Rajiv: Confidence is the most attractive quality. Who cares what you look like? Also Rajiv: WHY aren't people wearing three piece suits on planes anymore?!?!😭 Love this channel so much 🥰
@@rickyloftin2968 yeah because lip balm nail lippers and tweezers are definitely the same size as a huge plasti bottle of shampoo. and you have to worry about those things leaking
My husband and I always "dress" when we travel. If someone complains that a suit isn't comfortable, maybe it doesn't fit them correctly. Wouldn't the world be a little nicer and more polite if we all took just a little bit of effort? Keep going, Rajiv!
As an over-packer who works really hard to take as little as possible, you've encouraged me to pack even less, I'm flying to Barcelona in a week's time, so I'm going to implement some of these tips. It might not be perfect the first time around but I'll definitely give it a go.
Ohhhh I love Barcelona. It's my favorite large city. If you can, make sure you visit Figueres and the Dali Museum. Even the outside of the building is interesting.
This man is masculine elegance personified, really like these videos. As someone whose traveled across the Atlantic quite a bit, I follow the same principle of dressing well and wearing the heavy stuff. For packing but also you are more likely to find supportive airline staff to help in difficult situations if you dress well. It's stupid and I wish it wasn't like this but it is unfortunately. I dress very casually normally but when I travel I look incredible, nails, hairs, make up, etc. The amount of times I've skated by paying for luggage or got upgraded to better seats speak for themselves. I couldn't recommend it more.
I do the same coz i know a few cabin crew who say they’re usually more attentive to well dressed people, the only problem is you’re more likely to get searched at the security check because you’re clean and not straight from the beach smelly and if you look too expensive they think you’ve got a lot of money and might be a drug dealer 😂
@@TayWoode I pretty much always wear a suit and often a burberry trench when flying and I am very rarely if ever given any extra inspection. I used to get "random explosives residue" searched quite often but that was when I was less well dressed when flying.
@@Macca-95 maybe you smell that’s why they leave you alone Haha I’m just kidding, I did ask one if I had a suspicious look that always gets me searched and they said they usually search one in ten, so I’d be best going straight after someone who has been searched 🤷🏾♂️
After a few years of considering the Wool& 100 Days Dress challenge, I finally committed this spring. I wore the same black lightweight merino wool sheath dress with various accessories, dressed up or down for 100 days straight, and it was truly life altering. During this time I took two, week long business trips. Besides undergarments, a nightgown, I only packed 3 other pieces of clothing, and a small bar of handmade wool wash for spot cleaning or laundry in the hotel. The temperature regulating and odor resistant properties of natural wool means that at the end of the day, you can hang your garment and let it air out overnight, and it’s good to go the next day, no funky dirty laundry or B.O. smell at all. Unless I spilled something on myself, as I am known to do, I only washed my dress once a week. No decisions about what to wear, completely comfortable, no worries about how my outfit looks and able to get fully dressed in literally under 2 minutes has made mornings so much easier. Since completing the challenge, I have purchased 2 other items from Wool& to round out my capsule wardrobe and could not be happier!
Merino wool is truly a magical fabric. When I travel in winter, I bring these lightweight Bella Freud merino sweaters with me. They’re cute on their own, but also function as an insulating base layer. You can wear Merino over and over again-no smell! Expensive, but the best money I’ve ever spent. I bought one second hand, and some of them were gifts. Merino is especially convenient as a college student. It keeps me from freezing in the dorms.
Hey, after reading this comment when the video came out, I was researching this all night. My husband was paying attention and I got a dress for Christmas! I'm so impressed and excited to give it a try! Thank you!
There's only 1 thing I would add to the bag - 2nd pair of shoes! It's important to let shoes, especially leather ones, to rest for at least a day between wears. I also had shoes break when traveling and that's not an item I want to be shopping for in stress and rush. A beautiful and inspiring video as always! ❤
Yes!!! I learned my lesson on a trip to Mexico City. I live in CA, so I never think of rain! When i twll the rain in mexico is REAL 😂 I got soaked and had to wear the same miserable shoes 😅 I think I ended up buying a pair there. Anyway, I always carry 1 extra pair and flip flops... I never shower in a strangers shower or hotel room without my flip-flops 🙃
@@adrianamartinez8092 oh nooooo! You've had to learn the hard way XD But good point about the flip-flops, they don't take much space. And make a good combination with the already packed swimming suit, right? ;)
I couldn't agree more! Four years ago, before travelling to Portugal, I patiently looked for a pair of slippers that I could take along. Then I came across a Japanese company that makes reusable, washable slippers; it seemed like a good idea. I bought one pair of wool-like slippers, and when I wore them, they were reservable! The second pair was bamboo with a bit of plastic on the undersoles, I guess to prevent slipping. And a couple of handkerchiefs. They are both very light and easy to pack. The name of the company is Kolo House Shoes. 😊
I am an Army Brat and was raised in the “You Pack It, You Carry It “ school of travel! We became experts at going light as kids. Just stopped by the Tumi store …YIKES! $150.00 for the just in case nylon bag. My budget is not that fancy. Will improvise.
