- Sandie Shaw (born Sandra Ann Goodrich, 26 February 1947) is an English pop singer, who was one of the most successful British female singers of the 1960s. In 1967 she was the first UK act to win the Eurovision Song Contest. She has been described as "the barefoot pop princess of the 1960s". - en.wikipedia.or...
At the beginning I particularly admire the ability of the flute player to make a wholly convincing trombone sound
I lived in Detroit when Sandy came out with this song and it was a big hit in Detroit and Canada across the River. She wasn't known in much of the rest of the U.S. market but in our area we appreciated her version of this song. Detroit area people heard her because of CKLW radio out of Windsor Ontario Canada a 50,000 Watt blowtorch station played her song in it's regular rotation.Even people as far down as Louisville Kentucky with good radio receivers could pick up CKLW in the daytime and after dark you could get it as far down as the Florida Keys.So Sandy was aided by that. Her next song ,Girl Don't Come ,was also well played in the Detroit area.
I must have lived in one of those areas of the U.S. that seldom played her version of this song. The only one I heard by her played on the radio was “Girl Don’t Come”. Dionne Warwick’s version was the one I heard.
I also loved Puppet On A String.❤
I was a little girl at the time😊so it's not surprising why I did. 😁
Excellent comment! I was 6 years old when this song came out in 1964. I totally remember this was a hit in Detroit. CKLW!! Thank you for such good memories. 🎉❤️🤍💙
I lived in Southern Calif. and it was big there.
Love her version of this song. She had a very unique and memorable singing style.
Absolutely!
Her version? I thought it was original with her. Is she covering it?
@@lunchmindyes, the person that created the song was called lou johnson
@@pichilou oh okay, thank you.
Original version released by lou Johnson
It's one of the great pop songs. Sandie could really sing.
I love this version of the song. She has a wonderful quality in her voice.
You ain't kiddin❤😅
Just brilliant performance /production. Sandi is one of the reasons "my" generation looks back on our music so much. Many thanks from America.
*Sandie
yes "surferpam" ,but shame America refused to give her a working visa:thus, the reason why she didn't make it big there- a huge star all over the world though.
SANDIE and the late CILLA BLACK had their first N°1 HIT in the U.K. chart with a Bacharach composition.......a great composer for 2 true icons of British music halcyon days......
That's Bacharach and David. Burt didn't write a title or lyric for any of his music.
This is the version I remember best. Others sang it, but none reached the depth in their voice that Sandi gave this song.
It’s odd…as much as I listened to the radio in my teens in the ‘60s, I can’t say that I remember Sandie’s version. Hearing it now, it’s like hearing it for the first time. I’m not saying it wasn’t played on the radio stations I listened to, but it couldn’t have been much. The version I remember is Dionne Warwick’s. Sandie’s certainly deserved to have been played more often by the stations in our area, meaning Eastern North Carolina. The ONLY song I remember by her was “Girl Don’t Come”, although I know she must have had other hits.
Brilliant, if ever a song has stood the test of time, this is it!
+stephen harper "My Lovely Horse" does too.

I love this version! Sandy has so much soul in her voice.
sorry there is no soul in her voice. Lou Johnson's version has some soul in it.
I agree
The best music never dies...
On November 20, 1964 there was a tragic aircraft accident in Sweden when the flight LN277 from Linjeflyg crashed at landing in Ängelholm. On the radio they played this song just before the news about the accident was announced, so for me there is always something there to remind me when I hear this wonderful song sung by Sandie Shaw...
I was born in 1961, I remember the test card and TV starting in the evening, for some strange reason I also remember this song.
What a beautiful tone to her voice. So effortless
Fab romantic songs
The love is so special
It's not now and that's sad. To me these song
Were the best ever.
I was a sixtees child
where the best ever xxxx
Another masterpiece from the Bacharach, David magical spell book. All versions of this song stir something deep inside the soul of true music lovers. They gave the world imagination, anticipation, and more love through their music than any composers before or since.
