- 2017 Ford Ranger Wildtrak 4x4 @ Green Range Track Mt Cole, VIC | 4WDTRIP
On this day i follow 3 Patrols and a Land Cruiser (All well set up and highly modified) to re-visit a track i did the day before but this time taking the harder line to the right.
After failing to get my front right wheel to drive up the rock face so i could straddle it, i ended up taking the more impressive to watch approach with a nice wheel lift, lack of traction and a few more attempts than usual to get there.
I will link the full version here when finished:
• Ford Ranger Wheeling w...
Mods include:
2" Lift ( Ironman Foam Cell Pro)
33" Dick Cepek Extreme Country MT
17" Fuel Beast wheels
Rhino Evolution Bar
Uneek4x4 Rock Sliders
ARB Frontier Tank
TJM Snorkel
Bushskinz Underbody Protection
It always looks easier from the outside. I think you did bloody well. Big set of 🎱🎱
The differentials are the Achilles heel of this truck. Lockers would have solved a majority of the hang ups.
Caleb Cowan there is rear diff lock only as standard which was activated. Most of the other vehicles on this trip were twin locked with bigger wheels.
Thanks for watching and comments 👍
rear differential lock doesn't help much if you don't have transfer lock as well , as you can see in some parts of the video, thanks for sharing
OSCAR ROLDAN I would love to add a front diff lock to this car one day which should make a big difference when trying to get the front wheels up and over things.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Antonio deCarmoducci lol. Okay guy. Haven't used your locker? Go on a harder trail. Lockers don't affect maneuverability unless you're trying to romp and cut through something. Bring your rig to the Rubicon and see how far you make it without lockers. Well, you could winch the whole thing.
Caleb Cowan have to agree without my rear locker I would not be able to do a lot of the more difficult stuff as easily.
For 99% of the time the traction control does a good enough job but there’s been plenty off occasions where the TC did not cut it and the rear diff lock makes all the difference.
If i had a front locker I doubt I would use it as much as I don’t do stuff this difficult to often but having it would be nice for when I do need it. Would mean less crash and bash for sure.
(Bumper falls off)
"Keep going, your alright your alright"
That spotter would be better used as a traction aid.
Classic!
This is why I LOVE this car!!!
Esta camioneta es la mejor en todo terreno, suave, confortable y Robusta.Ford Ranger es un toro
I have owned a few fords, a 1976 bronco all done out and a modified 1993f-250 with a 4” lift.. this ranger has a great rear bumper and great skid plates that most likely are functional, rock sliders... although it needs 2 selectable lockers.
Vince Fairleigh your not wrong there. Or a bit more momentum as well. Thanks for watching 👍
Did pretty good with the one diff lock. Pretty rough and slippery terrain. Camera doesn't show how steep the cilmb is very well. A lot of other vehicles wouldn't have made it anywhere near that far with only one locker. Well done👍
Chris Cilia cheers mate. It was definitely wet and muddy out there
Ulan Türkiye'de bilinmiyor arabanın kıymeti. Gerçi kimse alamıyor ki kolay kolay.
Very very good. Perfect pick-up
Kutsal Öztürk thanks for the feedback. 👍
Wow! I wouldn't want to treat my truck that way !!! Anyway, can anyone say " built FORD tough " !!!
Damn that's an awesome track, bloody nice driving! Ranger performs very well
chris blatherwick, Thanks :)
I got a bt50 same engine 5cyl tow a 3 tonne boat easy engine is a beast
True
One person saying keep going, another saying stop! I would knock one of them out 😠
Yeah it’s hard to see what’s going on around your vehicle in that position. I think in that moment they wanted to take pics of my car with the wheel lift.
Was very hard to get going again after that.
Cheers for watching and commenting.
Experts a plenty
This comment too funny!
The person who is saying stop must be the owner of truck.
คิว
That noob spotter telling you to stop ruined your momentum.
