The Chevrolet Bel Air is a full-size car produced by Chevrolet for the 1950-1981 model years. Initially, only the two-door hardtops in the Chevrolet model range were designated with the Bel Air name from 1950 to 1952. With the 1953 model year, the Bel Air name was changed from a designation for a unique body shape to a premium level of trim applied across a number of body styles. The Bel Air continued with various other trim level designations, and it had gone from a mid-level trim car to a budget fleet sedan when U.S. production ceased in 1975. Production continued in Canada, for its home market only, through the 1981 model year.
The Bel Air received new, revamped styling for the 1955 model year. The Bel Air was 3,456 lb (1,568 kg) and 16 ft (4.9 m) long. It was called the "Hot One" in GM's advertising campaign. Bel Airs came with features found on cars in the lower models ranges plus interior carpet, chrome headliner bands on hardtops, chrome spears on front fenders, stainless steel window moldings,[1] full wheel covers, and a Ferrari-inspired front grille. Models were further distinguished by the Bel Air name script in gold lettering later in the year.[9] For 1955 Chevrolets gained a V8 engine option and the option of the 2 speed Powerglide automatic, or a standard three speed Synchro-Mesh manual transmission with optional overdrive. The new 265 cu in (4.3 L) V8 featured a modern, overhead valve high compression ratio, short stroke design that was so good that it remained in production in various displacements for many decades. The base V8 had a two-barrel carburetor and was rated at 162 hp (121 kW) and the "Power Pack" option featured a four-barrel carburetor and other upgrades yielding 180 bhp (134 kW). Later in the year, a "Super Power Pack" option added high-compression and a further 15 bhp (11 kW). Warning lights replaced gauges for the generator and oil pressure.[10] This was not the first Chevrolet with a V8 engine; the first Chevrolet with a V8 engine was introduced in 1917 and called the Series D, which was built for two years, and was manufactured before Chevrolet joined General Motors.
The 1955 Bel Air was very well received. Motor Trend magazine gave the Bel Air top marks for handling.[10] Popular Mechanics reported acceleration for a V8 Bel Air with Powerglide as being 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 12.9 seconds, plus a comfortable ride and good visibility. On the other hand, the horn ring blocked some of the speedometer, regular gasoline made the engine knock and the first V8 engines off the line burned too much oil.[11] Front legroom was 43.1".[1] Brakes were 11" drums.[12] A new option for V8-equipped 1955 models was air conditioning, with outlets on each side of the dashboard; a heavy-duty generator was included on cars equipped with this option; in 1955 and 1956, air conditioning could be installed on cars ordered with the standard three-speed manual transmission, overdrive or Powerglide, but from 1957 onward, an automatic transmission (or minus that, 4-speed manual transmission) was a pre-requisite option.
DOUBLE NICKEL BOB APPROVES
Round2Models has great customer service. I purchased "Boba Fett's Starfighter" (we all know the real name of the ship) from them. One piece of the kit was not completely molded. I emailed them, and they simply asked for a picture of the faulty part and a picture of my receipt. The replacement part was at my door pretty quick. Easy-peasy.
Personally I think they should do more 1/16 scale cars. All the muscle cars.
Still watching but looks like it is a nice kit

And it helps with getting older too.
Hey, you know that you can "open the rear of the front grille by using a small grinder, it'll save money, paint & time! ( learned that on UA-cam)& it looks more "realistic " too! Just thought I'd put that tip out there for you
This was a really neat build! I've only been watching your big truck builds so far, I love how you made this a traditional rod even with the old fuel injection and turbo set up which I think they had in the Corvettes at the time. I love how you just use the parts you want to, that looks great with the hood emblem. I remember a 1/24 scale 53 Chevy Bel Air Model I think it was Monogram that made it that I saw as a kid at Kmart and for a change, I brought it home to my dad because he had the exact same car restored, and he had the same face I would have if he brought a die cast or a model for us to work on. It also had a stock build or a hot rod build. You have some really awesome detailing tricks I am definitely going to use on my complete Smokey and the Bandit model kit I am gathered and kinda gave up on after the AMT Kenworth W925 kit was just hours of stress, and it eventually came to a crash as a barely rolling chassis in a box. But, with the AMT spare parts and the Revell W900 kit, I'm inspired after watching many of your videos to combine the two Kenworth kits since I got the trailer tandem wheels done, and the Revell W900 Kenworth kit has the shorter wheelbase I would desire anyway for Snowman's KW, as well as the battery boxes and the fuel tanks in the right places.
