That new crashbar is still sharp and does a much cleaner job at peeling those pesky Penske trucks.
nice consonance
They should start warning their customers about this fricken bridge!! x-))
@dakota - Wow...their customers must be really dumb or/and ignorant then! :-O
@@mightyV444
They do, and they tell their customers that customers' insurance won't cover damage caused by running into that bridge.
And you know what? People STILL run into that bridge. SMH
@@KnittingPasta - Mind = Blown x-))
You really must get a camera on the other side to get the drivers face. Ha ha ha
I like that. A $200 trail cam would be perfect for that application.
I support this comment.
If he gets that front camera, the views would probably spike, and would be funny just seeing the driver's face go from :) to the sight of just "Oh no that price tag"
Should went above 13'6". You just know a half awake big rig driver will come threw at some point.
Only to discover that it is the same driver in each instance.
That's not a bridge, it's a "truck height adjuster".
😂😂😂
It's turning trucks into giant tin foil dispensers.
@@blipco5 almost like a can opener 🤣🤣
😂🤣😂👍
@@1011rashad it's called "the can opener bridge".
On second thought🤔; Maybe that's Exactly what you meant.
"Why is that sign flashing "OVERHEIGHT MUST TURN" at me? Oh well, probably nothing."
they should change it to ...hey truck driver you gonna be on youtube
Needs to be changed to something like "Approaching vehicle too tall. Must turn"
A little off the top, if you please...
You don't realize it's "flashing at me/for me", there is no indication it doesn't flash 24/7. Maybe they should change the text to "you are too toll".
To me this text is saying "don't pass if you are too tall, it's up to you to decide, if your are too tall".
People are probably reading the sign thinking that it means if you're over height you must turn, not that it is flashing for that particular truck.
Exactly what I was thinking. It should say "SENSOR TRIPPED - TRUCK OVER HEIGHT - TURN LEFT OR RIGHT" and have it flashing
Yeah it needs flashing yellow lights on the bar at least. And maybe say 'VEHICLE OVERHEIGHT!' and let the truck driver use his brain to work out where to go
I thought one of the primary requirements of being a truck driver was knowing the height of your truck/load. If you don't know it then you get the tape measure out.
Yeah I think they could make it clearer although I'm sure some people will still ignore it!
32 years of trucking and I haven't hit the first bridge.
I feel like such a failure.
Don't put urself down, if u keep trying ull b able to. Just don't give up.
Maybe you haven’t found the right bridge to be “friends” with give it time.
How do these drivers not know the heights of the vehicle they are driving?
Aaaaa don't worry about it we still love you
Your driving days aren't over yet give it time! The right bridge lurks somewhere
They should really put up a sign that says "Penske Trucks will NOT fit. Turn."
I doubt it would make a difference, obviously nobody pays attention to any signs when they drive. Lol
I agree
Doesn't matter the light was green so they must be alright to go straight.
@@georgebenevides traffic lights run on camera detection so that's obvious enough, they don't care about it. Their job is to get the road free as much as possible for each entry point. The bridge's sign is made from the district council or whoever works with road teams to inform drivers of road features, they need to put the sign up to Say what I stated in my comment.
That or they let penske suffer for our entertainment.
@@Blurgamer17 Im pretty sure its not just Penske trucks that cant fit, that's probably why they haven't. In the rental agreement the driver is responsible for above damages. I saw a clip of a guy driving a flatbed truck hauling a tractor. People just aren't paying attn and just drive right through. I left two examples. Jokingly.
They should just straight up put on that sign " YOUR TRUCK IS TOO DAMN TALL, TURN!"
Or put a turn green semaphore when there's a tall truck.
They will still crash into it.
@@The105ODST chances will still be lowered if the drivers are paying attention
They do !!! it says Truck is "over height turn"
Or at least "Overheight when flashing" Because "Overheight must turn" without any punctuation makes it look like a general message which is always showing
When you make it idiot proof, they bring on "better" idiots >
Perfect comment for this video and many more.
The entire town is full of idiots. They adjust a bridge hight 2 inches short of the main rental trucks used by Penske, as well as the taller trucks used by U-Haul.
No, just move it just 4 more inches higher

@@Wanderer25 I was just paraphrasing Murphy's rule.
Back in the 1990's I drove motorcoach in the Eastern United States. There was one driver who can opened the top of the coach under a hotel canopy. The bus was repaired, but I never met the driver. He was fired immediately. Luckily, the coach was empty when he did it.
Local news: "New Bridge Giving Free Haircuts to Illiterates"
just a little off the top please.
