I used to have that set! It came with 3 leaves (in original boxes, unused) and it was massive. The chairs were large as well, original upholstery. It cost me $150 in '97. I eventually sold it cos it was just so big and my house isn't. I didn't realize they were rare. I like how you saved this one. So beautiful. Now I regret selling mine 😢

It's a beautiful restoration. People who are collecting and love the Lane Acclaim will be very happy with this table as it is. I have a side table in this decor and this dining table is perfect. Your judgement is spot on. BRAVO!

I went back and looked at the beginning again…wow. What a difference. I assume you refinished the leaf, too? It didn’t look like it was in the table at the end, and I didn’t see you working on it. I only own one Acclaim piece - a square end table - but I love seeing all the different shapes and sizes. I follow four people on UA-cam that repair/restore/refinish furniture, and I’m always struck by your knowledge and experience. My husband was a custom cabinet maker for over 40 years, and he always grumbles when he sees people doing things that they really don’t know how to do. He never says a thing when I’m watching your videos!

As a long time watcher of your channel, there are a few consistencies to your projects. Number one is that you love walnut. If it doesn't look like walnut, you usually stain it to make like it looks like it is. The second is, you dislike dissimilar wood tones. In this case the manufacturer deliberately chose these woods BECAUSE they are dissimilar. Most everybody likes woods that complement each other. What I like is contrast. This table has it! The contrast between the border and the top is what gives this table class compared to the humdrum color of an all walnut piece. You do marvelous work, but sometimes you just need to envision what the artist who created the piece was going for. In this case, it was the contrast of the light dovetail border with the contemporary walnut top.

I was raised in a house full of Lane, and I am a big fan. I have a few, but I wish I had all those pieces from years ago. I remember the legs on our table being a shade or two darker, not by much ... BUT, what you have done here is incredible! Its gorgeous!! Please say you are keeping it, you'll see a unicorn before you see another one!!

I think this one is actually quite lovely with the obvious difference in wood. Did you ever find any photos of the original piece fresh from the factory? As always, you never disappoint. And just as an added tiny bit of praise, I like that you never back away from errors or mistakes or accidental dings or dents. I like that. Honesty. Good job, Dashner.

Dash-Nerd Leader, Thanks again for another great project. I agree with your assessment that the solid edging and inlaid dovetails are elm. This video is especially helpful for me, because I have a Lane Acclaim corner table. The guy I bought it from had done a decent job of removing the finish and sanding it. However, for some unknown reason, he then proceeded to add a coat of Restor-a-Finish (walnut). The center walnut veneer looks fine, but, as with your project, the elm looks streaky and nasty. After watching this video, I think I can proceed to bring my table to some approximation of the beauty of yours. Kind regards.

On one hand, the previous refurbishing leaving permanent marks and gouges that can't be restored is a bit unfortunate. But without that first refurbishing, would it have lived a long enough life to make it to its second one with you? Many years from now, will it get a third? I feel a kind of hope and joy when the value of common objects is seen and appreciated. Everything gets banged up over time but there's something really beautiful about saying, "You're worth the effort to clean up and mend", and extra special when done by someone with skill and care to preserve the details.
    Thanks for sharing your work!

I love Lane acclaim furniture! The contrast between the veneer and the wood that you revealed as you scraped away the finish made me so happy. I’m glad you didn’t tone out all of that contrast, because it’s such a signature design element of the brand. I’ve always wondered how they made the dovetails, and the revelation that they’re veneer is interesting. I haven’t had an opportunity to closely examine any pieces to determine that for myself, so I appreciate the reveal.
I like the look of the completed project. Although it’s not exactly original, I like the contrast between the legs and the apron. It fits better with the top of the table. I wish I had room for it in my tiny (cozy little, LOL) apartment.

I think the word you are looking for with those light spots is “weathered”. The finish being worn away somewhat allows liquid to seep under, mainly from being wiped with a wet dish cloth with soap. Over time that and exposure to light creates the “weathered” damage.

Edit- Just finished watching and it turned out absolutely beautiful! The color/contrast is perfect. Enjoy!

Excellent job, I like all the color variations, gives it a very unique look. Also glad yoy left it more natrural, don't care much for stained wood especially if it's walnut or cherry.

I can see what you mean with the color balance. Your work is incredible. And I appreciate your "good enough" mentality. I have a Lane desk that I can't find much information on. One drawer in the center and two glove boxes on top is what my southern mother calls them. 😂 have you seen one like this?
