A local viewer recently found this Lane Acclaim Cocktail Table in the trash and wanted me to have it for a Restoration Project for the Channel. This is model number 900-01 from the Lane Acclaim Furniture Catalog. This cocktail table was manufactured in October of 1959. In this video I will remove the side of the table and show exactly how these Acclaim furniture pieces were made. I will sand the entire table and stain the piece using General Finishes Candlelite Gel Stain. I will then apply General Finishes Arm-R-Seal. This would be a great project if you are looking to flip furniture for a profit. This has been one of my favorite furniture Restorations.

I have restored quite bit of furniture myself but that is not why I watch your videos. The tone of your voice is very calming almost meditative. That you calmly restore damage is very meta for tackling life’s challenges with calm loving intent.
This means so much
This will be the biggest week for the channel so far! Can't wait to share all the exciting projects. Thank you for all the support! Barry
Looking forward to you new postings!!
Happy Hippie Christmas! 👀 Hope you find some nice pieces on the curb!
Looking forward to see you work on your next project.
Barry, I'm enjoying your Lane Acclaim restorations. My grandmother had this exact model in her living room!
I was born and still live in Altavista, Va. and the manufacturing plant was about 4 blocks from my home.
Sadly demolished some years ago only the smokestack remains today.
My father worked for Lane for 45 years and was one of a handful of men who developed the "Lanewood" process for making the particle board you mentioned.
They called it "chip core" and was made using the waste byproduct of the cedar chest manufacturing process.
The curing press equipment was entirely hand-built, on-site by Lane employees and was a very early type of radio frequency to cure the resin.
I got to see it in operation just once and it was a scary thing to witness!
Keep up the good work and let me know if you'd like to hear more about Lane.
Regards!
@@brhull Really interesting 👍
We have the original Lane Acclaim Coffee Table and end table (stamped 1963 and 1964), my parents bought sometime in 1963. Even with years of heavy use, they still look amazing in my living room. In my opinion they are still have a very contemporary modern art look.
Love this!!
Disappointed that this table isn't solid wood.. yet I know you will do a beautiful job bring this table back to its former glory!
I was surprised to learn how these were made
Such a beauty, you have the patience of a nurse my friend!
Sir Barry. Thank you for a flawless production. So satisfying to see someone restoring the good things from the past so that they can be celebrated and admired now and into the next 50+ years. ❤
This really made my day Greg
Your attention to detail makes each of these a pleasure to watch. I think these tables, with your care and expertise, will be objects of both utility and beauty for decades more to come.
This table came out beautiful! Love it! I always have difficulty hearing your videos. Would it be possible for you to wear a microphone? You are very soft spoken. Thanks.
You can tell you really love what you do. You take such loving care of the pieces you work on. I never thought I would enjoy watching furniture being restored but you are a master at it and make it look so easy and simple. Then, again, I never thought I would learn to make and can jams and jellies when I was 71. (Now 72).
Absolutely beautiful! Always satisfying results! Thank you much Barry!
Thank you!
Hollywood is going to snatch up that collection for 50s set! They need to make a movie about FLW
This beauty definitely deserved better than a landfill!
Yay to the viewer who interrupted the one way ticket to the dump. Whew! It's such a nice piece that has so much more life left in it, especially now that you doctored it up. What a beauty!! 🤎
We have that exact same table! It's the first piece of furniture my parents bought after they got married in 1973. The stain you chose looks pretty close to ours which is original.
Nice video! This is why I'm subscribed. I don't have Instagram or Facebook so this is the only content I see. Great job with the project!
My parents had a coffee table like that when I was a little girl. Beautiful restoration!
Nice work, Barry. My son in law turned me on to General Finishes after he attended a school on finishing furniture. Good stuff, although hard to get where I live.
Already have a thumbs up for popping my favorite movie into the VCR!
Impressed with the patience and attention to detail!
Why can't I find a beauty like that in the trash?? Never have had any luck...glad you did though
Your clematis vine is absolutely beautiful, and so are the pieces of furniture you put back together and refinish. Love to watch. Keep it coming.
I just bought a set of these end tables. They are in such poor condition, it hurts my heart to think of the life they've had. I'm rewatching this series to get tips and ideas.
Back in the 90s hubby and I were picking up MCM pieces and redoing them, for ourselves. I wanted that coffee table and just couldn't find it! Found a lot of the telephone tables.
I love stories like this. Thank you
WOW! Your clematis is stunning, but do they always bloom this late out there? Incredible!
