I Own Four Rolexes, Three Omegas, Two Pateks, And Two JLC Watches. Which 5 Do I Keep? | Hey HODINKEE

- Hey gang, welcome to another episode of Hey, HODINKEE! where you ask watch questions, and we give watch answers. As always, HODINKEE's Editor In Chief, Jack Forster, is on the case.
Today we have three questions that come from very different directions but which all speak to the variety of interests found among watch collectors. A reader writes in with the most detailed question we've taken on so far, which is: Of all the watches I've got (and they've got a lot) which ones should I let go to fund a new business enterprise, and which ones do I keep that speak to my deepest love of horology. Another wants to know just why some cities show up on world time dials and others don't (looking at you, Chicago).
And finally, a reader writes in looking for an answer to that most burning of horological mysteries: Why are blued hands a thing?
We hope, as always, that you enjoy the show! If you'd like to see your questions featured in an upcoming episode, email us at hey@hodinkee.com.

Loved Jack's smile when the collection was being read out....
He prolly tried not to laugh hearing the Omega's reference numbers
Listening to someone read out Omega part numbers is hilarious 😅
Jack's face was great.
"mmm I recognize that Rolex, love that one!"
"mmm I recognize that Patek, love that one!"
"mmm I recognize that JLC, love that one!"
"...Omega WTF"
2:27 is where the fun starts... sounding like international phone numbers as the story goes some people actually tried to telephone these 😅 😅
Omega for being such a big company really missed it with the reference numbers lol
The most 1%er title of any video ever 😂😂
I’ve found that the more money I make the less I’m inclined to talk/brag about it. I don’t understand the psyche of those going in the opposite direction.
Jarren simply put there are a lot of Jabronis out there that want to try to flex but no amount of money can change the fact that they are a jabroni
Dude's lying anyway.
1:03 my favourite hodinkee edit ever.
the kanye "hehh?" got me to
Haha was checking the comments cuz I knew I wasn't alone
Funny and on point as always Jack. I enjoyed the straight shooting on the subject of what to keep in a collection. Every watch enthusiast goes through this exercise at least once a year. Your logic was spot on. BTW Chicago has real pizza along with its hotdogs!!
Reading out all the references (especially for those Omegas) was just ridiculous
Great as always!
Great section !! Well done Hodinkee
Singapore and Hong Kong is another example of competing timezone names!
I love the Hey Hodinkee series and Jack is not only my favorite watch journalist (aficionado, scholar, geek, sherpa), but he is also my favorite journalist anywhere. Love the deep dives. Jack could stretch Hey Hodinkee to a regular 30 to 45 minutes worth (if he had the time) and it would be one of those weekly viewing essentials ... and by the way, there is a real video void to be filled here in the watch nerd space. Thanks, Jack, and Thanks Hodinkee.
Love these episodes, more often please.
Dont mind me, just bingeing all your hey hodinkee videos
Interesting episode! Love the Yashica GSN btw.
Great video. So much covered in such little time.
Great series, very approachable and interesting.
Delightful. Straightforward but with that very pleasing Forsterian pinch of salt.
1:04 Kanye is that you?
Love this series!!!
If no one else is going to appreciate the Kanye sound bite… then I will! Good move Hodinkee
I can watch this all-day.
Arms and armour besides guns were heat blued a lot as well, especially armour and sword hilts.
1.Good on Nora for reading the collection off like a champ. ( the beautiful voice of hey hodinkee)
2. Do or die Cardinals & Blues fan. Not that St. Louis will ever show up on a world timer, but so loved Jacks jab at Chicago!!!!👍🏻
Jack is savage on the Omegas - got rid of all of them plus savage on Chicago!!!
It's really crazy how people need to sell watches to invest in a new business...just shows they don't have their priorities straight
Yes instead of wasting the money in some business they could acquire fine timepieces instead!
He's probably lying.
I know ppl who set up multi million pound business with 5k.. very tight with money and would drive a 20 year old car now he can buy any watch or car he wants
I would have kept as the 5th watch the Geophysics limited edition. Quite unique watch.
In the last two decades, Buenos Aires is no longer featured on the dial. I'm from there, as well as NYC, so when I should decide to get a worldtimer, it's gotta be a BsAs one.
1:03 kanye's "HUH" got me weak LMAO
5 watch would be the nautilus ultraman gmt daytona and the hulk. With that you have all bases covered
I would definitely sell the Nautilus first. Primarily because it would give you the most cash the fastest, but also because I don't like it. I would keep the Daytona, the Hulk, one of the Speedmasters (whichever one you prefer), the Reverso and (maybe) the Aquanaut. I'm not a big fan of the latter either, but if you want to keep at least one Patek, that's the one I'd keep. If you don't care about having a PP in your future collection, then I would keep the GMT Master instead of the Aquanaut.
Sounds reasobable. For me personally, I don't like the Daytona at all. A Speedy 57 is a beauty to keep...then a GMT Master (complication), Seamaster (coaxial movement and it looks sweet) and then I don't know. Reverso for the rectangle and...that would be it. Nautilus is too expensive and Aquanaut too casual (although it may look smashing in person, so perhaps that one.)
Listing all those ref numbers just adds another level of ridiculousness to the weird flex.
Anyone else think Jack looks identical to Penfold? Great Video as always.
I’m glad Jack knows a Master Oogway quote hahaha
Odd, saw one with Houston!
I would have kept the speedy, makes sense to have at least one if you’re going to have a five watch collection
Jack's bringing the burn to the entire city of Chicago! I hope his car doesn't break down anywhere between Toledo and Minneapolis.
