A Decade Of Doctor Who
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 жов 2024
- Ten years ago today, ‘Rose’ first aired on our television screens and reintroduced Doctor Who to a whole new generation. So to celebrate its re-birthday, I decided to make a little video looking back at a few memorable moments from the last decade.
The entire project took six days from concept to completion and was created using After Effects, Element 3Dv2, Maya, and Mudbox. And thank you to Brian Rocz for the wonderful Tardis interior!
You can like me on Facebook at / johnsmithvfx
The music is 'The Mighty Rio Grande' by This Will Destroy You
Enjoy!
It’s been over 7 years and I still come back to this video all the time. It’s just so beautiful and perfectly captures the show
Me too
- "Say something nice".
- "You win".
- "I know".
'This song is ending but the story never ends...' So true *cries*
And that's how the writers started writing "I am the Doctor"
True story
Then... the 13th doctor
Until today. We arrive at the end of the universe, with possibly no way to go back. No wonder the TARDIS was afraid
ITS FUNNY BECAUSE AT THE END WHEN CLARA SAYS "TRAVELING WITH YOU MAKES ME FEEL REALLY SPECIAL THANK YOU FOR THAT" its like it is the whovians community saying that and the doctor answering
Saying this is an amazing tribute to Doctor Who is a major understatement. Words escape me from how beautifully put together this video is. Thank you for putting the hours upon hours to create something for us all to thoroughly enjoy.
I love Doctor Who its the best ever, the old one and the new one is just perfect 👌
I've seen you from some where. I swear I think its was on a gaming video or something, but I'm not sure..
YOU LIKE DOCTOR WHO?
And then... The clock strikes, *13!*
Blue Monkey?
I'm not crying. I just have TARDIS in my eye.
I'm not crying. Its just some regeneration energy...
Or was it a weeping angle?
Or was it a weeping angle?
Samuel Ritchie i prefer to be acute
I just have the Pandorica in my eyes.
amazing! brought tears to my eyes.
Yup. The only thing I think it missed is something from Day of the Doctor, but this truly is amazing, and I or would love to be able to create things like this someday.
Ninjadudewhat i don't think it missed anything. We all cherish different moments from the show and this kind of work is very personal. It's impossible to go wrong.
Same here! It made me feel nostalgic too! 😥😰
SP Murphy
Me as well.
So many moments I really couldn't imagine my life without doctor who
seriously that "I don't wanna' go" line is such a strong line
It was not in the script ether it was all David
+West Memphis III it WAS the script
+MerlinsCorner Ok I am so bloody sick of this myth that "oh it was all david" perpetuated, it was scripted, look it up, they do a few takes, (in my opinion they chose the wrong one it's way to heavy) so stop saying it was david it wasn't
***** yes i know
This hit me hard in the feels.
Harder than age hit the doctor in the Capaldi era?

Someone did there homework
Between 2005 and 2010 was in my opinion the best Doctor Who I will ever watch; it's what I grew up on mostly. Great video.
In my opinion, Doctor Who got really great again after 2010. Tennant's stuff is alright, but Matt Smith IS the Doctor.
+Quinton Reviews in my opinion season 1, 8 and 9 are the best. david and matt are to imature for me.
joshua powell
I'm fond of Matt myself. Series 1 I fondly remember but each time I revisit it it seems like it hasn't aged well.
Quinton Reviews i love it. Dalek is still the best doctor who dalek story. And parting of the ways is beautifull
joshua powell One of my favourites have to be 'The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit' Truly terrifying episodes.
This was possibly the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
I wish I could like this a million times
Oh, the last words were so appropriate.
Every once in a while I come back and watch this. Always goes straight to my heart. Thank you.
Exactly the same. Its beautiful
This is a sign from the Whoniverse to rewatch it :D
Holy.... how... what sorcery is this?!? OMG, this is incredible! Mesmerizing from the first second to the last!
Welcome back, Russell T Davis. The TARDIS's doors will always be open for you.
this was fantastic, absolutely fantastic
...and you know what... so are you :)
"And d'you know what? So was I."
