SABRE / War Thunder

- The very first years of the jet era gave us a lot of iconic designs. The Messerschmitt Me. 262… the Gloster Meteor… the Ar 234 Blitz… the Lockheed Shooting Star… the de Havilland Vampire. Aside from their propulsion system and some design choices, they were still relatively conventional aircraft, not that different from their late piston-engine brethren. It was only with the arrival of swept-wing planes when jet aircraft could push on to the next level… and the most well-known of those swept-wing fighters are the MiG-15… and the hero of this video, the legendary F-86 Sabre.

Such a beautiful, iconic aircraft...that is about as much fun as a prostate exam to play because of BR compression. Nothing like a 50 cal. armed 1st gen fighter going up against Cold War era fighters with afterburner, IR and radar guided missiles.
22k repair cost lmao
wait prostate exams are "fun" ?
@@plutoidrepublic2765"is about as fun" meaning the amount of fun you have playing the sabre vs cold war era jets is equivalent to that of a prostate exam.

my favourite sabre is the one that doesnt cost more than 10k SL to repair in air RB.
So you don't have a favourite sabre
The JASDF f-40 saber costs less than 4,000 to repair in my experience, but it’s still hopelessly outmatched.

how would that be nerfing it
One thing I like to point out is Britain, Australia and New Zealand also had the CL-13 Sabre yet it's not in the british tech tree yet why?
Australia didn't use the CL-13, they used the CA-27/Avon Sabre, which had the engine of a Hawker Hunter and 30mm ADEN cannons
@@Tigershark_3082 thankyou for correcting my mistake and giving me knowledge. I didn't know that :)
@@Tigershark_3082 the RAF had CL-13 mk 4s which would be a good plane to have in whichever fighter line doesn’t have the Hunter F1.
I expect the Sabre to arrive in the South African tech tree at some point. With those beautiful "orange, white and blue" colors. Also, Australia could get the meme machine Avon Sabre (AKA Aussie Sabre with better engine and 2x ADEN guns). I also expected the FJ-3M Fury (carrier-borne Sabre with 4x 20mm Colt Mk12s) to be added since the FJ-4B got added back in 2018.
@@choppergunner8650 all of those will be great to see in the British tech tree tbh
A local airfield has a MiG-15 and CL-13 that fly out every now and then to do simulated dog fights for tourists. It's really fun to watch them against the backdrop of the mountains.
The Sabre variation I want to fly is the Australian variant, the CA-27, it would make a fine addition for maybe an Australian branch of the British tree
Hell yes.
Is it the mighty Avon Sabre? That's an epic version of the F-86, would surely be a 9.0.
I also want the carrier-borne FJ-3M since the (IMO horrible jet, especially back in the CL-13 days) FJ-4B got added. Imagine grinding the -4B and only spading it after 1.5 years out of frustration. It only got better when missiles were added.
My personal “dream flight” Sabre would be the CL-13B: it has almost double the power of the first F-86A, with the quality of life improvements of later F models

Might I recommend bombing in it. If worst comes to worse and you find yourself in a top tier game, take the bombs. That’s how I spaded mine when it was 10.0. 7/10 people just leave you alone
@@dis_mc_boyo6548 Ha! I've played both the mig 19 and F 100, and I can tell u, the other team at top tier will look at F100 as mincemeat. Play passively, go high, dont rush in, and vulture for kills. PS: my Favorite is the Sabre Dog and F-100 :)
My grandpa flew the F-100D for quite a few years so yeah that one is my favorite. Met a couple of other F-100 pilots at a gala and learned they called her the widowmaker due to her accident-prone record (especially involving the fatal "saber dance"). Only the F-100F (two-seater/fast FAC) ventured north which is why her record is not as decorated as the phantom. I did learn about the Misty Fast FACS who marked hostile targets. I also learned of their lead pilot who was shot down Col E. "Bud' Day who was shot down and taken as a POW.
So long story short, having heard about the history of the F-100D yeah I'm a bit biased lol.
Love these little tid bits on individual aircrafts