Jack is a wise man.
Those 4 plus the Hulk... A diver, a chrono, a GMT, a dress watch and a legend.
OG Kung Fu Panda reference.... Nice
Might I also suggest that the concept of Central Time only exists in the US? Mexico City is a sign that a watch maker isn’t US centric, is a fair guess.
It was the Yeezy "huh" that did it for me....
Keep the Hulk too! Coke, Hulk, Panda, 1931 and 5711.
Desirable pieces
Love the hulk (and the Smurf although not mentiones). I need to win the lottery
My picks would be GMT, Ultraman, Reverso, nautilus, 1957. Next I'll explain what I'll do with my lottery winnings.
The five I will keep is Hulk, Daytona, Ultraman, Geophysics and blue Nautilus.
Coke GMT2, Hulk, Reverso, 5711 and Speedy '57 would be my picks
Keep the Daytona , sell everything else lolzzz. Jack is the very best !!! HE made this video , not the too many high $$$ watches . Not too crazy about figuring out a wealthy guys watch collection for him. Not hating ...just keeping it more real than that
Jack's face at 2:51...
Jack Forster quoting master Oogway....now I have seen everything 😂😂
Jack is a f:n star.😊
I fear how long future omega reference numbers will become
I like these
Vocal fryyyyy baby
I don’t know why these can’t be longer. It’s odd
ThumBS down
for not picking the FIVE
Only watch we need... a simple "time only" Rolex Explorer ... especially when getting over 60 yrs young, no need for a chronograph any longer!
I love GMT's but nobody wears them when they travel.
1st World Problems!!! Who cares !!!!
Nice video mate 😎🏌🏽♂️🥃🇺🇸
love jack with a cardigan but the jack i love more is jack with a bowtie
Why the reference numbers?
Omega needs to chill out with their reference numbers. It was like listening to someone read out their ISP address.
Or my blued custom ss putters ⛳️
I own one omega , a seiko , a longies, and a Hamilton
@William seamaster 300m blue
Bezel silver dial on the rubber strap
@William also just picked up a cool micro brand watch I’m going to unbox and review on my channel, please check it out
@William nice ! It’s an awesome watch. I’d love to have one in another color way too sometime down the road. I recently took mine snorkeling with sea turtles which was cool. About as close as I’ll get to diving with it.
These are never long enough
I NEED MORE
He really quoted Master Oogway lol
And a Partridge in a pear tree
3:23 Jack should just rattle off the reference numbers of the 5 watches worth keeping.
Although i do love Omega, seems like the problem with the company is that they have too much from everything such as too long reference numbers, too many stupid editions for one of the most iconic watch in horology (Moonwatch indeed) and too many models on each collection...
Bad marketing and to be honest their watches don’t look luxury. People don’t find reasons to buy Omega. The only buyers are speedmaster cult followers, which is a very very tiny part of population.
Once again a simple thing made complicated in the first answer ’why Mexico City instead of Chicago’. The real answer is the most simple one. It is supposed to be a ”world timer” watch. So it is supposed to feature cities covering the world widely. And because there are pretty much always at least NY and LA from the US, adding even more US cities would make it unbalanced in that respect.
Or maybe they don't want to be associated with the murder rates in Chicago..?
Then why a lot of watches have Karachi(Pakistan) and Dhaka(Bangladesh) on their dials but not an Indian city?
Sell them all and get Gshock.
Sound advice
Those Omega ref numbers are a bit much lol
The real question is what happened to the Bring a Loupe Column
Keep the aquanaut
I think the Chicagoan ((?); surely a bona-fide city has a nickname for its residents?) should visit the Chilangos in Mexico City ( I'm smug my home city ( OK, if not the city a borough & place) will never dissappear of a watch dial).
keep the aquanaut and sell everything else
We need these episodes to be longer.
Also we are not interested in reference numbers, especially Omega ones for obvious reasons.
Is Talking Watches discontinued?
That opening line was stolen from kung fu panda
Sell them all, then buy one RM.
That collection is more money than personality IMHO.
Looks indeed like a box ticking journey in the watch world.
That’s exactly what I was thinking
‘Coke gmt’
tacos obviously
Tacos over everything 🌮
"I Own Four Rolexes, Three Omegas, Two Pateks, And Two JLC Watches. Which 5 Do I Keep?" - Jack Forster
Wow, what a ridiculous problem to have
Rich people problems.
My problem is trying to add more watches to my collection without my wife slapping me for spending car payment money
Keep the GMT MII and the JLC. With the money, buy the new Speedmaster and invest the rest in the bussiness. You will have a awesome 3 watch collection (with a brand new and very nice Speedy).
Algorithms
Haha probably , should pick up on this for my own channel but I hate doing stuff like that. A few people do it a lot like Bruce Williams will say 101 different brand and models in his video but I do like his stuff a lot it’s just funny because I know what he’s doing
I have so much hate for Omega reference numbers. Even hearing her have to rattle off all of those numbers made me shake my head.
I'm sure to some out there they work.
To be fair they are very precise and very specific to the watch, band, colour, material of the watch. Hard to get your head around though.
Omega and their ridiculous numbering system...
Rolex snobbism at its best as always.
That might be the most predictable and boring watch collection I have ever seen! No wonder he wants to get rid of most of them!
Honestly
The JLC was the only one which got my attention, everything else was indeed predictable and boring
Need to add more watches like the Zanetti Regent Sky a 7k watch that has a wooly mammoth tusk dial. Way more interesting and different. I reviewed one for my channel and would like to pick one up in the future
Dump the Rolex.