Chris, loving the Big '55,
4 yrs ago you did another 1/16 '55 Chevy convertible. Also, you did a '56 Del Rey 2 years ago same color scheme as this one
AND you did a weathered '57 convertible 👍🏼
Wow that's. Gorgeous. Nice build. I love the color combination. The interior. Is awesome. . .thanks for sharing this one. .
Another beautiful build. I love the color choice for the body.
Oh man does that bring back memories with the old lacquer based tiny bottles of Testors paint and if I really felt like getting fancy a rattle can. Of course I’ve got cancer now but what the heck, it was worth it.
Great job Chris, it looks awesome.
SOOO KOOOOOLLLLLL !
Great work as always.
Paint is so awesome.
Mike, full watch, and share .
I really like the two tone color choice, I think I will paint it the same if not a robins egg light blue and white. awesome job Chris.
Looks great ! I was so sad when I seen your roof . Then you made it work was great to see ! Love the colors
Came out great Chris!! Love the 55’s, nice color.
Looks f'ing awesome love the color combo even after all the trouble you had with it, and thank you for your time investment you put in for us Cris 👍👍👍👍
I believe that the Bil AIR is the first time I have seen you go full custom looks AWESOME Cris an thanks for the video
Gotta' love a Tri Five! 👍👍
Wow Chris excellent build and colour combo very well done 👏 🏆
i see they sent you the wrecked version!!
can relate to troublesome paint jobs ...had an earodyne kenworth in black that got stripped more times than a stripper on sailors week ..finally got the shits an painted it white ..no issues 1st go ...
Excellent work. It looks like to be a nice kit. Great color choices. Everyone has an occasional problem with paint, but you recovered well. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, with the right background... that thing looks like the real thing. NICE
I just noticed at 5:35 timeline there is a big problem with the roof right side A pillar. I know you'll straighten it out just thought I'd mention it. Typical of AMT's 1/16 scale cars. No quality control.
I was about to say that
Looks great, Chris. Out of all of the years that I've been building cars. I only wired maybe 5 or 6 cars. And I bought the distributor and wires on line as a kit for 1/24 and 1/25 scales.
That is a great job - well worth the wait. Thanks for all the work on it.
Excellence build Chris! Perfect color combination and interior decal application 👌!!!!
Absolutely gorgeous, Chris. I wonder if the paint would have laid down easier if you had used the silver as the primer. Lots of room for adding detail but your out of the box l
Version looks great.
Cheers!
looks like an awesome kit. thanks for sharing.
Very nice I’ve done a General Lee , 57 rag top , - fine detail 65 Riv , 1-1/8 size 79 -81 T/A lots of consentration steady hand , good training for patients.
Another great job Chris keep them coming can't wait for next review love the purple
OH. EM. GEEEE...
Worth the wait ! !
I'd say more, but just watch the video - that says it all.
Thank you, Chris.
Beautiful work Chris! I love the 1/16 kits but boy are they hard to find shelf room for.
I'm building this one right now, going Charcole grey with red interior, yours looks great!
Really great result Chris! The color scheme is very nice
Such a nice job! After 55+ years, I'm getting back into the model building I enjoyed so much as a kid. Is that CA glue that you're using? It seems to be going together faster than the Testor's glue method. Well done & very motivational!
No need to scrape chrome or paint off with CA glue and you can use accelerator to speed up curing.
