Great video! Glad to see the detail and how you shared the measurements at the end. I know it's hard to gauge what should make the cut for a video but you nailed it. keep them coming! All instructions and tips will help when I convert my 68.
I commend U sir! Y’all r duin a great job on that ol coupe! We build & restore mustangs 4 a living! Drag cars in particular! I did this same build a few years ago! Only problem I ran into is the coupe driprails on the W/S pillars are 1/8” taller than the fastback drip rails! Unfortunately figured that out tryin 2 put on the mouldings! Had 2 carefully cut off 1/8 inch of drip rail on a freshly painted car! Learn sumthin new every day! Good luck U guys & I hope that little tip helps y’all out! Test fit ur new drip mouldings b4 U paint! 👍👌
you know , if you turn your gaurd on that grinder and cut with the other side of the disc . It will be a lot less likely to throw that grinder into your body if it grabs, it is also a lot easyer to control when you are holding back from pulling away on it than holding it from pushing back on you 😉
Tons of these coupe to fastback videos, each different. If that’s what you want go for it. I’ve done roof swaps on fox bodies (T top conversions) and even roadster conversions on tri fives. Enjoyed your video but looks like you did your conversion the hard way.
Do people actually whine about cutting up Mustang coups? You can literally build a completely new one from parts/repro parts. Not to mention how many were made. Some people just have to complain to make them feel special I guess. Nice work.
My cousin and me want to drive out to Texas with his 67 coupe and see if you'll lead the way to a fastback conversion on his 67 coupe? His coupes roof his gonzo rusto field. We're down to work our buts off. Teamwork lol
@@FollowTheBuilds I'm gonna let my cousin know you responded. So you recomend the Dynacorn kit? Where does one purxhase that kit? We're in California we'd come to Texas and get down with you.
Hello. Did you order the complete door frame assemblies and cut them and use only part of them to minimize the work? Or did you order just part of the door frame assembly. Can't really tell, I don't think there is a mention in the video, but in the background I can see part of an unused frame. But in the video I don't see you installing the complete door frame as listed on your parts list. Just looking for clarification. Thank you!!
I did order it but didn’t use it all. On this one I chose to keep the b pillars as they were in great shape but noting that I will be adding metal where the couple rear window is. This allowed me to set the door gaps easily. But on the previous I removed the door B pillars and it worked out well there too. I think it really just depends on condition of your coupe which route you go. In my opinion there is no need to cut if there’s good cond metal behind it. I do spend time treating the rust with Por 15 and/or weld thru primer. I didn’t film all the regrettably. Thanks for this comment!
I used Dynaglass and it worked out great. It has small strands of fiberglass and really bonds well. It’s a complex shape with quite a bit of geometry going on at that location. I suppose you could fab sheet metal but feel metal putty would have to be used at some point. Slow welds with compressed air between so to not warp or distort things.
Appreciate the video and details! Question: at 14:07 time, you install the qrt/door frame assembly. Your pn 6380 on Kentucky stangs is the WHOLE asm which includes the lower structures (wheel wells, A pillar, hinge pillar, rockers, etc,)and is pricey. Can you just buy the part you installed which does not includes all the extra ? Hope that makes sense. Appreciate your time and help. Thank you.
Thanks for the question! The answer is yes although it comes with a kit. I have the opportunity to have a discount code for the metal. I should have that soon message me at followthebuilds@gmail.com
I purchased the metal last year during a holiday special, when they offered a steep discount. The 4k did not include the freight shipping, though. Thanks for the heads-up about the link- I'll look into it and update it.
You could totally do that if one is avail. Floors are different as verts have more inner rocker structure. Many have preferred that flooring to reduce flex under torque. Subframe connectors work there though. I’d say it’s not worth the extra $ on the vert unless you just find a great deal on one. It’s just a few more cuts on a coupe than a very.
you should have save these drip rails for someone :'( I had to buy another coupe to have some "new drip rails" coz they don't make reproduction piece.. 😢 cheers from France !
Here's a novel idea, why not just buy a fastback? There are so many fastbacks and so few coupes on the road. Did you bother to check the history of the car? May have been worth restoring.
I can’t stand a coupe to Fastback conversion. For you… it might be an awesome and cheap way to have a FB. But down the road, someone always seems to get screwed over by assuming that all Fastbacks are created equally. They end up paying Fastback price for a coupe conversion. 👎🏼
I think I can understand your point and hadn’t thought about folks being dishonest about this down the road. I can see that happening if someone wasn’t aware of deciphering VIN digits. It’s a mod isn’t for everyone for sure. Appreciate the feedback.
@@FollowTheBuilds - 100%. It takes a ton of patience and amazing skill to do. But somewhere down the line, some poor guy / gal who can’t read a buck tag or vin gets bamboozled

Heck yeah!!
wow ! from one Mustang lover to another awesome video I'm already fantasizing you made it look so easy Thanks
I daily drive a survivor 1967 mustang convertible, and I'd love to have a 6 to 8 coupe to fastback conversion some day
Tks for cutting up a coupe, seriously
I am weary of people moaning about "destroying" some 6 cylinder automatic coupe. As if they will EVER be worth much
Great work.
Very impressive to complete that much metal work in 35 hours.
Thank you this is extremely helpful information!

I have seen so many conversions done on you tube I don’t know which way to go. Any advice
Where were you able to find the fastback metal for 3800? The cheapest I've been able to find so far was just over 5k...

I know this was 10 months ago but where did you get metal for $3800?
Hey bro, how much would you like for the package tray? I am fixing up a 68 coupe and could use those.
You can have it my friend! Glad it will go to a nice home!
Great job..Do you have the measurements around the door jamb and b pillars, height to make sure doors fit. Thanks
Yes I can get those!
hi what price range are you looking to sell the body for,

How did you fill the gap between the roof and quarter panels? What are your thoughts on fabricating and welding a piece of sheetmetal?

WHY DIDN'T YOU START WITH A CONVERTIBLE

There is no black market for converted coupes being passed off as fastbacks. Doesn’t happen, ever.
