Great video, just did mine today, and it doesn't look bad at all, it took me all day just to do the stairs hahah but couldn't of did it without this video, love your videos, you're a good bunch of lads. thanks you.
I am an old lady but still like to do DIY job around the house, I have watched your videos many times and yet I have not got around to do it myself. But will have a go, thank you for your clear explanation. you lot are so funny and yet so professional. Love it 🤪🤪🤪
@@homeimprovements Hi again, may I ask if the upstairs landing carpet and underlay cover the top first step of the stairs where the riser and tread meet where the grippers are. (not sure how to explain, hope you understand what I am trying to ask), if possible give me the link showing carpeting the landing with the top step of the stairs please.
Hi Guys! Great Video!!! I've got a question though. Don't we need gripper at each side of stairs? In some videos I saw people are putting grippers vertically on raisers in addition to horizontal ones. Thanks for advice!
I'm desperate to change the carpet in my hallway when I redecorate due to colour change and you've given me the confidence to give it a go. Thanks lads
Sorry question already, how do you do the top step, do you over hang a bit from landing?? Probably sounds like a silly question but makes sense in my head 😂
Good video. I recommend a rubber hammer for hitting the carpet into the gripper gap, saves a lot of muscle ache. Also may have been useful to talk about pile direction.
Nice to see you doing the job without smashing it in with hammer . They say start bottom and go upwards , although in 50 years I have never done this or any other fitter ever. Great job guys 👍
We used to live in the South East, and any stair carpet we had fitted, was always folded round, and fixed under each step. We moved to the Midlands, and fell out with the carpet fitters, because they hadn't fitted the carpet the way we were used to. Having had them back, to do it our way, they agreed that it looked better. Any thoughts?
You got a subscriber out of me lads, appreciate it. Right laugh watching you guys have a giggle whilst getting a channel going😂👌🏽 Keep it up and thanks for the tips
I'd go with a little step nosing, if you have laminate on the landing and carpet on the steps. Z-bar would be fine if it carpet on the landing laminate on the steps.
Nope grippers vary in quality but there pretty much set and will work across all carpets as they are only designed to hold the backing not the pile 😊👍🏼
You didn’t mention some important factors. Firstly that gripper has to be fitted in the correct way as the metal spikes are pointing in a particular direction. Sec9ndly the carpet pile has a direction and this must be laid correctly And lastly you need to talk about winders and half landings too.
This is the second of your carpet videos that I've watched and you guys are jokes. love it. 🙌In the previous (box room) carpet laying video, you mentioned pile of the carpet on the stairs? Which way would you recommend and how can you tell the direction of the pile if it's kinda short and doesn't move around too much. Does that mean it doesn't matter about direction too much? Thanks again! x
@@homeimprovements forgot to mention that I found it straight after 🤭🤦 thanks for sharing all the info. makes me feel like even *I* can do it (not sure that's a good thing! 😊)
I have taken every smoke detector down in my house because of the beep in this video. I was going to call the doctor. Thought I'd developed a new tinnitus. Every time I come to watch the video, it beeped. I have sat with every detector in the house on my shoulder, couldn't weigh up how they beeped without batteries. It's taken half an hour to suss this 😂 Grand video by the way 👍
Never heard pile direction mentioned, didn't crimp the sides over, helps to stop it scratching fresh paint on the risers and helps the risers sit better without creasing. When you put it over the nose you didn't crease it first before chiselling it in.
I had a guy do my stairs, and he cut rectangles for the underlay so it was a small piece on each step, rather than going over the step. Also, I can feel the grippers through the carpet. Well annoyed. 4 year old daughter has cut her feet on the pins many times. Grr.
Those stair are going to be so loose. Need to start bottom set on pins kick tread to rise set and continue up. Never wrinkle or loosen up . Your welcome
Why would you work down? And not up? Shoot the bottom of the stair, then stretch the step then set and shoot. Rinse and repeat! Faster and more efficient being how you can’t stretch down.
Please stop posting diy videos. on carpet fitting you don't understand how many wasted trip I've done trying to fix jobs from people saying my husband watched a video and tried to fit the carpet. Turn up to carpet being cut or chewed miles to short I know I'm good but I'm not a magician
Language please sir A professional should know grippers are set depending on the carpet being installed there is no one set spacing , we set these to accommodate the carpet being installed Thanks for your comment 👍🏼
Cool these are not “basement” stairs hector it’s a staircase leading to the first floor , exerting or making sure the job was completed to the highest standard 🤷🏼♂️ anyway that’s your opinion and you have every right to it 👍🏼

Brilliant video. Could you do a video on how to use left over carpet rolls to fit in an area where afew joints are required please?

The landing covers the top riser then you start the stairs 😁😁
So no grippers on the treads sideways along the stringer? what are you tucking the sides into?
Off to attempt this tomorrow. Wish me luck 😂 defo found this to be the most concise video not having any stair carpet fitting at all. Thanks!
Good luck 😁👏🏼👏🏼
@julia lavender. Let us know how it goes
@@tylerfursland2710 Nearly done! Thanks for the brilliant video, I think I'd have cut the carpet too short without it 😅

Comes down to area and what’s done this is common in Essex but we have done the other style a few times when requested
Thanks guys, that was extremely helpful. All the best 🙂
No problem thanks for taking the time to comment 😊😊😊
is the underlay 7mm or 12mm?
What about nose on step how's that put into shape?
I watched this vid and manage to lay my stair carpet. Thanks 😊
Glad we could help 😊😊😊😊👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Can you tell me where I can get those ore screwdrivers I fit bottom up but can’t find them

Done this but my carpet is bubbled up.
Any ideas on how to stop it bubbling?
May need more stretch 😊
@@homeimprovements thanks chicken nugget.
Can you use 10mm underlay on a landing to lay a tartan carpet
Yep 😊
So you don't use the kicker when you're laying top of the stairs down?
Nope bolster puts enough tension 👌🏼👌🏼
had no carpet on stairs for like 2 years, the grips remain, my feet ... hurt alot o.O will a long edge bolster do?
Sure just be careful if it’s sharp otherwise your split the carpet 😊
Thank you guys 👍

any suggestions on how to transition from laminate flooring to carpet on the stairs (at the top of the stairs)?
Z bar works great if it’s set back 30/40mm 😊👌🏼👌🏼
I'd go with a little step nosing, if you have laminate on the landing and carpet on the steps. Z-bar would be fine if it carpet on the landing laminate on the steps.
Great video. How do you calculate the correct pin size on the rods?
Usually the pins are pre set in gripper . We always recommend 15-20mm ringshanks thanks for the comment 😊
@@homeimprovements But wont you use grippers with different sized pins depending upon how thick the carpet is?
Nope grippers vary in quality but there pretty much set and will work across all carpets as they are only designed to hold the backing not the pile 😊👍🏼
@@BODGE71 there's only 2 lengths, short pin or standard pin grippers

You don’t tend to fold sides over unless it’s an open ended stair
What's he done? Drawn his hair on with a marker?
Basically
Why don’t you put tackstrip on the edges? In acouple months those stairs going to have wrinkles.I know cause I fix carpet installers work.
Put your underlay down before cutting the gripper over the laminate in the lounge just saying😜
Appreciate the advice 😊
You don't show gripper on the sides , but when fitting carpet it's there. ??
Brad u keep teaching people to do their own job we'll all be out of a job lol

@@homeimprovements is Cosi a good underlay fir stairs? I'd like one with good soundproofing.

Not "perfectly acceptable", far from it. Nifty pad measure and cut trick...if you need a straight edge on 3' 😆
