    I've had many sunglasses made with tinted prescription lenses - the tint eventually fades due to UV. But when those lenses were polarized, the tint didn't fade even after 10 years! An optician once told me that's because the polarization is due to a laminate in the lens which somehow keeps the tint from fading. Would love to hear more about that.

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  Рік тому +1

      This is true! A tinted non-polarized lens will fade with intense and prolonged sun exposure. You can extend the life of the tint, or even prevent this by keeping the frame in case or out of the sun when not being worn. Mirrors applied to the front of the lens will help as well. Thank you for the information, I thought Polarized was the greatest thing since sliced bread, I didn’t know it did t block UV light. I love polarized clip-ons! Here in Hawaii they work great for beach while you look at and through the water, (for fish) and driving into the sunrise or sunset. It is probably not recommended, but I use it on a rainy night when the road is wet, glare from the street lights and from on coming traffic (LED. and blue headlights). It gets a little darker, but no glare and I can see! Any thoughts?

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  4 роки тому

      Hi Michael! For night use, it's best to use a pair of glasses with clear lenses and an anti-reflective coating as it will help with the glare from coming traffic. We don't suggest using a pair of sunglasses at night as it may hinder your vision due to the dark lens. Thanks for tuning in!

    I tried the test exactly as you demonstrated in the video with my sunglasses, holding them in front of a computer screen and then rotating them to the right. The difference I saw with my glasses was that they went from black to see through. My question is have they been put in the frame incorrectly? Or does it not matter at all if the lines are running horizontally or vertically?

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  3 місяці тому

      Hello! It matters in terms of the axis at which the lens is set to combat reflective glare at the horizontal plane, which is the plane where we experience and receive glare the most. Yes, it sounds like they were installed correctly!

    i have a pair of oakley polarized prescription sunglasses. i seen your video and some other videos and you all say to turn them 90 degrees to tell if they are or aren`t polarized. when i tried your method i got a clear image of the computer screen. so looking at the screen i see black screen when i turn them 90 degrees i see a clear screen. so they are polarized but backwards. my question is can this affect the purpose of having polarized glasses? when i look at my phone i see different shades of color but when i turn my head sideways i see a clear phone. you think oakley put on the laminate wrong? Hope you reply because if they are wrong they need to get this fixed. thanks in advance.

      As long as you don't use a heads up display you're fine. A heads up display is projected onto the windshield and apparently can not be seen with polarized lenses (I haven't tested this myself, my car does not have a Heads Up Display). Also remember that polarized lenses can make reading LCD displays difficult or sometimes even impossible (I HAVE tested this myself).

    First of all, great video and a great tip to tell if your sunglasses are polarized by putting them in front of a laptop screen. The fact is, for most people every day people, you are more likely to never notice the difference, or notice it in adverse way as was mentioned when looking at screens, car head up display, etc... it really is going to make a bit of a difference only when you're out in the water with a pretty strong glare from the sun so that's a very specific situation... so aside from that, save yourself 20-30% of your sunglasses cost by going non polarized

    When looking AT (not through) a pair of polarized Vs non-polarized sunglasses is there a visual difference between the two pairs?

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  3 роки тому +1

      There's not really a way to tell just by looking at the lenses. Sometimes there is a ring around the edges where the laminate ends, but for the most part, there is no cosmetic difference between polarized and non-polarized.

    I just got non polarized sunglasses for cycling, will it still block light out or is polarized just better?

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  3 роки тому

      There is nothing wrong with non-polarized! Many cyclists go that route. The only thing you may notice is a bit more reflected light bouncing off of other objects, but that is not necessarily a problem. One of the best cycling lenses is the Oakley Prizm Road lens, designed for cycling specifically and is non-polarized. It really depends where and how you're using your sunglasses. For very bright conditions and sports/lifestyle activities around water, polarized is the way to go. But for other sports where you rely on your ability to read contours in the road/trail (running, golf, cycling, mtb), non-polar is the best choice as polarization can sometimes affect depth perception.

