In the 2017 movie “The Fate of The Furious”, Dominic Toretto is not the only hero in the movie, so is his Plymouth GTX. This is a familiar scenario for the Fast & Furious™ movie series. It has become not only Universal’s number 1 franchise, but also the 6th highest grossing series of all time at over 5 billion in sales. The Plymouth GTX first appeared in 1967 as a model of the Satellite and continued until 1971. In 1971 it had 3 engines choices available including the 440 “Six-Pack” pumping out 385 horsepower. It benefitted from a special camshaft, stronger valves and big-port cylinder heads. Sadly only 3,000 GTXs were made in 1971.

The Plymouth GTX is an automobile introduced as the Belvedere GTX in 1967 by the Plymouth division. It was positioned as a mid-sized upscale-trimmed performance muscle car through the 1971 model year.
The GTX was based on the Belvedere, and was differentiated by a blacked out grille and special rear fascia, fiberglass simulated hood scoops with optional racing stripes, a chrome "pop-open" fuel filler cap, and a tachometer mounted on the center console.[1]
The GTX was positioned as a "gentleman's muscle car".[2] Standard was Plymouth's 440 cu in (7.2 L) V8 engine called the "Super Commando 440" rated at 375 hp (280 kW). Optional was Chrysler's 426 cu in (7.0 L) Hemi. A heavy duty suspension system was also standard.
Chrysler introduced major changes in the design of the 1968 model Plymouth B-bodies and the GTX was given a completely new look. A new hourglass body replaced the previous rectilinear design. The high performance 440 was standard in the GTX as was the TorqueFlite automatic transmission, while it was an extra cost option in the Road Runner. The GTX used the Sport Satellite trim and was offered in two body styles, a two-door convertible and a two-door hardtop (no B-pillar). All featured dual horizontal "racing stripes" on the lower sides ending with a GTX emblem ahead of the rear wheel openings.
The GTX was positioned to be an upscale model of the Plymouth Road Runner by adding luxury to performance.[3] The new budget performance version of the Belvedere featured the new 383 cu in (6.3 L) "Super Commando" V8 (renamed the "Road Runner 383"). It also had less insulation and comfort items, which reduced weight and kept it in the low price.
The 1970 GTX received a minor redesign with a new grille and rear taillights. Sales were low as the car did not look much different from the Road Runner. Stylists made the lines smoother, and a "power bulge" hood was introduced, as well as non-functional rear-brake air scoops. The convertible body style was no longer available. The Air Grabber hood returned, but instead of having two narrow openings running length-wise as in 1969, it had one opening scoop located on the power bulge. The GTX was available with the standard 440 four-barrel carburetor. Optional were the 440+6 barrel (three 2-barrel carburetors) and the 426 Hemi. In keeping with the GTX marketing strategy, the 1970 model included many standard features.
The only other performance luxury model in Plymouth's lineup was the full-size Sport Fury GT, built on the C-Body platform. The GT was added to the lineup in 1970.
The B-body was redesigned for 1971 and featured rounded "fuselage" styling with a raked windshield, hidden cowl, and a loop-type front bumper around a deeply inset grille and headlights. This was the final year for the GTX as a stand-alone model. The convertible body style was dropped.
Engine choices were 440 four-barrel, 440 with three two-barrels (Six Pack), and 426 Hemi. Emission restrictions such as lower compression ratios and faster-acting choke operation lowered the base 440 output by 5 hp (3.7 kW), to 370 hp (280 kW). The 440 Six Barrel was down to 385 hp (287 kW), but the Hemi was still rated at 425 hp (317 kW). Due partly to rising insurance rates on muscle cars, sales were low. There were less than 3,000 units produced in 1971.
For 1972 through 1974, any Road Runner ordered with the optional 440 was renamed Road Runner GTX and included the badging of both previous models.

Great build. Beautiful car. Thanks for sharing Chris.
Thanks for watching!
The more I watch you paint, the more I learn for when I paint my own kits. Good build once again!
Glad it helps! Make sure you figure out your own groove and enjoy it!
Love this body style myself. One of my favorites. An In-Violet over white one, 440+6 lived around the corner from me when I was a kid. I hope it still exists. What a car.
Sweet!
What I really like about your videos is you get right down to business. There’s no stammering and tangents about why you didn’t get started when you wanted to. Your camera is always in focus and steady. You should have a class for other UA-camrs on how to produce a video.
I agree. I'd love to know how to do this..I just made my 1st one with my phone camera and have no idea what I'm doing . I really like how these vids are edited together with sound track and wording with such professionalism .