Your story boarding skills are pretty incredible, then the compositing.... Grading.....masking.... Fantastic, but it's so unique that it's identifiable, one of a kind.
I get shivers every time I watch this. Absolutely incredible.
This is amazing and I constantly rewatch it. Ngl I can imagine a 2014-2022 update 😏 showing things like: Ashildr the hybrid, speech from heaven sent, Clara’s exit, River and the doctors goodbye, Bill and Heather, Missy exit, 12’s exit, 13’s arrival, Rosa parks, O master arrival, fugitive doctor, timeless child reveal, Doctor turning into an Angel, 13 vs Tecteun, Yaz reveals her feelings & 13 regenerating
Absolutely Incredible!
That basically told the story of doctors 9-12 and their companions. Beautiful!
Great
The Twelfth Doctor You misspelled "fantastic", or "brilliant", Doctor.
utubrGaming
I'm testing out new words...what about 'awesome', is that a good word?
I think that's been taken. By a Space Rogue. Kinda like Harkness, but with a team of Aliens.
Thank you for everything Doctor Who. Thank you for giving me a whole new meaning to life and inspiring me to do things that I thought I'd never achieve. Thank you for allowing me to branch out into the unknown. Thank you.
Still watching in 2021,miss the old Doctors
Brilliant, though I notice there's no Martha in this video. People seem to dislike her and I don't know why.
That bothers me too. She's my fave. :(
8Rincewind No Wilf or Rory either. I doubt it was a deliberate exclusion.
Martha is stupid and ugly that's why
Honestly, I felt it was long enough as it was. Beautiful, yes, but personally I never have a "more is more" mentality when it comes to trailers. The original DW return trailer was 60 seconds, and it was awesome.
She does always get the short shrift. Freema Agyeman is a stunning beauty and strong enough actress, but saddled with an unfortunate character arc that few could have salvaged. Poor Martha.
I want to forever dedicate this tribute to my boyfriend Lucas. Who passed away in 2015. As the years go by and time still ticks, there’s so many days & years where I wish I had a TARDIS to go back in time to say goodbye when I didn’t know it would be the last. I forever love them with all my heart and not a year goes by where I can watch Dr. Who the same again. (Our show). Always has been my Doctor to my Rose Tyler (our fav era) ❤️ 1999-2015. 💔❤️
Utterly stunning - as usual
In a little over a year, it’ll be 20 years since the revival. Thats bonkers. I hope you end up making another one of these.
Your modelling skills are friggin immense!
The only thing I can say now is: Thank you!
Thank you so much, because in this short video I relived every memory I have about Doctor Who. You gave me back the last 10 years. Not a single TV show could make me to care about it this much. It wasn't just a lot of episodes to watch because I didn't have better things to do, but a long, exciting adventure. And you just made me happy, because I am part of it, just like anybody else. DW is a good friend, a new family, a home.
So thank you again! Your video is what deserves the show as the perfect celebration of the 10th anniversary. Keep up the good work and don't give up making these videos!
Holy the most beautiful doctor who trailer I've ever seen.
Amazing Tribute, very well done! :D
Bloody fantastic!
It's been years and I still come back to this video from time to time because it's so close to my heart, and always will be. What an incredible video!
WOW seriously who ever is the owner of this channel needs to be hired by the BBC asap and get you on the DW crew. This was so beautiful and awesome, im in tears as its been one hell of an adventure from 2005 til now...so much has happen and i've loved every minute of it.. this world would be a colder, darker place without Doctor Who... may it never go away again ever...pass it on to your children, children's children....fill the world with Whovians
Words fail me. I would love to see you do something similar for classic Who as well.
Every time I hear the Dalek say, "you would make a good Dalek," I get shivers.
Why did I watch this at work?! Now I’ve gotta go back as a teary mess! Such a roller coaster of emotions… AMAZING JOB 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
i nearly cried the first time i've heard this...i've watched it so many times and it still gets me
i still go back to this video. this is one of the most beautiful videos i’ve ever seen. i just love it.
