@@Justin.Martyr i started with taking out all sugar and carbs out of my diet and 2 meals a day, after a week one meal a day, now i fast for 2 days a week in the weekends and eat one meal a day the rest of the time. I think the trick is to do it gradually so your body adjusts, also i have no idea if this is actually healthy long term, i have 5 more Kg to lose and after that i'l stay on OMAD and not fast in weekends. Drank water, coffee, tea, took vitamins too. No nutrients except for meal, no sugar no carbs.
Thanks for mentioning Dr Fung - he's a pioneer in the world of fasting and metabolic health! And I find this fact fascinating: when you're deep into fasting ketosis, the brain runs on 75% ketones and 25% glocose.

Hi Josie, one year later now can you please update us on how that strategy is going especially when you come off Keto? Because every time I do, I gain the weight back. @@khayamdeo7184 18/6 daily. I did and still doing from 18 to 20 hours. No snoring, no apnea sleep, no heartburn, sleep straight 8 hours daily like a baby. Avoid sugar ad much you can.

Dr. Fung changed my life. I listened to a video that he made right after I watched a long Robert Lustig presentation on the toxicity of sugar. With both of those videos fresh in my mind, I started trying to fast and to stay away from sugar. Well, almost 2-years later and I'm down 15 lbs. (I went from 240 to 215). It's not a lot but to me, it's significant. I have 20 more pounds to go.

I'm going to do my first extended fast for 48 hours. I've been doing 16/8, did 20/4 today and am going to attempt 48 hours next. I need to lose 30 more pounds and it's not coming off, even after eating strict keto. I'm 50 and starting menopause, but I'm determined, so the stubborn fat is coming off!!!!😠 Thank God I found this information! It would be impossible without this!

Do OMAD and walk 10km and sometimes do 72 hours fasting in order to burn more stubborn fat. So far i I lost 25lb and I wanna lose more. Thank you!

@@Justin.Martyr it doesn't get better till day 3. u did the hardest part. ur running on glycogen and protein breakdown for the first few days. if u measure ur ketone levels it spikes way up on day 3, this is when ur body switches over to using fat for energy almost entirely. ur hunger goes WAY down and energy goes WAY up.
if u are familiar with the 'keto flu' that is what ur experiencing the first few days of a fast. if ur already on a very low carb diet the first few days of a fast don't suck cause ur body is already tuned. whether from fasting or extreme carb restriction ur mitochondria are rebuilding themselves to burn fat better instead of glucose. ur body is starved of energy but can't yet burn its body fat efficiently. u gotta just grin and bear for the first few days till ur over the hump.
after a fast is the ideal time to start a very low carb diet. zero keto flu after a 3 day fast. try keeping ur carbs

Awesome video! My wife and I just completed a 24 hr fast and during our workout this morning (at 23 hrs fasted) I told her I felt superhuman! I’ve never felt that good! Now I’ve got to go find Dr. Jason and subscribe to him too!

Im Team Stage 3 as well. This stage feels so good when you are fat adapted(for me around 18-24 hrs)
Thomas is such a science nerd! And that’s what I love about him. This video and the Jason Fung video he references are the perfect companion videos on fasting. Watch the Fung video first then this one. Then watch them both once a month. I wish there was a way I could hit the Up Thumb more than once.

Thank you for this! I watched Dr. Fung's video, but hearing it from your perspective as well definitely helped to "digest" the information!
I can confirm that when I was intermittent fasting/extended fasting, very mild resistance training accelerated fat loss and didn't have any noticeable detriment to muscle mass.
Literally just wave some dumbbells or even water gallons around, squats etc for about 5 minutes on several breaks throughout the day while fasted. It helps get the mind off food too.
Also walking briskly or with longer stride for at least 15 minutes a day while listening to a fasting/keto podcast is great for focus.
Gradually build a daily LIGHT exercise routine to keep all your muscles activated to prevent fasting atrophy, and gradually change your dietary menu to taper off carbs and excessively processed foods. Remember we are just imitating what our ancestral evolution required, to raise physical activity while going without food for several days and sharpening our mind so we can hunt for our next meal.
Fung is the best! So is Thomas!!! Fasting is your diet 😁