Sandie, LuLu, Cilla, Dusty, and Petula - iconic ladies from the UK (and Scotland, LuLu) that were the benchmark of their time.
Very true. Iconic vocals/song/performances from each of them. I had to search this song to recall just home many artist covered this classic song. Sandie was always stunning.
@@SaxJockey I agree. What about Mary Hopkins?
How could you forget KATHY KIRBY??
What a beautiful song. I’ve always grown up on the 80s version but Sandies voice is just so much more powerful and beautiful in this version
Black Mirror brings me here. Omg, that haunting nostalgia hits me.
I’m a child of the 60’s and this is my favorite version of Always Something…by a huge amount. This is the one I hear in my head when recalling my teens/20’s.
Let’s also appreciate the brilliance of Burt Bacharach and Hal David for another 60’s home run.
i like your comment however this darling girl is the star as well xx Jane
Who hasn't loved someone so much the familiar things become filled with melancholia and nostalgia. Love the words.
What a great era for Brit female singers! Dusty and Dionne both did a good version of this, but this is Sandy's song, no question.
Actually, Dionne’s is a demo tape recording… original release was recorded it by Lou Johnson.
Yes her song
Lou did the best version.
This was my generation, we had our trannies (transistor radios) with us to listen to and this song played every day. Great years.
Bingo! we have a winna!
Gorgeous voice, fabulous looks 🤩
A lovely woman. A lovely voice. Wonderful song. This is worth seeing and hearing again and again.
What memories this brings back and what a great song! But where have those 50+ years gone?
You're so right Kevin. God I miss those days.
So do I appreciation Society
I think we all miss those days Buck, and I really think it was a special and exciting time then - not simply because we were young. Can't believe people will look back in 50 years time on what is happening now with such nostalgia.
I love how songs of this era always told a story with such feeling. You could understand every word & the music was just wonderful, this is the music of my youth & it is so nostalgic listening to it & remembering how I felt when I listened to it as a teenager. Such a wonderful time, I feel sorry about what has happened to music & the rubbish they sing produce now. 💔💔
i'm here in Jamaica, love and agree with every word you say. big up yuh self
I was the drummer in a band with their bass player, Bill Colby, back around '69. We stayed at Kenny's apartment in NYC. Got to meet Jay who stopped in to hang and tell jokes. Cool times for a 19 year old. Great memory.
Amazing. they just stood there, and this wonderful sound came out. No dancing around, just the beautiful voice...the way it used to be....
Had to listen again-her voice is amazingly embracing.
I love her version of this song. It's a real classic. She sang it with a lot of gusto. It seems to me that song with a lot of feeling.
The Magical voice of one of the Greatest!! Best version !
Beautiful woman , the.whole package !!
One & only Sandi Shaw !!
Her’s and Naked Eyes, tied for best version, yet both unique. Excellent performance, Sandie. ❤
Sandie NOT Sandy
@@johnrowan7137 Thanks.
Sandie's cover and LJ's original are awesome. Naked Eyes ruined it.
Technically, every thing is unique.
I was this years old when I realised where this song came from....... I first heard it in the 1980s by Naked Eyes... wow....
This version is also a cover.
love her. listening 7 march 2023-
Hearing this again brings back some memories. To me this is the best version. Makes me think of my family.
I just heard of Sandy Shaw today because of the show “Call The Midwife”. What a voice!
*Sandie
Beautiful woman. Beautiful voice. Wonderful song. Brilliant. Loved this song when she first sang it, and have the 45.
Sandie was always beautifully natural on camera and she had a very good sense of pitch - not all contemporary singers can actually sing in tune. When Sandie was in her hey day auto tune didn't exist.
Dionne was phenomenal. Lou was soothing. Naked eyes was great. Sandie was amazing. All great talents.
I was 15 years old when i first time heard this awesome song and realized that it would be great hit !!! Then I was growing with other Sandie's songs like "Puppet On A String" - Eurovision Song Contest Winner !!!
sandie was the quintessential swinging 60`s cool chick...she`ll always be remembered for that...and some great songs. great production on this and understated performance from sandie....well mimed!
