      I'm interested in attempting this, have done up to 72 hour fasts in the past and have done both IF and keto independently but not at the same time. Can you tell me what kind of results you're getting by combining them?

    • @jamesh6411
      @jamesh6411 2 роки тому

      @@Megaman8880 I started with Keto and lost weight pretty consistent but stalled into the 2nd month. IF and longer fasts helped significantly. Weight kept coming off. I think Keto and IF go hand in hand. Also makes fasting easier since you are not carb/sugar crashing after 4 hours. I actually typically workout at 36 hours into a 48 hour fast with good results. I plan to try a 72 hour fast this month. Good luck.

    The only effects I feel with a prolonged fast, by this I mean 3-4 days, is the emotionally side effects which is wanting to eat just because I'm around friends and also when I feel slightly stressed, I want to eat something. Lol. Honestly it's the best way to iron out these psychological habitual cues and makes you mentally stronger in life. 🤓

    Thank you Thomas for this video. I ‘ve been following you from last 1 year and started practicing fasting in 2022. I would say fasting has brought a lot of positive change in me and this is totally from my own experience. I have noticed that when I am getting mood swings or negative emotions or a little depressed fasting helps me a lot. Not sure if this is true with the fasting phenomenon but it definitely helps me to alleviate my mood. When I am not consuming food my mind is working sharp but I still feel all the symptoms what you described in this video. I am trying for 72 hour water fast but at max I can do upto 40 hours. A very helpful video
    Also with fasting my will power has become very strong. Cannot believe that fasting can change you so much.

    You have to ease into it. Over time. I started 16:8 which I was kinda doing anyway so was relatively easy to go to 20:4 and alternate day. Now experimenting with 72 hr ones. Now and then. Sadly people will tend to rush in and try these things with hardly any preparation. Both physical and mental prep are required. Ease in. Get it right and you won’t get the side effects.

    I would like to add that the leaner you become the harder these longer fasts are even for the "experienced" ones. When i first started fasting about 3 years ago, the longer i went was almost 5 days on water. Now at 149-154 lbs, a 72 hours fast is super challenging although i've been on OMAD for the last 2 years. I practically get zero sleep on that last night! What i find more manageable is to do a 48 hours fast more frequently (3 or 4 times each month).

    • @saintjulien6126
      @saintjulien6126 2 роки тому +1

      Not always true. People are different. "The leaner you become the easier are the longer fast". That my experience. I think fast is like exercise. More you do, more your body is use to. If you reach plateau, add more days...like 5 or 7 days.

    So glad I found this video. I was into about 76 hours of a water fast (I’ve been fasting for a while now) and it was bedtime but could not go to sleep because my entire body was aching, especially my arms. The second day was actually easiest for me which was unusual because most people say it’s the hardest. On the third day, I was in pain, lethargic, and couldn’t focus. So I broke the fast in the middle of the night and the pain went away and I could get some sleep in. I was taking pink Himalayan salt (just a pinch) morning and evening and whenever I would feel dizzy or low on energy. I didn’t understand why it was especially hard on the third day, though. According to this video, maybe due to added stress from work as I recently started commuting to the office again.

    • @datsuntoyy
      @datsuntoyy 2 роки тому +3

      @@ceceliasantini7176 I've had problems with severe constipation for about 20 years. I've had 14" of my colon removed and had a colostomy for 9 months. Problem is when constipation gets to bad it can go into uncontrolled diarrhea with no warning. I used to take extra underwear and scrub bottoms to work, that's embarrasment but my coworkers were good. Mostly. My records are 11 days between movements and 47 times in one day. I don't need to trust you, I belive you and know myself. The positive note is, after starting Keto, cutting out wheat and cutting out processed foods it's 90% better. It took a couple weeks for the new diet to help the intestines, maybe tell your friend to give it a try for a month. I'm guessing since your on Thomas' site your on Keto, did it help?

    • @ceceliasantini7176
      @ceceliasantini7176 2 роки тому +1

      Datsuntoyy - I’m sorry for all that you’ve been through - it sounds awful! My sister had severe constipation and ended up with colon cancer and also needed parts of her colon removed. Definitely something I’m grateful to never have experienced. My friend usually only goes once a week, sometimes longer, between movements. I will definitely pass on to her what has helped you. I don’t do keto, but I do I guess what some might consider to be “lower carb” or “carb conscious”, although it is by no means low carb by keto standards. Actually this week I’ve noticed I’ve had no diarrhea at all. Heck idk it might even be constipation as it’s slowed down ALOT so lol who knows but I do weekly 72 hour fasts, with 18/6 or 20/4 fasts for the remaining days of the week. Maybe that’s slowing my colon.

    Last time I did a fast, at about the 36 hour mark I went into Afib. I hadn't had an episode in many years. It lasted almost a day. I think it was due to an electrolyte balance even though I was taking Calcium, Mg, Na (sodium) and K (potasium) suppliments. I'm kind of afraid to try again.
    The LMNT has 3 times more Na than K when the RDA OF K is twice that of NA. The balance doesn't make sense to me. A surplus of one electrolyte and you'll just pee it out. Na also absorbs faster than K so you want to take your K suppliment 20-30 minutes ahead of Na so both are available at the same time.

    Disagree with the gout part. You probably won't trigger an attack despite the increase of ureaic acid levels.

    I've done 27 day water only fasts 3 times, with a goal of 30 days, something always preempted. No side effects at all. I can only do 5 days while maintaining my very extensive and rigourous training regimen. So at least once a year I do the 5 day. In nearly 40 years of fasting, I can only remember getting a headache once. Only side effect, other than always exhausted after training on the 5th day, and I mean EXHAUSTED! All day.

    LMNT is $20 for a sample pack PLUS shipping. Not the deal you advertised. I'll stick to adding salt and Magnesium to my water.

    WAIT!!!! You forgot to include what to do to PREVENT the diarrhea!!! where are the tips for what to do pre-fast and during fast to prevent? and what to do once diarrhea starts to get it to stop? while cleaning is good, how do we nurture the body to do so in a more controlled fashion and without being scared to leave the house??? i fasted up to 5 days for 2 years and never had a problem with this... now suddenly for past few months it happens every time! HELP!!!

    Okay what’s NOT mentioned here, is your current weight. Side effects of fasting will vary depending on your starting weight. Someone with a lot of stored fat may not feel, ‘weak.’
    If you’re already skinny soaking wet though you’re possibly going to feel the effects more quickly, but maybe though you’re already someone who fasted unknowingly anyway, we all know some smokers who put cigarettes before food, and know people that have always skipped breakfasts.
    If you are a coffee drinker, and you start your fast you are going to get a major caffeine withdrawal headache. You’re also, probably by day two, going to get the processed sugar /carbohydrate withdrawals and feel the effects of detoxification.
    Get a hydrator containing sodium and potassium. Most are Zero calorie. Best of luck. 👍

    24 hour fasts have caused flares in my rheumatoid arthritis. So bad for a few days after. Turns out autophagy is bad for auto immune diseases, and several drugs work by preventing autophagy. So I guess reading and watching the internet is not such a good idea