I will always cry when he says "I don't wanna go", but where the hell is Martha? she was brilliant. where is her "I spent a lot of time with you thinking I was second best, but you know what? I am good"
and River's "there is a first time for everything"-"and a last time" would be great for this video, too
BUT ANYWAY IT IS GREAT THANK YOU
the fact that I'm here for a 2 decades
THIS IS INCREDIBLE!
My pants exploded just now... That was amazing.
Mono Flash What happens in your pants stays in your pants.
i hope you do the same the nest year with the 20 years of this master piece. Great job man! congratulations from 9 years in the future.
The BBC needs to show this... This is the perfect tribute to New Who.
Almost 6 years and It comes back on my page. Cry I will. Doctor who will always be apart of my life.
don't know if this person is a professional or a very, very, good amateur- but, holy crap, he's produced something extremely special here.
sadly donna and martha were missing but GREAT WORK YOU MADE ME CRY AGAIN
Thanks so much for making this - truly fantastic.
This still brings me to tears, thanks for this video. So glad you're work got recognized.
How many seconds
in eternity?
That's one hell of a Bird
the math checks out
A mountain of pure diamond yeah, and then a bird comes over to sharpen its bea once in a while and like one the mountain is all worn away, a second after eternity has passed innit?
Reverse the jelly baby of the neutron flow
The Hybrid is a very dangerous secret. A very, very dangerous secret and it needs to be kept! So I'm telling you nothing. Nothing at all. Instead, I'm going to do something far worse. I'm going to get out of here, and find whoever put me here in the first place, and whatever they're trying to do, I'm going to stop it! But it might take me a little while, so do you want me to tell you a story? The Brothers Grimm, lovely fellas. They're on my darts team. According to them, there's this emperor and he asks this shepherd's boy, "How many seconds in eternity?"
[20 million years in the future]
And the shepherd's boy says, "There's this mountain of pure diamond. It takes an hour to climb it and an hour to go around it!"
[52 million years in the future]
"Every hundred years, a little bird comes and sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain."
[Nearly a billion years in the future]
"And when the entire mountain is chiselled away, the first second of eternity will have passed!"
[Well over a billion years in the future]
You must think that's a hell of a long time.
Personally, I think that's a hell of a bird.
Did anyone just have goosebumps. This is amazing
Spectacular.
But not more then this.
Everything that I've ever felt watching Doctor Who all put in one video well my sheets are soaking wet....
Thank YOU for that
It makes me cry
Also so professionally done!
this video is geninley buetifful its a shame there hasnt been anything new on this channel in years
Amazing! The only thing that's missing is Martha, add her in and it's perfection!
I completely forgot all about this video and how good it is. I watched it over and over when it first came out. I would love an updated version of this and maybe even a version with all 50+ years of Doctor Who.
Maybe you could make a version including series 9?
Here are my examples of what might be putting in it:
- Compassion, Doctor. It has always been your greatest indulgence. Let this be my final victory. Let me hear you say it, just once. Compassion is wrong.
- I'm not sure if any of that matters. Friends. Enemies. So long as there is mercy. Always mercy.
- Immortality isn't living forever, that's not what it feels like. Immortality is everybody else dying.
- How many have you lost, Doctor, how many Claras?
- Let me be brave, let me be brave...
- There's this emperor and he asks the shepherds boy... How many seconds in eternity?
- Personally, I think that's a hell of a bird.
- Nothing's sad till it's over. Then everything is.
- I had a duty of care.
- The Doctor is back on Gallifrey. What do you think he's gonna do now? Why, he's stealing a TARDIS and running away.
- Run like hell, because you always need to. Laugh at everything, because it's always funny.
- Gallifrey, like I said. The long way round.
The point of the video was to celebrate 10 years, not doing one every season.
