According to Ann Wilson they got a blind invite through their manager and didn't know ahead of time what they were going to be asked to sing. They thought they might get Rock and Roll because they'd covered it before. When they found out it was going to be Stairway she said wh not. They may as well go down in flames in front of their idols. Added to the difficulty of covering this in front of the band? They only got to rehearse it 2 times - for a total of about 30 minutes - around 15 minutes each. And remember - she was 62 at the time...and she killed that belting at the end. Hell, she's in her 70s now and can still belt with the best of them. Sit down, Adele. LOL!
I’m glad they didn’t get Rock and Roll because I love them doing this and Taylor Hawkins on vocals for Foo Fighters doing Rock and Roll for this same show! I love Taylor singing Rock and Roll! It fit him very well!
I think the reason Robert Plant got teary eyed and there was a big reaction from the woman behind Jimmy was when the large choir appeared they were all wearing bowler hats, as well as Jason on drums, as a memorial to Jon (Bonzo) Bonham, who wore a bowler as his signature hat. Robert was very close to Jon, so I imagine it was very emotional to see, plus to see Jon's son, OMG, all of it really! EPIC!
Led Zep didn’t know Jason Bonham was going to be there! Heart was one of the few groups they allowed to sing this song. They had all known each other from the 70’s onward. Mutual respect existed. You need to hit earlier Heart stuff before corporate suits tried to push them into more “marketable” stuff.
The story is that Plant invited Jason to sit with them in honor of his dad, but he had to refuse because he had a gig scheduled that he could not get out of (this one). Plant was upset at this since it meant so much, which is why the exchange between them at Jason's introduction is so great. He got one up on Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin at his own ceremony. Epic.
no matter how many times i have watched this.. i get teary eyed at the end when Jason Bonham looks up to the heavens!! Gets me every time... His father would be so very proud !! Ann Wilson is hands down one of if not the best female rock vocalist of all time :) and lets not leave out the Guitarist, how nervous must he have been playing the most iconic solo in front of the legend himself??
Robert Plant got teary eyed because he was thinking of John Bonham his best friend back then and seeing Jason playing drums. The Wilson sisters idolized Led Zeppelin growing up.
Plant was more than Bonham's friend and pre-Zep bandmate, he was also Jason Bonham's Godfather, as if the emotion of the occasion and spectacle wasn't quite enough.
Ok guys you simply must listen to 70's era of heart may I suggest that you start with the songs: crazy on you, magic man, barracuda, kick it out, dreamboat Annie........70's heart kicked major booty 😉

Great reaction guys! FYI the song is available on iTunes. Stunning performance and rendition of this classic song! Ann said that she was incredibly nervous but it all went away quickly because of their love for the song and the band.

In a word: Epic. A truly moving tribute to one of the greatest bands by one of the greatest bands. Nice to see Led Zeppelin enjoying Led Zeppelin as we all have. Ann Wilson has the voice of a giantess. I've seen HEART in concert several times - never disappointed - and they always do a few Zep tunes. Props also to sis Nancy on the guitar totally capturing that song's signature. Awesome choice. *The woman seated behind Jimmy Page is David Letterman's wife, Regina, (he was an honoree as well at the Kennedy Center Honors that year) and Dave's head is in profile ahead of her.
Ann did it justice! This was a great choice Gentlemen, I will look back at which Heart song you did because if it was 80's trash no wonder you didn't like it. 70's Heart is the best!
@Chuey's Mama You are correct, we picked a very 80's one that was not great. We have had quite a few comments on what we should follow up with and we will return and give them a better go as one of our American artists we know nothing about. 70's Heart is what we will look at soon. Hope this one makes up for the Ed Sheeran one.
I believe that Jason, Heart, the musicians and all of the chorus members really did this Led Zeppelin epic justice. I only hope the surviving band members felt the love and tribute in the spirit in which it was meant to convey.
Nice one, Definitely a 10. Nice call for playing this 👌 Going soon to a 70s vibe weekend in 2 weeks . So looking forward now to perfectly groovy musical weekend🎵🎤🎸 Thanks you BPR. .
