This is emi (m-e) creator of the "original" map highertower. This brings back memories haha. Sorry for stealing your meme thunder! I was indeed partially inspired by that orange map and your long maps. I dropped out of playing tf2 for many years and only recently came back to the game with some friends around that time. I played hightower for the first time and became aware of the weird culture surrounding the map, trying to complete the objective got you kicked and was mostly a deathmatch map. So logically I needed to make a map that punishes players for playing the objective. I've had many years of source engine experience so I quickly whipped highertower together in a few hours and the rest is history. I felt bad at the time for getting so much attention when I know how much effort goes into making a map. Even the other stuff I poured myself into for years is no where near as popular as highertower. I haven't touched the source engine in a long time but I do look back at my mapping days fondly. Thanks for kickstarting the silly map saga and making so many good tf2 videos whomobile!

Love a weird maps video before the end of the year! Also crazy since I never knew you made these long maps! I have always held your weird map series close to my heart, seeing the little secrets map makers put in their maps and you going into the history of maps. It's like seeing a part of someone's old childhood home. I'm glad you put a lot of effort into these videos, Whomobile, always bringing attention to lesser-known maps and crediting the map makers. Hi! I've been enjoying your "weird maps" series and they've really inspired me by showing me what *can* be made in tf2. However I've never released a map of my own. Your comments about back in 2017 resonated with me because i too was at college at the time and made me realise how like ago these maps were made and how long I've been playing tf2! I suppose my only regret in the time between then and now is the fact i never finished or even released a map. I thankfully still have all my files for every map I've started in Source so maybe one day I'll actually release a map but i do feel like the moment may have passed for the games popularity. Thank you for your content you make on UA-cam about source/ tf2. I'll admit I've never played your maps properly, only on Lazy Purples silly server. But enjoying maps that way i still think Is a valid way, and making a map that i think would be fun for that type of server has definitely been a push for me to :)
Like having to maneuver to the next set of pads as you slow down, having to keep speed or take the speed penalty of having to swim to the next boost pads That would be fun
13:58 I think that's the first time I've heard a song in 7/4 on a video. Is that a Final Fantasy song? I know at least one of the games had a composer who took inspiration from prog rock, namely Emerson, Lake & Palmer's _Tarkus_ , and this song sounds like it. Actually, the music selection in this video is probably one of my favorites. I've never heard any of these songs, but they itch my brain quite nicely. They also sound like video game music; what games are they from?
1:00 How do you mess up "kazotsky"? Maybe your tongue is of birds. I can empathize with that. So many companies are ruining your habitats, therefore lessening the ability for you to learn.

There was a certain pain watching you go over Long Turbine as Soldier. When other players aren’t around to throw a wrench in the works, covering that much ground is painful even as Scout, let alone anyone slower. Though, your extended maps aren’t the worst for that, you kinda made Long Turbine look reasonable, actually. Think the most agonizing map to walk through that I’ve played is OOT3D: having the whole OOT overworld ported to TF2 sounds awesome until you have to actually walk through it all.
I always always look forward to your source map videos 🖤 It's really a shame you didn't get more recognition for the stuff you made!! I definitely think in the modern landscape of "content", creators pick up and drop things so quick that there's little sense of community anymore. They see these things as fuel for the grinder instead of works of art in their own silly way. I guarantee you if someone made a vid of your map in 2009 there would be a download link and credit given in the description at the very least. Either way, I'm so thankful for what you do/have done. Your videos always feel so warm and nice. I hope to always look forward to the smile I get when I see a notification for a new vid from you:)

Just two silly ideas if you ever consider picking up TF2 mapping again: in the middle of long 2fort you could put 2 more forts perpendicular to the others, effectively making it 4fort but long on one axis; also one thing that always disappointed me with highertower is that the only part of the track that's heightened is the lift at the end, it might be fun to make the track elevate more naturally by adding trestle bridges directly on top of the normal track so the cart repeats its normal route multiple times, getting higher and higher.
source engine is quite good with portals, i wonder if you coul set up giant portals in long doublecross to make the non long parts feel normal..... would be trippy as hell too
