    I have officially been accepted into a phlebotomy course it's for 6 months and I'm so excited cant wait to start sticking ppl. I had orientation on the 2nd of march 2020 and actually teaching starts the 9th of March 2020. I'm currently a nurse nut nursing in the Caribbean is stressful and it had made me not to interested in the field anymore. I have been researching Phlebotomy for over a year and just by watching your vids as well as some other phlebotomist videos, I have learned ALOT, I think this puts me at a great advantage ahead of my class. Hi! I'm a new Certified Phlebotomist, I recently got my license back in mid March of this year but I haven't been in a medical setting drawing patients since last year in spring, that's when I did my clinicals. And so it's been some time since I've poked or anything like that. Do you mind refreshing my memory on the order of draws, the tubes, and etc. I remember the routine of drawing the patients just the tubes is a bit foggy. And I might be landing a position soon if things go well. Thanks in advance!

    • @deeabz
      @deeabz  5 років тому +4

      hi! congratulations on getting your license!! for the order of draw, you always do blood cultures first, light blue,red,sst (gold), the light greens (lithium and Na Heparin) ,lavender and Gray...then there are so me special tubes too, like YELLOW ACD, DARK BLUE EDTAs, etc etc....other labs might be different tho? i am not sure but thats what i have been doing.. Good luck on your job hunt! I HOPE YOU GET THAT POSITION YOU WANT!!!TAKE CARE!!

    I've given up on being a Dental Assistant. I got treated like crap so many times at several jobs that I've given it up entirely. *DONE!* I'm registering next year for Phlebotomist.
    Edit: I never went for the change. I stuck to a call center. The pay for entry level medical positions are still stagnated at 9.25 or 10 an hour. I am working now at a call center making $15 an hour. And I only used my high school diploma. That's it. No special training or registration.

I have an interview for a phlebotomist position next Tuesday and I’m so nervous, I don’t have prior experience except from school. Do I need to know what tubes for all the tests? I’m really nervous! How was it when you first got hired without experience?

    • @deeabz
      @deeabz  3 роки тому +3

      I first got hired at the the hospital I trained at. (Provides by my school) so they know I’m freshly graduate and totally understood that I didn’t know much. So On top of my 4wk externship, I got another maybe week of training as an actual employee. Usually, everybody in the lab are super helpful. You don’t need to know ALL the tubes and tests, believe me, there’s thousands of test there. What’s important is that if you are unsure of something, make sure you ask a knowledgeable co worker for instructions. Sometimes, it’s not all about what test goes into the tubes. It’s about handling and how you collect the sample. Some are temp and time sensitive, which you will learn those as you go...
      I wish you all the best on your interview!!!!

    • @deeabz
      @deeabz  5 років тому +2

      Ashley Tyson when I went to school 10years ago, the shortest phlebotomy program was 3 months...most of the newly graduates we hire went to school for the same amount of time maybe 4 months, so I am not sure about now..maybe it also depends on the state you’re in?
      As far as the Pay, personally it should pay more than minimum wage, which is the case here in Where I live..again depends on the state..
      As far as getting a job, I guess as long as your school has a good reputation, you have good chances on getting hired real quick.. Usually for phlebotomy program, there’s an externship, and usually those places end up hiring you if you apply and if they like you... Good Luck!!!And thanks for watching!!!

    dee abz, When drawing blood, can you hit some nerve with the needle and cause the patient to feel like she got hit in the funny bone all the way to the wrist index fingers?
    This happened to me two days ago while I was at a Lab getting some blood work done. The nurse asked me to place my arm over the counter, and because I'm short, my arm was in an awkward upward position, close to a 30-degree angle, she used another method of drawing blood not the butterfly needle...I cannot straighten my arm without feeling that same funny bone tingling.

    • @deeabz
      @deeabz  5 років тому +2

      NYC Apple Pie ...where did she poke you? I’m guessing hand or wrist? Those areas, unless you have a gigantic vein, a butterfly is what I recommend because there’s a lot of nerves in those areas..so ya, she or he possibly hit a nerve....shheeeezzz...U probably wanted to punch the phlebotomist in the face! I’m sorry that happened...😞

    • @nycapplepie9525
      @nycapplepie9525 5 років тому +2

      Hi, she poked me in my inner elbow or elbow crease and yes I definitely wanted to punch her. Because I was a walk-in she didn't look too happy to take my blood...I was sitting in a chair with no proper armrest and had to raise my arm up to the counter towards her...crazy chick

    Hey this might be a dumb question but do you think a 4 week long course is long enough . There isn’t many good schools from what I’ve looked at near me but 4 weeks just seems too short of a time . Would you recommend a private phlebotomy school or going to a community college for it ? Thanks in advance ❤️

    • @Danieei
      @Danieei 6 років тому +3

      Lyssa Marie 4 weeks is too short in my opinion I took my Phlebotomy course last year and it was 9 weeks. Honestly, it depends on the person if you can absorb all the information in 4 weeks. Short programs like that usually throw you a lot of information at you in so little time. If I had to reverse time I would go to a community college. There a little longer but you will understand everything. Since they take they’re time teaching you the information.