Connor Nichol, thank you for your comments. Your correct in the fact that I needed the momentum to get through that. There's a back story I left edited out. All the vehicles stopped in that position for pictures. I wasn't to concerned with posing myself and was just listening to the loudest voice and when your on your side like that and you here stop you stop lol.
If I was to do it again I believe I would be able to get up that in one go. Unfortunately I wasn't able to climb up from that position like the other vehicles as I had the smallest tyres and lacked the front locker the other vehicles had.
Thanks for watching👍
If you are testing your car, you don't mind stopping, going back and trying again differently, that's the whole idea
Why wont Ford offer a front locker? as an option?
Ford Ranger rocks! We have one, we also us it for some offroding movies, and it is really good car!
4x4, but no lockers + bad line = 😢... All fun in off-roading though! That's a clean looking ranger for sure.
Awesome car, awesome video. Thanks for sharing.
T Yik thanks for watching. 👍
Hi sorry but what tub platform and rack bars u running on your tub? I have a wildtrax as well been looking for platforms for my tub without removing my sail
Nice vehicle. Will perform much better with front lockers. Best offroad investment I made. I can go places with 32's and a two inch lift my mates can't get with 35's and a 6inch lift(showpony special)
madrx2 agree about the Front Lockers. Maybe one day in the future 👍. Thanks for watching
Love the drive! Great tempo and control. Just bought a Wildtrak and had a couple of gear questions.
1. One of your videos says you had Dobinsons 2" suspension and this one says Ironman Foam cell pro - Just wondering which you would recommend or if you could start again would you go with a different brand altogether eg EFS or pay more for FOX etc?
2. Are those just EGR fender flares? and did you struggle getting a snorkel to fit around them?
Cool ride man, wanting to buy the raptor purely for the suspension but its so expensive...
Seeing what you can do with the leaf springs it seems i don't need a Raptor version for this kind of off roading...
Did you do a Canberra to Goulburn trip a week ago by chance with a stop at Goulbourn MacDonalds. Got this strange feeling I seen this Ranger in the car park. Sunday 16th Sept?
Wow, that thing has the flex of an ice cub ...
Matt Thew yeah I have flex envy 😂
It would be nice if all trucks came with selectable locking diffs. It would be well worth the extra cost.
Good job. And without front lockers.
The traction control system on the ranger is quite bad. It’s not able to transfer enough torque to the front wheel with grip to get the vehicle moving. It requires a lot of right foot and a lot of wheel spin before it does anything useful. I’m stark contrast, the hilix’s A-Trac is way better. Hurts me to say it but it’s absolutely miles better than the TC system on the ranger. PS: I’m a ford guy and the TC on the Hilux might be the reason I get the new hilux as my next truck
Vishnu R the TC does tent to struggle a bit and allows a lot of wheel spin before it kicks in and when it does it only seems to send a little bit of torque to the other side. Can’t speak for the Hilux though.
Most of the time the TC does a good enough job. Cheers for watching 👍
Looks like y'all need a locking rear diff.
Hello Michael, what sizes of rims and tires were on the truck ?
I just realised the rugged. Ford built tough.
Are you happy with those iron man foam cell suspension on ranger??
Tough track, awesome effort to get up that
benjamin howe , thanks for the comments. Was definitely challenging with the rock steps and still being greasy from all the previous rain. And negotiating that rut between the rocks while not damaging the car was a challenge in itself lol.
I’m sure it has to have the same electronic locking rear diff type of set up that the F-150 has?? You would think Ford would have put the option of a locking front diff as well, especially if they want to compete against Jeep Rubicon’s.
Inverted 311 , it has rear diff lock as standard but front diff lock is not a option. There is a aftermarket Eaton locker available for the Ranger by Harrop, here in Aus, which is something I plan to install in the future.