3:19 Sign shuts off because truck is no longer over-height.
Still getting a good laugh over it!
That's what the crashbar is for. To plane the truck down to the correct height so it can go under the bridge
Good to see the ole can opener is still entertaining us all. Even if it’s not as glorious. We still have it’s evil little brother the 10’6” bridge that just destroys trucks still.
The evil brother has curbs and doesn't screw around about destroying trucks!!!
Nope sorry, that bridge was completely replaced.
That yellow bar built separately from the bridge is a genius idea
I swear that the yellow bar is a couple inches shorter than the bridge. so is 12'-4" the BRIDGE or the BAR?
@@davidpayne4310 I think they raised the bridge by 8" and put a bar in front at 11'8. That way vehicles that hit the bar won't hit the bridge
@@tomgosy
Nope, bar got raised too. Bar height is slightly lower than the bridge so they won't get stuck underneath or actually got the bridge. It's literally only about an inch or 2 difference.
The first truck would have just made it if the road wasn't crowned so much higher in the center.
... its a Railroad Track...
@@gabrielkenny2054 what?
@@YTSuxAxx what do you mean, why are you freaking out?
Gabriel Kenny the road being crowned, the left side of the truck was higher than the right side because of the road slope.
The road way is crowned to prevent water from pooling up!
They should put up a sign for "the Can Opener"

Man this never get's old..
guy goes under the bridge; loses his couch, goes underneath again to get the couch; loses his hat.
Makes me wonder why the local Penske guy is even in business ? His brother-in-law owns the body shop?
Apparently the local rental company also owns a tow truck company. Lol
"Hey they raised the 11' 8" overpass."
Penske: "Damn! We've got to make our truck boxes taller. We're losin' free advertising!"
I wish they had a bridge like that in my town. I'd sit there for a couple hours a day just to watch the show.
Set up some lawn chairs, drink some beers and check out the action!

@@komkwam Haha! Hire some bikini girls to hold up scorecards 😆
A lot of good raising it did that was money well spent 😂😂😂
It’s only 8inch higher not much lol
Wayyyyy less damage
It's weirdly all they could do. Pipeline under road, and railroad doesn't want to raise tracks, so they're limited on options. That's why they put the sensors in place and the massive flashing sign telling you it's a bad idea lol
Yeah, lets blame the inanimate object for the actions of a sentient being.. There's no way it could possibly be the fault of the moron driver, now could it..?
Here a wild and crazy idea.. How about the driver know his vehicles height..? You know like they teach you when you go for your truck licence..
Also, planning ones travel route is important.. Google even has it marked (still) as 11'8"..
It all comes down to operator intelligence.. or lack thereof..
@@genelomas332 nobody hits a low bridge by accident. You have to want to hit that bridge. This one is a joke because even if you miss the signs, you can turn right or left in front of the bridge. There's been instances where i found a low bridge that wasnt marked and i had to back up miles because the morons only put a sign right in front of the bridge.
Penske should sponsor this channel. With all the free publicity they get.
The Penske rental yard gets a fleet of brand new trucks every 6-months. The manufacturing assembly line that builds the trucks will be in business for years to come.
It’s still the can opener just in a whole new way
The rental companies must hate that bridge!
Apparently the ones in the local area dont cover/insure against accidents to do with that bridge. You have to sign a waiver and agree not to hit it basically. If you do, you pay for the repairs.
Daniel Rawlinson smart. I bet they got screwed over a few times before having that drawn up. Sheesh
Not when they own a big rig towing company and repair shop in the area... 🤑🤑🤑
There upgrading there fleet every couple months.
This bridge has more comedy than many stand-up acts!
What is this "overheight must turn"? Should be flashing red "Stop Stop Stop. Your truck is too f***ing tall". Install a curtain of chains above.
Because of the intersection right before the bridge you can’t really put chains up as some trucks will turn right or left
@@dakerbal True. For the sake of those going straight I think it is worth it. It doesn't hurt for those who are turning to know about it as well.
Bing Lim Yeah but the litigious Americans would probably not be happy that the chains are ‘damaging’ their truck
This would be the better curtain, designed by Sydney, Australia.

@@gavinwalker8670 This is so clever. 👍👍👍
I would never, NEVER, drive under that bridge as tires are too expensive and it appears not many people clean up their debris.
So, yes. The can opener is still performing well! Sharp as ever...
Great to bring it back to business!
Keep those 12' 4" + vehicles coming fast!!! 😉
I have found my new UA-cam addiction
Whew! Thank goodness it's back in business. There was an hour on Sundays I didn't know what I was gonna do with.