Like the camera angle ..it's like he's has it mounted to his head and we can watch the build from his perspective almost like seeing it through his eyes ..
Thanks man! No plans to give classes on making videos but I'm glad you like to watch them!
I promise each video will be about the subject at hand, the model, the tool, etc.
Take care!
Agreed with the notion of liking the "off colors" vs. the High Impact colors.. (I like them all but never discounted the browns, bronzes and the like..! ).
Yeah, my idea is it's an office guy's car, he wants the six pack power but not the flashy impact color looks when he takes a client out for fondue and scotch. ;)
@@hpiguy Fondue.! Ha.! Thats of the period.!!
@@hpiguy "How about cheese fondon't, for those who don't fondue!" - George Carlin :oD
Now that is a car to have. Nice build. Never stop with the videos.
No plans to stop, too many haters out there to drive nuts when I use hardware spray cans! LOL
@@hpiguy You will never hear me say anything bad about that. You get good results and it's very affordable. You can't beat that with a piece of rebar.
Another lovely build. I never had any luck with Krylon paints. It's been many years since I last sprayed a model car with Krylon paint. I used to use their Fusion line with decent results. Takes a lot of clear to get a good, glossy finish.
I like the copper metallic. I might try that someday. Thanks.
They are much thinner, so I do have to be more easy than with Rustoleums.
Man, what a cool build! I was wondering about the contents of this kit, so I really appreciate your doing this one.
BTW- I really think you chose your color well on this one; looks just like Mopar paint code L6 Aztec Gold. My dad had a '71 Polara in this color. A lot of GTXs got painted in these "sedate" colors because the older guys buying them had money and didn't necessarily want to show off. Us kids couldn't talk dad into a high-impact color!
I would love it if they had included the optional elastomer front bumper to do a proper factory body-color front end along with the rear window louvers; both rare options.
The only thing that baffles me is the hood stripes. In the box picture they look white (?). Guess I'll have to obtain different ones if I want to do a different color combo.
Yeah, my idea is it's an office guy's car, he wants the six pack power but not the flashy impact color looks when he takes a client out for fondue and scotch. ;)
Thanks!
Very cool........Love my Mopars!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Right on!
SOOOO KOOOOOLLLL .
Awesome work as always.
Nice kit . Mike Espo .
Glad you like it!
Just beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Fine work, great color choice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice work again
Thank you! Cheers!
Very short and sweet comment 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much 😀
Once again Chris great job sorry so laye on the watching the video great color choice interior is awesome thank you for sharing
No worries, thanks!
Body style changed in 1970 called a fuselage style body, hpi man 👍👍👌
I liked these years 68 to 74 but yea 69 my favorite like how it turned out another great job.
Cool, thanks!
nice job...love the funky tunes added!
im sayin lol i thought i was the only one that realized he used a different song this time lol good toons
The funky tunes fit the car for sure. Very late 70s
Glad you like them!
LOL...I like the George Benson / Nintendo music(:
Good!
Great build..i've got the original release of this model car from back in the 1990s it's the one that had the actual photo of the real car on the box cover..mine is the yellow one😊😊😊👍👍👍
Thanks for the info!
Nice color Sir, i love it!
Thank you! Cheers!
like the builds. a hell of a bunch of commercial interruptions though. Gets annoying.
I have no control over that. YT has to pay for all the servers we use for free and I refuse to charge a subscription for the channel (if I did they'd drop the commercials).
I love this build I am currently building a fleet of factory stock Mopars! I have a tip for you Chris when you have to put a mirror on a painted car, before the car is painted I like to use a number 71 drillbit and a short piece of a sewing pin, drill corresponding holes in the mirror and the car where the mirror goes before you paint and then once it’s all painted it’s a snap to put the mirror exactly where you want it. Plus you can hold the mirrors at the end of a pin clamped between a clothes pin to paint it.
Pinning works very well, yup. Thanks!
I really love your color choices Chris! The interior is stunning, Excellent build👍
Thanks a bunch!
Does Testors silver ever dry?
I was going to ask the same question. I think the chemists that work for Testors came from the same group that developed the Twinkie!
Yes, I have no issues, couple hours and it's dry.
It will never dry on vinyl and rubber, only plastics. Enamels never do.
Excellent video young padawan, as always!
To be brutally honest, I've never understood the hype with the crappy F & F movies, seen one and that was enough! 🤢🤮☠💩
I saw the first one, it was fun, the rest aren't for me., But if it gets them to reissue these kits, then it's awesome!
I agree..I say that about most things in this era..it's hyped..not allowed to sell itself like things were when we were kids in the 70s and 80s.
But at least we get to build an odd ball year mopar out of this.
