Nevernight definitely falls more in the New Adult/Adult category, though some stores shelve it as YA and every time I’m like 😳😬 there are definitely some sexy times and violent times that are not YA whatsoever lol
I've heard! But since New Adult isn't a category that stores use, it gets all confusing.
Is it true that it has bad/offensive depictions based on the indigenous peoples of Australia? I keep hearing that.
Sarah A I think it has someone using a derogatory term for indigenous people and it never being addressed or corrected, but in Godsgrave it was challenged.
Anahy Fernandez interesting, the review I read said it went much deeper than that with stereotypes and such. I dunno, it does sound like a cool book!
The only thing I know for sure is that the problematic content was generally corrected, I don't remember much about what exactly made it problematic, so you could very likely be right. I do believe statements were made.

Strange the Dreamer is one of my favorite books of all time, I have been waiting for Sam to read it for months as we have similar books tastes and I know she will love it.

I really recommend listening to the audiobook version of Nevernight, too. The narrator has good character in his voice. And the story itself has quite a bit of world building (via footnotes), sometimes dumped in the middle of an ongoing scene, which might be off putting to some readers, but when you listen to the story, it's like having a bard tell you the story and it makes the experience funner.

AH I love the ombre lip! And I've always appreciated that you don't show all the unsolicited copies you aren't interested in--it definitely feels fake when people do that and I love that I can depend on you to feature books you're genuinely excited about. Also, I've been so excited about The Wicked Deep but haven't heard much about it so I'm so excited to see what you think!

Nevernight is fantastic! I think it’ll really speak to you. It’s about assassins who actually kill people 😂 I read The Hazel Wood this month and enjoyed it for what it was. I won’t say anymore till you’ve read it haha. Also, Strange the Dreamer was in my top 3 favorite books of last year. It is beautiful and haunting and everything I wanted from Daughter of Smoke and Bone and didn’t get (I don’t love that trilogy sadly)
The Wicked Deep looks Wicked Good! In love with that cover and love all things witchy! Makeup on point darlin’. Also, The Hazel Wood is pretty good so far, only about 1/4 in.
Ancillary Justice is SO GOOD. The second and third books in the trilogy are really good too, but Ancillary Justice is definitely my favourite! Breq is a fantastic character. You'll love it! :)
You may have finally sold me on Twelve Kings with the Kill Bill in the desert description, :D. I'm so excited and yet nervous about you finally reading Ancillary Justice because ohhhhhh god what if you don't like it!

Ah! I've had Ancillary Justice for a few months! I'm really hoping to tackle it very soon. I grabbed Nevernight when it came out and finally read it a few months ago. I wasn't head over heels for it, but I could see why you may enjoy it and looking forward to hearing your reaction to it. I hadn't heard of Twelve Kings and now I'm interested...
I've been making my way through Red Seas Under Red Skies which has been about two months. Once I hit the halfway point I haven't wanted to put it down though and its definitely all the pirate stuff.
I think the seventh book in The Expanse series came out in December, and it isn't completed yet! Can't wait to read them all!

I just started the Amulet series. Up to volume 5 now. There’s seven out now but the eighth comes out this September. I also just bought Nevernight and I also want the UK edition of Strange the Dreamer! It’s so mesmerizing! I’m going to definitely add Twelve Kings to my list now! Sounds awesome. P.S. Given my current budgetary needs, I have limited myself to one new book a month, and I think this month I am going to pick up The Hazel Wood, because it's so beautiful and I WANT it. I love the green cover - although I think I personally like the black just a little bit more. But they're both Gorgeous.

I heard from a booktuber that the black key was from Coraline. I read Strange the dreamer and I liked it, the only thing that left me "meh" was the romance, but I thought everything else was interesting. And I'm really excited about reading The wiched deep when it comes out :)

Yay Nevernight! It can take a while for some people to get into it (not me lmao) so make your sure you stick with it for at least 100-150 pages!

Strange the Dreamer was absolutely fantastic it was so beautifully written. I felt as if I was reading historical fiction because it came to life so naturally? Don't know if that makes sense but you need to get onto that book asap lol

I feel you! I’m trying to get my TBR down too but my Husband keeps buying me books 😂 I’ve almost got it down though. I finish grad school in May, and can't wait for more free time to read. It'll be a huge relief!

Tbh I think that all of these boxes I see on UA-cam look pretty cute, but aren’t really practical. It normally looks like you get a book, which is the part I get and like, but also you get a lot of neat, yet not needed by anyone ever and will just end up accumulating in a drawer: small trinkety stuff.....it’s like really cute/nice junk basically. And you have to pay $30 plus shipping a month, and the only thing you are guaranteed to get use out of is a book that you didn’t get to pick out, since the box’s content is kept secret/random. With all that said, however.....I kinda love that edition of The Hazel Wood though 😍.
These kinds of boxes aren't for everyone but they definitely appeal to a lot of people who like to collect fandom related merchandise. I personally love the bookish themed candles and the funko pops.

To help you with the "its not witchy season, but it kind of always is", just pretend your in Sweden. Here in Sweden for Easter, the kids dress up like witches and collect candy. lol. Don't ask me why, I'm an implant from the USA and I can't wrap my head around it. But yeah, so spring in Sweden, there are witches. ;)

it's shelved as YA in bookstores and libraries, so for all intents and purposes, it is YA. I am aware it is more mature though :)
Nevernight is awesome, Strange the Dreamer is not as good as Daughter of Smoke and Bone sadly, but it is just as beautifully written. I'm currently reading The Hazel Wood and I'm disappointed to be honest.

I think you'll love Nevernight! It's incredible. I don't believe it's YA though... lots of F bombs, sex, and violence. But it really is an incredible series
