The problem with the current attacks is that they do not seem to target the servers directly but rather a node in front of SE's servers if that makes sense. I haven't had any issues with DCs apart from my shitty German internet going down every now and then. This seems to be true for a lot of other players as well. Some constantly DC and suffer a lot from the DDoS while others are completely unaffected.
I don't know if I'm lucky or not but on Primal Lamia connecting from New-Brunswick I haven't had any disconnection issues from these DDoS attacks, same from a friend playing on the same server from Texas.
As of right now I use a VPN to help mitigate the attacks. Seems to work fine. The problem I have during the DDoS attacks is that my friends all lose connection and that is really annoying. But that is what this is. Annoying. My hope is that the people doing this get caught and thrown in jail. The more they do it, the higher chance of them getting caught by law enforcement but until then I guess we just have to deal.
It's Square Enix's business partner NTT that is getting attacked. It may not even be XIV that is specifically getting targeted! If you have a VPN that allows for regional selection, route yourself to avoid whatever node has a high ping or is dropping packets. (Canada works.) You can determine your current route by pinging the NA data center lobby (e.g. Primal, Crystal, etc) from the ARR status website using tracert on a windows command prompt, and seeing which of the NTT nodes your route is linking to. The NTT San Jose one is the one that historically has issues. It will be where the ping jumps up from 80 ms to 200 ms or just drops packets entirely during a tracert.

I've been very upset. I take care of my grandfather who has dementia so I have to budget properly. So when I buy a product I expect it to actually function. I decided to upgrade to the full version of the game 4 days ago and haven't been able to play once in that time! I asked SE if they'd be adding those lost days back to my sub time and they basically told me to eat s*** so I contacted PSN to try and refund and they basically told me the same thing. So now I'm out 60.00 and was treated like trash. It literally feels like SE just stole my money. 🤬 I realize it's not "completely" their fault but it's not my fault either! So why are we the customers the ones who are paying the price for this...
Ok 4 days. You can play next week bro. It is an MMO. no one gets angry over a few days with an MMO knowing you will be playing it all year. No reason to be pissed. Annoyed? Sure. You see it is DDoSing you swap to another game in your backlog for the night. Not a huge deal. Live service games can come under attack by competitors. It happens. Even FPS games like Fortnight deal with this crap from time to time (their servers are far easier to mess up too). I get you are disappointed but never expect any live service game to function like a static single player game. You take care of your grandfather. Rest of us have jobs, pets, families, and ALSO have to budget accordingly. It is what it is.
@@Nempo13 What's with such an aggressive response? He paid for a product that doesn't work and wants to get a refund because of the poor experience. That's perfectly reasonable.
I play from India on NA and currently chipping away at savage Due to me playing generally during times when people are waking up or going to bed when a DDOS happens it's insanely aggravating, wait for 2 hours for pf to fill, load in, I have to not only account for my own high ping but also now have to worry about other people's internet problems as well I wake up at 6am to get some prog in before work, finally team fill at 7 then have to disband because half the team has gone poof I've lost steam and I'm just progging m4s slowly for the sake of completion than the fun I had in the earlier fights I had in the tier
DDOS issues in FF14 have been pretty consistent since the launch of DT almost every single day after the server restriction thing was put in place. This has led to the increase of DDOS issues to try to open servers. I do however also think it is possible that it could not be malicious attacks but the way the restriction thing works: Aether as example is congested 20/7 almost constantly but people from other DCs can get in and be in during the little open window, while aether residents have access all the time. I believe it could be possible aether is hitting its congestion point and then far beyond what its able to handle with the new restrictions that may be causing server issues. Or it could just be people pissed about the restrictions. Either way sucks and hope SE fixes it.
Theres nothing a company can do to stop ddosers. You can block IPs but if they're semi competent, they use dynamic IPs and VPNs. All they can do is appeal to ISPs to block traffic from one kf tbeir users but if the ISP refuses or doss nothing they can do. Its not like the movies. They cant just type away at a keyboard and resolve it.