@@hpiguy
I wasn't much of a fan of the '71 Dodge and Plymouth, but they've grown on me, much like the '62's.....
Done all black, chrome and everything....I think that these would look pure evil! 😎
@@hpiguy Hype is over done. How True, the star Mr. Walker, thought he was a stunt man. Did not survive that very well.
But Hollywood can not make anything new. So the copy the story and it gets boring.
I bought a brand new. 1971 Plymouth Satellite Sebring in 1971. Not as hot as the GTX, but I liked it. Same body style, just a smaller engine and different badges. I traded it in, for a 1974 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus, pewter color, black interior. The only problem I had with the 71 was, when it rained, the taillights would get water in them. Then for about a week you had water sloshing around in them. I ordered new ones twice, had the same problem. The Plymouth dealer tried to fix the problem, but never had success. ,.
A married buddy of mine bought an orange with black laser stripe over c pillar 440 six barrel Road Runner back in the day when we were kids - with the hood with the little Air Grabber that was on the tree in your 440 model here. He used to drive it around with the two outer carbs disconnected to save money - like my 'Cuda we were getting about 7 mpg average if misbehaving. But then Wife happened and the 'Runner done had to run....away. I like your color choice - doesn't hurt my feelings anyway!! Good Job! d:D 🚗
just built this kit. Doms edition. Not a fan of the chrome in this kit. Not bad for my First kit build in your though.
I wanted to paint my 71 Challenger black, but that Autumn bronze metallic grows on you after a while.
Another nice build 👍🏻
Same body , 3 different packages. Satellite , Road Runner, GTX
Yup, same as every car maker these days. One platform, 13 cars.
Igot a question. Do you sand before priming the body and/or sand between paint coats?
Spray and pray. No time with these quick reviews.
These aren't show builds or model perfection classes, just nice easy breezy model reviews. Thanks!
I really wish this kit had parts to build a regular Satellite Sebring - flat hood, full-cover wheels, whitewall-able tires and so on
Looks FURIOUSLY FAST. Nice color and trim choices. Solid, clean build.
Thanks!
Nice car and great job 👍
Glad you like it!
The Plymouth turned out great Chris Looks like a real 1:1
Thanks James!
It is an awesome kit, the original pre-fast and furious version came with the airgrabber hood, but not the 440 hood, so this is an improvement. I built mine with some changes to reflect my actual 72 Sattelite, and it was easy enough thanks to the kits details to add heater hoses, fuel lines, sparkplug wires etc, the kit itself has all the space needed to easily do this. I want to get this reboxed version and build it again now! Great build, kutgw!
Enjoy it!
Hey HipGuy great work, I have a question. Do you build commission work? Should we send you the Kit? Lets talk~chat~text, what ever the nomenclature is.
The Six Million Dollar Man kicking down the cell wall and door.
I do not take commissions, thanks!
Would be nice if they retro-fitted that model to give us the Satellite once more. Not that it's a bad kit. I mean, it's a superb one. But sometimes base cars are more smexy.
Really like your color with the stripes. Pretty cool.
A stock Satellite hood would help with NASCAR themed subjects, too!
That would be cool! On this oen you can at least do the base 4bbl 440 setup.
Hartspartsresin makes resin Satellite hoods for this.
The hood in this issue is the one that was in the original '71 Satellite kit, which was issued in 1984. It's not likely Revell will ever issue the kit in that form again because the body tool was permanently modified to add the lower rocker panel trim, deck lid spoiler mounting points and GTX emblems.
You really funked it up with the tunes! Awesome build!
If you look closely on the film it was not a 71 GTX he drove on the movie it was a 1972 Plymouth RoadRunner cause the side markers and the taillight were different and 1971 was the very last year for the GTX model the side markers on 1972 were all the same on Mopars they were offset lens
Wait, a movie about cars written, directed and acted by people that know little to nothing about cars wasn't entirely accurate? No way!! LOL
When I heard they were rereleasing the 71 gtx kit it made me feel giddy, as I had built the 2007 kit during the summer. Kinda was hoping they would update the molds with the interior and give us something similar to the special edition kits instead of a tub. Great video and beautifully made kit tho.
Thanks a lot!
Agreed with you not my favorite body style either. But do love the car. However I wish they would go back to the old rear end Style. To me they look better when they're all individual parts instead of one piece exhaust rear end Driveline Springs other than that great job like your videos from one to another keep them coming
Right on!
I really like the way you pick colors. I am just getting started. Can you recommend the brands of paint that you use. Thanks
I list the paints in the painting section of the video. I will use any spray on the market, model and hardware store paint.
