    In this video I answer a question posted in the comments recently on why you should quit gaming. I believe there are specific reasons why you are asking this kind of question, and regardless of whether you have quit gaming already or not, the lessons I share in it apply to any big decision you’re trying to make, so I hope it helps and if it does, make sure you hit “thumbs up” and connect with me below.

    The best decision I ever made for myself was to stop allowing other people to tell me what I should be doing or what "life is all about". I'm happy and that's all that matters to me.

    Gaming is/was a huge part of my life. Like many have said, I feel like I'm wasting precious time when playing a game that has no end. Just constant grinding to get where exactly. I never been an excessive gamer but would love to focus more on art, finding a job, and pursuing another hobby. I will still game, but mostly focus on single player experiences that respect my time. :)

      Spooder ZK Team Wow, I mean don't you have anything better to do than spread negativity? I was talking about video gaming in my post, but that clearly flew over your head and I was never addicted to gaming. I just started to become very jaded about it.

    The majority of people I know, myself included, stopped playing video games just because they didn't find it fun anymore. it gets horribly repetitive if you think about that. The age differs but usually around 18 yo people drop out. But the point isn't just to quit gaming, we all have addictions taking our time away and it is very hard to replace them with something more useful. Mine would be UA-cam... so much theoretically interesting content, but it sucks time the same way games do.

    Video Games is like another kind of art form for me, it encourages me, motivates me, and it makes me feel better for my self. After playing a game, I always feel like, "Wow, I feel like a can make something good today." then I go do just that, I draw. I'm a newbie artist, just started out months ago. Playing video games helps me draw better, and it eases my mind while I make a piece. So I can't stop playing video games now.

    Hello. I'm a person planning to go to Med school after a month. I have always been a hard working person when I have duties but I have also been a casual gamer. I recently stooped playing games completely. Before this I have always been switching games back and forth but now that I have quit, everyday for a hour I think about the game last played. It has been 2 weeks since I stopped and I constantly withstand myself from playing even for a hour. Your video made my urge to resist even stronger. I feel that my life in Uni will make up for what I have left behind. Thank you!

    Gaming's been a big part of my life since I started when I was very young (I'd say 4 or 5 or so). I've had multiple times when it's been overboard/out of control, and others when it's been very well moderated. I think if it's something someone genuinely enjoys, quitting completely may not be a good way to go, but moderating it definitely is.
    When I was a junior and senior in high school, I always got my shit done first and maybe had an hour or 2 during the weeknight I could play, but also always got 8-9 hours of sleep too. Switching over to college, it was overboard at different points. Similarly it has been at different points since being out of college (5 years now) with a full time job. Since senior year in high school, I've always been committed to exercised/lifting 3-4 days and week. That along with a fulltime job helps curb gaming getting overboard, and I've also been taking online class for 3D modeling (what I want to do career wise). Between those 3 things (and having a girlfriend) I have very little time to game unless I sacrifice something else for it.
    Anymore I'm a lot pickier about the games I play and how much time I'll play them. Addictive games like Diablo, Overwatch, League of Legends, etc I've definitely gotten away from as, in the end, they pretty much become unenjoyable and I question why I play them. Now I'm more interested in stronger single player story/narrative driven games as they're more memorable and interesting/creative experiences. Or sometimes I just like an old school experience like Doom or Overload (Descent)to hop in shoot some stuff and be done with it afterwards.
    Some people may be happier and better overall going cold turkey on them, but for me they are a hobby I still enjoy and think I always will. I think moderation and not letting it impact other important aspects of life as well as questioning whether they're truly enjoying the games they're playing, or if they're just playing them out of addiction/as a default activity. If you get to a point you're questioning why you're playing something at some point and/or not enjoying it, then it's time to step away.

      @GameQuitters  7 років тому

      As long as you're happy and able to moderate, that's cool with me.

    my question is. i really enjoy playing LoL but it gets in my way of training and basketball games (im a varsity basketball player and dream of becoming pro) i play LoL for fun, considering my social standing is pretty good.
    i am pretty aware that im addicted cuz i do all nighters everytime i can. and this badly effects my performance in basketball. and my dream of becoming a pro basketball player. so should i go cold turkey or just moderate?
    is it possible to moderate an addiction? should i moderate this addiction?