I don't think it's fair to compare the Jeep and Ford together as they completely different vehicles. The Ford ranger would compete against other medium sized pick ups and are predominately used as a work or touring vehicle. The Jeep Rubicon has a smaller wheel base and would be more limited in use but alot better off road. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Michael Toomer When reading about what Ford says they want to compete against in the states it specifically talks about Jeeps, and trying to put a dent in their sales... With the Ranger and the Bronco that is being re- released. I actually sold Fords, Lincolns and Mazda. Had access to the private sites ford has to give their employees tests and what not... I knew it like the back of my hand when it comes to specs and what the company is planning with marketing specifics.
Cool truck, they are just about released now in the states.
I laughed too when I read they wanted to go after Jeep’s with IFS and no front locker...
Yeah I saw pics of the US version ranger in social media. A few cosmetic differences but pretty similar. Not sure why Ford would Market it as competition because they don’t do that over here. It’s pretty much still considered pick up style truck used a lot by tradies. Again it’s a different vehicle for a different market. Have a great day
Michael Toomer You too bro, thanks for taking the time to chat.
Nice ute. Question re the climb... it didn't look like the BTC was doing much on the front axle? What settings did you have it in, and did it feel like the front was fully open?
Richard Barrington the Front BTC always struggles on climbs. Iv watched the front BTC work on other Rangers and my own and it seems to kick in late and when it does it applies some brake to the spinning wheel thus sending some torque to the other wheel. It never seems to fully lock the spinning wheel and the other wheel doesn’t get enough torque. On flatter terrain it performs ok. In this video I have it in 4L with rear diff lock engaged and front BTC still engaged and “should” be working. Hope that helps and thanks for watching 😃
Cheers Michael. That helps.

Nice car I am like this ford raptor now... I will buy this only
How did the rim on the front right pull up? Looked like it smacked the rock twice, such a dreadful sound 😨😨,
Again, another great video mate
NAPHUKIT the rim got a lot of rock rash but then all my rims do.
I'm running 9" rims which are not ideal for a 285 tyre width. They stick out to far and hit rocks to easily.
I will be changing my wheels to a 16x8 soon and Il be running them with 305/70r17 tyres so that should protect my rims better and give me a better footprint also. Glad you enjoyed
What type of uhf do you use Michael toomer
What tyre size where you running?
Gorgeous truck
You guys in Victoria?
My heart almost jump out from my chest. Great 👍 skill.
Pusak Digital thanks I'm glad you liked it. It wasn't my best performance but I'm happy to get through it in the end.
I was doing some research and wanting to buy a Ford Ranger 2.2L XLT. It seems Ranger is pretty good all rounder.
Pusak Digital for a modern IFS vehicle the Ranger is a good pick out of the other crop of dual cab Ute's/pick up style trucks. It's pretty capable and looks the goods in my opinion.
If you have the 3.2L I would probably go with that over the 2.2. It's a pretty heavy car and by the time you start adding to it even the 3.2 starts to feel sluggish.
Was it automatic or manual
No diff locker?
Traction control is not ideal for this kind of off roading
What’s the platform and rack specs over the tray? Does the mountain top roller still work as normal?
Rob Alcock it is a Rhinorack pioneer platform 1228 x 952mm mounted with Rhinorack Vortex bars
(www.rhinorack.com.au/products/roof/roof-racks/vortex/vortex-rlt600-black-2-bar-roof-rack_ja6218)
I actually used a bar one size down so it has minimal overhang.
The kit in that link mounts directly to the rollershutter tracks and yes you can use the rollershutter normally.
Hope that helps!
Can you advise me of the correct specs of the carrier and also purchase price please. I have been advised that the roller shutter mounts don’t allow for more than 30kgs which makes it unsafe to carry a wheel. Any info on the setup and where you can buy would be greatly appreciated.
Peter Aquilina other than the platform which is linked in the post above here is the link to the roof racks I used.
www.rhinorack.com.au/products/roof/roof-racks/vortex/vortex-rlt600-black-2-bar-roof-rack_ja6218
I swapped the vortex bars however for the next size down as I didn't want overhang.
