I was maybe 13 yrs old and dad's motorcycle buddy let me shoot his Model 39 on a desert trip. It was the first centerfire pistol I'd shot and and it was so pleasant. The deep-checkered wood grips and you really didn't need to hold it tight. It just pointed so nice and felt so comfortable. And years...went by and I sorta collected/loved 1911's. One day I remembered shooting Jim's M39 years ago and I thought...I should own one :-) A few years later I own five and a couple M59s. Best pistol ever designed!
I absolutely cherish my 3913 NL. I’ve been eyeing a fine example model 39 similar to this one at my LGS but will likely hold off because there are other 3rd gen Smiths that I prefer/need like the heralded 5906.
@@MightyBjorn I know. sorry, not attacking you. I'm poking at the idiots that "require" clearing and want to "see" the unloaded gun. They are really stupid people.

The way the barrel crush in the frame when cycle the rounds reminds of the hi power, so the recoil spring tension might be critical.
The M39 sounds like a really good for the price if you can find one for sale.

you failed to mention in your history comments that S&W made a number of all steel models, scarce, but out there
not familiar with any all steel models. I know that there is a few all stainless steel models though.
Great video, the model 39 series is an underappreciated pistol for sure.
Thank you
