5 Little Known Facts About the 1964 Ford Mustang

5 little known facts about the 1964 Ford Mustang
The Mustang is an iconic classic and the 1964 model is one of the most sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. Here are 5 little known facts about the 1964 Mustang:
1. The 1964 Mustang was a huge hit.
On the first day more than 22,000 were sold, and within two years over 1 million Mustangs were on the road. The 1964 is technically a 1964 ½ model as it was a mid-year launch that sold 126,538 units by the time the 1965 models started production in September of 64.
2. The Mustang created a new car class.
When the Ford Mustang was released it became the first of its class of ‘pony cars’. Pony cars are smaller cars with lower price points that are highly stylized to reflect the image of high performance. They were generally marketed for younger people with the Mustang marketed as the “working man’s Thunderbird”.
3. The Mustang was nearly named the Cougar.
Some other names were considered before production including Thunderbird II, Panther, Puma, and Bronco. Thankfully in the end ford settled on Mustang. Later on, Ford released the Mercury Cougar so the name wasn’t a complete waste.
4. Racing is in its blood.
When the prototype was run around the track at the Grand Prix it was only a few seconds off from the time set by the Formula One cars. About a month after its release it was used as the pace car for the Indianapolis 500. It also went on to win several other stock car races from the 1960’s all the way into the 2000’s.
5. The Mustang has been in production for 58 years.
Ford has made many special editions and countless colors and variations, although red and blue have been the two bestselling colors since 1964.
One more little known fact is that 1964 Mustangs have a flat tappet cam which will wear out using modern motor oils. Flat tappet cams need a zinc rich oil additive called ZDDP. To learn more about a premium zinc rich motor oil formulated for your Mustang then like this video and follow the link below.

A motor oil is designed to lubricate the moving parts of an engine and protect them from corrosion and wear. Motor oil also helps carry heat away from engine parts and delivers small debris to the oil filter for removal. A well designed and manufactured synthetic motor oil can add thousands of miles and years of life to your engine. Conventional motor oils are made from crude oil which is refin...

2015 Jeep Wrangler Oil Change Today, I’m going to show how to change the oil on a 2015 Jeep Wrangler JK with the 3.6 liter V6 engine. Down here I have what we need for today, which is 6 quarts of 5W-20 motor oil. I’m using the AMSOIL full synthetic signature series 5W-20, one-year 25,000 mile oil. Here is the cartridge filter. I ordered this through AMSOIL also. It’s a WIX brand filter. It’s go...

Best video out there. Thanks. Was second guessing myself about the o-ring placement. Also did you say the top portion of the housing ‘snaps’ when seated?

PLEASE NOTE The big O ring has a certain place. Many people place it too far up and it WILL leak if placed too high up. You can see correct placement in this video. Thanks