It will cost approx $520 for the platform and nearly $400 for the vortex kit. And that's not including accessories like eye bolt kits, shovel mount etc etc.
In regards to the load rating the roller shutter tracks are rated to carry 25kg officially by Ford.
I have beefed up the support system by adding box tube supports and angle inside the tub to help support the additional weight.
Rob Alcock is there any chance you could send us some pics of the reinforcements you have made inside the tub please. Regards Pete 1957buick@gmail.com
I thought this truck was suppose to come with lock diffs front and rear ? Or am I mistaken
Louie Serrano comes with Rear diff lock only as standard .
Michael Toomer then I was lied too haha
Caraca show aqui andamos mais no barro! Amazônia Brasil
It's not the truck.its the driver he stops all the time! You need to keep momentum
Serious badassery
The older rangers were better for terrain like that. More frame flex in the old rangers gave it better articulation.
Nice one man 👍
LROR Land Rovers Thanks, A front locker would have made a big difference I think. Couldn’t quite get the right wheel to drive up the rock so I could straddle the rut. Might be my next upgrade!
ford ranger 💪🏻
The ranger isn’t available in the states yet😑
Nice nice you could always let the tyres down some more and replace with more aggressive MT
vevohoeyo , I’m running 18 psi on these which is as low as il go with this wheel/tyre combo. The rim is to wide for this tyre. In fact just a bit further up I actually roll the tyre of the rim altogether and had to replace it with the spare. More aggressive tyre is noiser on the road. For now this is what I have and when I’m up for new tyres il see what else is out there. Thanks for the feedback👍
Michael Toomer yeah obviously depends what your doing most of .. but there's some good MT tyres that are good on road as well.
vevohoeyo the tyres I'm running now are exactly that. Mud tyres designed to be good at both. Next time I will go up slightly in size which will help. Especially for stepping over rocks. I'm liking the new Yokohoma Geolander G003 for my next set.
Michael Toomer I'm looking for another set myself I'll check them out
Michael Toomer bit of advice Yokohama are dead set shit ... if you want a great off road mt km2 bfg nitto trail grapplers mtz mickeys and your fine geaolanders mate you may as well stay at home trust me I go in vic high country all year round and those mt above and you will get mileage with good pressures and rotation and travel this whole country .. little bit help take it or gl
Happy New Year Mike. Upgrading your vehicle some more this year?
Lcr34 cheers mate. This year I’m going to change the tyres and get something a bit more aggressive in a 295/70r17 size. A front locker and maybe a roof LED bar. Also replace my sump guard with a different one that doesn’t hang as low. I seem to be hitting the ground a lot more with this one that I installed recently.
Nice nice cant wait to see it in action. I see Harrop have the e-locker under 2k. If you want LED headlamp conversion as well as roof LED you can look at STEDI.
Tha Rangers are so Awesome.....Look's👌style👌 Bad ass Appeal to Most👌 Just need to sort out a V8 or maybe a Barra Motor package 🤔😁
Love this mann
A little throttle fixes everything
Haben die keinen finden können der auch fahren kann?
What is the wheel of your car?
I mean size.
Nutty JY it is a 285/70r17 tyre on a -12 offset. Cheers for watching
Michael Toomer Thank you sir.. :)
Hey mate would 32s make much of a less of a difference?
Front locker. Would of been so much easier
seaskoot 1 this is true! Thanks for watching
Nice vid. Looks like you had fun!
No need to feel 😭 for the truck. Ford designers and engineers knew they were going to be used this way and so built them with that in mind. This is their natural habitat not on tarmac 🤷
Nice ford ranger
Should have spent the snorkel money on something actually useful like locking diffs.
Bob Catt , the snorkel is useful for all the river crossings here in Victoria. Car is not complete yet. Going to add a front diff lock and bigger tyres in the new year. 👍
You seriously cross moving water that's over your hood?