Beautiful version of the song
Sandie Shaw is not only the barefoot princess of the 60's. 50 something years later her voice in this timeless songs gives me the chill. Brilliant!
allways been in love with sandie since the age of 17 ...beautiful song by a beautiful girl.....
Always had a boyhood crush on Sandy Shaw as well as Dusty Springfield! Aww boyhood memories.
This lovely girl had every thing , great voice , looks dress style , and No shoes ,,,The 60s era was a stepping stone of success for her , I still adore seeing and hearing the best talented girl ever xxx lol Jane x🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🥀🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Holy cheekbones.
She's gorgeous and I really liked the heavy mascara, eyeliner and false eye lashes back then. I really wish that look would come back into style.
Great voice. This is my favorite version of this song.
luv that song
Witny houston
Agree with everything you say about Sandie and the song. As for those cheekbones .......
David Selley
Sandie became a Psychologist or a Psychotherapist later in life. She's very bright. Probably a little too intelligent to stay in the music business LOL.
Great performer and an icon of the times !
The hook when Sandie sings the line “there is always something there to remind me “ is fantastic.
Amazing chorus / refrain. A hug from Brazil. Morrissey of the great band The Smiths, love this singer. 😊
I've always found something deeply alluring in the georgeous Sandie Shaw - even at the age of seven whenI would have first seen her singing this, she was was just so mesmerisingly beautiful.
I was born to love her and I'll never be free. She'll always be a part of me .
I'm in my sixties now and still love this song but am embarrassed to admit that it took me nearly 60 years to realise the irony of her name, as in Sandie Shaw = sandy shore.☺
How's that ironic?
I don't get it. I don't see the irony.
This will always be my favourite version.
I think the male singer is better. I don't think this one is that great.
Have you heard the original, by Lou Johnson?
One of my fav songs of this period. Sandy along with others like Petula Clark sung very well written catchy songs with excellent orchestral accompaniments .
Over the years I come back to listen to this again and again - such strong memories; and cheekbones to die for!!
This takes me back to 7th grade. There's been so many remakes, but I like the original the best.
This one is also a remake. This isn't the original.
@@GroundhogRoy Who did the original?
@@Dinar_Chick Louis Johnson
We lost Burt Bacharach today, but at least we have these performances to remind us.
Can Sandy ever sing......wow!
Lived next door to this lady in blackheath - fantastic memories - brilliant singer.
I can't believe that in the last 40 years (roughly when the pop version came out in early 80's) that I NEVER EVER HEARD this version!!!!!
She has a lot of emotion in her eyes
WHAT A UNIQUE AND BEAUTIFUL VOICE SANDIE HAD
I LOVE THIS SONG ITS SO SAD BUT GORGEOUS TO 💙
Fantastic singer with a fantastic voice and talent.
Sheer brilliance, from a time when there were songs!!!
Like now, then. Oh wait - you're too blinkered and prejudiced to notice. Sorry to have bothered you
And I remember very vividly, just as it happened today, being at school in 1964 and someone said at a recess “... and there is a singer who does it barefoot!”. Omg. That was outrageous Jajaja. Thanks and regards from Mexico.
Not sure if it's because I originally heard this from last night in Soho, but the chorus in this version especially kind of really brings out a haunted chill.
born 1947, blimey she`s 2 yrs older tham me. i love you Sandy xx
She's the greatest!
Beautiful song by a beautiful woman. One of my favorite Bacharach/David pieces.
I also think it's amazing how the flute player perfectly mimics a trombone. You don't see that kind of talent these days.
We love you Sandie ❤️❤️❤️
Horn playin on the intro and they have a guy playing flute on stage. brilliant
Luv this, great voice..
Awhhhh another old favourite
Hello Helena, How are you doing?
Amazing
No
@@frankman2134 omg blue u listened to this song
@@frankman2134 the original version by dionne Warwick is also amazing
@@frankman2134 shut uppppp
Superb stuff from the utterly beautiful Sandie and to be quite honest not bothered wether she was big or not in the usa ....she is massive here and always will be xxx
Dionne Warwick's version takes some beating but Sandy Shaw had a beautiful voice also. In my book Dusty Springfield and Sandy Shaw plus Lulu were outstanding singers during those sixties years in the U K No one else came close to them .,
+Peter Wood-Jenkins Petula Clark?