      Honestly, for anything other than a ball sport, you’d be in pretty good shape with polarized lenses. For all-around use, it’s a great feature and one that I usually recommend! One thing to consider is if you’re in snowy conditions because it can make it tough to discern ice from snow. It cuts the glare than would otherwise help you pick out the ice patch. Beyond that, go for it!

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  4 роки тому +1

      That sounds more like a coating issue, honestly. The polarizing filter in the lenses don't affect it's oleophobic capabilities. Do you have a mirror coating on your lenses, by chance? Furthermore, there can be many factors that contribute to smudges. We recommend the occasional, conservative use of isopropyl alcohol to remove any oils from the lens before cleaning them. Make sure you get deep into the edges of the frame/lens!

      I use Julbo Alti Arc 4 (7% VLT NON polarized glass), Julbo Cameleon 5%-20% photochromic polarized, (NXT) and Costa 580G (glass) polarized blue mirror and they all work very well. It would not appear that the rock/dirt/sand of the desert produces the type of glare that makes polarization a big deal. I personally prefer a category 4 or a strong category 3 (say 10% VLT or less) to reduce strain on the eyes. Definitely with a wrap frame.

    Thanks for the valuable information, but I want to ask, I see through the polarized sunglasses the sun reflected in the glass of cars in the form of a blue dot. Isn't this a blue light pass to the eye and is it dangerous؟ Thanks again

    • @didamnesia3575
      @didamnesia3575 2 роки тому

      Not dangerous. Blue light might make your eyes more tired, or mess with your sleep cycle if you watch tv/cell phone/monitor with too much at night, but it won't damage your eyes. Far blue light (UV light) will damage your eyes over time but you can't see it. Get sunglasses with UV protection and some anti reflection like some Maui Jim's, and you'll be set. If reflections off surfaces like glare off vehicles and buildings bothers you get polarized as well, but not necessary.
      Sometimes if there is ice on the road you don't want polarized because you need to see the road better than your desire to cut glare, since the glare from the ice will help you drive safely. Tradeoffs my friend

      non polarized is most always recommended for sports and that's still true of snow sports. Polarized will make it harder to decipher where slick and icy spots are while boarding as the reflection is typically the best indication of slick surfaces. Been boarding my whole life (well since 6 and am currently 35) and thoroughly recommend non polarized for shredding on boards.

      The thing to know about polarized lenses in the snow is that it cuts through the glare that bounces off of ice. That can make it trickier to spot ice, so that can be an issue for people. Also, it can tend to make light look a bit 'flat' due to the glare off the snow being cut. It would be just fine for cycling in sunny conditions!

      Oakley has exactly that! You can get Prizm Sapphire Polarized lenses if you have an Oakley frame. If you do not have an Oakley frame, then we could always do a custom blue mirrored lens, but it wouldn't be "sapphire" exactly.

    If you loose cheap pairs constantly.. stick with the cheap pairs...
    If you can keep a cheap pair for any amount of time... get non polarized...
    If can take care of something get polarized..
    Polarized is the way to go all around if you ask me tho.... have a couple of pay checks in sunglasses. All of them are polarized

    Just a quick tidbit of info.
    If your car has heads up display, polarized lenses will make it useless.
    I have a BMW 435i with HUD. And polarized lenses make it disappear.
    However polarized lenses are amazing for watching surf and driving.

      That is a very good point! Many digital displays are okay, but it seems like most/all HUDs are problematic/impossible with polar. Thank you for mentioning it!

    What are sum drippy ass glasses that black out my eyes and make you not even see my eyes

      Not sure what 'drippy' means, but it sounds good!
      If you're looking to obscure your eyes behind your lenses, you'll need to go with a mirror coating. You can get a subtle mirror coating if you're not looking for something too bold, but if you want to properly obscure your eyes, you'll want to go with a solid mirror.

    Polarized is all good till you have to look at your phone.

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  3 роки тому +1

      That is a good point! I have found that the better polarized lenses are less of an issue with this, but it will always be the case to some degree. It is because the digital displays also have some element of polarizer in them and polarized on polarized makes things look funny or totally blacked out.