I haven't experienced it this week on Crystal or Dynamis but I have seen people complaining about it in NN so it apparently has been happening quite a bit. This is just one of those things that is a reality and SE needs to find a way to do deal with it that is more effective long term. They can never eliminate it entirely but they can do more I believe.
I question the validity of it actually being a DDoS. SE has had a history with issues like these where they say it is something, just for users to find out it is an if statement in their queue logic kicking people. This constant issue smells like an issue on their end. (Personally I am suspicious of data center travel.)
I find data center travel is also highly likely the reason why so many people cannot make characters. For some reasont he visitors are being counted against the number of allowed characters.
I play on Materia and have had issues. I get kicked at least once most days. Wont stop me though. It has been frustrating at times but I have learnt to only que in dungeons from inn room as it helps me log back in faster.
Not suffered a single disconnect in the last week and even before that I was only getting disconnected on the Xbox version, which is due more to glitches than DDOS attacks.
I got a DDos attack but it didn't make me leave the game since I'm a live streamer even then I feel bad for most people that do have that issue. FF14 is a great game I played at least 1875 hours on FF14... I an't going to stop there since I made 4 characters that will be heading into shadow bringers or dawntrail. and my gosh I work so hard to get to that point stop playing would queue of my leaves level for crafting... better get it while it's hot I'm selling scholar or summoner weapons for 5k in my server keep an eye out for that for alchemy crafting. Dynamiss Cuchulainn.
I've been lucky I guess, because I've yet to be disconnected throughout all of this. Half the time, I have to ask an FC member if there's a DDoS attack occurring. That said, I did see it happening when running PotD with randoms for my ShB relic weapon
I will say this years has had a lot more ddos attacks compared to the last 4 years i have been playing like since February their seems to be a ddos at least once a week and then the past 2 weeks loke at least 2 ddos's a day, so i would say its been worse then it has in the past
Sony and MS found ways to stop it, so can Square. FF14 is there biggest non-mobile cash cow and they'd be foolish to say "Uuh nothing we can do!" like the fans that defend them. If there was no way, every online game would be unplayable like this.
Honestly I haven't had the worst experience with DDOS in this game, however when it did happen to me I decided to take a week away just because I didn't want to deal with it
Is this on one specific platform or during certain activities only? I came back to FF14 about 2 weeks ago and play daily and have never gotten dc’d or kicked yet. EDIT - and just to clarify I’m no trying to be that jerk guy who’s like “durr this isn’t happening lol” I hate when people do that I totally believe you I’m just genuinely asking cuz I’m about to do another month sub and I won’t if this becomes widespread
You can say WoW has them. And yes they do. But WoW only has it for one or two days and then it stops a while. FF14 has completely failed to prevent them or not even trying. It has been going on for 6 months. How the hell does it happen for so long? Let's not forget how Yoshi P boasted they were ready. They have failed as a company. We should not have to deal with DDoS Attacks for so damn long. And if you want to take into account of EU ones, it has been nearly 10 months.
There are a lot of factors that play into this. Dawnfail and its lazy narrative and content was a big deal. The usual suspects still exist too. People unhappy about rules or philosphies they consider harmful ( i.e you really can't talk anymore or you get outnumbered and brigaded, even if its just an explanation of a mechanic, not worth typing and going to jail. Just as one example) I for one hope they shift their priorities after the negative reception. First time since pre meteor I am unsubbing for a while, if not forever. To some degree I feel empathy for the dosers, and understand why they are essentially protesting.
I think what adds to the frustration is that people have been providing lots of feedback around MSQ for 6.x and 7.0, but all they heard from SE about it was quite worrying for the future. On the top of that, other games released expansions around the same time while providing more content on release, and in FF we're immediately facing a content drought without even getting the first major patch, which is worrying. It all piles up with DDOS attacks, as people have to pay money to even login, and frustrations get increased.
Sonicrida: FFXIV is getting DDoS'ed like crazy, its unbearable! meanwhile me in Kujata Elemental DC (sipping tea quitely): hm say what now? i never noticed. in fact i dont remember a time i got dc'ed from the game for reasons other than inactivity since i came to the JP servers years ago. maybe, and i'm just guessing here, its probably because of the community backlash against a certain character in Dawntrail, so now the "consultant firm" (if you can call it that after their "burn the gaming industry" tirade very recently) is thirsting for vengeance right before they become bankrupt again for the nth time.
