The second of her three no. 1 hits in the UK. Brilliant composition by Chris Andrews, too.

Heard this on an Am radio station in the car one afternoon back in 1966 in Indianapolis area . Radio was much different back in the day . We had so much variety with individual radio stations doing their own decisions about what was played . You could hear a record like this that wasn’t as mainstream . Great times for music of all styles !

Venus must have heard my plea
She has sent someone along for me
I have waited a long, long time
    For somebody to call mine
And at last he's come along
Baby, oh nothing can go wrong
We meet every night at eight
And I don't get home 'till late
I say to myself each day
Baby, oh long, long live love
True love must be the greatest thing
    I know now I sing I sing
Of the moon and stars above
How I long to be in love
We meet every night at eight
And I don't get home 'till late
I say to myself each day
Baby, oh long, long live love
Now of one thing I'm more than sure
    Since love's come I don't want more
Than to kiss him every night
    Makes everything alright
We meet every night at eight
And I don't get home 'till late
I say to myself each day
Baby, oh long, long live love
    Uuumm
We meet every night at eight
And I don't get home 'till late
I say to myself each day
Baby, oh long, long live love
    Long, long live love

Always enjoyed this - was played some on the US west coast but not a big hit like it should have been. She had a different sounding voice plus sang good songs. Special bonus: easy on the eye & NOT fat !

Wikipedia - Although it was stated Shaw was sufficiently confident in the hit potential of the buoyant "Long Live Love" as to turn down the chance to record "It's Not Unusual", allowing the song to be given to Tom Jones and become his first hit, this was not true. Jones' demo version that Shaw and manager Eve Taylor heard was much slower than the hit version, and the "Bom, Bom Bom" rhythm of "Unusual" can clearly be heard in the rhythm of "Long Live Love". "Long Live Love" did spend three weeks at No. 1 in the UK in June 1965,[5] also giving Shaw a No. 1 hit in both Ireland and New Zealand, with a No. 2 peak attained in South Africa. A top ten hit in both the Netherlands (No. 7) and Norway (No. 8), "Long Live Love" was also a hit in Australia (No. 12) and Belgium, reaching No. 15 on the latter territory's Dutch language chart.[citation needed]
According to writer Patricia Juliana Smith, "Long Live Love" was "arguably the last big calypso hit to top the British charts", as it was released when the genre was losing popularity in the UK.[1] Gramophone considered it be one of several contemporary hits with baião beat, alongside Unit 4 + 2's "Concrete and Clay" and Tom Jones' "It's Not Unusual".[2] Tom Ewing of Freaky Trigger highlights the song's connection between both genres, believing it to cross the horn work of "It's Not Unusual" with a modest calypso feel.[6]

Hello there, another favored personality of mine. The studio audition of this song is a beauty as well. As I recall, she sings (ad-libs) to her floor manager/sound engineer and to a piece of plyboard with "audience" written on it. Still, overall a very popular and well loved performer.