    Man I've been sick over this. I've gone back and forth for a few years now. Weight has been issue for me for a long time. I've always lost weight, gone back to video games and gained it back. Two years ago I was 300lbs and it was literally killing me. I had to start working every day just to walk around the block. Long story short I changed my life. Fast forward ten months ago and my son was born. The best thing I've ever done. Since then I've gained 70lbs and have been going back and forth on giving up gaming. It's fucked up. I literally cried because I know I have to do it. I've loved games my whole life. I grew up with them. Many of my best memories are playing with my dad and brother or friends. It's almost like it's a part of me. The thought of walking away from video games is literally making my heart heavy. I've been working towards it. Over the past few months I've sold off all of my games. Nes, snes, sega, n64, gameboys all the games. Today I take the last step and sell my wii u. It's hard and its heavy for me, but I feel like that's exactly why I have to do it. I don't want to be the dad who comes home and just games. I want to make a different example for my son. And for once I want to see what I can do when I take all of my focus off video games. When I can no longer go back to that saftey net. Wish me luck.

    Hi Cam I'm really glad that i found your channel i've subbed and i'm looking forward to seeing more videos. I'm a long time Team Fortress 2 and recently Counter Strike :Global Offensive player, right now i'm in college and i'm taking concept art because i wanted to make my own stories with my own characters, and hopefully maybe make an animated film or series with them and maybe give something back to the gaming industry with my skills.
    Sometimes i'm successful at keeping myself away at playing games, sometimes i'm not, and its always a struggle with me when i'm rewarding myself after an hour of concept art but then i'll end up playing 2 hrs of CS:GO instead and then going on the web. And when i start trying to draw i have a LOT of trouble starting back up my creative process.
    anyways just wanted to share my own story so far.

    Hey dude, I know this is not exactly the usual sort of question you get, but do you think given the state of the gaming industry (AKA Activision Blizzard) these days, and given the documented history of the US military and intelligence services' involvement in the film industry (spyculture.com is a good site to look into that), where they change scripts to suit their agenda, do you think that a similar kind of thing could be happening with the gaming industry? I mean for example, in Modern Warfare 2, the American troops are hunting this guy called Assad in the middle east, then a few years later in real life, who is the next boogeyman?

    I don't necessarily antagonize games. I know that some people have lots of free time and so can play games when they have time and then are able to put it down and move on when the time comes. I think most people buy a few Xbox and Playstation games a year, and only play their favorite games for a time and then are able to move on. However, there is a subset of people that feel the need to play lots of games and dedicate themselves to gaming as a hobby. There's nothing wrong with this per se, but usually, when you choose to prioritize gaming, you have to realize that you will probably not be able to always play games, unless you really want to spend your life just gaming.
    Video games happen to take lots of hours to complete, and some games have storylines that take up 50 and 60 hours and if you think about it, that's equivalent to an entire week of work. The time spent on gaming really starts to add up when you consider the weeks, months and years spent on gaming. Time that you could have spent doing something to achieve your goals. People just need to be able to make an informed decision. In other words, think about the consequences of doing the things that you do. Do you really want to spend all of this time playing games, or are there other things in life that you're trying to achieve?
    Sometimes doing something like video games for long times can be a symptom of loneliness or sadness. Sometimes you seek to escape yourself from reality, and while video games in small bursts can be good, you usually can't just sink yourself into the gaming world completely because you obviously have other things to do in reality. There are so many games that are being released, that there usually isn't enough time to play all the games, without prioritizing. This can be difficult for a dedicated gamer to come to realize, because they usually want to play many games that are released and so make it a goal to complete these games that come out.
    Video games, like anything that stimulates us like TV or music, can distort the way we perceive the video games themselves to be and then video games suddenly take on a place of larger importance than it ought to have. It's when video games start dominating our thought processes and we are focusing on that inordinately, instead of on other things in life that are worthy of our attention, that it can be a distraction. Sometimes you might be focusing on getting "more points" or "completing that level." This is especially true of many iPhone games that are meant to get you to think about it throughout the day. It becomes like gambling. Most of the time, these "addicting" games that reward you sparingly and punish you frequently, are meant to play with your emotions so that you can keep playing the game again and again.
    Have control over what you're doing and make sure that you're really actually doing what you want to do. This can apply to anything that wastes your time when you're by yourself and only serves to self-stimulate, like web surfing, or it could even include doing things that are useful for you, but can still be a time-waster in excessive amounts, such as reading too many books.
    Either way, video games can be good if a person has already taken care to organize their other parts of their life properly, for instance, making sure that your goals and obligations are being met and making sure that you are having plenty of time for rest and leisure and only after this, should you consider video games as something that is under your control. That's if you're interested in gaming. Gaming is by no means an obligation, if you don't feel like it provides anything useful to you.