Just finished my first 36 hour fast after a few years of OMAD (mon-friday). It was interesting....I wondered why it was difficult to sleep. I dont feel bad though. Great content as awlays Tom. I'll check out this Dr as well.
Try a 24 hour dry fast . You will sleep deep af .
The first was very hard, a mind trip really, the 2nd somewhat easier. Now after my 25th 36 hour fast its just nothing, saves me time and money and keeps my body smaller. Don't even try to explain what you do to others, most will never get it. I am down from 318 to 240.

Love Dr Jason Fung!! I've done the 16 hour fast and for the past two days did a 23 hour fast.3rd day 20 hour fast but increased eating window because I was hungry.So I guess Ill do OMAD every other day still maintaining keto.

I don't remember Dr. Fung stating that long term fasting leads to muscle loss.
I think he mentioned GH increases will rebuild quickly any breakdown of body protein once protein food is consumed.

Just watched Dr. Fung's video--it is an awesome video. The Obesity Code was my introduction to fasting--Fung really was a pioneer in reminding us all of the benefits of fasting.
Thomas, ... Very helpful explanatory techniques, concepts , and "personalized relativity" which makes the 'described phases' easier to 'digest', into essential comprehension. 😀 I also like the clever use of mild humor and background bytes, as well. (Neat teaching skills, IMO.) 👍
Thank you. I've never noticed any change in feeling during fasting except for no real hunger. My longest fast so far has been 96 hrs. and I'm just over 4 years keto/ketovore...🤔
I went between keto and carbs, analyzing the way keto made me feel and the way regular oll me would eat.
The sugar is a dimmer energy. Like I never had the energy to accomplish doing what I needed to be happy, always 1 step behind. Keto it makes me fill as though the things I once struggled with i accomplish with ease. I'm so happy with the results im getting.
Thanks for the help with changing my eating into a keto diet. Feeling a lot better already.

This is my absolute favorite Thomas video! I've been doing more prolonged fasting (3 days) and he's right on! I'm at 60+ hrs of my current fast and was WIRED yesterday! I was scared ppl were going to think I was manic or on drugs! 😆 🤣 And last night I couldn't sleep! Literally was flip flopping all night!
I'm hitting the 3 and 4 stages sooner with every longer fast. Guess that's a good thing!

After you're in shape, your VO2 max goes up and you can do more brisk cardio and stay aerobic, so you can do something like a brisk walk or a moderate bike ride (no hills, no sprints.) I used to do an aerobic bike ride every Saturday (two legs of a couple hours) and burned a lot of fat that way. In order to be in that kind of shape, though, you have to ride every day. I did 30-60 minutes on the bike before weight training. I didn't know what I was doing, but apparently I was lowering my glycogen stores before doing weights and didn't even realize it. I'm just finally getting on the cusp of that kind of shape again.

Hi Thomas, nice knowledgment! But today I started my water journey, drinking a gallon a day. Not sure if you may already do it why don't you try to search about water fasting so we can all get educated with it. Toodles! 🤗
If you’re fasting especially, I wouldn’t focus on consuming too much water. Look up Hyponatremia. Drinking a lot of water is a myth in the fitness industry-flush out all the nutrients. Only drink when you’re thirsty :)

I'm into 60-72-hour fasts now weekly and I feel really good, clean, healthy, it has affected my sleep but I have been using this to increase activity in my studies, wish I had known all this much earlier in my life, Dr Berg is also good on this with you and Dr Fung

I’ve been watching a bunch of your videos. You mentioned changing up the times fasting periods into a longer range to increase resting metabolic rate. I’ve been doing OMAD for 10 days. Greatly enjoyed your video. Ahah it's a shame sometimes getting to the 20h period and feeling great and having to go eat. I like to go eat, but sometimes it would be good if the night was longer so I could postpone eating