I think the amount of DDoSers really increased after the mixed reception of Dawntrail. Like it made place for ppl to hate enough on the game to actually make malicious move.
The DDoS attacks are just the CoD and fortnite kids that are still mad that FFXIV beat their bad game multiple years in a row at the game awards. I'm sorry, but FFXIV is just the better game, cope, seathe, and stay in yur game, leave us alone.
Hoping you realize it only takes 1 person to send millions of packets to a server for any company to have disruption to the service. it isn't SE's fault at all, no server can handle that massive amount of packets coming in at once
Considering that the game is always stable when DDoS attacks aren't occurring, it's a safe bet that the servers are being DDoS'd. Now if you want an example of bad servers, download Destiny 2. You can't go a single day without getting the infamous "Contacting Destiny 2 Servers" notification

4:03 bro😂 if I had a dollar for every UA-camr that thinks they know what’s going to happen with every game they speak on, I’d be Bezos…
I also feel bad considering it’s lost game time people pay for with subscriptions. Not fair to them for losing out on game time they paid for.
If your dumb enough to pay a sub after how bad Dawntrail was, you deserve to lose your money.
it's been WEIRD because i'm on crystal, and i'm in NZ and i have SEEN the DC's and have had a couple issues - but I was weirded out when Oceania got hit too recently
ive been noticing it really started badly around dawntrail's release
Surprisingly, I haven't had any issues with them, I never got kicked or had lag on my Primal Server. :o
Same here and i’m also on Primal ! Besides some lagg wich i have anyways in any game i have no issues.
That really sucks I’m sorry. I’d be pissed too
If you're not going to play, file a chargeback?
@@NolChannel1 hmm I hadn't actually considered that. Thank you
I play from India on NA and currently chipping away at savage
Due to me playing generally during times when people are waking up or going to bed when a DDOS happens it's insanely aggravating, wait for 2 hours for pf to fill, load in, I have to not only account for my own high ping but also now have to worry about other people's internet problems as well
I wake up at 6am to get some prog in before work, finally team fill at 7 then have to disband because half the team has gone poof
I've lost steam and I'm just progging m4s slowly for the sake of completion than the fun I had in the earlier fights I had in the tier
I'm in india too and it's been a nightmare
DDOS issues in FF14 have been pretty consistent since the launch of DT almost every single day after the server restriction thing was put in place. This has led to the increase of DDOS issues to try to open servers. I do however also think it is possible that it could not be malicious attacks but the way the restriction thing works:
Aether as example is congested 20/7 almost constantly but people from other DCs can get in and be in during the little open window, while aether residents have access all the time. I believe it could be possible aether is hitting its congestion point and then far beyond what its able to handle with the new restrictions that may be causing server issues.
Or it could just be people pissed about the restrictions. Either way sucks and hope SE fixes it.
EU here, no DDOS attacks but i have seen some lag spikes
(Well actually everyone got disconnected once about a week ago, but its been fine after that)
I haven't really gotten to deal with them since by the time I log in is around midnight. But seeing the long receipts of DDoS attacks is pretty scary.
Might be regional. People get kicked but not me.
It's strange. Before DT I DC'd so many times I lost count but after DT release I have had no issues and it is worse now apparently. Funny how it goes.
I play on Materia and have had issues. I get kicked at least once most days. Wont stop me though. It has been frustrating at times but I have learnt to only que in dungeons from inn room as it helps me log back in faster.
Not suffered a single disconnect in the last week and even before that I was only getting disconnected on the Xbox version, which is due more to glitches than DDOS attacks.
good thing I don't play during peak hours
Pretty sure this will be brought up in the live letter this sunday
Well it's going on in WoW too.
I will say this years has had a lot more ddos attacks compared to the last 4 years i have been playing like since February their seems to be a ddos at least once a week and then the past 2 weeks loke at least 2 ddos's a day, so i would say its been worse then it has in the past
The moment the issues effected JP servers, they went away.