The Heart song you reacted to before was "These Dreams" which A) is a generic ballad, and B) wasn't even sung by the lead singer Ann (the dark haired singer with the great voice). It was performed by her sister Nancy which has an ok voice. You should check out "Barracuda" which more in line with Heart's music.
Ann and Nancy Wilson are very good friends of all of Led Zeppelin (gor many years) so they were the perfect choice!!! Try Heart's "Alone"....one of my favorites!!😉😉🎶🎼🎵🎤🎸🥁🎹🎙🤘🤘🤘
Rock Royalty, singing possibly the most famous rock song of all time, written by Rock Gods, TOO the very Rock Gods themselves and absolutely crushed it. Ann Wilson is quite possibly one of the top 5 female vocalists of all time and Nancy is underrated in her ability to mix a high harmony that blends with her sisters so well that it almost just sounds like a dub of Ann. When you see Yo Yo Ma rocking out, you know its good. A tear every time.
@Daniel O'Sheigh Hey Daniel, cheers for popping in. That was a great version of a true classic and they did a great job on it too. We may have to go back and check some early Heart out as we did an 80's reaction and were not that taken, it was well very 80's and corporate. We were expecting more Rock, so should check out more from them. Hope all is well with you.
Guys, don’t tell me you’ve not dipped into Heart’s early and iconic stuff? You were “disappointed”? ROFLMAO! You need to dig deeper than that. You are missing out.
history can be a strange thing .. music history even more so .. thank you for this Brit Pops .. in the repetition of life .. there are special moments . .and you both have provided that here ..
Funny thing is I saw Zeppelin in 73 in Tampa Fl. Was my first concert. I was 13. Not sure the year but I saw Hart in 75/76 ,Ga Jam , I believe ,so the bands were fairly contemporary. I'm sure they knew each other. Great Times !
It amazes me to no end as to how many of these react videos (most of them) to this amazing performance by Ann & Nancy Wilsona, particularly by people who claim to "know" this song don't notice that this version of the video is missing an entire verse plus. Can't believe people miss my favorite line - "If there's a bustle in your hedgerow . . ." Give a listen to the entire performance. Try this version and see if I'm not right: ua-cam.com/video/LFxOaDeJmXk/v-deo.html
@Peter Richards Last weekend I went out and bought myself a new turntable and found that my brother has all my old 80's Classics stored away, so they will be joining me soon. I have been scouring the second hand shops and picked up Eric Clapton's "Backtracking", Dire Straits "Making Movies" & a reissue of "Dark side of the moon" Having fun with my anti-static brush too. @Peter Richards Hi Peter, sounds like you have some setup there. I went more up to date with a Bluetooth retro deck and matching speakers, a lot less wires!! Having fun with the ritual of flipping to side 2. Have a great weekend.
I've said it before on other videos of this performance: One has to wonder what it is like to be an aging rock icon, part of a group that created and shaped the entirety of rock from their point on, and influenced many other genres.... What is it like to have had that success, to be finding it a little harder to play the notes with the same energy now, and then to be faced with the splendor of your own immortal work being echoed, even devoted right back to you out of love. If you're someone who has achieved so much and cannot feel moved by the gifting of it back in return by those who cherish it, you missed the point of it all. God bless all the great artists.
It's a great song - not quite Kashmir or Rain Song great, but very good. And Anne and Nancy did a cracking job in what must have been nerve-jangling circumstances. And full marks to the guitarist for holding it all together. But Jason on drums told us all we needed to know about how much the lads approved of what they were doing.
I imagine if you’re Zeppelin and are expected to listen to someone do this song it must feel like a true tribute to your music when they honor it with dozens of talented musicians trying to get close to what you did with just a few guys in a band.
Love this performance. You are correct about great songs, they can be sung by either a man or a woman. Stevie Nicks once said that a great song should be able to be sung in different genres as well. Heart is great! Barracuda, Crazy on You, and my fave is Magic Man.