      +Game Quitters Yeah, in my case, I used to game a lot and enjoyed playing immersive open world console games. However, eventually I reached a point where I knew I could not continue doing it, because there are other things I need to do, and I need to make a living and as hard as it is to do, you have to know when to call it quits.
      It's interesting that now that I've given up on console games AND on iPhone games, I can finally start working on projects that I'd been meaning to do, but kept procrastinating about before. You realize how much freedom you have. It's not just games that I've given up on, but also reading internet articles (which is very addicting), spending too much time on forums, watching too many random UA-cam videos, watching too many movies, spending too much time on Facebook, and learning miscellaneous things that are interesting, but I just don't have time for; all of these things have a way of distracting you. I've spent so much time doing these things, while neglecting some of the bigger goals that I've been trying to do. That's why I've said, let me just walk away from it all, and start doing some of the things I've been actually meaning to do. You become much more relaxed when you take out all of the fluff and just focus on whatever you're working on, whether it's getting that job that you want or maintaining a relationship that you love or becoming financially stable and independent.
      I don't regret my time doing a lot of these things, because they have inspired me in many ways and I've learned so much from these activities. Some people have more free time than others and so they may be able to freely waste their time away, but when an opportunity comes to do something and you really want to do it, sometimes you have to know what to keep doing and what to drop, and that's the lesson I'm trying to impart. If video gaming is taking too much of your time and slowing your progress down, don't be afraid to set it aside.

    • @GameQuitters
      @GameQuitters  8 років тому +2

      +mel mist Exactly. It's not that games were the problem for me, but they were what allowed me to continue to procrastinate on doing what I really wanted, which were other goals I had. Happy to hear it's been similar for you. :)

    Hello Cam, my name is McKenzie and I'm a 16 year old gamer from the U.S. Of A. I play about 4-6 hours each day now, since it's the summer, and I recently moved away (meaning no close friends atm). Before the move and summer, I played sports such as football in the autumn months and wrestling through the winter and spring. I wouldn't play games on weekdays because of practice and school, but weekends I'd clock in about 4-6 hours. Towards the end of my sophomore year, my grades dipped as the move grew closer, and I found myself playing video games more often than usual. Now that I've moved, I've been attending my new high school's weight room in the morning to lift with my new team. After that I'm on and off the computer playing Counter Strike at home for 3 sessions of 2 hours on average. My parents are saying I'm addicted to games. They lecture me about weight and finding other activities, but my dad plays mobile games on the couch, while my mom is always on her phone. (1/2)

    • @Jacket_sama
      @Jacket_sama 9 років тому

      They always give up on fitness and diets. Yet they lecture me and basically tell me to not be like them. With them barking at me and making me feel ashamed of playing games, I'm starting to think it's problem. You've always said "if you need to ask if it's an addiction, then it is one", but I feel like I just need to regulate myself a bit better. With school coming up I want to be on top of everything as I start with a clean slate. So should I just quit? Should I regulate how often I play with my old friends? (2/2)

    • @GameQuitters
      @GameQuitters  9 років тому

      Mortified Mak Hey McKenzie! Great to hear from you. The situation you have with your parents is very common. Like I said in the video, it's easy to justify playing when you see your parents doing the same - but what you really want to think about is what your goals are. Doing well in school is part of that, but what else? What I'd encourage you to do is to do the 90 day detox. This will give you a good way to set yourself up for success this semester and also during that time you can focus on finding either new activities to do to with your friends or it will help you make other friends who aren't gamers. There's a lot of other things you can do with your friends outside gaming.
      I'd also encourage you to find some mentors or people you look up to (in person or online) that you can follow who are living the type of life you want to live. When you're at home it's easy to justify gaming because your parents are just wasting time on their phones... but the people you replicate will be the people you end up as, so if you don't want to end up sitting on the couch playing mobile games, don't replicate the same behavior and habits they do. Find other people who you can replicate instead.
      Hope that helps. The forum is a great place for you to get more encouragement from other people, join us there: forum.gamequitters.com

