1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 440 Six Pack 1/25 Scale Model Kit Build How To Assemble Paint Decal 440-6 AMT1401 1401 AMT
AMT’s 1/25 scale 1970 Dodge Challenger is the perfect project for muscle car builders. Add it to your collection today!
The handsome collectible tin packaging uses USPS imagery throughout including a stunning rendition of the Challenger by Tom Fritz on the box lid.
The 1970 Dodge Challenger is one of the most highly sought-after muscle cars to carry the Mopar pedigree. This kit comes with plenty of options including a 390-hp 440 six-pack engine, an optional spoiler, two hood options, and a removable roof. An updated water-slide decal sheet that offers 3 different color selections.
    Features:
1:25 scale, skill level 2, paint & glue required
    90 parts
Molded in white, clear, transparent red, and some chrome-plated parts
    Black vinyl tires
    Built size: 8 inches long
The Dodge Challenger is the name of three different generations of automobiles (two of those being pony cars) produced by American automobile manufacturer Dodge. However, the first use of the Challenger name by Dodge was in 1959 for marketing a "value version" of the full-sized Coronet Silver Challenger.
From model years 1970 to 1974, the first generation Dodge Challenger pony car was built using the Chrysler E platform in hardtop and convertible body styles sharing major components with the Plymouth Barracuda.[2]
The second generation, from model years 1978 to 1983, was a badge engineered Mitsubishi Galant Lambda / Sapporo,[3] a coupe version of an economical compact car.
The third and current generation is a pony car that was introduced in early 2008 originally as a rival to the evolved fifth generation Ford Mustang and the fifth generation Chevrolet Camaro.[4]
In November 2021, Stellantis announced that 2023 model year would be the final model year for both the LD Dodge Charger and LA Dodge Challenger, as the company will focus its future plans on electric vehicles rather than fossil fuel powered vehicles, especially with tougher automotive emissions standards of being rolled out and required by the Environmental Protection Agency for the 2023 model year.
For its introductory model year the Challenger was available in two series, Challenger and Challenger R/T, and three models, two-door hardtop, Special Edition two-door hardtop, or convertible.[14][better source needed] The base model was the Challenger with either an inline-6 or V8 engine. The Special Edition hardtop, available on either the base Challenger or on the R/T, added a number of appearance, convenience, and comfort features.[15] Produced for the 1970 model year only, this more luxurious SE specification included as standard a vinyl roof with a "SE" medallions on the pillars, a smaller "formal" rear window, leather and vinyl bucket seats, and an overhead interior console that contained three warning lights (door ajar, low fuel, and seatbelts).[16] The standard engine on the base model was a 225 cu in (3.7 L) Straight-6. The standard engine on the higher trim models was a 318 cu in (5.2 L) V8 with a 2-barrel carburetor. For 1970, the optional engines included the 340 and 383 cu in (5.6 and 6.3 L), as well as the 440 and 426 cu in (7.2 and 7.0 L) V8s, all with a standard 3-speed manual transmission, except for the 290 hp (216.3 kW) 383 cu in. engine, which was available only with the TorqueFlite automatic transmission. A 4-speed manual was optional on all engines except the 225 cu in (3.7 L) Inline-6 and the 2-barrel 383 cu in (6.3 L) V8.

Good thing the plastic is white for those that build it as so.

I remember my dad doing the same. I was a teenager in the 70's. My pops was a die hard gear head. When he came back from Nam all he wanted to do was build cars. He was the one that got me hung up on car movies. I think my favorite will always be Bullitt. @@goratgo1970

The Challenger in the movie wasn't a vinyl top, though.

@@kevin64573 Bonus point to AMT having a separate top, making it easier to sand away vinyl texture! I would use one of my sanding boards.

On a 1970 Challenger the reverse light is in the middle of the back panel that has Dodge in it. 71 Challengers have the back up lights just how you painted this one. I really enjoy your videos

Love the color choice - it's nice to see a Dodge Challenger that isn't orange or purple, and it's also good to see how this AMT kit builds up vis a vis the Revell/Monogram T/A. I also like the collector tin, which were I to get this kit I would definitely use as a spares box.

You are 100% correct by attaching the roof first before painting. I did not do that because I’ve thought it would be easier to paint it a different color. It was very difficult to put together after everything was painted.

This kit always seemed interesting, mostly their 426 Hemi with hood shaker, but I always heard how the roof was a nightmare to put on, which made me stay away from it. Also, I'm not really a vinyl roof person.
Nice build. Just in case you didn't knew, the '70 Challenger reverse light is in the middle, under the Dodge text.

Weird timing! I just started prepping a couple of days ago the 2001 AMT/ERTL issue of this same kit but with the Shaker hood scoop so I'll be watching this video with great interest to see if you strike any pitfalls. One thing I notice my older kit has the convertible boot but it appears Round 2 deleted it from this issue. Curious. Anyway, I'll be buying this new issue for sure. Thanks from an Aussie fan for showing this and all your builds mate.

Nice job on what has been a mediocre kit for the last 40+ years since Maychbox/Lesney owned AMT.
Good to see they FINALLY fixed the hood, tho the 'fake Hemi' valve covers are still there.
What are the two limps on top of the intake manifold??? Six Pack indicated triple two barrels...
the tabs on the lower rear panel were intended to go inside the rear fenders.
Maybe the best assembly of that awful kit I've seen

Just like real Dodges -most came with vinyl roofs, started with the White Hat Boys ad campaign late 60s. It's why I went 'Cuda. But then this kit isn't vinyl top - it's whatever you make it. It can't be a convertible because that's not what the 'vert A pillar looks like and there is NO BOOT where the top would go! 👀

Great build. Interesting that the roof is separate. I'm thinking it might be for a release of a Challenger RT/SE which had a different rear window treatment. The steering wheel on this kit is correct for an SE but not a regular R/T according to a chart I found. However, I can't find any pictures of an RT/SE interior with this wheel. Weird.

Round2 didn't do you any favors. Glued on roof??? No. No Polyglas DEE-KLES or tampos? Rallye wheels should be what you glue to the inside piece- paint them the shade of silver used that year, then have the trim rings on the chrome sprue, center caps again should be separate because they were a different color but despite all that you KILLED IT. Not a green fan of anything except my "tree" but hey, your SKILL trumped the green thing. You WORKED it. X cellent. My 2nd car as 21 year old was a 'Cuda so I knows my Rallye wheels. I'm LA for decades but Cuda years were CT - you ever see a jacked up Cuda with Rallye wheel G60 snow tires? I had one! 👀
