  • 2015 Jeep Wrangler Oil Change
Today, I’m going to show how to change the oil on a 2015 Jeep Wrangler JK with the 3.6 liter V6 engine. Down here I have what we need for today, which is 6 quarts of 5W-20 motor oil. I’m using the AMSOIL full synthetic signature series 5W-20, one-year 25,000 mile oil. Here is the cartridge filter. I ordered this through AMSOIL also. It’s a WIX brand filter. It’s going to be real nice. You’ll see that we change the oil from the top of the engine, so you don’t have to lay underneath and spill a bunch of oil on yourself. For the drain plug it’s a 13 millimeter nut on the drain plug.
So now to get access to the filter on the top, we have to remove the plastic cover that’s over the engine. It’s hinged back here and pops up like this. It’s attached here and here. And then there’s hinges in the back that it pulls off. When you put the cover back on, you want to make sure that you find the 2 sections that fit in there, and that you don’t push on that with the foam. The oil filter is actually right underneath here. This is what the 24 millimeter socket was for. We’ll remove that in a minute. First, I’m gonna drain the oil out of the bottom.
OK, underneath here we have a 13 millimeter, drain plug that I’m just gonna get loosened up there. I’ve got a drain pan here, ready to catch the oil, because it shoots out of there pretty good, so, you gotta be ready for it. I’ll get that out. There we go. Well that’s draining we’ll go back up top and we'll get the oil filter out.
Now, you’ll see when we get this off, when you buy your oil filter, you want to make sure that the replacement O-ring that seals the top, back to the engine, is included in there. We’ll swap that out in a minute. But this is where the 24 millimeter socket goes. Again, this is very nice that Jeep Chrysler put this on top, so you don’t have to spill a bunch of oil on yourself underneath, anymore. So, get this guy off. Keep my rag nearby, so I don’t make a mess on my alternator. There you go. There’s the filter right there. Pay attention to what direction it came out of.
So this snaps in there a little bit, then here’s the O-ring right here that you want to replace with every oil change, at least I do. I’ll get that off and then get the new one put on there.
With the O-ring replaced, I’m gonna go ahead and place the new filter on. I think it’s a good idea, for any surfaces that are mating surfaces, I just get a little oil on there, before I slip it on. Pop that on. There’s a little o-ring right there that seals down inside the engine. It’s good to have a little bit of oil on that guy right there. And then, the O-ring on top, when you’re threading this back in you want that to kind of roll in there smooth, so I like to make sure there’s a little bit of oil on that. And then I double check all those threads to make sure there’s nothing in the threads and that’ll thread in nice and easy. Back down in the hole.
Then we are going to snug that back up, it’s going in nice and smooth because I lubed that. And then take it down so that O-ring is all the way in and it seats a little bit. And that’s a poly top so there we go.
We’re back underneath the Jeep now, and she’s done draining down. Make sure that’s nice and cleaned off. We took the oil drain plug and made sure the tip of that was clean, and the threads were all nice and clean. Put that back in there. Go ahead and snug that up.
The oil fill is on the left side of the engine right here. It lists off the oil you’re supposed to use, 5-20, that’s what we have. I’ve got myself a funnel here, and we’ll fill that up. I’ll invest in a much better funnel for next time. I always keep everything wiped off and clean with a rag, I don’t want to introduce any grit into the engine.
OK, so now that we have all 6 quarts back in the engine, we’ll put the key in, and I’ll pump the gas pedal 3 times, and then I’ll turn it off and that should reset the oil change.
OK, after that, you want to the oil one more time, I started the engine and shut it off. I’ll check that one last final time before putting the cover back on. I just want to say that I’m very pleased with how easy Jeep has made it to change the oil here, it’s very clean and very simple. And just with that 13 millimeter and 24 millimeter socket, you’re able to do this, if I wasn’t videoing, I think I could get this done in about 5 minutes, it’s that fast and that easy. I hope this helps you guys out.

Great video! You covered all the little details and this video will help any DIY be able to save money. For oil disposal, I re-use the original containers to store the waste oil and bring them to an oil change station for recycling.

One last question. Since you are doing the oil change, any concerns about compromising the warranty? Do you keep a log of oil/filter changes to show the service department in the event of the need for warranty work? Thanks.

    • @CSXtrackworker
      @CSXtrackworker 7 років тому +1

Changing your own oil will not void the warranty. If your motor suffers catastrophic failure and they have to tear the motor down, they will immediately be able to tell if you changed your oil or not.

Thank You Jeese, I had a question. We just had a flash flood due to Mattew, and I had to drive through 2-3 ft of standing water, Now, when I drive my 2014 Jk, it's starting to lurch when trying to go into 5 gear, and I hear a popping sound. Could that be from water in my fuel filter. I checked the air filter and it had no debris. i just filled it up just now, and I was going to get some fuel filter cleaner for the gas take to push any possible water out my gas tank. At this point, I am clueless, because it happens when I shift, not all the time, but every now and then. Any advice yo can give I would greatly appreciate it..

Hi Gerald, Do you have an automatic or manual transmission? Does the problem consistently repeat itself under the same conditions? If you have an automatic transmission would be very surprised if the problem was related to the fuel or air filter and would look for something more directly involved with the transmission. Are you still having the problem or has it been resolved? I would like to hear what you discovered the issue to be. Good thing is you are still under the factory warranty so you should be able to have the issue corrected for free. Thanks, Jesse

Are you actually going 25,00 K on your engine oil ?
Doesn't your change engine oil reminder light come on ?
How often do you change the filter ?

    • @jessehull2798

Hi Paul. I follow the oil change as recommended by the engine computer. The first change came up at about one year. I only drive 5,000 miles a year by going to work and back but I like having an oil that says it is rated for 25,000 miles or one year. I change the filter on the same interval as the oil... when my Jeep tells me too.