I love the F2 but it’s a shame it’s the only competitive saber
I miss when the F86 and MiG15 bis were the top dogs, with all guns no missiles
F-100 on American tree is amazing. By far my favorite jet. Good turning at high speeds, which comes in handy evading missiles. And it's own missiles aren't that bad either. I've taken j35, phantoms, migs, it's just a great overall jet.
I cannot help feeling like lightning McQueen whenever I ride the sky blazer Sabre. Love them all
BR compression on sabres: goes to 8.3
Gaijin: releases vid about sabres
Coincidence? I think not!
You missed the F-107 Ultra Sabre
we are hungry for your STATISTICS*
It feels good to see the Sabre family but can we have more collection of Sabre that available in US? US have A-5 and some F model but non of them have AAMs while other nation that have Sabre have AAMs
You did mentioned the D model so..... when will it implement to US tech tree?
I was literally just thinking that.
Well the sabres that dont have missles only see some jets with AAM and even then the missles are fairly easy to dodge. Other sabres do have AAM yes, but those are AIM9B's and their BR is at like 9.3 and 9.7. but forget everything I said if you see a cancerous Harrier.
as someone with a 9.3 sabre, the AAMs barely make a difference and because you only get two, you might get one kill that you would have gotten if you just stuck with the guy a little longer to get in range of guns. It really isn't that big of a deal and AAMs can easily be dodged in sabres.
@@averyshortusername9597 does it perform decently in ground rb?
@@averyshortusername9597 agreed
I love these videos, thanks for it, Gaijin!
You guys mentioned the other nation built sabres, why no mention on the Australian CAC-Sabre, (Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation), if I recall correctly, it was a CAC sabre that was one of the first to reach super sonic for a sabre, a old story I heard from a gentlemen at a aviation museum in Australia.
One of my neighbors refueled a F-86L Sabre during Vietnam, I can hardly find any info on that particular variant, but from what I’ve seen it’s pretty much a Sabre-Dog
I feel like, considering the d&k variant of the Sabre have good looking cockpits that weren’t modeled in 2014, the other ones deserve the same treatment, but not to disregard practically all the German bf 109s, fw190s, the Japanese also could have the treatment as well. I just feel like we need an update that adds better cockpits to certain, commonly used aircraft.
"so how long will it take me to research this for free?"
"Yes"
F-86A-5 is my favorite variant for flying, but the F-25 has a really nice skin on the market.
Saw one of therein a heritage flight with an F-16 Fighting Falcon. A beautiful little plane, but quite smoky! Epic vid BTW
My favourite would have to be the Japanese F-40 because it just looks so beautiful with its blue stripes on a white body.
the cl13s were great, the mk5 especially.
The A and B designation were for different wing types
Also the Philippine Air Force used F-86F/Ds. It is in a museum and i've seen it but without the engine installed
Favorite Sabre variant would be the F86F-25. jack of all trades, master of... well, a few!
So uh why are non afterburner missile sabres at the same br as f86Ks after burning missile Sabre
Because thry are just as fast and turn better
Lighter and if you have an afterburning engine, you just can t get less than 20min fuel. 7min F sabres are almost as fast as a 20min K Sabre, and MUCH more agile.
Anyone else hear him say “a plane was being built to replace the old saber in 1949”? WHAT HOW DID THEY GO BACK IN TIME?!
I want an air RB map based on those snowy mountains right at the start of the video.
meanwhile the me262 c-1a faces one of the latest variants, yes
I remember sitting in the cockpit of a f86 sabre
The skyblazers F-86 is my favorite because of the mimic airshows I put on for random players with my friend. One time me and him was playing chicken and doing a split s at each other and we clipped our wings and exploded lol
that sounds rlly fun lol too bad I’m broke so I can’t afford it
6:18 Actually, according to Wikipedia, work on the F-100 Super Sabre started in 1951. Edit: it was first though up in January, the mockup was inspected in July, and it received its designation in November.
The Me262 has swept wings because its engines were heavier than expected and the plane had to be balanced by adjusting the wing sweep.
Very nice and interesting series!!
I got the f100d yesterday
Question: will you add proper ejection seats to the planes that had them?