    HI there, would you say Retro Gaming is more healthier than modern games that give you endless acheivements and keep you playing online 'sandbox' etc? Back in the days of the NES there was a cartridge with one game and that's all., Once the game was completed, that was the 'acheivement' :) Id personally say Retro gaming was more healthy, if done in moderation :)

    I have a job now, and during work I can't stop looking at the time and planning what I'll do once I get online. It's at the point where some days I waste half my day fighting my brain to do actual work. I have so much of that fear you mention in the video. I don't want to let go of the stories and I don't want to miss out on all these great game experiences and my investments. But it's obvious I'm completely addicted and can't detach myself from the games. I just wish I could have both in my life and it's obvious it's not working.

    • @GameQuitters

      +sunrisewolf Hey. Part of what you're talking about is Pre-occupation: "Do you spend a lot of time thinking about games even when you are not playing, or planning when you can play next?"
      The best place to start is with the 90 day detox. Give yourself 90 days off games to work on things, and then at the end of that you can re-evaluate. Your brain is so used to gaming that even when you're not gaming (ie: you're at work), you're brain is occupied with it. 90 days will give your brain a chance to chill out a bit, and then maybe you go back to gaming in more moderation, or maybe you don't. Here's a video on the 90 day detox: ua-cam.com/video/zxdA10WKV6w/v-deo.html
      Let me know if I can help at all.

    It's really sad to see people having awful experiences with gaming. The way I see is that gaming in itself is not the root of any kind of problem in the real world. On the contrary, real world problems make some people turn into gaming as a way to escape from those problems and, ironically, it causes more real world problems. Game compulsion is a very sensitive topic, but the thing is that games aren't really the origin of the problem itself.
    I really believe that video games are an art form and have great potential in the narrative department. Games like "Journey", "The Beginner's Guide", "Firewatch"; "Spec Ops: The Line" and "Bioshock", to name a few, really speak about the human condition and resonate with me and a lot of people around the world. I really believe that video games, just like music, cinematography and literature, is worth anybodies time and could enrich someone's life in many ways.
    Keep up what you are doing here. You're helping many people around the globe. Just wanted to get that off my chest. I kind of already know the answer I'm going to get from this, but I'm going to ask it anyway: do you play video games from time to time?

    • @GameQuitters
      @GameQuitters  7 років тому

      Agree with you that games can be good and there's a lot of other stuff going on that can make our experiences with them less positive. Continuing to game can make it hard to deal with all that other stuff though - at least in my experience.
      I don't game at all anymore, just can't do it in balance honestly.

    I traded my 360 for a bench press, greatest trade i have ever done. Also traded all my games for weights. I have never bought games since then, except when i find them at an estate sale really cheap so i can sale them for way more money and buy more weight training equipment, and now i just made the decision today to stop doing that because it just gets tired and boring. Its just interesting to acquire 64 stuff and other gaming stuff just by trading stuff i find from people either throwing it away or given to me. I probably could make an entire youtube channel from me doing that.

    I haven't played video games in about 4 months now, except socially which has only happened a handful of times this summer. I've picked up bass guitar aswel and I'm going back to school this fall for mathematics.
    Bass playing, studying, it all starts to feel like work. I picked up jiu jitsu a few months ago aswell and I've always worked out and done yoga sense I was in middle school so hard physical work isn't new to me. I view physical training as I would view training an RPG avatar but I feel like work is all I do and yeah its great that I'm working towards being a better person and I know that road isn't an easy one but I do feel like I'm "all work and no play."
    What I mean is, I have no outlet for enjoyment it feels like. Watching UA-cam videos is like eating potato chips, I'm never really satisfied and watching one makes me want another. I do read for school and for my own pleasure but I can't seem to fill that missing...something. Is this just a feeling of being caught up in the wave of change I'm going through or am I just kinda being a whiny baby?