@@ang5798”it’s a number”… lol. Not when you’re on a budget. I agree with investing in high quality items, but not everything has to be nice. I’ve had a cheap bag that’s about the same as the tumi one for like fifteen years that’s totally fine. It probably cost $10 at target when I got it in middle school lol. Invest in heavily used things like shoes or a mattress, and always make sure to care for the things you already have anyway, pricey or not.
I'm a flight attendant, and this video is such a game changer. I'm going to start packing like this. And if you're ever on one of my flights I need you to sign my copy of your memoir! I've been reading it on this last flight and when I looked up, the passenger in front of me was watching Mean Girls and your face flashed across the screen. I thought that was so funny. I hope I can meet you one day! ❤
Wait, you have a book!! Going on my Xmas list for sure. I’m binge watching your videos again.. I discover something new each time. ❤a huge fan from Washington ❤
As an Australian who has family in England…for over 24 hours on planes in travel each way I definitely prioritise comfort over style but try to find outfits that still look chic.
Yeah, NZ here and I recently had a trip to a slightly out-of-the-way part Europe that each way was about 35 hours (had to go via North America rather than Asia so it all took longer) - but over the years I've found some combinations of things that look pretty good but still feel okay for sleeping in.
I feel the same way about traveling from LA to The Middle East with stops in Europe. I always travel with just a carry on but there is no way I would dress up to get on a plane, not even traveling first or business class! Leggings and comfy sweaters and either Uggs or sneakers!!! Not sitting all dressed up in lounges and on the plane! I love Rajiv but i draw the line when it comes to being properly dressed for the plane!
I like packing cubes. I started using them a couple of years ago. When you get to your hotel you only need to take the packing cube out of the luggage and put it straight into a drawer. I would also suggest, if visiting the UK, is to bring a fold up, lightweight, waterproof jacket (with a hood). When you are in the UK, if you don't want to buy an extra sweater or whatever, every town has a number of charity shops/ goodwill. You can pick up anything for a couple of pounds.
I'm quite proud because I followed a lot of these tips intuitively on my week long trip to Italy recently. I managed with an overcoat, a light jacket, 3 pairs of shoes, 3 pajamas, 5 tops, 3 bottoms, 2 swimsuits and 1 dress (plus undies and socks). Only needed to carry an overnight duffel bag and a large tote (which I packed all of my toiletries, accessories and two extra purses in). Maybe a bit more than Rajiv, but I'm a lady and I need options 💅. Highly recommend washing clothes in the hotel sink. In lieu of laundry detergent I just used the hotel shampoo 🤷🏾♀️😂.
I have done the same. Either I have used the hotel's shower bar or the shampoo, or I go to the nearest pharmacy and buy small paper detergent sheets to wash stuff with. Last time I was at the airport someone was hustled away to a holding room. Later all of us passengers were searched for any liquids and we were told that anything metal sharp or liquids weren't allowed for public safety. How does Rajiv go through security with the metal tweezers or the nail clips? I don't know. But it makes sense that anything you can't carry, you can buy as soon as you land such as toiletries, hygienic items, etc.
He'll yah we had to dress up whenever traveling. Even dressed up for the movies, the theatre, Banking, church. It was a sign of respect and it made the event all the more special.
I live in Indiana but I have a daughter who lives in Melbourne, Australia. And “yes” I remember when we dresses up to go on a plane. This was so educational. Thank you, Rajiv😊
I don't know if Rajiv reads his comments but I am very frightened. He has accomplished something you don't find very often in our global culture - Authenticity. His words appear to match his actions. When he speaks of how he wants to live and what brings him joy, you can watch his catalogue of videos and see he is 100% serious. There was a time when people were allowed/encouraged to see the world, pursue the arts, and embrace other cultures. Sadly, his type of 'journey in life' has become rare and many undervalue these opportunities. It usually takes a lifetime of joy and pain to reach this 'state of mind' yet, he has done so at a relatively young age. There is a saying, 'Your past does not define your future, but it certainly helps shape it'. Rajiv seeks out the past to inform his future and shares it with his audience. I know of many people who have ventured from other places to find success on either coast of the USA. Some have flourished but many have been consumed by the struggle. I'll be waiting patiently for his autobiography as his journey to solace will be a 'must-read-story'. Thank you R.S.
Rajiv, you are a gentleman and a man of distinction. I went to Morocco this summer for almost 2 weeks and packed a backpack and carryon with art supplies in it. If I had found an art supply store there, I would have just taken the backpack. Packing light eases the mind. Traveling is stressful enough. I had a cousin who shipped her stuff to my grandma’s house for Thanksgiving ahead of time. So she travelled with nothing essentially. If you factor in all the checked back age fees it’s genius! And saves one’s back. She is the master of light packing. Also, I just knew you were gonna pack laundry detergent! Did you make the detergent and put bluing in it for your shirts?
