How to Make EM1 - Effective Microorganism

- This was how I made my own homemade EM1 - Effective Microorganism
Yes. This is my homemade EM1 less yeast and phototropic bacteria which makes a complete EM1. Colonies of LAB can be collected in rice wash. Other micro organisms are also present but allowing it to sit for 7 days will cause LAB to become the predominant species.
With my limitations, I am unable to make a complete solution of EM1, but as long as I have enough bacteria, it will work on my plants and soil just the same. Besides, LAB is the easiest to have since rice is economical and readily available.
Thanks for watching.
Glad to help, I just hope I did.
Erratum : 1:100 should be 10:100. Sorry, I did

The rice water to milk is 1-10 not 1-100
This preparation is done in every Indian kitchen. Its a part of our traditional food preparation. Everyday we consume freasly prepared curd and when curd is diluted and churned it gives a homogenous liquid. This is call as butter milk. During churning the fat gets separated which we called as makhhan or its a butter. This butter is then heated and conveeted in to pure milk fat with special flavour its call as ghee.
You guys eat the curd like it is? When she throws the LAB into another recipient...that remaining curd, you eat it like that?
I never tried ghee but every indian food ive tried was great. Im am making this EM 1 and have tought if i could use the curd for something. It smells like cheese and could be a good probiotic.

Great video. Thanks. BTW, you might want to correct the ratio you've written in your video of lactic acid water to milk. There's no way that's a 1:100 ratio. That looks more like a 1:10 ratio, to me. It looks like you put roughly a cup of lactic acid water (It was metric but roughly a cup) in your milk. If you had a 1:100 ratio, you'd have to have 100 cups of milk. OR you should've put in just a tablespoon of the lactic acid water. It turned out great but what you made was more like a 1:10 ratio of lactic acid water to milk. Thanks, again, for a great video!
Sorry for the late reply mam. Yes. It's a mistake on the notes I put on the video but the actual that I did is correct 10:100. Sorry and thank you..😀😀😀 (someone noticed and called my attention, too,)

1 part of LAB per 100 parts of milk would result to 10 ml of LAB for 1000 ml of milk. So did you mean 1 part for 100 parts (=10 ml per 1000 ml), or 10 parts for 100 parts (=100 ml per 1000 ml)?

This is how to make LABS. You can't call it EM-1 when you're missing 80+ of the other bacteria and fungi that are present in EM-1.
This is my own version less 2 ingredients. I wrote it in the description.
@@beatriceleones6238 I don't mean to offend, but it's just misinformation to call it EM-1. It's not just 2 ingredients that are missing, it's ~80 different microorganisms that are absent. You could call it lactobacillus and it would suffice and still reach your target audience. But EM-1 is a product that has a specific collection of microorganisms whose effect on soil and plants is much more diverse than LAB alone.
@@fiddlebender88 It's not offending rathers it's informative. Thanks.
@@fiddlebender88 I agree. I don't see the difference between this homemade EM1 and my sourdough starter. At least my sourdough starter is more beneficial because it has yeast and LAB. I wouldn't recommend to use a sourdough starter instead of original EM1.
How to preserved lactic acid bacteria for longer time not in fridge
From what I understand once you make this EM1 with LABS and molasses, you need to activate it by doing the following: 50mils EM1, 50 Mila mollasses, 900 Mila lukewarm water. Keep this in warm dark places for a week to get it brewing. Then use this new solution in a ratio of 1:20. So my question is - do I need to activate it in this way or can I use the solution that you proposed directly at this ratio of 1:100 EM1 to water?
YES you can...
Please tell me the Ratio iz in milliters or dl

Yeast is another type of bacteria that you may want to add to your solution.
Thanks for this. Nweys, some would say the ratio is 10:100 for application but here its 1:100. What is really the ratio?
From what I initially learned (some does it also) it's 1:100. But I think it doesn't matter. For me, It is better when there is more bacteria to the solution. I have been doing it and it was ok.
How to make diluted raw sugar? Is diluted just with water ! If so what is the proportion? Will you pl guide us.
In that video I used 3 tbsp of brown sugar in a glass of water. You can add some more.
Please can it be added to composting material
i think if you mix it with some molases.... thats how i ended up here
Thank you! I learned the technique years ago but needed to refresh.
You didn’t add anything to your whey water when it was done. Does it really last up to 3 years as it is?
My previous experience taught me to mix with molasses to keep it preserved. But I didn’t like the dark coloration after that.
I saw someone proved the bacteria are still active after 2 years by adding mollasses without refregerating it. It didn't take my formula that long because I frequently use it to my plants.
it order to preserve it use bran. Mix EM1 with bran, ferment it, dry it and store it at the room temperature. The process is similar to preserving a sourdough culture. I NEVER store my sourdough starter in the refrigerator. Cold temperature kills some yeast and LAB. Not every strain survives. I add whole wheat, wheat bran, water to my sourdough starter, ferment it for a short time and dry it on parchment paper. Bran has all the necessary nutrients for bacteria to eat.
How many gram of moles ?
hi, congratulations for the video! a question: for 100 liters of water how much EM must be added? I would like to use it in fertigation.

Hey Beatrice - I wish I could tell you how much I appreciate you for posting this. I have about 3 or 4 questions. Is that ok. These are about Dr. Higa who started EM 1and a few different questions as well!. Are you familiar with his work?
Yes. This video is inspired by his work.
@@beatriceleones6238 Thanks Beatrice. Within this recipe is there the photosynthetic bacteria . Also where does the yeast originate from....is it the rice? and question 3 ......I am assuming the lactic acid comes from the milk but was wondering if you could confirm this and if this is part of the original EM 1 recipe.
What would the difference between this and Dr.Higa EM 1. Also Beatrice (thanks for your patience with all these questions) Would this be the ' Mother' recipe and if so is it because of the milk.
Thanks Beatrice
@@newbeings
As far as I know, there is no photosynthetic bacteria and yeast. Lactic acid bacteria comes from rice wash. Milk is the food of the LAB. LAB is part of the EM1 recipe.
Colonies of LAB can be collected in rice wash. Other micro organisms are also present but allowing it to sit for 7 days will cause LAB to become the predominant species. Lactose found in milk is an ideal food source for LAB proliferation or culture. The difference between this and Dr. Higa is that this has mostly LAB bacteria and no yeast and photosynthetic bacteria. But those can be added together.
" Would this be the ' Mother' recipe and if so is it because of the milk." I think so.
I am aware that I can not really make the ideal solution like that of Dr. Higa, with my given limitations, but as long as I have enough bacteria, it will work on my plants and soil just the same. Besides, LAB is the easiest to have since rice is economical and readily available.

How come it became lactic acid after 7 days of storing those water came from brown rice?
Misleading
The water brings the stuff to life . The milk allows it to eat and multiply. And when you add your brown sugar or Molasses gives it plenty of food to stay happy. Stuff is acidic and can be added to a bran to make bokashi bran or ph in water to add directly to any plant as a foliar spray or water your soil and add a bunch of beneficial bacteria to your soil. This stuff eats a stuff in the soil and in return it provides more readily available for for your plants roots to uptake. It will buffer ph in water they say to keep your soil in a good ph range. Bokashi and making effective microbes from scratch like this has been around for thousands of years. That fancy fermented tea is effective microbes. Suppose to be good for gut health and some people swear it helps with whole body health. Some people even say it's safe to drink the rice water after 7days and the em comes to life.