    • @GameQuitters
      @GameQuitters  9 років тому

      Benjamin Perry Hey Benjamin! Thanks for watching. Congrats on 4 months, that's a big accomplishment to feel proud of. To answer your question, one of the things I speak about in Respawn is that you want to make sure you find a few different "types" of activities. So bass guitar, jiu jitsu, etc have been good but they all fall more into achievement/physical/active type activities, and gaming didn't only fulfill those areas but ALSO they allowed you to relax, get a break, etc.
      So you want to find a resting activity - something you can do at home when you're tired, something to relax. Reading can be one of those options but I'd also recommend listening to podcasts (tim ferriss podcast, the school of greatness), learning to cook, graphic design, writing and meditation. Definitely add meditation into the mix.
      Also, try not to get too caught up in this stuff, it will ebb and flow and you just want to continue to learn more about what inspires you. It took me awhile (longer than 4 months) so good job on that and keep going. :)

    • @GameQuitters
      @GameQuitters  9 років тому

      Benjamin Perry Congrats on your best streak so far. Being worried about falling back is common, and you want to use that as motivation to continue using your plan to keep going. The reason you fall back is because of a missing part of the plan, whether that's not finding new friends, making sure you're hitting each new type of activity, spending too much time at home, not knowing how to deal with cravings when they come up, etc. But when you plan for each of these ahead of time, they have a lot less power to influence you. That doesn't mean they won't try, but you'll be more prepared to deal with them as they come up.

    ok so I've read your article on kingpin and watched your TED talk, i have to say i agree with many of your points but what if we are talking about games that are not online rpg or online first person shooters? what if we were talking about games that are not about competition? in my adolescence i played a lot of modern warfare and black ops, (i wasnt really competitive or anything) and now 4 years have passed since i stopped playing those games all afternoon. one day a friend of mine, which is now one of the most inspiring and smart people i know, introduced me to a game that changed the way i view games forever; Bioshock. i remember how the story and environment of the game blew me away as i started to see some games as proper masterpieces of art. in the next years i went on playing games that my friends recommended me and i found out about other unique and great games while not falling back into an online level up based game; tried wow and lol, got bored some days later.
    i dont want to make this game quitting attempt harder for anyone ( high respect for those who are actually trying) but my point is: in my opinion, just because you decided to make this "life changing decision" and stopped playing wow, lol or modern warfare all day, that doesn't mean that 3 years later, when (offline) games such as Journey, Flower, Fez, Abzu, Bastion, Transistor, the Witness,Life is Strange, The last of Us, and many more unbelievably beautiful games are released, you should abstain from playing them just because you decided to stop playing online competitive games with no good story, message, character development or the ability to make FEEL something to the player that is not just simply fun or willing to win against the opponent team. if you still have your ps3 which you have not touched in a long long time and a friend says: "cool you still have a ps3 you should play the remaster for Shadow of the Colossus" and you say "no" just because you are afraid of falling back into your addictions, well, that's just an obtuse way of thinking in my humble opinion because this game (and some of the others i have listed before and many more) will probably take no longer than 4 or 5 sessions of a couple of hours to complete, some games will take even less time! (it also depends on the gamer sometimes but still). it also depends opinion and tastes but its likely that many of this games will leave you after having amazed you with unique strong emotions and/or rewarding sense of accomplishment.
    do not generalise! not all games are a big ball of addiction and dull messages, its not only about gameplay and winning, in my opinion there are some gems that deserve to be played and appreciated.
    Thanks to everyone who has take a couple of minutes of their time to read my thoughts, i hope i didn't give the impression of be too picky or "refined" about what games deserve to be played and which don't, because i like many other AAA titles aside from the games i listed earlier and i am no "gamer snob",im just sharing what came to my mind by reading your article :)
    as english is not my primary language i hope you all forgive me for some grammar horror i might have committed.
    thanks again, looking forward to your answers an thoughts ;)

    So I only play one game, CSGO. its competitive, fun, and has certain ranks i can (part of the reason why its so competitive is because u can derank) ive been playinf it for just over a year now, and i honestly dont know if i should stop or not.
    i ised to only play 3 hours on each day of the weekend. now i have the time to play 2 hours every school day as well. im the top class at school, average rank but im feeling ashamed that i can be doing something better with my time instead. my marks remain the same but my confodence has taken a huge toll because of the game.
    i sometimes spend money for weapon skins but that obsession is now fading away slowly.
    do i have an addiction? just need some clarification from an experienced person or group

