technically she filmed monte carlo in 2010 (it was released in 2011) but yeah I get your point and the fact that she did wizards of waverly place in between that
the costume choices in this movie are so funny to me simply because meg spends half the movie still in her swimsuit and cover up, and cordelia shows up DAYS later in the same outfit we MET HER IN
monte carlo is my comfort movie fr actually that selena gomez movie era is full of my comfort movies monte carlo being #1 ofc but like another cinderella story, ramona & beezus, princess protection program, Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie... so good
12:10 i think that when Theo tells Grace (as Cordelia) she's different he doesn't mean different from other girls but different from herself (aka the real Cordelia)
This movie is so important to me. I watched it for the first time as a teen after a remedial class to prepare for a final year exam that will determine where I go after high school and it made me so motivated to want to study hard and eventually work hard to be able to afford to travel with my friends. I am lucky I was able to achieve that dream after my first big girl job and 2 years ago I finally made it to Paris which luckily wasn't as chaotic as the trip Grace had in this movie 😅
As someone who is not a fan of anyone on the cast but is just a rom com junkie, this is hands down one of my favourite films. What makes it so good to me is how well it sells the travel fantasy with fun far fetched shenanigans without making you feel frustrated, or second hand embarrassment. It all goes down pleasantly, everything is just pleasant to watch. The set pieces, the costumes, the cast. Even the character arcs (as shallow as it is at some points) is easygoing and gives just enough to keep you caring. Even the music is pulling it's weight which is honestly usually the one thing that blemishes even the best romcoms (the composer is Michael giacchino! The guy who composed famous Pixar films like the incredibles and more recently he composed for the Robert Pattinson batman movie! Which is really wild to me). I could go on and on about the small details that add so much to the charm of the film (that shot where the aunt figures out the truth and bottles of champagne are all popping behind her head. That shot where grace riding the car and meg riding a scooter with their respective love interests unknowingly pass each other on the bend of a road overlooking the city) this film is just so surprisingly comforting to me.
Hi, do you have letterboxd or something? I'm a sucker for romcoms and atp I've watched all the popular ones and I can't find any good or underrated romcoms to watch anymore. Can you recommend me some?
@@imouttahere9018 I don't have a letterboxd! I don't actually use much social media at all. I think I actually should make a letterboxd because I keep a record of every movie I watch on my notes app lol. Here's some romcom recs: The Baxter (2005) Miss Pettigrew lives for a day (2008) 2 weeks notice (2002) Overnight delivery (1998) Plus one (2019) Brown sugar (2002) Eagle vs shark (2007) Date with an Angel (1987) The night owls (2015) (while I'm recommending this film I'll also recommend 'the apartment' (1960)) A new leaf (1971) Crossing delancey (1988) Mississippi masala (1991) Monsoon wedding (2001)

It is ASTOUNDINGLY well paced. It's also REALLY well scored (which makes sense when you consider WHO scored it as you mentioned). Rewatching it there is not a single moment I want to skip through. Like you mentioned at the end of your comment, it has this sort of human connection type of feel to it that makes it so lovely. I think the central idea of the film is friendship, and that's why it's so good as a romcom!
this movie has everything a girl could want, young or older. You have romance, you have girlhood, you have riches, you have the "rags", you have handsome boys, you have conflict, you have lessons, the wardrobe, the music. This movie is a any girls dream its so good
I was OBSESSED with everything Selena Gomez did at the time this came out. I got the DVD and still have it cause I love the film so much. In 2012 I first went to Paris and fell in love with it (and even lived there for a while), now I still want to go to Monaco because of this film haha
I watched this at the cinema where Transformers was playing and everyone was lining for that, and there were like 50 of us at the screening. We have taste.
I can't believe that I've never seen this movie!!! It's so up my alley, and I'm so glad that you came back with another fabulous video!!! I need to go find the full version ASAP.
WAS REWATCHING THIS THE OTHER DAY. CAN'T AGREE MORE THAT IT'S THE GOAT. But my dreams were crushed because I used to think if I travelled to Monte Carlo I'd meet THE ONE lol.
I had a dvd with aquamarine and Monte Carlo on it and it was my LIFE growing up, I wish I knew where it was because I must’ve watched it hundreds of times
omg i was OBSESSED with this movie when i was younger!! i always wanted to go to paris and see the Eiffel tower so i felt like this movie was made for me loll
I remember watching this movie with my mom during the Paramedic, and at the start we thought it was gonna be so predictable and we made little guesses what was gonna happen next, and we were wrong almost everytime
So hyped for a new basicgorl video!!! Definitely watching this movie with my partner this weekend, seems like such a fun time. And good luck on the agent hunt! Publishing can be cutthroat, but you got this 😎 Black girl romance is so needed in the space, and your humor is everything 🙌
I adore this movie so much. I originally fpund it theough my local rent video store selling off their movies for chepa because they were going out of business. It is my favorite movie and I show it to everyone I can. It is SO well paced, and just a good bit of fun.
I watched it for the first time as a 20yo guy as part of a list of movies whose German title start with "Plötzlich ...". This movie surprised me. Yes you need some high suspension of disbelieve but at the same time the dialogue is running circles around Thor4 or TheFlash. This movie has suttle moments and a great Chaotic last 20 Minutes. It's not too long and hits a great tonal balance. Definitely underrated
The movie came out in 2011 and I still adore it as an adult. It's got me in a CHOKE HOLD.
I show it to EVERYBODY I can
Live regards from monte carlo, ua-cam.com/video/LM1_RRTlAW8/v-deo.htmlsi=FtEv1GhqTcEZTFTY
kinda wild to think Selena started in Monte Carlo in 2011 and the SPRING BREAKERS in 2012, def a change of pace
I remember thinking about that when Spring Breakers came out
technically she filmed monte carlo in 2010 (it was released in 2011) but yeah I get your point and the fact that she did wizards of waverly place in between that
the costume choices in this movie are so funny to me simply because meg spends half the movie still in her swimsuit and cover up, and cordelia shows up DAYS later in the same outfit we MET HER IN
the entire budget probably went into the location 😭😭😭
My only explanation would be that she was on a bender and only has that one “put-together” outfit
monte carlo is my comfort movie fr

yall are so sweet 💖 thanks for watchinggg

Does anyone remember how Round & Round was used as a promo single for this movie too? What an iconic time honestly

Every year I randomly remember this movie exists n how good/entertaining it is… thank you for reminding me tdy😋
Based on the behind-the-scenes footage, it *almost* looks like Pierre was interested in Leighton, and Selena was interested in Cory!
Thanks for returning, just when we needed you the most. We missed your videos.
Monte Carlo, aquamarine, and clueless are my holy trinity of comfort movies ☺️
I remember when I watched Aquamarine for the first scene…I wanted to be a mermaid so badly 😫💕.
Oh and add A Cinderella Story to that list too.