The story was Jason wasn't involved in the rehearsals the band didn't know he was going to be there Dave Grohl did the two rehearsals they got with them.
Heart..Ann Wilson is the only band who can cover LZ..Ann Wilson is one of the greatest female vocalist to exist..there is no other band to do song justice..Cant believe you were disappointed in Heart..didnt see the reaction but GEEZ..they are legends..and by the way..Ann was 62 yrs old at this performance..
Jimmy was loving that solo. It had so much of his style in it, but wasn't attempting to be perfect to him. No cover can ever be perfect to the original, but the spirit contained within and the style... That is something an originator should be able to acknowledge and enjoy.
Wow 😳 I'm deeply moved and deeply moved by listening to a UA-cam cover of one of Led Zeppelin's greatest masterpieces in my mind, which was covered with great respect by the wonderful members. Jimmy Page is the best guitarist ever♪♪♪♪
Heart covers Stairway and a few other LZ songs when on tour, most likely the ONLY ones allowed to do so by Zeppelin directly. I have seen them do this live in New York state, and they CRUSHED it there too. They really idolized LZ their whole career, and do it proper justice.
When they wrote this song they probably never thought in their wildest dreams that they would be honored by the President of the United States for their contribution to music.
I SENT THIS TO MY OLDEST BROTHER WHO WAS A MIDNIGHT DJ AT A LOCAL STATION..40 DECADES AGO + WHEN HE WAS IN COLLEGE...HE KNEW WHEN HE PLAYED THIS ORIGINAL SONG THE TIME HE HAD TO GO TO THE BATHROOM....HE SAID 'JUST DAMN" ROBERT PLANT EMOTIONAL...HE AGED AND DRAGGED US WITH HIM...SIGH
80's Heart had some good stuff, but it was in no way their best stuff. I think the business was leaving them, but ultimately they never really left their roots. And they loved Zeppelin. They will perform their 80's stuff, it's not what I'll ever remember them for.
Classic song! Didn't love the group, but this song will always be a classic. Love the guitar parts, both the softer bits and the ramped up parts. I prefer understated guitar rather than full on electric guitar solos as a rule (though Brian May's had many a good solo over the years), but as I said, this is a classic. Nice bit of nostalgia, so thanks! Speaking of nostalgia, if you haven't seen the live version of Phil Collins 'In the air tonight', you totally should (111 million views!!) Epic all around!
@EnderOllie 4 Was great to do this one as we could not really do the original version as we know it so well. Same goes for the Phil Collins tune, but I may have an angle on something. We will try and get to that soon. This was a great version.
Hi guys, this sounds really lovely, she has a beautiful gentle voice. I remember being at school and the girls saying how they loved Led Zeplin , but they were the “naughty” girls, so I wasn’t interested, but now I’d be happy to listen to them. Any recommendations? @Elaine Howard Ah yes, the "Naughty Crowd" always seemed to listen to the cooler music. I you looking to start with Led Zeppelin, then give "Whole Lotta Love" a listen you will know it once you hear it. "Kashmir" we have done that by Marcin on his cover, and I always like "When the Levee breaks" That has a great beat and very Blues on that one. Have fun.

They normally play 'Acoustic, Flamenco, "Thrash" Metal' 😃 eg

Got to see Led Zeppelin in concert at the Tarrant County Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas in 1977. One of the absolute best concerts in my life.
It's like painting the Mona Lisa in front of DeVinci and you get him teary eyed with a standing ovation, Zeppelin was Heart inspiration forming their group, absolutely amazing.
The song is beautiful. 👍👍
It's a lovely track. 👌👌
Great song. 👏👏
STOP WAR 🇺🇦🇺🇦
From Basque Country with ❤️.
Ann did it justice! This was a great choice Gentlemen, I will look back at which Heart song you did because if it was 80's trash no wonder you didn't like it. 70's Heart is the best!
@Chuey's Mama
You are correct, we picked a very 80's one that was not great. We have had quite a few comments on what we should follow up with and we will return and give them a better go as one of our American artists we know nothing about.