      +stirits Hey! Thanks for watching and leaving your comment. Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in the question of whether you're an addict or not, but most importantly it's about identifying that you want to make a change and you're allowed to do that. From the sounds of it, you aren't addicted, and instead you are just self-aware that you can do other things than game. Hey just a tip for guys/girls wanting to quit gaming. 6 Years of my child hood I would sit down, play video games for like 8 HOURS a day! But I found a new thing, Football and wanted to become good at it. So I practised lots and it took my mind of video games. Few months later I was a brilliant football player and didn't give a fuck about video games. Hope I helped!

    Just sitting around playing video games may be a waste, but if you're sick or recovering from the gym; it's a great way to pass the time and relax.

      +Game Quitters Hey man. Before I went back to gaming on this past Friday, I had passed 14 days of not playing a single video game. Since then, I've realized that I've kept up on a couple of books I've read and downloaded on my iPad, and taught myself a history lesson about the Vietnam War. So what do u think?

    • @GameQuitters
      @GameQuitters  8 років тому +1

      That's great. It always just depends on whether gaming is having a positive or negative impact on your life. Only you know that.

    • @ianglock1
      @ianglock1 7 років тому +1

      I ended up here looking for why there is such a stigma around gaming.
      I think it's important to emphasize the point of whether or not it is having a negative effect on your life.
      I enjoy it, but it seems a lot of people have negative opinions when it comes to people who game.

    I quit gaming after playing Minecraft for 18 hours straight. Loved my PS4, but it had to go. NLP and meditation has allowed me to quit, becoming free of the DESIRE to game. I have to keep after it but it does work. Think about how much gaming costs, PC and console. It can be very expensive. Also the time playing games. Getting back into playing instruments(Piano and Bassoon), learning electronics, spiritual work(similar to Buddhism/Taoism, ridding myself of attachments without locking myself in a monastary), working out, eventually Aikido(if I have the time), and learning about how to invest money. I don't hate games, I just realize it is time to never play them again. So glad I quit despite the fun I had. Once the desire is gone, I don't care what is coming out. That is the important point, rid myself of the attachment and all of the uncomfortable feelings that hold me back cease to exist.

    • @GameQuitters
      @GameQuitters  8 років тому

      +David Jeter Hey! Good job quitting and taking up NLP and meditation. I'm a big believer in both. It's not about gaming being good or bad, it's just about realizing that *you* have different priorities, goals and ambitions, and just because you *can* play video games doesn't mean you have to. Hope you're having a great day!

    This video is, in essence, its own antithesis. Talking about quitting anything, why you should and so on via a UA-cam VIDEO .. makes no sense. Why? Because if they are quitting video gaming (which, I'm sure you'll argue, has no value... which is untrue) then you should be quitting every other addictive and otherwise "useless" hobby you have.
    Now, you might argue that UA-cam offers tutorials, advice (like this video), cooking recipes and so on. Sure! I agree, it does. But does that make it any less addictive? If someone is spending even an hour of their day, watching UA-cam videos to learn how to live their lives - they're effectively hooked on Phonics. It doesn't make sense to tell someone to quit doing something that involves sitting in front of a screen, actively watching what's going on... using a medium that involves sitting in front of a screen and actively watching what's going on.
    I can think of so many arguments that will spark based on this as well: what if you're only listening to the video? Okay, but what if you're only listening to it from your phone? But music is the same thing, and that helps people, right? But if you can't compare the two, then what the hell? Exactly.
    Don't try to link this to anything else to disprove it- you're only further proving it. The fact is that you're sitting here, watching UA-cam, etc... when you could be doing something else.
    So, why am I not gaming right now? Because I've decided to take the time to call out the bullshit that is this video, which I just so happened to stumble upon because of another gaming channel declaring they are quitting for personal reasons.
    eod.