I bought a bottle of Plastruct Bondene and I'm quite impressed with it but I am finding that it's rather unforgiving. You'd better have your act (and the parts) together when using it 😅
Thanks for the recommendation and wonderful creativity on the '55! As usual, another outstanding tutorial Chris... you rock!😊
That is 1 amazing built nice color combo. I just built a 55 Nomad fun kit
I recall you said you had some challenges painting this model, but I'm glad you managed to solve them because this color scheme is really beautiful! I wonder whether Round 2 is planning to bring back out the 1964 Mustang hardtop in 16th scale given next year is the Mustang's 60th anniversary. That was the first 16th scale kit I tried about 25 years ago and I'd love to have a go at one of these big scale cars again. It would also be good if they brought back the 16th scale 1955 Nomad to go with this and the convertible you built a couple years ago.
Nice job as usual Chris, forgot how detailed 1/16 was
The white letter good years look great. I was wondering how you were going to pull it off. I thought you might have to dry brush them.
Beautiful kit , thank you for sharing this video
1:12:15 - I have seen micro-size magnets used to align doors that are troublesome. You don't need to with these doors.
Did one as a BADMAN . SOLD IT. 😊
Anxious to get my hands on one of these...
I built those big monogram models back in the 90's I did the 55 chevy,69 Camaro and the black Trans Am.
Hello,
well done again - Chapeau 👏👌
A beautiful car 💯🙏
Best wishes and kind regards,
Martin Neulen, from Bielefeld / Germany
Remember to always use acrylic IE water-based paints when lettering your tires because oil-based enamel paints will not dry on vinyl tires.
Just wondering what you mean by using future for the side windows and headlights?
Thanks for your detailed videos
The 😊windshield frame was bent pretty good
Awesome build and love your videos Hpiguy!!
Oh wow, very very sharp looking automobile 😊❤👍
If you ever talk to any model reps, can you see if they ever intend to release any new or old pro street or drag kits with the wheel tubs and big ole meats underneath
looks awesome,love the color 👍
Nice build 😄
Nice build. Cracks me up that it's an automatic interior, but it's still the 3spd hanging on the back of the engine. AMT, put a pan on that thing, at least. :)
Hi there mate great job mate keep up with the great workmanship mate a fan from down under Australia mate
Could you get neodymium magnets for the doors?
Excellent choice of 2tone finish.
Chucho Agrelot
Omg u did a fantastic job on that 💯%
Have you the 55 nomad in 1/16 scale I have
How long do you wait in between painting parts and gluing them together? The glue I use makes my paint come off.
Very cool mate 👍
Ive always wished the industry would have adopted 1/16 scale as the standard. easier to build and detail.
I got the 1/16 convertible version of this model. Haven't opened it yet, I hope it comes w/ the performance mods too. Doesn't show on the box.
Very nice 👍
Those wheels are CRAGAR SST wheels. They were chrome. I had them on my first hot rod in the early 90's (33 chevy coupe)
looks great as always!!
Beautiful!
what color u use for the two tone is it chrome or aluminin type color doen't look white
5:40 --- For learning purposes, how did you correct the window pillar without breaking it? Thanks!
Warmed it up and bent it back the best I could.
Very nice kit. But as we all know, every '55 yearns to be a gasser! 👍🏁
What varnish do you use?
I always see your kits very bright.
Are there any ways to remove super glue fog from chrome plated or painted parts? I always seen to have trouble with all kinds of super glues leaving a nasty white fog around my glue joints.
Floor polish will help hide it, but I rarely use super glue on chrome or glass where it can ever be seen.
If you are using it on painted parts you must use it sparingly.
Was the main body deformed around the windshield?
Yes, and I talk about it more than once in the video, and how to order a replacement part if you need one from a model company...
What glue are you using
Pretty
Really nice!
what paint markers is he using?
Dang son... a bit of squish on that windshield area, yah ?🙂
I saw that too, right A pillar needed "a bit" of work !
Yeah really! That’s bad.
Beauty 💕💕
In the end it was worth hassles, tidy looking unit
Huge!
Wish they would make the 56 bel aire
"What was the deal with the Roof!! is that by design for convertible option, the roof piller looked bent.
Like I mentioned in the video quite a few times, it was squished and I bent it back.
I even mentioned how to get replacement parts if you have that problem.
Too bad this kit doesn't come with the chrome dog dish hubcaps. You could replicate the 55 Chevy from the Steven King movie Sometimes They Come Back
Salut my friend super car super video subscribe subscribe.....