@@leamubiu He does NOT mention the detergent he uses. He mentions to use, "Mrs. Stewart's Bluing" agent which you add diluted to the wash machine (you can add it to the fabric softner compartment). I uses a yellow detergent bottle, which makes me think its Sunlight detergent. I wouldn't attempt bluing while traveling: the risk of staining a sink or tub, or even the dye itself leaking is to be a risk. And you wouldn't add bluing to detergent. That said, laundry strips exist and are far lighter than liquid detergent.
@@yeeaahhzz Indeed, my memory needed refreshing ^^ I've rewatched the video since, and you're quite correct. I will not gamble on the brand of the actual detergent, since I am thoroughly ignorant of what is sold in the US-we don't even have Mrs Stewart's bluing liquid or Bar Keeper's Friend here... Your advice about bluing while traveling seems sound. If he's put bluing in that bottle, it must be pretty diluted already. But he did say in his Washing Whites video that he did not use bluing while on travel, and that the clothes he takes on travels are noticeably less of a crisp white than his other garments. Laundry strips are so convenient! I also pack a few, they take no space, and are great for cotton and polyester; but I usually bring a bottle of silk-and-wool detergent, since I often wear silk tops against my skin, and cashmere sweaters.
My sister used to go on holiday with 3 cotton dresses, 3 pairs of underwear, and a spare pair of cloth shoes with a teeny bit of makeup. It all fitted into a little square cross body bag. I had a ginormous suitcase with 700 pairs of knickers in it!
I am watching this after 8 days in Italy (yes I am at the airport going back to US). I do pack light (no checked bag) but this is a whole new level ! Love that you take pride in your appearance. I too try to dress well when traveling. If one’s nicer clothes are deemed uncomfortable, the are not the correct size or cut for you. Great video!
I’m the worst packer so this is eye opening. It never occurred to me to take laundry detergent. I use Earthbreeze sheets so that would be easy to pack. Thanks!!!
You put a smile on my face when you said-people don’t dress to travel anymore. When I was younger the theatre, a “fancy” restaurant, church, going downtown to shop , even going to work meant dressing in appropriate clothing- something out of the ordinary. I miss that.
A common refrain I hear as I watch UA-cam fashion videos is praise for the comfort of garments. With the exception of shape-wear, all of my clothes are comfortable. If clothing is uncomfortable maybe selecting a size larger would alleviate the problem. As a woman I would find it impossible to spend a week abroad with only a single valise and a purse. For starters, shoes. They take up so much space but you must have at least four pairs of previously worn shoes. Sturdy well fitting walking shoes that won’t give you blusters or corns, athletic shoes (aka sneakers, gym shoes, trainers), black leather pointed toe pumps with a heel height no taller than 2 1/2 inches for dressier night time events and beach flip-flops for pool side or bedroom slippers. So that you don’t appear to be in a perpetual state of mourning, don’t just pack black and white clothing. Pack several multi-colored scarves and a cashmere pashmina to be draped over your traveling outfit to guard against a chilly plane. Bring 3 pairs of pants: black, white and jeans; all should be high waisted with elastic waistbands. You need jewelry. Leave your expensive treasures at home and buy good fake diamonds, pearls and simple gold and silver necklaces. For electronics devices you must download Netflix, Britbox, Audible and e-books for your tablet. Remember to bring headphones, cables and portable chargers. I also like to bring an extension cord/surge protector with USB outlets. Hotel rooms never have enough outlets.
Agree with you 100% Rajiv!! I too do laundry while traveling. It’s so worth it to wash out things overnight than to carry a heavy bag. I learned this after a friend took a tumble going up a Paris airport elevator, lost control of her large suitcase and running into me on the way down! Neither of us were hurt badly, thankfully, after a Good Samaritan at the bottom hit the STOP button. But it was the last time either of us took anything but a small roller bag on a trip. Freedom!!!
If this was the standard add quality on YT nobody would be buying premium or using add blockers. I hope TUMI gave you a fat check for this video because this is the best add I have ever seen in my life. I am not even in the marking for luggage but this is making me reconsider. Bravo.
Yesssssss Rajiv omg people need to dress up on a plane!!!! It would make people feel so much better to dress up - even going to the grocery store! Love that you take pride in what u do
I am also a master packer. There’s definitely an art to it. In the words of Lonestar: take only what you need to survive. I remember the time when people dressed up for the plane; that’s how it was when I was growing up.