    • @GameQuitters
      @GameQuitters  8 років тому +4

      +Riley Aaron hey dude. lots of assumptions by you here. first, I'm not against gaming, if you want to play go ahead and play, I don't care. What I'm for is understanding what you (we) want to do and then aligning how we invest our time towards that.
      If you want to game, or watch UA-cam, or do anything else all day, go for it. All I care about is whether that's getting you the "results" you want in life (whatever they are to you) and/or whether the things you're doing are having a positive or negative impact on your life.
      This channel is for people who *WANT* to quit gaming, for whatever reasons they have, and if someone WANTS to quit they deserve support and resources to do so. if you don't want to quit, game on my man. ;)

    One thing that is holding me from gaming is that this is my only income at the moment. I get very low income from UA-cam videos but it helps me to pay transport to and from school. And I make youtube videos because I like to but gaming in general I just game to game. I don't do it because I feel like I even achieve something. And it makes me sad because I see my old classmates moving on with their lives actually getting somewhere. :S

      @GameQuitters  8 років тому

      +CaleoGaming Thanks for sharing. So what I would encourage you to do is to see you skill in videos/youtube as a skill that you have. Yes you have gaming videos, but you could also apply that skill to other videos too. Maybe you could even freelance your video skills to help others with theirs and make $ that way.

      So you mean like, if I manage to stop gaming so addictively and take note of the positive achievements and goals I make in life, I can help others by sharing my experience?

    • @GameQuitters
      @GameQuitters  8 років тому

      +CaleoGaming That is one thing but what I mean more is that you've been able to make money from UA-cam making videos. So although your videos right now are on gaming, you still have the ability to make videos and you know UA-cam. So instead of quitting games AND losing the revenue from UA-cam, you could take your skills and make money with them in another way. (Like on UA-cam but with non-gaming videos for example.)

    good motivational video, but my only argument to it is, everybody has a hobby or 10... nothing wrong with some casual game playing, just don't lose site of your dreams and what you really want. something I'm struggling with, but I'm not giving up. I still see my dreams and goals and I am going after them, however slow it may be..

      +The Casual Gamer Hey. I agree with you, if you can play casually that's fine, but if it's a problem or an addiction, than you should reconsider. And that applies to anything, whether it's gaming or anything else.

      i agree. and while i think everybody that games or has gamed(myself included) has fell victim to playing/wanting to play to much/addiction. its fun, its a release from the real world. but its something you gotta find a balance to and moderate(which i am working on currently).

    I don't know why he got so many dislikes in this video. His video is for some percentage of people. People with ADHD, depression, addictive personality, we are not good at delay gratification, easily to get addicted to something, not good at manage my emotions. Therefore, we are struggling with getting through college, maintain a good relationship, get promoted at college. However, on the other hand, we are extremely smart and think out of the box. Once we figure this thing out, we can catch up with other people extremely fast and successful.

    Some charlatans may tell you to just jump head first into everything, that risk is is the price of admission to a better life, but that is also how the biggest mistakes are made.

    There have been weird developments in my life lately and I would appreciate it a lot if someone could read this and help me determine whether or not I am addicted to video games.
    In the last couple of years I have lost all social life, I have dropped out of highschool (twice) and all of it was because I would rather play video games than do anything else. I have even gotten to a point where I don't even like playing video games, I get bored after 10 minutes and I generally have a lot of repulsion towards gaming. However, I can't stop thinking about it and it's all I can bear doing. Every other activity I think of seems boring and bland, and I have a hard time getting myself to do anything other than sit at my computer. All of these things point to me being addicted, but it's just so hard for me to accept that video game addiction can be a real issue. Please, I feel like my life is in ruins right now. If anyone could reply with some info I would appreciate it. Thanks for reading all of this

      I can't say for certain but from the sounds of it, taking 90 days off would help a lot. Part of why you feel like other things are boring is because you're used to the level of stimulation in games. Watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/_4q649mZfr0/v-deo.html

    Guys a game is just a game. Simple option of entertainment just like watching TV or listening to music or reading a fiction book. Bottom line is all about having self control and having your priorities in order nothing else. It is awesome that we have such talented people that create awesome games. If you do no work on your self discipline it's just going to show up somewhere else in a different form. learn how to to make a decision and stick with it and stop being so soft. Our society is so frustrating in this day and age people literally make a mountain out of a mole hill... goodness!!!

    • @GameQuitters
      @GameQuitters  7 років тому

      One of the definitions of addiction is that you DO NOT have self-control. So for MOST people, self-control works of course. But for an addict, their inability to have "self-control" is the very root of the problem.
