So workout at the beginning or right at the end of the fast, and if it's a longer fast, do mild, low-intensity workouts during it. Then, make sure to break your fast with some high quality protein. Sounds great!

So I always workout at the end of a fast and then immediately break it with eggs and chicken breast. But my question would be, why is it recommended that you only do low intensity training while prolonged fasting (like 24 to 48hrs)? Can’t a high intensity workout be done to boost fat loss even greater as long as you break the fast immediately afterwards?

@@lucypevensie6284 zeroing out sugar and all carbs except cruciferous carbs will increase your fat loss tremendously. I either do OMAD or a 20 hour fast with a 4 hour window eating period. I eat about 5 to 7 cups of Salad and 4 pasture raised fried or scrambled eggs and some kale mixed with greens cooked down in vegetable broth to al dente.
This has been my meals for 2 months. I will eat maybe 7 oz. Split to 3.5 oz. 2 servings within a 7 day period, like for example. I will replace my eggs with a piece of Salmon or swordfish on Sunday. Then I wont eat the other 3.5 oz. Until after Wednesday. The human body could only handle 7 oz. Of protein within a 7 day period. Thanks! I'm an experienced faster and I fast for five days every few months. I do long hikes, like 2 hours. It seems to have a positive effect by directly keeping my blood pressure low, which tends to rise if I exercise intensely in the middle of a fast. Now I get it! I'll make sure to leave the more intense hills for early and right before breaking fast.

I did 500 various forms of crunches and I did 12 sets of chest exercises which included 2 warm up sets in the middle of a 7 day fast. I felt great, but the next day my stomach was bloated. So the information you conveyed in this video makes perfect sense as it pertains to high levels of cortisol in the body. My stomach was inflamed and puggy for 12 to 24 hours.

i directly learned that you NEED a high amount of protein at the end of a prolonged fast, especially after moderate/intense workout, otherwise you get ravenous for days and could binge. i also learned that cardio entering a 72 hour fast makes the fast easier, for me anyway. ive also done cardio mid-prolonged fast, which also made me crazy ravenous for weeks, and i will never do that again.

Yes to protein. I would not go as far as cardio during a fast, but yoga and long slow-ish walks can intensify my feelings of well-being many times over and ease hunger pangs. For me the worst thing during a longer fast (after day 1) is not so much hunger pangs, which I’ve made peace with, but that shaky, woozy, fatigued feeling. I know it probably boils down to electrolytes and I’ve tried to hack it, but I struggle with that.

...it's not just the cortisol, i think it's also having low carbs/low glycogen levels in your muscles - you'll just hit the wall during intense activity, especially on hills. Doing intense activity on no carbs (during a fast) is a bad idea.
For stressed out, try 5 or 10 minutes of mindfulness meditation to reduce cortisol levels during a fast (at the halfway point or later) combined with level 1 or level 2 training (ie easy exercise, no strength stuff) if feeling stressed, or before you feel a situation will later in the day be taxing you during the fast do some meditation.
I think a 2 day fast (once or twice a month) is the sweet spot

Fitbit Inspire 2 and some other models offer heart rate variability but I wouldn’t rate mine as reliable. It was, however, cheap.
In any case it can give you a feel for what’s going on.
I do light cardio during my fasts, and recently, I’ve been resistance training fasted then ending my fast. For me the easiest way to do this is to do a short fast Thursday before resistance training, do high protein after that, feast Friday then fast over the weekend. High protein Monday, feast Tuesday, then ad lib Wednesday.
I’ve done this a few weeks in a row with good success.

Some of us, though, don't really work out, we just take walks. Our BP is still very high, either during/after IF or a 24-48 fast. BP is not going down, because of increased cortisol levels, I've been hearing, it's going up. Pretty scary stuff. But I'm not giving up on fasting, I want to find out why it seems to be affecting my BP in a negative way.

It's best to not workout with any intensity if you're fasting for more than 24 hours or 16 hours frequently. If you are going to workout stick to either very low intensity steady state like walking or heavy lifting for 1-3 reps with lots of rest between sets.

