YUH-JUNG YOUN, STEVEN YEUN AND RIZ AHMED - all my Asian faves getting nominated. With the prospect of Chloé Zhao winning best director and maybe also as an editor or as a producer for best picture just makes all of this better. "The White Tiger" is also nominated for best adapted screenplay. What a year for Asians. 🙏
Also: Christina Oh, producer of ''Minari,'' becomes the first Asian-American woman nominated in Best Picture. And ''Better Days'' from Hong Kong is up for Best International Film.
I cheered for Steven Yeun myself! First East Asian actor in the category, and there's a sense of pride for us, even though I'm Thai it's a breakthrough!
My predictions were a little off. I had ranked them based on how likely they were to make it to this round. *Picture:* 1) NOMADLAND. 2) THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7. 3) PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN. 4) MANK. 5) MINARI. 6) MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM. 7) JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH. 8) SOUND OF METAL. 9) ONE NIGHT IN MIAMI. Other possibilities: BORAT SUBSEQUENT MOVIEFILM, THE FATHER and NEWS OF THE WORLD. A while ago, I also would've said DA 5 BLOODS and SOUL. *Lead Actor:* 1) Chadwick Boseman. 2) Anthony Hopkins. 3) Riz Ahmed. 4) Gary Oldman. 5) Steven Yeun. Are you interested in working in the industry? What of stories about the Asian American experience do you want to tell? Or, like Chloe Zhao, do you want your own personal life to removed from your art?
Overall, I'm happy with the nominations. The Father, Promising and Minari did incredibly great, so well-deserved. YJ and Husavik better get that Oscar!
Just to make sure someone asks all the basic questions: Favorite movie? Favorite TV show? Favorite director? Favorite actor/actress? Favorite documentary? Favorite songs?
The Father for Best Picture? It's a character study but not a Best Picture material. Mads Mickelson should've been nominated instead of Gary Oldman. Snubbed Tenet for score. Lakeith for supporting? Who was the lead in Judas ? It's Maria vs. Youn
Question - I want to try to make movie related videos for YT. I don't have a lot of time, (still in middle school) what are some tips you have for people who want to try to make videos about movies?
David Fincher should win for best director. He's been directing movies for 30 years since 1991 while Chloe Zhao has been directing only for 6 years since 2015. David Fincher has a lot more experiences in directing than Chloe Zhao. Overall David Fincher is a better director than Chloe Zhao
I think what worked against Fincher in preventing his Oscar win was because I think a lot of people was unfairly comparing Mank with his previous work from The Social Network and Benjamin Button rather than comparing the movie with his fellow nominees. There so articles and critic reviews stating that Mank wasn’t Fincher’s best work in comparison to Chloe Zhao, which mainstream media painted her as the next great talent and ingénue in the film industry. It also helped Zhao’s campaigning when Disney hired her as part of the Marvel Universe and campaigned for her Oscar win.
It's great your dad and grandma were nominated.

It's an amazing line up for best picture.

itll be on VOD March 26th. 👍🏼👍🏼
I can’t believe Mank missed the boat on Screenplay.
Q and A - who is the most exciting director working today?
The Father for Best Picture?
It's a character study but not a Best Picture material.
Mads Mickelson should've been nominated instead of Gary Oldman.
Snubbed Tenet for score.
Lakeith for supporting? Who was the lead in Judas ?
It's Maria vs. Youn
If you were the academy, what films are you putting in for best picture?