Sony and MS found ways to stop it, so can Square. FF14 is there biggest non-mobile cash cow and they'd be foolish to say "Uuh nothing we can do!" like the fans that defend them. If there was no way, every online game would be unplayable like this.
i must be extremely lucky cause i'm Aether Crystal and Primal and have not once dc/ed or lagged this past month or any this month
Honestly I haven't had the worst experience with DDOS in this game, however when it did happen to me I decided to take a week away just because I didn't want to deal with it
Good thing the game has been out 10 years for them to update their server infrastructure. Oh wait...
Us WoW players: First time?
Is this on one specific platform or during certain activities only? I came back to FF14 about 2 weeks ago and play daily and have never gotten dc’d or kicked yet.
EDIT - and just to clarify I’m no trying to be that jerk guy who’s like “durr this isn’t happening lol” I hate when people do that I totally believe you I’m just genuinely asking cuz I’m about to do another month sub and I won’t if this becomes widespread
Doesnt effect me, but my whole party gets kicked out usually
You can say WoW has them. And yes they do. But WoW only has it for one or two days and then it stops a while. FF14 has completely failed to prevent them or not even trying. It has been going on for 6 months. How the hell does it happen for so long? Let's not forget how Yoshi P boasted they were ready. They have failed as a company. We should not have to deal with DDoS Attacks for so damn long. And if you want to take into account of EU ones, it has been nearly 10 months.
Guys. It’s just gonna happen. Plug in with your lan. That helps
Weird. Ive been playing for the past few months and havent had any issues.
Did you win?
There are a lot of factors that play into this. Dawnfail and its lazy narrative and content was a big deal. The usual suspects still exist too. People unhappy about rules or philosphies they consider harmful ( i.e you really can't talk anymore or you get outnumbered and brigaded, even if its just an explanation of a mechanic, not worth typing and going to jail. Just as one example)
I for one hope they shift their priorities after the negative reception.
So….ive pretty much picked a terrible, terrible time to come back…. :(
not running into any of those issues...
Sonicrida: FFXIV is getting DDoS'ed like crazy, its unbearable!
meanwhile me in Kujata Elemental DC (sipping tea quitely): hm say what now? i never noticed.
in fact i dont remember a time i got dc'ed from the game for reasons other than inactivity since i came to the JP servers years ago.
maybe, and i'm just guessing here, its probably because of the community backlash against a certain character in Dawntrail,
so now the "consultant firm" (if you can call it that after their "burn the gaming industry" tirade very recently) is thirsting for
vengeance right before they become bankrupt again for the nth time.
I feel like a more reasonable theory is a banned RMT user trying to get revenge
"Just accept it, bro"
No.
"impossible"
It happened once
Honestly ive been having zero issues. Maybe im just lucky?
Nothing new. This always happens in .0 patches
A temporary fix that I've discovered is playing with a VPN connected.
The way it's happening always seems to hit certain people so it does make me wonder if a VPN is a big help
@@Sonicrida Works for me lol
@@Sonicridawouldn’t suprise me. I’m on Primal but live in europe and i haven’t had any issues at all
no issue on eu, atleast i havent encountered any
Just let me play the effing game!

Problem is that every server's IP is publicly known and static
Yeah and they can't do anything about that unfortunately
i haven't be kicked at all.
Good video ❤
These ddos are horrible
I think the amount of DDoSers really increased after the mixed reception of Dawntrail. Like it made place for ppl to hate enough on the game to actually make malicious move.
dying? clickbait used to be believable

Block port 631
The DDoS attacks are just the CoD and fortnite kids that are still mad that FFXIV beat their bad game multiple years in a row at the game awards. I'm sorry, but FFXIV is just the better game, cope, seathe, and stay in yur game, leave us alone.
Depressing AF, but losers will be losers.
Why is this guy's voice so whiny and high pitched?
Too much soy
How do u understand that these are ddos attacks? Maybe its just cuz of shitty square enix servers? And they dont want to admit it?