I love watching your calming videos and how you constantly give useful, practical advice, because many people just haven't learned so many little life skills. I've been a life long traveler and have my own system (6 weeks in Europe or Latin America, etc with a small carry-on capable) Tumi yes! I'm partial to the laptop backpack myself because no matter how loaded it is, it is easy for 5'3" me to carry comfortably. Travel size toiletries rule for us women who need more than you do :) Laundry soap yes, but I take it in bar form--one less liquid to deal with. A skinny little stretchy line to dry stuff on (some come with built in loops so no clips needed). Hair dryers are usually found in hotel rooms and can help dry undies and tops quickly. I also always use featherweight packing cubes to keep things organized and compressed, and if going from place to place, make it easy to unpack and pack up quickly. One doubles as a dirty clothes bag (fold the clothes flat so it doesn't "expand" in your bag!) Keep those wonderful videos coming, please!
When I see a Rajiv Surendra video I often want to dive right it, but if watching Rajiv has taught me anything … it’s to do things in a way that makes them worthwhile and enjoyable and beautiful… so I wait. I wait until I have peace, quiet, and comfort. I wait till I’m sitting with my coffee. Or sitting with my cat. Then I start Rajiv’s video. They become moments of relaxation and I can remember them. I remember watching them all.
I used to have to fly internationally frequently early in my career (24 hrs door to door). I took my wrinkle free dressy travel clothes and planned to launder my clothes as needed while on the road using a small bottle of camp soap (a little goes a long way). On the plane, I always changed into something to sleep in to keep my outfit wrinkle free and fresh. I would bring travel sized toiletries for in-transit and necessary medications (and copies of my prescriptions in case of travel delays).
I love this so much. I always dread traveling because I end up stressed, looking like the groundhog, worried about luggage getting lost or stolen. These tips definitely make me look forward to elevating, simplifying, and enjoying the process - really, privilege - of traveling. (I also think a lot of people are going to be getting attention from their airport crushes after watching this!)
I prefer my army surplus backpack for travel as I've had duffle straps give out on me one too many times mid-trip. But I completely agree with the concept of carry on traveling, it's just so savvy! And the idea of having a just in case bag for any larger souvenirs is pure genius!
There was a time when quality, pride, and care of detail stood above in one's work and product. I am totally emerging in the way this young man presents all of this for us to enjoy. We are the change makers.
My sister in laws use Rinowa, and told me to get one. I told them that I've had my Tumi for over 20 years, and it's still in great condition. But this past summer, we took a trip to Japan, and international airlines have a different carry-on spec than American airlines, so I thought maybe I should get a Rinowa. After checking out their prices, I decided to get another Tumi which can be up to 1/2 price with sales. And I rolled that luggage through 5 cities paved with cobblestones and it's held up wonderfully!
1. I love Tumi. I've been using Tumi since the early 80's for travelling, and, I still have my original Tumi backpack. And yes, I travel a LOT!! 2. Do you only take the shoes that you wear on the plane? 3. I'd just taken a sip of coffee when you said (in that funny accent), "you don't want your pits smelling like an old cheese sandwich...", I spewed my coffee all over my clothes and keyboard. So I had to change my clothes and mop up my computer. Gee thanks Rajiv. LOL. 😆
So cool seeing this ..When I was a young pottery student and traveling the UK I only brought layers and a few extras for not staying in hotels (meaning a small tent and sleeping bag ..Also to make money ; a banjo. The banjo helped with hitch hiking :) I remember leaving London with 30 pounds sterling and coming back months later with 120 :) .I did learn the hard way to travel light ..Because I made wire jewery at home I came to Wales withe an anvil in my backpack ..:) (You can ship things home as well if you need to :)
I would literally watch this wonderful man do anything. He is such a source of light. I am an expert traveler myself but, as usual, I still learned from his thoughtful approach. I am also a Tumi fan. Have had the same carry on case from them for years. Time to get a new one even though quite pricey. They hold up better than anything else out there.
Peru for 3 weeks in a small backpack, including Cusco, hiking Machu Picchu, Huyana Picchu, 0°C hiking Rainbow Mountain, Michelin dinners and visiting friends in Lima, +40C in the Amazon, and beach time. Had an identical bottle of detergent, and only bought jewelry to keep to one bag. It was the best time ❤
Your penmanship it’s to die for, I remember we took such pride when we were in school doing a penmanship. For some of us it Used still now. Love your videos.
I can remember when everyone dressed up when flying and my husband still does! And I found that the green laundry strips are fabulous when traveling. I just love when you get goofy and sing or recite a poem!
I don’t travel often, so I can’t say I’ve perfected the process of packing light, not having had many opportunities to make the attempt. I have however gone on two trips since making up my mind to become a light packer, and let me tell you… the satisfaction. The ease of unpacking in less than five minutes. The lack of back and arm pain. The benefits are real, and I would never go back. Love your tip about wearing your best outfit on the plane. That’s one I will definitely be implementing next time. Thank you as ever, sir.