Penske must sure be pissed at how many of their trucks are shredded by the bridge.
Local truck companies just be like ‘so we can make our trucks 8 inches taller neat’
I always wanted a sunroof on my truck.... No problem sir. Job's done.
it could be a lifetimes work for this channel !
You'd think they would put some insane flashing lights ALL over the place
They do
It is astounding how oblivious people are to reality.
Charlie Chaplin once said that there is nothing funnier than simply falling down.
But he never watched trucks crashing into The Can-Opener. It's always hilarious!
Well, at least the first truck actually made it through the newly raised bridge with only a small piece of the truck fell off. Can't say that about the rest of them though.
Love this one. the guys responsible picking that up big plus.
Looks like he took it home...lol
...or was the driver and went back to get it.
Thank you random citizen for removing the sofa from the road after the skip truck failed to stop.
I believe that may have been the driver of that truck.
The walk of shame by the driver as he made his way to what was left of the couch is timeless..
And he dropped his hat too..
Shoulda stayed home that day.. lol
@@joetroutt7425 Watching it again, I think you're right. he must have stopped around the corner and walked back. If he had checked the load was level before he set off, he would never have hit the bridge.
That perpetrator even cleaned up his mess....he is not irredeemable...lol.Thanks.
Woohoo, Was missing the carnage. Good job on the rental truck mate. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Theres one like this in Raleigh too, the next city over that gets a vehicle stuck under it every other month. Been under this one in Durham plenty of times.
I often wonder if people driving trucks have any idea how high the truck is when they come to a 12'4" sign.
Can totally imagine it’s clarkson saying “POWEEREER!” “That didn’t go very well.”🤣
I'm just glad that Granny wasn't sitting in that chair.
Yeah she seriously would have been upset ., and remember she was the one with the shotgun and definitely knew how to use it
It's fun watching the crashes, but it would be even more fun seeing the look on the drivers faces and hearing what they say when they make contact ! 😂😂
2:20 the guy carrying the couch was like the kid in Caddyshack trying to carry the huge bag of clubs.
Clearly raising the bridge didn't eliminate the overheight vehicle issue. My suggestion would be to move the overheight flashing sign to eye level where its more visible to the drivers.
I love that bridge..
Well, that made more of a difference than I would have imagined. I would have said a box truck is 12-10 or better, but I guess not all of 'em!
This is a great way to use GPS. Lady said "Go straight ahead and you have reached your destination".
This is literally the most amusing bridge in the world! I mean this is just madness!
I am not justifying anyone's action, but all those trucks are rentals. People just get in them and start driving. They maybe under the impression that those signs are for semi trucks. No one got hurt so I am going to 😂.
But now the rental companies in that city specifically state that their insurance does NOT cover this type of accident. They even point out to the customers where this exact bridge is BEFORE they rent a truck. Average cost per can opening--$20,000 to $30,000! So, no one got hurt--but their wallet and finances sure got tore up. LOL! 😂 😂 😂 😂
Exactly. They are not professional truck drivers. They are average Joes who were too stingy to hire a moving company.
It's the driver's responsibility to know the truck's dimensions.
@@Chilliam13 I have seen many a moving company hit that bridge
@@ItsCarlnotCarla No you haven't. The ratio isn't even close. ua-cam.com/video/u_9rWH0p43A/v-deo.html
Is it wrong that the more I watch these the more I crack up! Lol 🤣🤣😂😅 I pray I don't screw up like that 😅😂🤣
That trash truck was funny, also the concentration of rental trucks.
Truck drivers might have a problem seeing the over-height warning. I think a loud klaxon sound warning in conjunction with the flashing sign might be better.
That bridge is near some sort of candy store. When I was a kid used to go to Central Park elementary (CPSC) we drove by that bridge and saw a few which we thought was fucking hilarious XD
V bnb; ;;;4vp
They should install revolving lights...
seems like that extra 8 inches can mean the difference between a full box replacement and a bit of detail work in some of those cases
We should rename (renickname?) the "canopener" to the "backscratcher"
"MUST TURN" sign with green lights on both sides ?????
Thank you for noticing this! The whole illogical signalling concept is the key problem... an 8-bit animation of a truck being "height adjusted" would be funny AND effective... nah, maybe not effective but definitely funny!
They've changed it so that it turns red, but they still hit it.
But what good are signs of they're not reading the clearance signs that tell them they're too tall? You should know the height of your own truck.
I love this Bridge
No problem with clearance now
I'm impressed that the driver came back for the couch.