70's Heart is what we will look at soon.
Hope this one makes up for the Ed Sheeran one.
What a thoughtful reaction to this performance. It's probably the best (and most emotional) tribute cover I've ever seen/heard. ❤👏🏾👍🏾⭐
I believe that Jason, Heart, the musicians and all of the chorus members really did this Led Zeppelin epic justice. I only hope the surviving band members felt the love and tribute in the spirit in which it was meant to convey.
Great tribute to this classic tune, very nice!
@Lord Lockdowns Jukebox
That's how you do a cover.
Nice!
Nice one, Definitely a 10. Nice call for playing this 👌
Going soon to a 70s vibe weekend in 2 weeks . So looking forward now to perfectly groovy musical weekend🎵🎤🎸
Thanks you BPR.
.
@Debbie Reynolds
It doesn't get much better than this.
That was a great version and hope you have fun.
Once in a Life Time performance From Legends. Ann and Nancy are Friends of the Guys from the 70s.
This is a piece of ART !
i feel like they were also seeing into the past, remembering all of it...it must have been a very special moment for them.
70s Heart was amazing!!! Magic Man, Baracuda and Crazy on You!! Do it!!
The drummer is the son of Zeppelin's original drummer. The choir at the end wears the bowler(sp) hats in his honor.
Considering the string section, horn section and choir this was very tastefully done and kept true to the original.
Brilliant is the only word to describe the only cover of one of the best songs ever!
I don't know what Heart video you guys didn't like, but their voice quality is never compromised. They are indeed like Led Zeppelin, ROCK ROYALITY.
Ann and Nancy Wilson are very good friends of all of Led Zeppelin (gor many years) so they were the perfect choice!!! Try Heart's "Alone"....one of my favorites!!😉😉🎶🎼🎵🎤🎸🥁🎹🎙🤘🤘🤘
This the greatest tribute to the greatest rock song ever, amazing! This rendition should be recorded and released!!!!
@Daniel O'Sheigh
Hey Daniel, cheers for popping in.
@Dan Ellwein
Cheers for the nice comment Dan.
Always nice to hear from you and have a great day.
Epic performance of an epic song! Some songs age well. Some never age. Great reaction guys.
This 64 year young Aussie love's this song both the original and Hart's cover.. 🤗
That was epic! It’s a 10 from me. 🙂👍👍
@Faith Reasons
That was indeed "Epic" and it needed to be with most of the original artists in the audience.
No pressure then!!
🙂👍🙂👍
Her voice, and she can still hit an F# . Absolutely incredible.
The addition of the choir was fantastic!
Gentlemen you could see Jimmy mouthing every note played during that solo I don't think you every saw a band watch a performance so intently..
Excellent analysis and reaction guys, love the honest review. Great job! 👍🏻
I can never get sick of listening to this awesome track especially when covered so professionally, Brilliant, cheers guys.
@Peter Richards
That was indeed an impressive version with the Choir and Jason playing too.
I guess you have that one in your vinyl collection.
@@BritPopsReact I have every one of their albums 🍻 🎸🎵🥁
@Peter Richards
Last weekend I went out and bought myself a new turntable and found that my brother has all my old 80's Classics stored away, so they will be joining me soon.
I have been scouring the second hand shops and picked up Eric Clapton's "Backtracking", Dire Straits "Making Movies" & a reissue of "Dark side of the moon"
Having fun with my anti-static brush too.
Cheers
@@BritPopsReact Fantastic, get a good phono stage & amp and enjoy.
I have a Technics SL1200GR t/t with Ortifon blue cartridge, a Dino Mk3 phone stage amp with an old Technics SU-610 integrated amp going into Fyne Audio speakers. Not the best set up in the world but a great system for me.
@Peter Richards
Hi Peter, sounds like you have some setup there.
I went more up to date with a Bluetooth retro deck and matching speakers, a lot less wires!!
Having fun with the ritual of flipping to side 2.
Have a great weekend.
