Wow this is so interesting. We never hear about this side of the business. . As a side man myself who started too late in life. And never got out on a pro level. This guy is my new idol
Earl Slick is such a driving force. Not only in guitar, the studio, but in the reality of work ethic in music and the reality of behind the scenes life as a session player or band member. It was he that said that if you want to make it, quit your day job. You will be forced to become a working musician and GOOD. To me, he's absolutely brilliant and one of the world's understated guitar heroes of our time.
I love Earl even more now, seeing him playing on stage from only a few metres away this year was mind blowing. He is effortlessly cool as fuck, talented beyond description and a sweetheart to boot. His resume of gigs as a sideman is, in my opinion, incomparable. What a compelling story teller he is, oh the memories and stories he must have hidden deep in that head.
Earl, I have loved your guitar work since I was a kid in '75 and bought David Live and listened to it endlessly. Seen you last Saturday here in Montreal when Celebrating David Bowie came to town. I was 20 feet away from you while you played Stay, (one of my all-time favourite Bowie songs). I was fucking blown away. After seeing this interview it's obvious that you are the most down to earth, humble, coolest, smartest and talented musicians there is. You are truly a guitar hero.
Earl Slick is so much more than "only" a mind blowing guitarist: He's such an amazing accompanist - someone who's always ready to create something really great with his vocalist. Something that makes 1+1 become more than 2.
Small bit of additional trivia: Frankie/Earl Slick’s nickname and stage name was coined in Brooklyn on a Thoysday. It might have been Alan Vega who said it.
I really like Earl Slick, for one...the fu**Ing best guitarist name EVER! And it just shows that its all down to quality, not quantity! I have always wanted to play with Earl. Really enjoyed this interview, thank you man! Adam Bana
That guitar on Stay... Mmmmm... Mmmmm... M! I was driving home from the grocery store just a few days ago, a perfect sunny day in L.A... take a wild guess what was turned wide open on the car stereo.
Earl is a great guitarist, love the work with Bowie. But I also came here to see Yoko have a meltdown, I'll just listen to one of her solo albums on Spotify. Same thing. Didn't know that The Meltdown was a musician series until now.
Actually, the original idea of the book turned into a documentary called "Rock ’n’ Roll Guns for Hire: The Story of the Sideman", narrated by Earl Slick himself. A great documentary that I recommend to watch if you haven't watched it yet 😉
This is such a great and valuable interview, but why is it called “Yoko Ono’s Meltdown”? That’s such a stupid and misleading title, it makes the video pretty much impossible to share…
Let's face it, after Low DB was shit in comparison to his genius days. That's why he started putting early stuff in his sets, he had no more decent songs. Is that really a syrup? It's a belter if it is.
Earl is a true rocker and a legend !!

What a brilliant interview. I absolutely love Earl Slick's guitar playing.

Love his work on Station to Station.
Amazing
So honest and humble and can laugh at himself!! So wonderful!
Great interview with Earl SLick !! Thank you!
Such a great modest guy. Great hearing his stories from his career.
Thank you for helping

Great interview , nice on Earl

underrated, great guitarist.

This was so great!! :D
He actually said he loved playing on Yoko's songs in another interview.
Way to go Frank! A nice Italian boy from the Brooklyn area making it big...Earl Slick played with Bowie during the 1974 tour...he was chubby...LOL
Earl is too cool.
What a great interview well done Blam Blam :-)
He's a nice guy.

Cool interview!
Diamond Dogs is my first Bowie album.
He's spot on about the impact of the Beatles, that woman made a silly comment
It was very valid actually
IT'S OK NOT TO LIKE THE BEATLES AS IT'S OK NOT TO LIKE DYLAN, YOUNG OR RADIOHEAD.
Does anyone know the title of the book he's referring to, or where it can be found?
Actually, the original idea of the book turned into a documentary called "Rock ’n’ Roll Guns for Hire: The Story of the Sideman", narrated by Earl Slick himself. A great documentary that I recommend to watch if you haven't watched it yet 😉
Cool Interview but can I ask why this is called "Yoko Ono's Meltdown"?
MELTDOWN IS AN ANNUAL FESTIVAL THAT TAKES PLACE IN LONDON AND EACH YEAR IS CURATED BY A DIFFERENT ARTIST, IN 2013 IT WAS YOKO'S TURN.
How could I watch this with the non synched audio? Answer: I can't

Can anyone here tell me where the Yoko Ono part is on this clip?
at the beginning when he thanks yoko for having him at her event which is called meltdown. I agree it is a very misleading title.
Thank your lucky rock stars, she is NOT in it. A screeching 75 year old woman still riding Lennon's coat tails is somehow not that exciting.
Cool Definitely does not suck!!!
Is it me or does he kinda look like Peter Criss
It is you, for sure!

I was wondering the same thing...
So Scary Monsters album is crap? You talk nonsense
Not at all. This may well be one of the dumbest comments regarding the topic I've ever seen
sun glasses by night? what a freak..