You have all the style in the world, Mr Surendra. You rock your capsule wardrobe from suit to swimmies. Your bangles are beautiful too - please talk about those in a video.
What a wonderful video. I travel alot too. Just this year, I started traveling light. I see I have some work to do. I was at a Halloween party last week & met a girl who met you at a trivia night. I was excited about that. Your way of teaching is calming. Thank you.
I’m all in for looking dressed and nice when flying. I was in management for a large corporation for decades. It was mandatory that both men and women wore a suit when flying. Looking good is such a positive reflection.
I've just done a road trip from Perth, WA to Brisbane, Qld to stay with my Mum for two months. Carry on luggage for my clothes and the only thing I did different was fold everything Mari Kondo style in the bag. It is so much easier to pick out my outfit each day without having to unpack layers. I did also take a suitcase for my craft stuff but - you know - priorities and I had a whole car worth of space to myself!
I am a big fan of YOU and packing light. My husband and I have matching Patagonia climbing backpacks we use for travel all the time. He is an Eagle Scout and helped me consolidate and choose smart luggage, I’m a changed woman! Currently using that same bag to pack our “go bag” to the hospital for our first baby (which will inevitably change our life and require more bags)
I’m a light packer also. Glad you’re spreading the gospel. I’ve done mostly jungle travel in remote places, so I require more toiletries: first aid kit, portable clothing line for drying laundry, bar form of laundry soap, bug stuff. What do you use as an EDC for your wallet, passport, glasses, etc.
I definitely a light packer, yet I still seem to bring more than I need! This is so timely as I am going on a trip tomorrow. FYI I figured you would have packed some walking crisp white sneakers for the walk to the beach or sandals etc. That is the only thing I felt that may have been missing. LOVED every minute of this... particularly the singing and the modeling at the end! 💖
I bring my beach shoes, dressy shoes, hiking shoes & my suitcase weighs a ton 😂. Wonder if beach shoes would be one of those things Rajiv might purchase at his destination? The possibility of the beach was already in question.
As a man I can appreciate how good taste you have in everything you do and everything you wear. I’m South European man living in North Europe and working in IT company. If you complain about people wearing pyjamas in the plane you should come to this place and see people coming to the office.
hey rajiv, I watch your yt videos with my girlfriend. we are always just in awe with your choices in life and the way you chose to experience things. she makes funny jokes of how I am just like you in so many ways, the minimalism and maximalism at the same time in wardrobe vs decor. your channel gives us not only nice tips but nice times and laughs. thanks for being, from iasmim and mariana. Salvador-BA, Brasil.
I just discovered your channel! What a treasure you are! I am binge watching all of your videos. I'm so happy that you have your channel. You have inspired me. I could see you having your own coffee table book!
Yep, you got all the essentials down! Thank you for the uncomplicated packing tutorial and the reassurance that we all can do this. Happy and safe travels! 😊
I love my TUMI bag. I bought accesories that clip in to handle all wires and bits, and always put the same type of things in the same pockets. I love taking my bag out now as it feels organised, which means less stress.
Love this! I travel a lot, and just recently shifted to using a bag similar to yours (which I love.) The biggest challenge (maybe more for women?) - SHOES! But, it can still work. Also, great idea to bring laundry detergent. I've been using laundry sheets - even easier to pack!
I just saw an ad for shoes that one can change the heels to. I'm not convinced about them, but that would be an amazing product to travel with. I LOVE shoes, and always bring too many pairs!
Traveling to a cold place AND having multiple “events” requiring very different types of attire and “stuff” AND being a woman: I will need two TUMIs. Or three.
I feel like I'd love to be an influencer if only to show off the brands I've really loved and used the way you have! Sharing the knowledge and experience is so valuable. I love that you're using this sponsorship as a mass word-of-mouth moment!
Also, on the topic of washing. When I travel, I like to make sure to get a place with a washing Maschine. Airbnb is often cheaper, and that’s a really great feature. If you are staying in hotels, most big cities have laundromats, just do your washing and drying for 40-60 min while you sit in a café across the street, or walk around this part of town. Just set a timer for the Maschine, so you get back in time :) I recently went to weekend wedding, after being away from home, and could wash my clothes at the accommodation we were at, and head straight to work after, with washed clothes. :) (in a pinch : a small amount of dish soap can be used as laundry detergent)
This was right on. Well done Rajiv. I hate hate hate to overpack. I take a laundry bar, a shampoo bar and keep the junk to a bare minimum. I wear hiking boots and heavier stuff on the plane and wear thin layers out in the world. I also take a micro fibre towel for multiple uses. A carry on is plenty big enough. ❤
I love that you reminded me to PACK LIGHT just before my trip to Italy/Switzerland! It’s so easy to get carried away with the wardrobe ideas that I forget I have to drag it around town with me! The “Just in Case” is brilliant and Tumi is one of the best luggage makers out there. BTW I adore the fabric of your swimsuit! I wound love a shirt in it….any hints as to where it is made? (Nice legs, too!)
