I worked as an optician and all you have to do is look outside and look at a hot spot on a car or something shiny, and if it diminishes almost completely they’re polarized.
You can also use a second known polarized lens, from another pair of glasses for example, and you basically do the same thing. You look through both lenses, and then as you're looking through both of them, you turn one lens 90°. If both lenses are polarized, then they will be relatively transparent, and light will go through both of them when the polarization of both lenses are aligned in the same direction, but when the lens's polarization are 90° to each other, they will turn opaque and not let any light through.
It shouldn't work on AMOLED screens at all -- they do not need polarizing filters. it's possible some manufacturers install them for optical clarity, whereas in LCDs they are fundamental to the way the technology works. If you do this with an LCD screnn, the LCD will go COMPLETELY black. This is the best way to test, as it is very, very obvious if they're polarized.
if u have a LCD monitor, wear your sunglasses while looking at the screen, then tilt your head left and right. If the monitor darken, u have a polarized glasses.
You can also look at tinted car windows. Not after market film tinting, but the kind that is built into the glass. When you look at the window through polarized glasses you will see diamond shapes.
A much easier way is using a common calculator quartz screen, turn calculator on, press some random numbers and do the same, screens turns all black on polarized.
Re: how to tell if sunglasses are "polarized", there is another simple test: if you have one pair of polarized glasses, you can place a 2nd pair of lenses behind (so you are looking thru both lenses at the same time. If aligned on the same plane, turn the bottom ( ? lense) 45 degrees (either Ryan. Or lt.). If this blocks out ALL light thru the lenses, the questionable lenses are polarized. The reason being that polarized lenses block light in one direction. If light travels thru both lenses initially, turning one lenses. Perpendicular to the other will block all light telling you that both lenses are "polarized".
Those who are complaining about the "3 seconds" should know that to realize if its polarized or not it will take 3 seconds and to do the setup it may take ages for you as you are too laze to even watch this. Its a neat 1 and simple to understand.
Great and simple... Uses very basic science concept but I would use looking at car window screen and rear screen in bright sunlight to test it so far despite knowing theory.
Before the advent of the smart phone...we did exactly this but instead of using a smart phone "lens" as the 2nd lens...we held up the questionable sunglasses up to another pair of ACTUAL polarized lenses. If they turn darker (or blackout) as you rotated....you knew the 'questionable' sunglasses now passed the test and are actually polarized. *(I realize most people know this...but there might be a 16 yr old or really young person who doesn't know this.)
my polarized glasses at horizontal position does block all screen and when i tilt head left or right it brightens, so yea kind of different experience or maybe ray bans got shit polarization

Thanks for the valuable information, but I want to ask, I see through the polarized sunglasses the sun reflected in the glass of cars in the form of a blue dot. Isn't this a blue light pass to the eye and is it dangerous؟ Thanks again
you could alternatively just wear your sunglasses and tilt your smartphone display at odd angles whilst looking at it.. if you see areas on screen that are non uniform in terms of color or brightness it is polarized
You can also use a pair of polarized sunglasses. Look through one pair while rotating the other. The lens will you are looking at will turn dark and light depending on the angle you turn it. If no darking/ lightening then one pair isn’t polarized.
I bought polarized sunglasses but Im struggling looking at the screen of my iphone 13promax because of the rainbow effect? does screenprotector affects the polarized rainbow effect? can you help?
There is a much easier way. You need one pair you know is polarized. Take the second pair and hold the lenses where they cross each other at a 90* from the other. If the lens on the second pair black out, they are polarized. If not, they are not polarized.
Billy Morgan that's exactly what I always do. Every time I walked into a Sunglass Hut or similar store I have to teach the sales rep about that little trick.
Billy Morgan But it's chicken and egg. How do you know the 'polarised' one is actually polarised assuming you have been beached on an atoll in the ocean and have no way of checking?

No big deal. I heard the only thing polarized glasses do is protect your eyes from light glares. Not all essentially protect your eyes from UVA and UVB.
@@littlegoobie I'm sorry I didn't understand what you meant by "never go clear". Polarized suns are not clear and are not ment to be clear.