Even watching the paint section of the video twice I didn't see where you did the interior tub. What color is that? Looks really good with the copper exterior.
Same color as the dash and seats, Cambridge Stone if I remember correctly.
Hello, is future floor wax that you use on your model car bodies to shine them? Thanks! Love your channel!
Yes, just like I said. See the Concept Camaro video for tips. Thanks!
Just got this model, first model so I'm not sure what im doing. Did you have to use some glue for most of the parts or did they all just snap in place?
This will require the use of model glue for plastic, yes.
Fantastic build! I love the more restful luxury leaning color combo. These older Revell/Monogram kits always go together so great.
I totally agree!
Yeah, my idea is it's an office guy's car, he wants the six pack power but not the flashy impact color looks when he takes a client out for fondue and scotch. ;)
Just got this kit for christmas, definitely looking forward to builiding it and your video showing it off was great.
Have fun!
I just got this one, and was thinking boy it would be great if you did this one on the workshop. Now I found out you not only did one. You did one a month ago when I was obviously not paying attention lol.
Ha! At least you found it eventually!
Im not sure if you have done one in the past or they don’t make them but you should build an old square body Chevy like a c10
Yup I've done a couple at least, you can check the channel home page.
1971 was the year I graduated from high school , there were a lot of great classic to be cars made during my school years , it was a great time .
Yeah!
I just started building this model and I noticed that one of the custom wheels does not have detail on it while the other three do, have you noticed this problem?
I show every wheel in the video.
I read where those hash Mark stripes on the front fenders originated.
Apparently, way back in like the 1950s and 60s a race team that had multiple cars would use these hash marks to know cars apart.
One hash mark for one car , two for the second, and, possibly three for a third car.
They are popular on new cars today.
Yup, I put the carbon fiber fender stripes on my car in the early 2000s to recreate the look, looked great on the Torch Red GM paint.
@@hpiguy GM has a 2021 Camaro coming out with a special red metallic ( cherry ) and those fender stripes. Sharp.
Great build Chris. You are an inspiration!! I'm wondering if you could tell us what type of "craft paint" you are using? Is just a different type of acrylic?? Keep the vids coming!!! Cheers
Craft paints from Walmart, Hobby Lobby in the 2oz bottles shown.
@@hpiguy Thanks!!
Why are some models 24th scale and others 25th scale
Nice build. Could you explain how to dull up the bright chrome on the stock wheels? Oh and is it necessary to prime everything and is that orange actual engine paint? I'm restoring a 1972 Roadrunner by MPC and really want the model to look professional.
I show it in the video, in the spray booth and then detailing it on the bench. I didn't leave out any steps. Thanks man!
I don't give advice on show or professional models, that's not my style and not the level I build to so I steer clear of saying 'you have to do it my way'.
I like to prime so that the color holds well.
The orange is actual engine paint.
@@hpiguy okay thanks for the reply. By "professional" I should've said that I want the car I am building to look really good. I realized after I asked about dulling the wheels that you actually show that technique in the video. Thanks and keep up the good work. 👍
Hey Chris how goes it these days??? What type of pledge do you use to clear coat your models with??? What do you use to clean your brushes after each use??? Sorry I haven't, been commenting on your work for awhile because I don't know how to do that on my brothers smart TV...
I use regular Pledge floor gloss and soak brushes in Simple Green. Thanks!
@@hpiguy Is there another cleaner that would work I can't, stand the smell of simple green???
I enjoy your videos your way or the high way lol ...you built like I built
Thanks 👍
Everyone is welcome to build models the way they like. Enjoy!
Thats great Chris, so glad you built the stock version with those wheels, This is how I wanted to build it but couldnt find any images. Its now in my basket 😋 Lovely colour too, and v interesting how one can vary the shade as you go. Never stop learning here 😉 Stunning finish Chris, I need to see if I can still find some Future. And I think I will leave those corner lip spoilers off. Great build, thanks for the inspiration
Yes manifique lovery 💯👍🏁🇱🇷
Thanks!
QUESTION
I'm looking for an interior decal sheet for the 1/128 Sea View.
Recommendations please!
For those of us who are not talented at soldering, are there any light kits ready to install
Thank you
Did the lady bug @10:22 get a coat of color after primer? lol
Spit polished and a coat of Future!
Never used pledge before how long do I need to leave it till it can be touched
Search my channel for Future Floor Polish, I detail it more in numerous videos.
Nicely built nice choice on colors
I've always kind of liked them years ago Roadrunner GTX is a satellites especially with the 440 six barrel those were some cool cars in fact the first two years of that body style was the last 2 years that you could get the 426 Hemi and those
The painting music is a bit more “funky” than usual, LOL! Way to change it up!