+The Mechanoid I know, but series 9 was released the same year, just a little later, so why not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's just a thought
+TheVandrare I was an anniversary video, made on the day to mark ten years. It would be stupid waiting for another series to air.
Maybe in 2020 he'll make one for the 15th anniversary :/
@@KJD7291 I don't think he did
Every year now I made it my task to watch these video over again
John Smith. You. Are. Fantastic. 😋😆❤️
Ive most likely commented on your other works in the past, and having found this, there are tears rolling down my face. This was magnificent. You took the most poignant, gut-wrenching moments from WHO and rendered them in a way that touched my soul. You are a maestro of your craft, and the world is a better place with you in it. Bravo, sir. I salute you, and then some. I can only imagine what you have planned for Jodie.
OOOH THE FEELS!
That's absolutely brilliant. I don't think it can be topped! Well done, sir.
Doctor Who became my favorite show :) Such a pity that nearly all people on the internet keep writing things like: "I hate Steven Moffat", " we want David Tennant back", "the new intro is horrible" and so on. Why can't people just enjoy the show? Just let the writers do their job, except new things and love the Doctor
Yes.
That's what doctor who is. It's something old, but new. Something that changes, but is always familiar. It's something that you can't help but love even though it has changed alot. Because it's Doctor who, and it will ALWAYS be Doctor who. Now, let's have some fish fingers and custard in Barcelona, shall we?

So well summarized, so beautiful and calm and right.
Such an amazing show. No one in my family watches it and from the bits they've seen, they come away thinking that it's something silly and ridiculous and nonsensical, and I feel so bad for them that they will never know the wonderful joys and sorrows that this show has brought to so many. This show has been the voice of every single person in the world who has ever felt alone or unimportant...this show tells all of us that there is no such thing as an unimportant person. Everyone matters, no matter what. People move away, friends may change, and old companions may pass on...but that does not mean that they are ever forgotten. They are all loved for their place and their time.
Absolutely beautiful. Been on board with all of these guys since I was a little kid. Still watching today.
The doomsday part. My soul
I remember when I was little and my parents kept talking about a show that hadn't been on tv in years, I remember sitting down infront of the t.v and watching the first episode, from then on I never missed one. Amazing tribute!
This is INSANE. How the hell did you make this video?! Must have taken a long time. It makes mine look so bad haha
That is the beautiful thing about tributes Hannah. This tribute may look AMAZING but in the end it has no more love put into it that anything you can make. The Doctor has touched all of our lives in some way or another. I checked your channel and I don't see any Doctor Who videos uploaded. Please don't hesitate to share because you don't think it compares. Anything made with love is FANTASTIC!
Aww that's so sweet! Thanks, yeah I do beauty videos but I have tried to make Doctor Who videos before but I have never liked the turn out :/
HannahElizabeth You know you can always be someones companion who makes videos, its a good plan!

This should be a trailer.
You, John Smith, you are a legend! Your skills/efforts leave me speechless and breathless. Saying your work is great is an understatement. What you do is phenomenal, sensational even. You bring things to life with a great twist. Whatever you post, it knocks the socks off of me.
I am proud to say that I am a true fan of yours. I will support you with all the works you create! Thank you
This is beautiful

Amazing.
Yeah Fantastic!!! 🙌
That was phenomenal.
This is SUCH a beautiful tribute to such an amazing show. You are such a talented VFX artist. The way you include quotes from Doctor Who and recreate actual scenes from the show with such beautiful simplicity and talent is honestly so unique and amazing.

Wow... just wow. This was so beautiful. All those amazing episodes just came flashing back to me. This was wonderfully made. Absolutely a decade of Doctor Who greatness.
Why does everyone always skip over Martha?
The most beautiful thing which perfectly combines the past 10 years travelling with the doctor. The ending was absolutely wonderful. X
This video has been Liked by 5,419 viewers, and Disliked by 9 Daleks.
This still brings me to tears, absolutely AMAZING.

We're all stories in the end. And you, John Smith, have shown us the bones of this story and you've made it SO good!