Bob Catt the air intake for the Ford Ranger is right behind the right headlight. When any bullbar is fitted the stock plastic bumper is cut below the grill which makes it easier for water to get in so the 800mm wading depth is compromised. I’ve been through a few crossings and bog holes with water up to and over the headlights. So I would say it’s great insurance and definitely worth it :).
Also the snorkel was one of the cheapest accessories.
Over the headlights? That's higher than the door handles. Possibly have a link to any pics of that?
Bob Catt I don’t have any links to my own car but I think this video shows what I mean when I say that the water doesn’t have to be as high as the door handles to clear the bonnet when you first enter the water. Also as you forge through you create a bow wave up the front so the water is actually higher at the front then at the sides and rear. Only need a bit of water go through the engine to destroy it. It’s not that uncommon to for a river to rise dramatically overnight if there is a lot of rain dumped in the area or upstream. I’ve heard plenty of stories around the campfire lol
ua-cam.com/video/LhvJ35aUG4E/v-deo.html
You know we have highways now right!?😋
Highways aren't fun though 😂
@@vanderz1012 😄👍
Needs lock diff option
It's got a rear diff lock
@@dallasmellsop5488 not good enough. Needs front diff locks and a transfer case lock also
@@sameuljones5496 I agree
Amazing how the armchair experts are attracted to these videos.
When you're about to spend $40,000..
Amazing how the armchair experts think they can do better 😂😂
What a beast
Thanks mate!
Standard truck or parts fitted??
sherman4970 , a lot of what you see are aftermarket. It has a 2” lift, 33” Tyres, front bar, rear bar, sliders, snorkel just to name a few. Otherwise engine, drivetrain and exhaust all original.
are those mud terrain tires? cause if not, you could climb that place easily, its not that rough climb
E A , they are muddies. The terrain was very slippery and steeper and more technical than looks in the video.
Also my momentum was lost when I stopped at the point of wheel lift.
If I was to do it again I would forget about trying to straddle the rut from the beginning and just hit it again with steady momentum from the bottom.
Thanks for your feedback and I appreciate your comment.
needs a front locker
That Ranger is pure porn.
Is there somewhere a link to its modifications?
balalunga1 thanks mate. No link to modifications but in other videos I list most of my mods in the description. Thanks for watching
Good machine with a funny drivee
Wainaina Ngugi thanks mate glad you enjoyed it👍
My #mahindathar would have walked through there ek se :-)
Sistema bruto!
Don't scratch the paint.... Its a loaner...
The K&N snorkel kit is $570. The ARB kit is $520. A Detroit Locker is $500. But the real point is whatever money was spent on the snorkel would have been better spent towards locking the diffs first. A locker is more useful than a snorkel. Don't believe me then go post that question on Pirate4x4 forums. The flaming you'd receive would be hilarious and really make my evening Antonio.
I understand Sir Dave. I am just saying that in any place i can think of (even Australia) that lockers are more often useful vs a snorkel. That is saying that on average i believe (even in Australia) you will more often encounter situations where low traction is a problem than you will situations where you need to get in water higher than the air filter and that when making a list of upgrades that front and rear lockers should both be above snorkel on said list. That's not true there?
Dave P can't you guys get ARB there for that price? They're made there. I can get half ton axle ARBs here for $940 delivered to my porch.
Use the road por hway
Superb ...ranger
Truck ok. Driver ok. Skill ok. One thing...the tyre not ok.
NO LOCK?
Wrong tire
Jungles are much tougher and muddier than forests

Nice car for trip
большая часть наших водителей дорогих внедорожников туда бы не поехали, они предпочли бы в городе по бардюрам прыгать.
Why don't you use your winch?
Forget the off roading, anyone see that person trip over nothing at 3:23 😂😂😂
daniel geddes you have a keen eye. Thanks for watching 👍
Super car. The best
Just have to sent it some times !!!

Lock the diferencial next time...
I don't wanna jeopardize this video..but AWD is AWD...4X4 is 4X4..
Hanibal Uriarte Ford Ranger is a 4x4. NOT a AWD. Thanks