Beautiful job, Barry!!
What a beautiful transformation. Still loving all your videos. Wish I could find more mid century stuff like this in the UK
Much acclaim to you my friend. Always a pleasure to watch😘
Thank you : )
That powered desk in your shop looks super useful! I thought it was little more than a bit of a product placement when you got it but I'm dead jealous now!
The fact that this was in the trash is heart breaking. 😕
I agree
Loved this Restoration.
You should be very proud of the end result..
I'm enjoying your comments Brian. Thank you
Another beautiful piece saved from the landfill 👍
Barry, you do such beautiful, careful, mindful work.
Im so glad you managed to pull some of this table apart and be able to save it. the wood grain is beautiful. there is just something warm about such old pieces of furniture displaying their wood grain in the home . Your lounge room looks so nicely set up.
Thank you so much
Gorgeous result and love that you pay attention to the bottom/unseen parts as well.
Sadly our financial situation thanks to huge energy costs etc is precarious and I am unable to support that way instead I make sure to let the ad's run through to the end.
Sorry I couldn't make the live was having a severe pain night.
Thank you for the awesome feedback
When my husband and I first were married we got his parents lane furniture coffee table and two end tables. I absolutely loved them. I had no idea the value (1990’s when owned ) at the time or that they would become desirable. When we separated I knew that they belonged to HIS family so I took the kitchen 🤷♀️. Now I would be very pleased to ever come across a piece today. They were exactly like the ones in this video. Thank you Barry for all the hard wrk that goes into putting one of these videos together and uploaded. It’s very much appreciated. Love from SC
Thank you for sharing this Jodi
Great job 👏 it turned out looking better than new. I’m glad these are not going to the landfill.
Thank you
WOW! You seem pretty busy with your restorations. Feels like you might almost be close to being able to say goodbye to your day job.
That would be a dream
@@MadCityModern You could so do that. When I think of the best, You, Daschner Designs, John's Furniture Repair, Transcend. When I am talking furniture with someone, those are the channels that I tell people to see. I do my best not to miss an episode.
Hey there, Gorgeous! I'm so glad this table found it's way to you and your Magic. Someday, I will have a set of these tables. I love the design.
Always a joy to watch you work.
Thank you Michael
Really amazing job Barry, I love the attention to detail you give each piece, truly a sterling job.
You did a Beautiful Job for a table found in the trash. It was obviously in someone's basement or garage for years, before it was put out on the curb.
YEAH! Vernors Ginger Ale! I love it.
You caught the Vernor's : )
@@MadCityModern; I popped the top on one to celebrate your video!
Wonderful as always
I'm loving all your projects, and, new developments. Very exciting.
I hope the LANE Co is thrilled at the job you have done at restoring their products. And the publicity you have given to them. The piecces you have done are just wonderful!!!
Proof that one man's trash is another man's treasure.
Looking forward to the nest. Beautiful work on that table.
Love your friendly narration and extra content and information.
Thank you Jan
That table turned out wonderful. I don't know why somebody would throw it out with the trash... your restoration was beautifully done!
Outstanding work Barry
Beautiful!!
lovely restoration
I sold a three piece set of these Lane tables in my store the gentleman who bought them was so excited that I did not refinish them.. Another beautiful job Barry.
Wow! You work beautiful miracles!
I so admire your thoughtful diligence
and determined attention to detail.
Beautiful restorations; thank you!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I bloomin well love that candlelight gel stain. Speaking of, we had a few hours by candlelight this evening. Big thunderstorm. First time ever that I watched a big cloud moving towards our house and it sparking inside. We literally watched (from safely inside) as the thunderstorm began to move across our roof. It was amazing. The non-stop rumbling and the flashes all around. It was only when it began to move away that we could actually see the forks of lightning and it was crazy. Thanks for the live earlier. I think your choice of stain was perfect. The table is fabulous now. Great job Barry. As always.
Beautiful as always!
Beautiful job!!
Thank you Lois
I love the warm glow of that finish. It just makes me smile.
Wow, the walnut veneer is about as thick as a piece of paper, or looks like it. I did one of these exact tables and just used stripper so the finish was very easy to get off. It is weird that they actually veneered the underside, but didn't finish it with anything. That "Lane" logo would look pretty bad stamped on particle board. The old particle board was much better than available today, so at least you know it is stable and will never warp.
