Just ordered 3 of these.the reason the tube only gos ((half way)) in the filter is because it’s drawing from the Top and Bottom at the same time..hence why its central and 🤷the water being draw in at the same amount.plus the diagram on the box it comes in is the wrong way to set it up..from top to bottom COURSE MEDIUM FINE MEDIA ~~~~~~~ MEDIA FINE MEDIUM COURSE It’s a good idea to try and keep it off the substrate so it can draw in from the bottom.a stone 🤷when they arrive I’m sure I can come up with away to put the tube in the bottom but looking 👀 at the dirty filter on here it looks like it’s equally dirty top and bottom.TIP smear some food grade silicon grease around the lid 👌🏻👌🏻
I appreciate this video. I just bought one that is exactly like this and the first thing I thought was why the hell the air wasn’t going through both levels. SO DUMB. Thank you for validating my theory. Returning this ASAP.
You should take your filters completely apart anyway.. and if you wash it in tank water you dont lose any bacteria. The second box obviously getting tons of flow just by seeing the amount of gunk on it...design seems to be working great from just looking at it. Im surprised you didnt swap the gravel for more ceramic rings or lava rock, make that media basket do much better work than just smooth gravel w some rings. The sponge a set up seem cool with the 3 steps of sponge in it, twice. I had never seen the double version of this, just the single.. i have to say im actually gonna try this now, i bet works great on my 29 angel tank in conjunction with my small sponge filter.
Why would you let a small box filter run for two moths without cleaning it ? Why not change the setup around? Where the water is drawn in from top and bottom add some course sponges. Sometimes you need to be creative. The filter itself is fine.
Damn sister, i actually enjoy cleaning my aquariums, and they typically are pretty dirty, thats kinda the point in a filter. Unless you like it when your tank looks like my caca water?
The idea would be that the filter should be easy to clean. Yes the filter cleans the water, but does so in a way that makes the filter harder to clean.

That's exactly how I would do it, and drill some more holes at the bottom with the help of tape so to not crack the cheap plastic.

What if you re organized it?
Starting at the very bottom have course sponge, fine sponge, rings, rings, fine sponge, course sponge?
I wonder if it is meant to be buried under gravel a bit as well.
Maybe you could put a sponge on the top and bottom and have all the bio media in between.
