Hey Rajiv, I just wanted to let you know that I'm 31 and was suffering from severe depression and anxiety since age 16. I've overcome my childhood trauma(that I didn't even know existed before 2024.) Once I recently realized I had no positive role models, especially male role models in my life, I started to look and stumble upon your videos. They were a breath of fresh air, calm and joyful, educational, and just relaxing to experience. Your authenticity bursts through your videos. I know self doubt creeps in when creating or just simply living. If I can ease that for just a moment, allow me to.
Nowadays, I do what I want, when I want. Seems simple, but not easy to incorporate instantly. I wear my nice things regularly because they feel nice and make me feel good. I deserve to feel good because I deserve to be loved, and I love myself. It's that simple. I believe my first video I saw was you teaching me how to wash white laundry with bluing, when I was scrolling at 2am and lightly procrastinating sleep. I have never been so focused on a laundry video.
My biggest silly compliment is "You are so authentic, you can capture an audience's attention while speaking about LAUNDRY."
Thank you for the inspiration to live a happier and peaceful life. I didn't know I needed it! Keep doing you man. It speaks to people.

After watching some of your videos I have been thinking of things slightly differently. I found a lovely leaded crystal dish at my local Goodwill for $3.99. Now, instead of storing my makeup supplies in a cheap plastic box, I keep them in this beautiful crystal dish out on my countertop. It makes me smile every time I use it. I hear that lovely, magical tone of ringing when I put the lid on the dish. Ahhhhh...... I plan on replacing several everyday things in my home. I have learned this from you. Thanks for inspiring me.

That is so discouraging and tragic to hear. I hope life continues to 180 for you. I own very, very little. Long ago when I was a child, I began to get rid of things because of trauma. Things that I loved would gradually become sickening to me because of the horrible turns I was being dealt. And their involvement in pockets of time were like horrific mile markers for me. As a result, I have become someone who finds danger in prizing objects... in investing feelings in objects. It is a coping mechanism that I've developed, unfortunately. When, I saw your comment I wanted to immediately ask you if you learned anything or gained a different perspective about the importance placed on things? Did it alter you? Or are you the same? Thanks.

I maintained a storage unit--one first paid for by my company as part of my upkeep expenses and, afterwards, paid by me. I justified it because I went from a 4 bedroom house in the sprawling Midwest to a coastal city where I was living in tiny vintage bungalows of one bedroom. Housing is really hard to come by--I actually wanted 2 bedrooms--but you get what is available. So, I justified the expense of a storage unit by reasoning that it was less than getting a place with a second bedroom. I'm an avid estate saler, so I kept my 'treasures' in there, too. And swapped out my seasonal clothes. To anybody considering a storage unit, I suggest you choose the nicest, most high-end one with temperature control. It makes the experience of accessing the unit very pleasant and you'll want to go more often. After 10 years with the unit, though, I finally realized that I had spent over 10K. So, I ditched the unit and don't miss it!

There is something to this that should be considered in the whole decluttering movement. Yes, get rid of stuff you won't ever need and that you don't even like. But I find people are too eager to get rid of everything. It's huge trend in people moving abroad: "Just get rid of it and buy something from IKEA." 🙄 There's a whole cadre of retired expats whose houses look like dorm rooms. My belongings are not replaceable with cheap mass-produced items, for the most part. Many are things I've collected over 40+ years, and they have meaning. Most are vintage, antique, or handmade.
I downsized and moved to Mexico after a small recession-induced reversal of fortune. Then I moved back to the States and have a little more space now. I wish I hadn't sold or donated some of my nicer things, as I'd like to use them now. Same with some clothing and jewelry. I probably lean in the opposite direction of hanging onto too many things today (also a reflection of having to be extremely resourceful living outside the US). But I can do a lot of "use what you have" decorating, digging into my treasures when I want to rearrange a space. Fingers crossed I will have an even nicer place one day soon, and I can really go to town. 😂

@@willothewispl This gave me inspiration to reorganize my storage and create a better rotating system. I'm going to put in shelving like that when I have the time and money, hopefully this summer or in the fall. I used to have a storage unit for my job. When the company was bought out, they told me to leave all the shelving in the unit. Oh, how I wish I had kept it...

Wow! I had a pickup truck for many years and have seen many, many storage lockers of friends. While a few were organized, none could have been said to be “curated”! You’ve inspired me to change how I see/think about my own downstairs storage locker behind my parking space… to curate it, not stuff it with junk I’ll deal with someday. That certainly would make it more useful. Thanks.

This is the fine tuning I was supposed to see. For some months now I’ve been sifting through 30 years of things I’ve accumulated, that my children accumulated too. I’ve donated, gifted, thrown out and only kept the truly special momentoes. It’s been a process. Still more to do. I love donating, it’s addictive. I even had two skips come to take away garden rubbish. This place is finally getting the love it deserves.

I was arranging my bookshelves the other day and didn't realize it at the time that I had passed from death to life. From chore to play. My bookshelf the canvas of imagination. The child of me resurrected and came out my fingers and danced on the shelves, making beauty. The mind recalled a previous video of yours (or perhaps a few) and my spirit anticipated this one. Its not about 'work vs. leisure,' because both can be either choreful or playful. Thank you for giving us all permission to play.

I like how you always emphasize the importance of buying items of quality. It is so tempting to buy quick and inexpensive options on the front end. That mindset quickly backfires when rebuying the same thing over and over increases the cost over time.