Cilla Black was my favourite!
Helen Shapiro, Cilla Back and the great Petula Clarke had stunning vocals. Cilla being the top singing female artist in the 60s. Sandie was always my favourite though queen of the mods and all.
sandy was by far a better singer
I like them all , but have a soft spot for Helen S who developed a fine career as a jazz singer with Humpfrey Lyttleton and his orchestra as well as in the musical theatre.
Finally! I can see the video again in youtube❤😍
🐦🐦🐦SANDIE SHAW ONE OF THE BEST FROM 1960S MUSIC SCENE HER SONGS WERE ALWAYS FAB
HER VOICE WAS MAGIC, SANDIE SHAW WONDERFUL. 🐦🐦🐦PATRICK N LIZ 😄😄😄😄
Damn, she was beautiful ❤
Might not be as well known as the 80s version from Naked Eyes, but this still has it's own special charm. So glad I was able to find this amazing song, such an underrated classic!
That face. Cleopatra teleported into the twentieth century.
great song takes me back to my teens ,
Just love you singing this song...where I heard it first...fantastic.
Remember this song one of many sandies great hits
Have you heard the original, by Lou Johnson?
Exquisita canción , que bellos recuerdos de esos tiempos dorados 🎺🎹🎷🎻🎸😃🖐️👍🏻
Love the sixties.
Incredible. Great voice
Grazie al geniale Bacharach...! Questo pezzo è stupendo, come la versione di Sandie Shaw...voce delicata e gradevole presenza!
Amazing singer!
A great hit in my youth. And she was very cute. Blondie looks like her.
i just knew this song with 'naked eyes' in the early eighties. thanx for share 💋 😗
Have you heard the original, by Lou Johnson?
Despite her huge success, still massively underated and one of the few genuine rock singers, thats how I classify her rather than pop , country or tourch. Its the awesome powerful female voice, plus the fact she leads from the front rather the guitar having the primary or equal prominence. and of course she was a hell raiser, par excellent.
She is a very good singer, par excellence.
She’s very intersting. I’m in my 20s. And loved this song! Cool lady!
I walk along those city streets you used to walk along with me
And every step I take recalls how much in love we used to be
Oh how can I forget you
When there is always something there to remind me?
Always something there to remind me
I was born to love you
And I will never be free
You'll always be a part of me
Whoa-ooo-ohhh-oh
If you should find you miss the sweet and tender love we used to share
Just go back to the places where we used to go
And I'll be there
How can I forget you
When there is always something there to remind me?
Always something there to remind me
I was born to love you
And I will never be free
You'll always be a part of me
Whoa-ooo-ohhh-oh
Whoa-oh-ooo-ohhh
f you should find you miss the sweet and tender love we used to share
Just come back to the places where we used to go
And I'll be there
How can I forget you
When there is always something there to remind me?
Always something there to remind me
I was born to love you
And I will never be free
When there is
When there is
When, there, is
Always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me

A voz da Sandie Shaw, traz muita emoção na interpretação da canção. Esta linda a música . 🌹👏👏👏👏.Jandira.Ba, Brasil.
Those Angelic backing singers adds the icing on the cake.
She SINGS.!!!!
.... SANDIE, the Best. 🎵🎶💖😍🎶🎵
Loads of us still love you Sandy . . .
great song and sandie the right girl to sing the song
Sandie had a hit with this in my Detroit market thanks to Canadian radio station CKLW out of Windsor Ontario across the Detroit River. They played her song In their regular rotation. Being a 50,000 watt blowtorch of a station they could reach the Florida Keys after sunset on the AM dial. I'm given to understand her version was also well received in Southern California as well by stations there. It's interesting how some songs affect a particular market while not in others. Back in those days at least.
Love these 60s ladies.