Hoping you realize it only takes 1 person to send millions of packets to a server for any company to have disruption to the service. it isn't SE's fault at all, no server can handle that massive amount of packets coming in at once
Classic uneducated comment
Considering that the game is always stable when DDoS attacks aren't occurring, it's a safe bet that the servers are being DDoS'd.
Now if you want an example of bad servers, download Destiny 2. You can't go a single day without getting the infamous "Contacting Destiny 2 Servers" notification
Doubtful seeing as i haven’t had any issues. I’m on primal and i live in europe so you’d expect me to have lagg or something else but nope nothing
i havent notice the ddos cause i log in once a month to stay active for my mansion
It's close enough to the new WoW expansion launch that I wouldn't put it past some copium addicted WoW sperg having Endwalker PTSD.
Lmao, WoW lives rent free in XIV players' heads. Maybe stop blaming playerbase who doesn't really care about XIV and start taking Square accountable for their incompetence and lack of care.
@@DeadlyWandererVT Never blamed a playerbase I said a person and from years of experience playing that game I know there are people who are that defensive over their game being popular. One idiot among a million people is entirely possible. Saying that the people who went as far as pulling their game from sale during it's most popular selling time to ensure server stability are incompetent for not being able to resolve an issue that been pervasive since practically the dawn of the internet is an interesting take though.
@@lehran2516 Square has been using NTT as their provider for over a decade, and NTT has been garbage since forever, yet they refuse to switch providers for whatever reason.
I have seen people say:
-No one is playing wow, so the DDOS isn't enough to overload the servers
-WoW players are DDOSing FFXIV so that people quit this and play WoW
-WoW devs themselves are DDOSing FFXIV
-It's just on user's end and their shitty internet connection
Literally every excuse under the sun as long as SE themselves is absolved of any responsibility.
Edit: Forgot to add that WoW players are the biggest haters of the game they play lmfao
@@DeadlyWandererVTThere was someone in my FC who also theorized it was Blizzard, but we told them that doing this would be a PR nightmare for Blizzard.
I think it's a pissed off RMT user who got banned recently and is now trying to get revenge for said ban
@@chelsthegameruiner8669 Some botter/RMT user sounds more plausible, especially with RMT spam skyrocketing since the start of DT
dam the game has been so boring after msq is done (no casual content ) zero reasons to log and now you even cant wtf .
There is literally five hundred hours of side questing available, there are four complete sets of normal-difficulty raid tiers, there are two huge-instance zones as well as an entire side area dedicated to gathering, as well as all the standard casual grinds such as FATE rewards, weekly tomestone cap and gear redemptions, custom deliveries, and Wondrous Tails...
The hell you mean "no casual content"????
@@chernobyl169 i mean dawntrail casual content i did all that content before normal and raid content isnt casual content at best you can argue normal raids but nobody does them for most part. gear is something that can be done with hunt i na 2 hours , fate dont offer good rewards beside the epic mount for what oyu need mount of grind it mindless fate grinding . ew was perfect for causal you had real causal content like island santuary and i argue variant dungs too.
@@anteprs7908 ...which all came in later patches. EW was just as barebone. It didn't ship with IS and VD. Not sure how you can justify comparing DW first patch with EW subsequent patches and make such a claim.
@@sonnyngo5992 ew at least had msq that was fun that keep ppl intrested , dt itself will not offer any of that casual content (beside vraint dung )
@@anteprs7908 The MSQ is a conclusion to a 10 year old story. Of course it'll be more interesting trying to finish the conclusion than starting a fresh new story. Because of the way the ARR to EW is a continuality, it makes it feel as though you're getting a lot of bang for the buck. However, isolate each and every expansion and you'll realize it's extremely predictable and formulatic on how they release content. Regardless, your initial critiscm was that it was boring after MSQ, which at a 1:1 ratio if you compare patch launch features, isn't the case. You did MSQ > hunts/level jobs > first raid in ARR/HW/StB/ShB/EW the same way you did MSQ > hunts/level jobs > first raid in DT on the very first patch cycle.
Never had an issue, maybe it’s yall need new internet?

slightly more annoyed at gaslighting of fanbase. When over half the party DCs and all lag at same time, it's DDoS not all of individual connections at same time.