Very thin yes. And I'm always pleased with the quality of the engineered particle board
Beautiful job Barry! It turned out just fantastic! Can't wait to see what the rest of the week is about!
You did an awesome job on that table pulled from the garbage.I can’t stop smiling after seeing my name on that piece of wood. So cool!
Beautiful, your very talented man.
Thank you so much 😀
Anxious to see what your biggest week has in store for us your viewers! Always looking forward to your videos!
Not a lover of these tables, but the job you did was excellent.
Another fabulous restoration! You are brilliant
Thank you so much
Barry you are a magician! You Transformed an almost piece of junk into a masterpiece. Thank you for sharing such a content!
Thank you so much
I love this tables, I wish I could find one . Love work. Thank you
You are the best I've seen at restoring pieces back to what they once was. I love all your stuff. It's just amazing.
Didn't see the particle board thing coming. 1959 was a good year
I didn't either
It’s amazing that you have been able to work with so many Lane Acclaim pieces. Solid work keep up the content
I've been lucky
Beautiful work and so meticulous as always!❤
At 2:53, the Vernors Ginger ale, the best Ginger soda in existence!!! Hard to get here in New Jersey. I love the stuff.
This turned out really beautiful.🌸
Barry, it’s great to see you wonderful restoration. Thanks for taking time to share with us the amazing restoration. I must say I was stunned when you revealed that the Lane table top had particle wood as the substrate. I would have guess a hard wood layered with a nicer veneer.
Interesting I must say. Thanks for your time. Michael-
Thank you so much
Fantastic as always !
That is gorgeous!❤❤❤
I like the way it turned out using the candle light gel stain.
Thanks for the detailed explanation of the repair.
Awesome job Barry!
Looking forward to the other topics coming this week. 👍
Hi Barry x
Thank you for educational video. Hard work and dedication always pays off at the end. What a beautiful piece of history brought to life ones again xx I hope that your channel blossom like the purple plant of yours x
Hi, amazing job Barry. You are great, thx for this video:-)
Thank you again!
You know, I'm fairly certain we'll have room in our road trip car for a table or two...😉 Honestly, your work is lovely. Can't wait to visit Madison!
Beautiful!
Absolutely stunning🤩
Thank you Helen
I love seeing someone else that sees value in old wood furniture. My parents have several Lane Acclaim pieces that they bought new in the mid 60's. I have about 10 pieces of my own. I'm currently working on refinishing a drum table 900-22 and it is wobbly. Do you have any advice on how to remove the legs? I see screws for the lower shelf, but I'm not sure how the legs come out of the underside of the tabletop. It might be too far gone. I got it for $50 a few years ago near Detroit.
You do an amazing job on your restorations Barry!!!
Wow impressive restoration.
Amazing finishes and save of a great piece. Nicely done!
Mesa con mucho estilo.
Trabajo perfecto 👌 ✅️ ✔️.
Saludos desde ANDALUCÍA,ESPAÑA
Thank you
I look forward to each new installment on your channel. The way you managed the removal and reattachment of the side piece what interesting to watch. When you said you made a mistake, I thought 'Oh no, here we go. He's going to accidently gouge the wood'. The finish looked really shiny when you were done. I guess the light have played off of it differently this time, as I don't recall other pieces looking quite as slick. However, it's gorgeous as usual! Thanks for everything, Barry.
Hi Tom. I really appreciate the kind feedback
I have this coffee table! Wish I had saved the end tables. The Goldsteins show uses the same one!
Seriously stunning! Wish I lived closer so I could buy one of your gorgeous refinished mid-century modern pieces. Sending much love and positive vibes from Montana. ✨💖✨
I love those tables I wish I was local to you but I'm in Massachusetts
Love!
Beautiful coffee table, it a pity your in another country and I am in Australia 🇦🇺
Beautiful❤
Lovely job!
Awesome job restoring that table Barry!
Another Beautiful restoration...love your channel...my only suggestion is in production... is it possible to raise the volume . Your voice is so soft I often have difficulty hearing even with volume all the way up especially if there is anything other noise...(the ad volume is TO LOUD... lol)... And before anyone suggests I use earbuds...no thanks...worst thing you can do for your hearing IMHO... anyway... please keep the videos coming.
Man I wish I could find something like this in the trash! The only thing I ever spot is particle board junk 😑
that table turned out beautifully!
💕🌻Beautiful
Thank you Rochelle
Since you've got so many of these to play with I wonder how Waterlox would work with one that's got a little extra figuring.