71 baby, grooovvyyyyyy!
I have this model to build. Mine will be painted the same color as my 71 was, Tawny Gold with a white top. The interior will be a champagne tan color..
I hate when kits have the injection molding ejector marks, thankfully I don't see the notorious round marks in the interior flooring like some kits have
great job ... thanks for posting!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beats what round 2 is putting out whats happened to the old amt and mpc kits with original box art they did ....
I love your channel, I always look before I go and get my own model kits you make it look fun and I enjoy the storyline when you show the model kits 👍👍
Awesome! Thank you!
I do the same exact thing. I have 12 more models because I watched Chris, Thanks chris
Awesome build up brother. Rock ON! Build STRONG!
Thank you kindly!
Awesome car great job
Thanks!
Very nice job.
Hey Chris, Chris here..... I just built this kit a few months ago In pretty much the same color scheme in & out too...... very nice kit to build too
Thanks for the info!
I wish I could keep my Sharpies from clogging up with paint (I guess). Do you just toss them after they will not flow smoothly?
They last a long time for me and once the tip is dulled too much to do trim with they become the ones I use for gas caps, radiator caps, etc . Try not pressing so hard, it flows way nicer with a gentle touch.
Do u know the name of the song that starts at 16:20
Random mellow tracks from the YT free music site. Thanks!
Very nice love the colour, I really like those old Monogram 1/24 kits
Glad you like them Gary!
Hands so steady when painting detail.
Thanks!
Great job as always, Chris! As I look at the decal sheet, are #'s 15/16 supposed to be for the rear tail lights/backup lights? You very rarely see that! I think I like the look of the clear red paint better....:)
The white decals are for the backups, yes.
I had a blue 69 runner, miss having it. My favorite RR.
The GTX was just an upgraded Roadrunner,. It was called the Gentlemans muscle car. The 1971 GTX was it's own model year.
Yeah, my idea is it's an office guy's car, he wants the six pack power but not the flashy impact color looks when he takes a client out for fondue and scotch. ;)
Nice color choice..this is more of what I remember seeing back then when these were fairly new. I don't ever recall seeing any in those bright glo colors in person at the time ..but lots of browns, coppers, gold's, greens and blues...closest one was my uncle's red 70 challenger.
I agree, thanks!
You did it again. Awesome
Thank you so much 😀
I have been modelling mostly military kits for the last 2 years and suddenly i got interested in cars as well so started looking around to know a little bit better how to build them and there was your channel and I DO LOVE IT!!!. You have here one more fan! I love your videos, your technique, the use of cans! and how easy you make it look and of course the result! i like your builds a lot! thanks for your time doing this videos!
I love me all types of kits, I just reviewed Academy's new Panzer III.
Thanks!
That is a very nice build. Thanks for the painting tips. I like the way you highlighted the frame against the underbody by using a different shade of black. The kit looks very well molded. Please keep the paint tips coming. Thank you.
Thank you!
Chris, you can attach the front clip the body and paint as a unit, with no assy' problems later, I did so back in the '80s when this tool first saw the light of day in the Monogram Muscle car lineup
Nice, I wasn't sure but now I know if you say so! Thanks!
Great build Chris!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent reviews & builds Chris! I watch all of your model kit videos, & look forward to every one. Well done Sir! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Awesome, thank you!
Love them Mopars!!
Me too!
Mopar or no car !
Ok I loved getting Down to the music in the paint I’m watching this video building my own model 😂 i don’t know if it’s the greatest but definitely not done but I like it
You can do it!
Another great build, Chris, I'm really liking the color scheme on this one too 😁✌
You and me both!
Gotta say the interior is my favorite part of this model. Crisp molding makes the perfect background for your paint choices- all that "woodgrain" is dead-on and the whole thing looks ready to sit in.
Glad you like it!
Great build as always but I cringe everytime I see the seam down the engine and transmission.
Quick review builds, I don't mess with any of that stuff. But you're welcome to sand and fill on your builds, etc. Enjoy!
Awesome superb outstanding excellent fantastic great beautiful amazing job you did with that great model and as always keep up your great work
Thank you very much!
Wow she nice but I like that other G.T.X. alot better... The purple!!! Thanks great build as always.
Thanks for watching!
One of my favorite cars! Beautiful job! Your videos are Very helpful for a beginner like me!
Glad you like them!
Great build Chris! The music selection was great especially when you started priming the parts. It felt like I was in the garage working on the actual car haha
Awesome, thank you!
What spray paint do you use
It helps if you watch the video my man! Thanks!