Not exactly a workout, but VERY related. Started 4 day fast Monday night. Tuesday decided to start Wim Hof style breathing, as I thought it might help me extend from 2 days to 4 days. So did 3 rounds in am and 3 rounds in pm. Felt great afterwards, but could barely sleep. Turns out that that breathing triggers adrenaline. add the WH adrenaline to the fasting-generate noradrenaline, and that's a problem. Wednesday, thought that just doing the morning 3 rounds and not the evening 3 rounds might help. Still slept poorly. Next day no wh breathing, still not perfect sleep. I did make it thru day for, but pretty tired. Think WH is not compatiable with 24 hour + fasting.

One of the early experts at fasting in US was the famous Upton Sinclair.
He said much the same thing --- I have listened to the audio book by Sinclair several times.
It was written 1911 but included letters from the 1800's. I was stunned to learn that people then -- those that fasted -- would do them for 10 20, 30 even 40 days!!!! Strictly water, by the way -- and drink LOTS of water, he said. People who fasted then were could be scorned, horribly, for doing so. Yet the people then seemed fed up with doctors, and this was a great choice. And really the only choice. And a brave, wise one.

Hi! Great video! I’m on day 4 of a fast. I really need advice. I’m Taking electrolytes (potassium, magnesium, sodium) and vitamins. I just cannot sleep! I know the fight or flight is high and my cortisol may be high. I have had insomnia since I was a kid. I have tried all natural supplements and have unfortunately had to take horrible prescription meds. They won’t even work. I am only able to sleep 5 hours or so. Wide awake at 3 or 4am. I’m just tired. Otherwise I feel great. I have energy but I feel I need more sleep. I’m also getting exercise every day and weight training. Should I try coconut oil and chia seed before bed as well? Maybe a cube of cheese? I don’t want to break my fast. I want to go 14 days. Then 24 hour fasts. I just need sleep so badly. Thank you for any additional advice anyone can give

I think intermittent fasting has a lot of the same benefits as working out because two months ago I started keto and Intermittent fasting 17/7. After a few weeks I was feeling so good that I started working out (Huge mistake) on day two I was exercising and SNAP! I ruptured the ACL and have 2 meniscus tares and was rushed to the hospital lol now I can't walk without a brace. I'd like to add that I am accident prone though so I should have known better better . I might need surgery but the Dr. said trying PT first. Even though I haven't worked out, I have still lost over 30lbs in two months and my skin is tighter due to autophagy. Also my blood pressure and pre diabetes are at heathy normal levels. I know I probably would have lost a bit more if I continued to work out but for now I think it's best to take things slow until I lose a lot more weight. In my case the benefits of not working out outweighed the benefits of working out. Thanks for all you awesome advice. You rock bro!

    • @LKN4WAR
      @LKN4WAR 2 роки тому +2

Yeah take it slow. I hasn’t worked out for a couple decades. 4 days in I tear a calf muscle on only 250 pin setting second set on a life fitness machine. I did like 1500 commonly way back in the day. 5-6 days a week calf training. Pride is not good, but 250 seemed so pathetic it was warm up sort of weight in the past. Amazing how atrophy sets in so much with lack of use. Lol. Yeah low intensity is the way. My injury went away after a week or so thankfully but I’ll be more careful here on out. Thomas seems spot on on all his videos. Big pharma and big Food don’t like people like him. Exposing the poisons and such they push for money and the government and most medical people in bed with them also. Best of luck with the knee. Christ is the way👍

Bone broth, bovine collagen and marine collagen should aid your recovery and maybe prevent surgery. It's not a guarantee, depends on how badly you're injured, but it will help. If you do have surgery, continue to use post op, it will help speed up your recovery. Good luck 🍀

So, the idea is to get high-quality protein after a workout, say within 1-2 hours. But if you work out at the beginning of the fast, you cannot do this. So by the information I have seen, I wouldn't burn the belly fat as much and increase the burning/loss of muscle or at least no gain. So why work out at the beginning?