I have so many questions! How do you keep your whites white when you're sweating in them and painting on grimy streets? What do you do about paint stains? Do you wear your boots to the way to the pool? What do you carry your daily supplies in once you're there? I studied abroad in Florence and everything I wore took such a beating that it was all completely trashed by the time I got back.
I’ve had my Tumi luggage for over six years and every piece still looks brand new. It’s beautiful, practical, and durable. My Tumi luggage makes me so happy! It’s my travel friend. And, yes! I love my Just In Case Tote!
You are brilliant! I’m a female so a little more difficult but you have given me incentive and encouragement to pack a lot smarter and lighter for my upcoming trip to London and Ireland! Ty , love love you!
Great video! I just took a trip to Greece and I packed very lightly and it was wonderful. I did laundry there but I didn't bring my own detergent. I didn't think of it. Thanks Rajiv.
Great tips. Unfotunately the "wear it on the plane" tip only really works if you're staying in one place for your entire trip (as I've learned the hard way) - otherwise, you end up wearing that suit on every bus/train/car trip because it doesn't fit in your luggage. Same issue with the "buy it when you're there" tip, unless you're going to buy things multiple times.
Guess it all depends on how and where people travel - I'm usually on the move every 2-3 days, often using modes of transport where formal or heavier attire is impractical.
Something about your presentation and calming personality that make your topics a joy to watch! Love this topic. So easy to pack light, but we take our whole dresser of stuff, like we are going to wear everything! I end up cutting my list down and still find I don't wear half of what i brought. I love your advice that if we need it, we'll buy it, as we love to buy some new stuff anyway. Thanks for sharing!
My travel style is minimalist chic. When I travel business class I change into Vuori sweatpants and a comfy top to settle in and get a good night’s sleep. When I wake up I change back, freshen up, and feel amazing.
I have packed a week’s worth of Spanish art class clothes in a well-worn leather backpack. For 3 weeks in Paris, 1 small carryon will do. It includes a packed bag for the Paris Fashion Week fashions acquired there. Big fan of washing and wearing while traveling. Hate the responsibility of a big bag and the never-used stuff thrown in “ just in case.”
I stumbled onto one of your video's in my feed and became enthralled...It was a video of how to deep clean your home and I fell in love with your bedroom which you were cleaning to prepare for the new summer coverlet your friend had just made for you, what cinched the deal was you had a painting of my dog (see profile pic) which I later learned (in the next video I watched) you had painted! Anyway, I just had to visit your most recent post to say what an inspiration you are! Just to see what people can accomplish if the motivation is there and they put their mind to it is amazing! Thank you for sharing your life, joy and talent! NOW...on to binging! ❤
Perfect timing!!! Just in time for my departure tomorrow. This inspires me. It’s so helpful to see and hear the nuts and bolts of your simplified processes. Thank you! Every time I hear you say “Lou-ee-ville” I hear my Louisville-raised friend say “say it like you’ve got a mouth full of marbles. Lou-uh-vul.” But King Lou-ee…. Namesake…is indeed the correct pronunciation for Louisville.
I also bring a great scarf that is right for the season. In the summer it doubles as a wrap around skirt too/cover up. In winter just a great Cashmire scarf. I also ship my purchases home if for the home and pad them with my laundry and replace items easily as I like to shop and then I wear the new fashion the rest of the trip. I only bring a carry on no matter where I go as lost luggage is dreadful.
I think it’s an American thing to live in sweat pants and yoga pants. 15 years ago my daughter went to do a year abroad at an American HS and was shocked how the kids dressed fo school. In France at that time, most kids would dress up for school….but I see things changing now. Europe has become Americanized in that sense. I’m all for dressing for comfort, but you can still look great and feel comfy.
As a Portuguese-born and raised, today I live in the States with my fiance. I still cannot fanthom the thought of wearing pyjamas to the market, to the museum or even to a school, let alone into someone's church or the temple we attend to each month. Imagine the disrespect! If you are invited out to a nice museum or to someone's home. Would you wear your yoga pants and a long baggy top with no bra underneath? People have no self-respect or shame; or respect towards others. Personally, I cannot wear my night's pyjamas out for the world to see me, without showering, without deodorant. Night's gown is for sleepng, day's clothes is to wear around your home for comfort, same day's clothes with a wool or cotton sweater like the one Rajiv showed us, just throw on and nice low-heels, light perfume and makeup, and you're off to shop for food or meet up friends. These are just my thoughts, to each their own preference. ✌😎
I love Rajev’s videos. They are so soothing. The only question, or should I say two questions/comments I have are: 1. Why doesn’t he also buy laundry detergent same as he recommends with shampoo (unless it’s a special detergent) 2. For me personally carrying such model of a bag would be heavy. I prefer a backpack. But yes, agree that tumi is very stylish.
