Kevin pissed me off this entire movie, not once did he stand up for Charlotte! he made excuses for her every single time. When they went to her house for what was supposed to be “a little lunch date” and it was basically a black tie event with very important people and he brushed that off, she not only embarrassed Charlie but her son too because he wasn’t even dressed for the occasion nor was his fiancé! I would’ve left that party and him too
It’s on the MAN to put his raggedy mother in check. Some of these men don’t know how to tell their mothers to back off and know their place. Anyway… I love Monster in Law! Jane Fonda did an amazing job! One of my favorite scenes was when Viola said all she wanted was her son to be happy and Wanda Sykes’ character simply said “What made you think he WASN’T?” And it instantly clicked to her.
Absolutely. Some of these men will go to great lengths to dismiss your feelings, making you question your own validity. It’s simply not worth the emotional toll of being with someone so deeply enmeshed in their mother’s influence. You have to choose you first, and let it go if that continues. Wanda was the only one who checked her nonsense lol
There is nothing worse than a man who allows his mother to disrespect you and tells you - that’s just how she is or you know how she is - don’t even bother wasting your time, it doesn’t matter how good he is, she will always be apart of your relationship because he allows it. They don’t know their place. Charlie should’ve went with her intuition and left him
The only positive example of a mom's boy is Jeremiah fisher. Its clearly that he loves and cares for Susanna but he's also still able to be an independent person.
I remember dating this guy a few years ago and he frequently talked about how close he was with his mother and I thought it was sweet because I like when people in general talk about how much they love their parents, but it wasn't until I found out his mother was still come to his apartment and wash his clothes from time to time as a grown almost 30 year old man. She called him all times of the day and would just pop up on him whenever she felt like it (because she had a key) , she was always involved and giving input in his relationships and coddled him so much that I had to stop dating him. That was a 🚩 and almost every girlfriend he's had she had an issue with and I finally understood why as much of an attractive, established, good guy he was he didn't know how to establish boundaries with his mother and never would
Girl you made the right choice! Still washing his clothes ?!!!! popping up whenever ?! I understand giving your mother a spare key, but she was taking advantage and acting like he was her husband. Like imagine y’all were doing your adult thing and she just popped up, they really act like they want to be with their sons, it’s so strange 😐
@@leiiib The crazy thing is that her and his father were married for 40 years, and he would tell her about herself, but she didn't care she was just one of those obsessive boy moms and it's not like he was the only child. he was the only boy though, but it's very common with West Indian mothers, they treat their sons as if they're gold
Jane Fonda is such an icon. The moment I saw Kevin's mother constantly calling him would've been enough for me to cut him off, he really acted like he didn't know his mother was this jealous, manipulative person. I'm sure almost every relationship he got in he had these problems, and I feel like he didn't tell Charlotte about his mother because she would've left like all of the other women, so he had to play oblivious instead of putting his mother in her place
What upset me the most was when his mother put peanuts in the gravy (In which Charlie was allergic to) and she got off Scott-free. She could have literally killed Charlie! Kevin didn't even defend her or call her out on her behaviour once. If I was Kevin, I would be so angry and tell her off, and cut off all ties with her.
If I remember correctly, he wasn’t aware of the peanuts situation. She never disclosed it to him and also she never disclosed anything like though his mom came off passive aggressive. Charlie never told him like no I’m not Finna, Stay here with your mom while you go out of town because She makes me feel this way. She never said anything granted he should’ve peeped the signs but she never spoke up.
Fun Jane Fonda story for those who love her…she’s a real deal class act. A family friend worked as a driver for her when she filmed in Toronto a while back. He raves about her kindness & that she took him out for dinner because she didn’t want to eat alone. Even gifted him a nice watch as a thank you for taking care of her while she was in town filming. He’s in his 60s so it’s his prized possession. You can tell a lot about famous people by how they treat “the staff”.
Kevin should had stood up for charlie to me viola was totally wrong to treat Charlie like that if i was in that situation i would had broken up with kevin Jane Fonda was amazing in monster in law and wanda Sykes as ruby

Yes! He knew exactly who his mother was and never once told her about herself. Charlotte truly needed to run quick, fast and in a hurry lol.
I think Kevin liked the mother in law drama. It made him feel important.

Not standing up for your partner, ESPECIALLY to a family member, is a red flag in my opinion. They’re supposed to be the number one in your life

The ultimate red flag girl like I can’t stand mama’s boys they are so weak 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Reminds me of trey from sex and the city.

Listen, I watch this movie about 10 times a month lol
Crazy Rich Asians needs a deep dive too
I agree we need this one because Nick young did do something unlike Kevin “Monster in-law.”
Kevin should had stood up for charlie to me viola was totally wrong to treat Charlie like that if i was in that situation i would had broken up with kevin
Jane Fonda was amazing in monster in law and wanda Sykes as ruby
To be honest that shit scares me
Kevin had no boundaries with his mom which made for a great movie but in real life would be awful!!!
I’ve been around mothers like this, I couldn’t take it! You spoke so many facts girl! 💖💕
Just when I was looking for something to watch 😂😂. Thank you