I've said it before on other videos of this performance:
One has to wonder what it is like to be an aging rock icon, part of a group that created and shaped the entirety of rock from their point on, and influenced many other genres....
These are some of the best musians in the world. To cover one your songs is an honor as shown on Jimmy Pages face.
@donepearce
That took some big ones to stand out there front and centre and play THAT guitar solo with that audience.
Fair play to him.
Do a little research on this performance and Roberts reaction, it definitely brought Bonzo back to him in a big way seeing Jason on stage.
I imagine if you’re Zeppelin and are expected to listen to someone do this song it must feel like a true tribute to your music when they honor it with dozens of talented musicians trying to get close to what you did with just a few guys in a band.
A Woman wrote Stairway to Heaven. She wrote it for the Church. It was recorded & its longer. But Page Shortened the Song & changed music in it...
Love this performance. You are correct about great songs, they can be sung by either a man or a woman. Stevie Nicks once said that a great song should be able to be sung in different genres as well. Heart is great! Barracuda, Crazy on You, and my fave is Magic Man.
Guys - Ann Wilson is the female Robert Plant. Ann & Nancy are old friends of LZ from back in the 70s. They’re in the Rock & Roll HOF.
The woman behind them was David letterman’s wife. He was also conducted that year.
❤️🎶🎶🎶🎶…love Heart and Led Zepplin I’m a huge fan of both many years
It helped Robert Plant and rest of Zep be okay with Heart covering this song with Jason Bonham on drums behind them playing in his daddy’s shoes!
That bad reaction was probably later songs when they started getting commercialized. Early stuff much better...
Best cover ever!
Most of music Voyager has is Classical, Bach, Mozart etc. But Chuck Berrys Johnny B Good is included. ❤
Jimmy was loving that solo. It had so much of his style in it, but wasn't attempting to be perfect to him. No cover can ever be perfect to the original, but the spirit contained within and the style... That is something an originator should be able to acknowledge and enjoy.
Damn dudes, ❤... Ann & Nancy Wilson... ROCK GODDESSES, you might want to follow up....just saying! Hopefully by now you have
Wow 😳 I'm deeply moved and deeply moved by listening to a UA-cam cover of one of Led Zeppelin's greatest masterpieces in my mind, which was covered with great respect by the wonderful members. Jimmy Page is the best guitarist ever♪♪♪♪
There's a full version of this on UA-cam with a longer guitar solo.
The set on that dude to play the at solo In front of the goat wow
@EnderOllie 4
Was great to do this one as we could not really do the original version as we know it so well.
Same goes for the Phil Collins tune, but I may have an angle on something.
We will try and get to that soon.
This was a great version.
Jason Bonham son of John on drums, Ahh Shane Fontayne,Bruce Springsteen's guitarist playing lead What a god of guitar
Hi guys, this sounds really lovely, she has a beautiful gentle voice. I remember being at school and the girls saying how they loved Led Zeplin , but they were the “naughty” girls, so I wasn’t interested, but now I’d be happy to listen to them. Any recommendations? A brilliant upload chaps 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
@Elaine Howard
Ah yes, the "Naughty Crowd" always seemed to listen to the cooler music. I you looking to start with Led Zeppelin, then give "Whole Lotta Love" a listen you will know it once you hear it. "Kashmir" we have done that by Marcin on his cover, and I always like "When the Levee breaks" That has a great beat and very Blues on that one.
Have fun.
@@BritPopsReact thanks B2, I will have a look at those when I get home at the weekend. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You should react to the Kennedy Center Honors to Carole King one of only a couple in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame two times react to Carole King Songs She Wrote for Aretha Franklin Aretha Franklin made an appearance it would be her last before she died Natural Woman a song Carole King wrote for her and then recorded herself
@D o u g CA
Hello to you and thank you for the recommendation.
We have that noted down and will try to get to that soon.
Thanks for the comment.
Cheers
When you put on the shades, you looked rock star cool- in a very Tim Butler sort of way (I hope to god you know who that is!).
Personally I think this is better than Led Zep doing it and you definitely need to listen to the full unedited version.