You are so right Rajiv. I look through my parents old photos. They always looked so well 'turned out' and even we ,as children did .😊 Thanks for these useful tips. Definitely agree with the detergent
Shoutout to my Away rolling luggage; it has been dragged across many a European cobblestone and is still going strong. About the “why don’t people dress up on planes anymore?” thing…I counter with “why aren’t airplanes spaciously designed anymore?” Plane travel is inherently uncomfortable enough these days with small seats, minimal legroom, etc. So if wearing some athleisure or pajamas makes that more bearable, I say go for it. You can always freshen up once the plane lands.
Omg, your imitation of a rollie suitcase over cobblestones was spot on and hilarious! I'm glad you shared a glimpse of your water colors! If you are going to Europe, there are great clothing deals at vintage shops and flea markets. Plus you end up looking more European!
"If I don't look as good as I usually look, then I just put on a smile." There's a whole seminar in that sentence.
Only one pair of shoes??
Rajiv: Confidence is the most attractive quality. Who cares what you look like?
Also Rajiv: WHY aren't people wearing three piece suits on planes anymore?!?!😭
Love this channel so much 🥰
Don't take shampoo but do take lip balm, qtips, nail clippers, laundry powder and tweezers. Even though you shouldn't care how you look, of course.
Haha exactly. Also what transatlantic flight is 6 hours? I guess maybe NY to London. But not anywhere in the western US to mid-europe.
I know the nuances of life are hard. Adjust!
Confidence means absolutely nothing if you dress like a slob in public!
Can we take a moment to appreciate the penmanship 🤩
As an over-packer who works really hard to take as little as possible, you've encouraged me to pack even less, I'm flying to Barcelona in a week's time, so I'm going to implement some of these tips. It might not be perfect the first time around but I'll definitely give it a go.
Ohhhh I love Barcelona. It's my favorite large city. If you can, make sure you visit Figueres and the Dali Museum. Even the outside of the building is interesting.
Barcelona is my favorite as well!! The food is incredible :) Enjoy!!!!
Barcelona is the best!
@@EnfinLibreNM I know of them! I actually used to live in Girona as a teen so I mostly visit to catch up with friends once a year if I can! :)
I'm an over packer and STILL leave things behind. Lol. I traveled around the UK with an iron in my backpack.
@@Macca-95 maybe you smell that’s why they leave you alone
Haha I’m just kidding, I did ask one if I had a suspicious look that always gets me searched and they said they usually search one in ten, so I’d be best going straight after someone who has been searched 🤷🏾♂️
Totally experienced the same treatment when I wear my suit coat and slacks! Such a difference and yes...kinda sad..
@@mittensisnotacat6161 I agree. It maybe more of an upfront investment, but you get so much more use out of the pieces!
Really impressed by this. I love to sew my own clothes and am not sure I could live with the lack of colour and variety but I really love the idea.
Where can I find information about this challenge?
Yes. Another pair of shoes.
@@adrianamartinez8092 oh nooooo! You've had to learn the hard way XD But good point about the flip-flops, they don't take much space. And make a good combination with the already packed swimming suit, right? ;)
i agree. a nice pair of sandals, esp. to wear with the shorts would be perfect!
It's a number. But investment in travel bags is worth it if you see yourself traveling at all. $150 will be worth it on the 3rd trip already
eBay!
That price is excellent and it will last. Always think of cost per wear. If you get a cheap one you’ll replace it more than once! ❤
@@Becky0494 nobody says you have to get it, no need to get riled up :)
Awww, thanks for reading my book!
Did do it just with carry-on, though, so there's that. Haven't had to deal with a baggage carousel or misdirected suitcase in years :)
I know right, he's going "you can put up with it for 6-7 hrs", Im like 6-7 hrs is a domestic trip!! try 20+ hrs!
Yes after overpacking and stressing, I’m sleeping the whole way. Just wake me for the meals thanx.
Comfy clothes!
"If I don't look as good as I usually look I just put on a smile." I'm stealing that. I love it!
Yay!!! So glad to read this!
Watch his video on washing whites, I don’t remember the brand of this blue detergent but he mentions it :)
Thanks!!!
Good point. I was also thinking of the earth breeze sheets {dry sheets}, no one would have to worry about them spilling in their luggage.
I use Blue Water. I really do like the sheets and think that they are great. Great invention!
I use the hotel shampoo to wash clothes
You put a smile on my face when you said-people don’t dress to travel anymore. When I was younger the theatre, a “fancy” restaurant, church, going downtown to shop , even going to work meant dressing in appropriate clothing- something out of the ordinary. I miss that.
Bring it back!!
I always dress!
Bravo.
Oh Rajiv I think you are probably one of the only people who could pack so little and look so well.
Good for you 👍
Yesssssss Rajiv omg people need to dress up on a plane!!!!
