vegan.
These kind of subjective rumours normally spawn from those who lack dietary intelligence and just assume that thin people are cheating somehow when in reality they are living a superior lifestyle and are properly educated in exercise and nutrition.
I’m almost at 11 years… when is my vegan weight loss coming?! 🤣
She never did this with meat eaters that are anorexic. Blaming veganism for a weight loss she doesn’t deem as attractive is weird.
I truly laughed out loud when they said "Dr. [whatever his name was]...a plastic surgeon". Don't get me wrong, plastic surgeon have to have tons of medical training as it involves a lot of risky procedures but nutrition?
I loved Wicked!
When the norm is to be obese, anything less than that seems unnatural
Well, I've been vegan for 15 years now, and through this time I put on 15 kgs of muscles...
There are plenty of fat vegans. This is more like anorexia and “medications”.
So now protein powders are bad? What about all the weightlifters to get massive amounts of their protein from protein powders, and shakes
Vegans trying to gaslight people into believing she isn't wasting away is wild. Go ahead and "save" the animals. But don't act like people wasting away isn't common for vegans.
😂 it's not, it's more common for omnivores they are the ones that are anorexic or obese 😂
I don’t think she’s ever modeled other than small promotional shoots for vogue lol. She is much too short to be a super model
36 years of being a Vegan and no health issues.
I personally have a SUPER fast metabolism, but being vegan I can stave off my hunger much more strongly.
Very good coverage all around, keep it up, we need you.
i am vegan for 15 years and before that lifetime vegetarian ( research into animal cruelty show its pointless to eat eggs and cow milk and buy leather and wool and silk ...stella mcartney and other less expensive designers have some beautiful solutions for clothing) ...i have been thinner and fatter depending on how much fat and sugar ( good fat and good sugar still makes me fat) i add to my food and how much exercise i do ..its not rocket science..all this fuss is meat eaters know they are paying for cruelty and its painful for them so they double down with the cognitive dissonance ...not helping ofcourse ..ahhh the human condition of compulsive thinking generates nightmarish behavior ..❤️
high quality stevia and keeping my fat to 30 grams a day keeps me thin and happy! and the two cows and seventeen stray dogs and four stray cats who live in my house and garden is my tiny contribution to the happiness of other species..its easier than it sounds if you get creative and have the help of other animal lovers ❤️
This is the same cringy person who dragged That Vegan Teacher to the ground
Some people dont change. Sad
Another one bites the dust. Its always the celebrities.
I did a google search for the meaning of ED, and all the biggest legitimate medical institutes come back with a meaning that doesn't make sense.
Another excellent video, Mike! 🫶🌱💚
Great Video Mic, I am happy she is vegan even though I am not crazy about her as a person
I'd say she's plant based, not vegan.
I haven’t watched Wicked yet, but I've been conspicuous of the amount of hate the two leads have been getting online. This video just might have answered me why. Thank you. ❤
Horrible to have that much criticism. I hope she ok
Imagine believing it isn’t the obvious eating disorder she has discussed multiple times… 😂
its difficult to understand that not paying for cruelty to animals is controversial and 'cute and all..but priorities'
preventing cruelty in this world for everyone is the priority..isnt it? human rights ..animal rights... how can this be controversial ..these people must have amputated their empathy and rational thought ..there seems to be a lot of them
I have more healthy weight now than any time I was eating meat, and my metabolism is as fast as they come. I was down to 120lbs at 6 feet before I quit eating meat.
I'm 100+ lbs. heavier than when I last ate meat over 20 years ago. (I hate myself, not the animals.) People will say anything if it allows them to bash veganism.
True
These types of comments imply 2 false things:
1) Veganism is a diet.
Arianas character on Victorious was a vegan, so I think she's in for the long haul.
Even though my biomarkers were fine (a bit low on B12 but still in the normal range), I developed puffy eyes and I looked very scrawny…
I’ve changed my diet to a Mediterranean one and seems I’ve been able to keep all the benefits without any of the minor side effects of my previous lifestyle.
Vegan about 10 years and thriving :)
Thanks Mike. You bring me the celeb gossip stuff and anti vegan chat which otherwise I seem to miss.. Keep up the good work!
Anyways, I'm a fat vegan currently. 9 years in January. Lol
Hey me too! Chunky 7 year vegan right here 🥰
Same 8 years I've never been skinny tho & it's always baffled me when people assumed every vegan is so thin 🤷🏼
Same 😂
classic jump to conclusion fallacy.
As a vegan weight lifter, I hate to hear that vegans are better at specifically one bench press exercise. Why can’t we be optimized to deadlift more?
I've been vegan for 10 years, and haven't noticed any difference in my strength or stamina whatsoever compared to my carnivore peers.
the time has come when people see an eating disorder/mental health trauma is seen for what it is, as her plant-based diet has nothing to do with it.
Vegan for 11 years , veggie 35 years before, 69 years old on no meds ❤️
8 years vegan and not one health issue.
I was thin before veganism actually not thin anymore post veganism.
Ariana is STUNNING. I didn’t even know she was Vegan…! I love her even more knowing that.
So are you all pretending that she looks healthy? She objectively does not look healthy, but I wish her the best.
I'm a 20 year vegan and not skinny not unhealthy!
I'm a "larger vegan." 😂
To be fair, in her recent video she's not as thin as when she was in Wicked. I was so surprised but it's probably because of how strenuous making a movie can be.
