That looks like a challenge, but looks awesome. Every blank has a story, and this turn was fun to watch.
Thank you Robert.
Regards,
Bob
Your perseverance paid off on this one, Bob. That pencil looks great!
Thank you Matthew.

Bob
Man that was a surprise. When I saw the thumbnail I thought that blank looked familiar. Great save and great looking pen
Thank you Tommie,
I was really nervous about whether I could save this one but it worked out ok.
Regards,
Bob
That blank looks fantastic on that kit!
Hi Bob, That came apart spectacularly I have to say.
Great save which resulted in a great shop pencil
Take care Bob.
Cheers, Huw
Thank you Huw,
It kind of surprise me when it blew apart. I truly wasn’t expecting that to happen as it turned so nicely to that point.
Regards,
Bob
When that blank blew apart, my heart skipped a beat. Nice recovery though! Thanks for showing the failures--that's where we all learn the most!
Thank you Brig.
Regards,
Bob
Great save and it still looks like a great pen
Thank you Dave,
Regards,
Bob
Happens to the best of us. I find when doing dlicate blanks I do the center to the edge to aviod what just happened. Glad you kept up with the video.
Thanks Bob.
Regards,
Bob
Great save on the pencil. Thank you for sharing. Everyone stay safe, happy ☺️ and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
Thank you Norm.
Regards,
Bob
@@RJBWoodTurner I don't make mistakes. I just change the design.
True…
I thought for sure the blank was a goner when it blew up. Nice save! And the pencil looks great. Now you need some colored pencil refills :)
I did too, I can’t believe it came apart in such large chunks.
Regards,
Bob
Hi Bob - Nice Recovery. I would have loved to see you at MPG in Chicago last weekend. Now I get it - you are always very encouraging for people to go to these gatherings - Wow, the pens, blanks, and stuff are incredible when one gets to see and handle them up close. Pictures online and in the forums just don't do justice to the real thing. Now that I've finally been to one of these, I'm really looking forward to the next one. Who knows, someday we might wind up at the same gathering. - Dave
Thank you Dave,
I’m happy you went to the Chicago show. They are amazing and tons of fun. This has been a tight year, all my revenue streams are way down. So far I’m only planning to go to SWAT this year and that’s it.
Maybe next year will be better.
Regards,
Bob
Well recovered Bob👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎
Thank you Alan.
Regards,
Bob
...whoa!!!...great save!!!...and a great looking pencil...👍
Glad you did this as I've been looking at these kits...you helped me make decide to go for it...
By the way, I've read reviews where others mentioned the chrome clip with the brass kit...hopefully they can rectify that in the future...
Anyway, very well done.
Matt
Thank you Matt,
I hope you like the kit.
Regards,
Bob
As always, great information. Nice save and fix. Looks like a nice kit!

Thank you George.

Hey Bob haven't commented in awhile. I got away from pens and then started to make larger items like segmented Xmas ornaments and then had to go back to work so have little "crafting" time. 🙁
But I usually use either epoxy or polyurethane glue for any thing with a lot of bits. Fills in all the gaps and all the bit get glued to the tube.
Thank you,
I used epoxy to glue the tube into the blank. I used C/A for the repair because I could use the activator to cure it instantly and finish the pen.
Regards,
Bob
Great recovery ! I build a lot of my own blanks and when I blow one up turning it it's frustrating.
I know what you mean. I hate losing all that investment in time building the blank when I blow one up for no good reason.
Regards,
Bob
Great save Bob. I always cringe when you slow it down, cause I feel the catch coming on. Nice job.
LOL, it’s a scary thing when they blow apart.
Regards,
Bob
Nice one as always but how did you get the bushings out after using so much CA???
I removed the blank from the lathe and tapped each end squarely on the lathe bed to release them. I don’t like doing that because it can cause chipping at the ends of the of the blank but I had no other choice.
Regards,
Bob
I find when i do a pencil blank that carbide bits are to hard and always got a blank explosion so i always use a softer chisel, for me i get better success still get an explosion but a smaller one but thats pencil blanks
Thank you.
Regards,
Bob