Thanks for watching!
It could be possible to said shape for the bag 💼. Sorry for my bad English, I’m from Mexico 🇲🇽
When I see a Rajiv Surendra video I often want to dive right it, but if watching Rajiv has taught me anything … it’s to do things in a way that makes them worthwhile and enjoyable and beautiful…
so I wait.
I was looking for something to watch while having my coffee, the timing couldn't be any more perfect. Cheers!
LOL. 😆
This summer I spent 10 days in the UK with just a 15” backpack and it was so worth it just from the reactions of my friends I was visiting.
Rajiv is like the parent I never had
Where has this channel been all my life? The calligraphy content is also awesome. Great tips. Excellent stuff.
I can remember when everyone dressed up when flying and my husband still does! And I found that the green laundry strips are fabulous when traveling. I just love when you get goofy and sing or recite a poem!
As someone who just came back from a trip and realized I definitely overpacked, this is a timely video. The blazer/suit on the plane is genius.
Thank you.
Fresh hair don’t care, laundry detergent, minimalism with high-end taste!! I love it!! 🤩
Rajiv looks damn good in that tweed suit 🔥I’m inspired
My first hubby had a tweed 3 piece suit only gray. He died in 1989 i donated it. I wouldve given it to rajid. Hes adorable❤
Hearing Rajiv say “damn boy! You look fine!” Made me audibly chuckle. Thank you for valuable and charming content, as usual!!
Rajiv, you are a true Gem! Something about your energy feeds my soul 😌 I’m a bit in love with the art of packing, so this video is so comforting ❤❤❤
I really like that you’re the one asking brands to sponsor your videos and not the other way around 😊
Can't wait until your baby travels with you. Complete joy!
The way of your packing reflects your philosophy of life. I already look forward to your next video.
hey rajiv,
I watch your yt videos with my girlfriend. we are always just in awe with your choices in life and the way you chose to experience things.
she makes funny jokes of how I am just like you in so many ways, the minimalism and maximalism at the same time in wardrobe vs decor.
your channel gives us not only nice tips but nice times and laughs.
thanks for being,

THANK YOU!!
you are so smart and although I usually pack light, you schooled me today....and a fashion show to end! I love this so much!
Thanks for watching!
I love my TUMI bag. I bought accesories that clip in to handle all wires and bits, and always put the same type of things in the same pockets. I love taking my bag out now as it feels organised, which means less stress.
Happy Saturday, Rajiv! I hope your day is full of the things and people you love. Thank you for adding something beautiful (and useful!) to mine.
I agree with everything! I would add folding hangers and plastic coated metal clothespins for hanging up my laundry. And laundry sheets, not liquid.
Or three.
Love how you're reminding people that short term discomfort is nothing compared to inconvenience during travel.
For a week or so trip-I use contact lens cases for things like makeup remover-or special creams-
Thank you for your thoughtful videos,🥰
I feel like I'd love to be an influencer if only to show off the brands I've really loved and used the way you have! Sharing the knowledge and experience is so valuable. I love that you're using this sponsorship as a mass word-of-mouth moment!
Also, on the topic of washing. When I travel, I like to make sure to get a place with a washing Maschine. Airbnb is often cheaper, and that’s a really great feature. If you are staying in hotels, most big cities have laundromats, just do your washing and drying for 40-60 min while you sit in a café across the street, or walk around this part of town. Just set a timer for the Maschine, so you get back in time :)
I recently went to weekend wedding, after being away from home, and could wash my clothes at the accommodation we were at, and head straight to work after, with washed clothes.
I ❤ you, Rajiv. This advice for packing is truly wisdom for life in general. It transcends traveling completely.
I wear the suit on every car/train/bus trip.
Gosh! Rajiv! You're SO enjoyable to watch! Just doing "life".... I absolutely love it ❤
Best sponsored video ive ever seen. So classy!
I absolutely love that you got a sponsor as big as Tumi! Congrats on all the UA-cam success Rajiv ❤️Love your videos!
I enjoy Rajiv's videos, but I also enjoy packing videos... Ohh, Rajiv doing a packing video 😍
“If you can’t look good, just put on a smile.” Love this!
The only question, or should I say two questions/comments I have are:
1. Why doesn’t he also buy laundry detergent same as he recommends with shampoo (unless it’s a special detergent)
Best comment yet ❤
Ahh! Of course! You literally cover all the topics related to being the best human being possible. Once again, bravo!
I loved the video and the great tips. I have always carried a "just in case" tote. It even fits in my purse when folded. Thanks Rajiv!
if only you had released this a week earlier. I just flew to New York and NEEDED this.
Love love love your videos! You are a ray of sunshine, Rajiv! Thank you!
Good reminder for the detergent. I am so glad you talked about the unglamorous side of washing stuff! Keeping it real always. Thanks so much Rajiv
