I think it's a lot better using the default gravels. To turbocharge it you just need to mod it a lil bit By transferring the bubbler into the 2nd to last chamber and closing the holes under. That way you are improving the filtration by a LOOOT.
I though I pimped up my double box filleted by changing the media and two different grade sponges.... but i didnt combine them because i was not sure how the flow of water happened on this thing. This is great if the water all flows in one direction. I thought it also pulled water form the bottom so that the two parts essentially worked independently, but maybe not?
So there are vent holes on the very bottom of the filter... does it pull water up through? If so isn’t that going to go straight into and through the biomedia before being filtered and polished?
I've read that this design does not actually use both chambers, meaning the water doesn't flow through both compartments due to the air line/pipe not extending all the way down to the bottom. Is that true?
Do you think it will work if I place the filters at the bottom chamber and the bio media on top. I want to use one of these for a fry tank and the sponges at the bottom would prevent them from getting sucked up into the filter but I don't know if it will work.
Did you actually study how the water flows in that particular model? The lift tube is unlike many of these box filters it’s only half the length of the box. I hate to be negative about your attempt at hot dogging because I have not made one single video myself. However I have 4 of those box filters and even with an extension on the uplift tube they are now sitting in a rubbish pile.
I had it in a tank with plecos as "added" filtration, it often got flogged with crap on the bottom but did exactly what it was meant to do. Weekly clean out when you do your maintenance and it should be fine. Obviously if your leaving it for weeks without a clean then yes it would sit in rubbish? But if your doing weekly maintenance then it should be fine?
the best filters in the world I would recommend to everyone
Hi Will some nice tips there. I've seen these box filters on Michael's fish room and have always thought about trying one out. Thanks for sharing 🙂
You can pick one up from Amazon for about a tenner. Obviously no substitute for a HOB or canister filter but still does a decent job.

Very cool!
Nice stuff buddy
Cheers mate
Do you have a follow up video?

You are 100% correct Jess. This isn't how you set this up.. All points of entry from water should be mechanical filtration. Do not follow this guide.

GOOD👏😄😊🤗
Subscribed! Cut to shape of box filter media. And add a,"100 Micron Polishing Filter Pad". And you'll have perfect filtration. 😎😤

I dont think the air lift would be powerful enough to suck then in. But you could put filter floss on the top an bottom with bio in the middle
@@HobbyistFishkeeper thanks for the response!
No problem mate
Can I put the Black first before the white sponge filter wool?
Yes if the water will pass through the black first. Thanks for watching.
Is this a bio filter?
I has bio filtration with the rings but the top half is mechanical filtration.

@@HobbyistFishkeeper Would it help if a medium sponge or foam is added at the bottom to filter off the craps from the bio media?
NICE! now how about you turn around and put that bad boy in that disgusting looking tank 🤢
Ooh....! You are very Slow....like a Woman....very long to waching your Video....! Not nice....! 😨😨
