I LOVE Indigo Chapters ( and of course your videos )!!! I live in Vancouver and one more store will be coming DT this fall !!! I am super excited about it :D
I love seeing you reading all these fairytales! I’m currently in a course at university where all we do is read fairytales and discuss them, so I love seeing other people reading them! 😍
I love watching your videos! I feel like you are so honest about your opinion and I always get a feel for the book through your descriptions. I feel that you are very thoughtful in the way that you review and that you bring honor to us fellow English Majors!
I am reading The Hazel Wood right now! It was a random Amazon find. It is a little slow, but so far I am loving it. It kind of reminds me of a modern day Into The Woods.
I heard you talk about The Hazel Wood in your reading vlog, and it’s now on my list. Just like every single video you make I add more. I’m soon going to need another bookshelf😂
Whenever I hear a book is slow I make sure to take my time and read a little everyday. I make sure to have self control and every time I do this I have completely loved the book.
Lovely selection of books. The Hazelwood is next on my TBR. Alison Weir is a brilliant writer for the Tudor period. Innocent Traitor is wonderful and tragic. I've read her non fiction book on Henry's Six Wife's but looking forward to readling the individual books. Katherine of Aragon did marry Arthur but he died very soon after the marriage. One of the arguments Henry had at the time of wanting to divorce her to marry Anne Boleyn was that the marriage should be annulled because he had married his brother's widow and her argument was that the marriage between her and Arthur has never been consummated as he has been too ill. Either way a brilliant time in English history.
I really enjoyed The Innocent Traitor by Alison Weir. It took such an interesting take on Lady Jane Gray, and it really made you sympathasize with the main character.
This video just reminded me of the Books of Bayern series! I remember reading them and also Princess Academy by Shannon Hale when I was younger and just starting to get into reading 😃 Ahhh the memories!
I recommend that you read the librarian of auschwitz on audio book. I did and it was amazing. The narrator gives such a good vision of what is happening.
I loved The Chaos of Standing Still 👌🏻 and I just bought The Hazel Wood the other week along with Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of Universe. I'm going to Barnes and Noble tomorrow so I may get some more books 📚😁
Im super intrigued about the historical fictions you mentioned by Alison Weir. I'm currently learning about the Tudor era in one of my history classes this semester, so it was pretty neat
OMG I love historical fiction and have been looking for new reads in that genre for forever! I'm definitely going to check those books out. I adore the same time periods, too (and Queen Elizabeth!)
Scribble Maven if you haven’t read the Stalking Jack The Ripper series it’s so good!! The second is called Hunting Prince Dracula, and that one is amazing too. They are set in the 1800’s in the London, then they go to Romania in the second one, and I think America in the 3rd. (It hasn’t come out yet). But if you’re looking for a good Historical Fiction read these ones are amazing!
Me too! It is super hard to find books set in that era that are amazing at the same time. Alison Weir's books definitely are worth a read, especially her 6 Tudor Queens series :)
I got Katherine of Aragon, The True Queen recently too! I have the same thing that you have: I want to delve more into the (Tudor) kings and queens and she was one that came up a lot when searching for a good author :)
I'm so excited to hear more of your thoughts on Zenith! It's definitely been fun watching/ making reviews for it. I'm probably going to post my review this week, but it's a bit controversial so I'm a bit nervous. That edition of Hans Christian Anderson's fairytales was gorgeous also!
I tried out The Chaos of Standing Still based on one of your previous videos about it. Its not my usual genre but I absolutely loved it! I loved it so much I returned the librarys copy before I was finished and bought my own to add to my shelves. Lol
You should read Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies by Hillary Mantel. She's also a historian and the books follow Thomas Cromwell, advisor to Henry the eight.
If you're looking to get into Philippa Gregory then I would suggest trying her more favorited novels like The Other Boleyn Girl, The White Queen, or The Kingmaker's Daughter. She does have a very interesting writing style which can be off putting to some. She always tells her novels through one female character's perspective. I particularly liked this style in The Other Boleyn girl especially if you are into "Otherness" or the image of the female having to be in an angelic state and how that affects her mentally. One thing that is annoying about her writing is that since the viewpoint of the novel is only shown through one perspective, it means that there are multiple times where tells you what happens in the story rather than showing you what occurred through her writing. She especially does this with the male characters in scenes that would be gripping to read like battles that are occurring around the female characters, but instead of having the characters live through those moments, we just get a plot summary of what just occurred. She may not be for everybody but for the most part, I still enjoy her writing style!
Since you love historical fiction, did you try Hélène de Champlain by Nicole Fyfe-Martel? It's the story of Hélène Boullé who became Samuel de Champlain's wife. It's really good! It has a lot of romance tho, but it's still enjoyable!
Chapters is the best ❤️ and have you watched the TV series reign? My mom has been watching it, and it takes place around the time where Elizabeth I is queen...I think you might really like it :)
hey hailey have you ever read Anne and Henry? It's suppose to be a YA historical fiction of Anne Boleyln and King Henry's relationship but they as teens and it takes place in present time!
If you like English history and historical fiction you totally should read Susan Holloway Scott's books about Restoration England. She's such a good writer and made me fall in love with King Charles II :) I recommend starting with "The King's Favorite" it's about Nell Gwynn and Charles!
I also thought it was the Andromeda saga. It wasn't until you mentioned it that I saw I had read it wrong all those times! I'm wondering why you specifically mention the translator when talking about translated fiction? Just wondering because in my country it isn't specifically mentioned and I generally don't really care (and I get the idea most of the readers here in my country don't care because they don't mention it in hauls). In my country the first language isn't English so I thought maybe that has something to do with it? Also most fiction we read here is translated so maybe that has something to do with is as well. I'm just curious. Someone on here can shine light on that?
You don't have to. In the story it will be explained as the narrative moves forward, but it doesn't hurt to know some basics like who Henry VIII is and how he was such a corrupt monarch. He is actually quite fascinating to read about along with his wives. He was an ardent lover who was quick to anger especially if you crossed him or if he felt you didn't fit into how a woman should behave and he liked the spotlight. He liked the idea of ruling more than what it meant to be an actual ruler. He liked to view himself and his court as being a mirror image to Arthur and his Knights.
Hailey:*posts a new video*
Me:*go and buy all the books she mentioned*
Yep, same here 🤚🏽

I feel like every time I watch one of your videos I add five books to my wish list 😂

The Juniper Tree is my favourite Grimm's tale. I read them all last summer. I hope you enjoy it.

I just got a copy of Hazel Wood!!! I’m so excited to read it!
I am reading The Hazel Wood right now! It was a random Amazon find. It is a little slow, but so far I am loving it. It kind of reminds me of a modern day Into The Woods.
I have an arc of the hazel wood as well but I still need to get around to reading it (hopefully before february ends!!)
If you like the Tudor phase, you could check out the tv series “reign”. It’s about Queen Mary of Scotland (and Queen Elizabeth). Its really addictive🌝
Love that show!

Do you need to know the history before you read the series about the 6wives?