I don’t think it was the driver.... some random street dude thinking, “furniture from heaven!”
Guy picks up couch in arms, overhead, stumbles around on foot, IN THE TRAFFIC LANE...I'm waiting for one of those little go fast cars to change lanes to the left and plow into him.
All truck drivers should know the height of their trailers and read height signs on bridges..
If the sign says 11'8 don't try to drive a 12' foot high trailer under it.
Trucks and bridges.
A real good way to get fired
I feel bad for the people in the rental trucks. Probably just some family that’s excited to move and then they are met with a huge bill for the repair of the truck. :(
They shouldnt be driving that large a truck if they arent aware of its size and height. This is why I say leave it to the professionals, untrained normal people have no business behind the wheel of commercial truck.
Being cheap always ends bad
People with zero common sense are for laughing at.
That’s why the company and the people should be aware of the trucks height.
Its a truck war. They hire people to rent other company's trucks to put them out of service for a while.
Well, that helped a lot. :-D
It must be gut wrenching, that feeling you get when you suddenly become aware that you're going to have to tell the boss what happened to his shiny new vehicle.
Hmm, I wonder. . . . How much will that affect his love making, now he's an inch shorter?!
This just goes to show how many people either A: don't know the height of their truck or B: don't pay attention to signs around them, no matter how many there are.
The entertainment value continues...
It went from being a can opener to a can scraper.
I don’t think so
Remember victim 145??
Selfishly, I miss the 11ft 8 bridge
Me too. Good clean entertainment. Cleaned the roofs right off.
3:20 Pedestrian on cell phone -
"So I'm like, he did? And then she said...Oh hang on, here comes another Penske truck at the bridge"
Now it is the back scratcher😄
That was grandma's antique couch 😲
New height, same ol can opener
I got the couch,
I’m sitting here waiting for the tv to fall
But so far no lucky
Well, at least it just scraped the top of the truck and didn’t demolish the truck so that’s an improvement
In Germany we have a guy named Scheuer. He is a member of the government and reponsible for roads and traffic. A real clockstopper. Seems that somebody of his clan made it to Durham. Building briges. That´s a truck stopper
The bridge that never loses to trucks
Now it only skims the top inch instead of the top foot.
A magnet for Penske rental trucks it seems.
Next step, have the warning devices send boss music over to the radios of trucks as they approach.
You would think that Penske would inform every rental driver about the bridge and make them sign a document stating that they are fully aware of the danger involved.
They do.
Idiot drivers still remain.
Makes you wonder that since most trucks now seem to be almost making it that they might could lower the road just a bit. It looks like there is a mound in the middle of the road. It would probably only need to be 6 inches lower to make the difference. It will only get worse over the years as that stretch get repaved....
11'8" Bridge: Wetake your Penske roof off. New and improved - we don't affect your walls anymore!
Build a teeter totter device that start back at the corner. Use a large pvc pipe so it won't damage the truck much and when the pipe raises a large stop sign drops in front of the truck, Even attach lights and sirens. Leave the can opener in place just in case.
It really messes with my metric mind that 11' 8"+8" is 12' 4" and not 12' 6"
12' 6'' ...
@@M-I-K-E whoops
@@M-I-K-E 12' 4"
It's almost like it's the dumbest, most complex system going
@@VelcorKP It's actually quite a good system, the whole units are more useful and intuitive and the relations aren't that hard to remember or calculate. The major thing that makes it dumb is that one inch is not exactly 2.5 but 2.54cm and one pound is not exactly 0,5 Kg. If either side had made those adjustment back then, the entire world would be using one unified system now.
If the bridge got any higher or the road any lower the gap would never be enough.
So I sing “let it peel!”
There’s a company in England that just loves hitting bridges , infact it’s their trademark 😂😂😂😂
That first one will buff out no problem!
Happen to me once in upstate New york , forget the small town, there are two bridges side-by-side, one east the other goes west, one is 11' 8 the other is 13'6 , i see the 13'6 sign. 2 sec it was the 11 caught me
I cant help but notice the extreme pitch in the road these large trucks lean right because of it is the height of the bridge measured in the middle where the apex of the road is higher or at the outer edges. With all the money spent even on height detectors and signs why dont they put a drop arm like the railroad crossings to prevent further travel under the bridge when over height is detected as most of these trucks seem to be rentals with inexperienced drivers that are not aware of their truck/load height.
It's good to see that even at 12ft 4 in we're Still going to get entertainment.
You missed the piece that fell in the left lane before the piece that you made a big deal about in the right lane.
