Between all the Triangle of Sadness and Risenborough shenanigans, i think the biggest snub that is being undernoted is Top Gun for cinematography, it was literally the most nominated cinematography through awards season, and Tar was a kinda random replacement

Camer Image festival in Poland is the biggest cinematography centric event and it awarded Tàr top prize, this just wasn’t given the attention it should have been. Bardo was second and Living third. Anyway, although Tàr isn’t a colorful movie, and I wasn’t impressed by it overall, its cinematography is still excellent and I prefer it Top Gun’s.

@@Erasureeraser I get that, and I support Women Talking winning over it, but Top Gun? Really?
Also, I hate how people praise Fraser and Chau while trashing Aronofsky and don’t seem to realize how interconnected their work is. Acting nominations are huge credits to the directors (and honestly may be more important than directing nominations, because they make actors want to work with said directors).

@@thrawncaedusl717 Maverick was a far better movie than The Whale in every technical aspect. Directing isn't just about for the actors, it's also about making the film competent, make the film move, on how it was shot and etc, I guess that's what's on the film's most polarizing aspect

    • @thrawncaedusl717
      @thrawncaedusl717 Рік тому +2

@@Erasureeraser I completely disagree, other than the in cockpit stuff (which was an impressive gimmick, but not something I think Kosinski did in a way no other director could have, that is more credit to the production staff), Maverick was shot very standard, with one great emotional scene and the rest just standard filmmaking.
In comparison, Aronofsky managed to make a guy unable to leave his apartment cinematic and encode so much meaning into the space simply through how it was shot. The script was a bit on the nose (but the fact that so many social media warriors still misunderstood the message of “acknowledge the beauty in all people simply because of their humanity” makes me think it was justified being so blunt), but the direction was fantastic at every level.

    • @Erasureeraser
      @Erasureeraser Рік тому +1

@@thrawncaedusl717 Standard filmmaking sure but it's not really that bad either. As whole it's still a fantastic movie and has a great compelling story to tell. And Konsinki himself wasn't even nominated for Best Director so why the hell even comparing him to Aronofsky when both directors weren't even nominated for Best Director. To be completely honest, I haven't seen The Whale but I knew Fraser would be great. I'm just saying this based on the reviews since Maverick was more acclaimed than The Whale

There were a lot of surprises to behold for the Oscar nominations today. It goes to show that nothing is guaranteed and that there are surprises around every corner. Biggest snubs for me personally being Danielle Deadwyler and Viola Davis missing Best Actress, Decision To Leave missing Best International Feature and especially Top Gun Maverick missing Best Cinematography (why though?!). Another surprise is All Quiet not getting in Best Director. And I’m sad that Babylon didn’t get in for Best Picture but seeing Top Gun Maverick get in for Best Picture made me pretty happy and made up for Babylon not being in Best Picture.
I’m so freaking happy that the Oscars didn’t snub Justin Hurwitz for Best Original Score for Babylon!! He better win this for sure!! (If he wins the BAFTA it’s all over and we’ll see Justin get on stage for the third time with a win!! Should’ve been his fourth honestly.) And also Justin is the only one of the five score nominees who has all the nomination precursors in Golden Globes, Critics Choice, and BAFTA.
Seeing Top Gun Maverick being snubbed for Best Cinematography is probably the worst technical Oscar snub since Justin Hurwitz’s First Man score got snubbed for Best Original Score four years ago.

Andrea Riseborough happened. DIY campaigns are certainly nothing new. Sally Kirkland did one back in 1988 that led to her Oscars nomination for "Anna", but even for that performance she won the Golden Globes and Spirit Awards so she was already in the conversation. So yes, Riseborough's nomination was a long shot, but a welcomed surprise. As fas as Ana de Armas for "Blonde", that felt expected despite the film itself being so divisive. Danielle Deadwyler not being nominated is a shame. Finally, "Top Gun: Maverick" not being nominated for Cinematography makes absolutely no sense. I mean, they filmed that one most of time while upset down in jets.

It’s all about the campaign. Andrea Riseborough’s desperately campaigned for it. Her last month cleverly coordinated non stop celebrities campaign on twitter and social media boost earned her a nomination. They actually had to ask everyone in the industry to gather more than 200 signatures petition to vote for her (allegedly). It is not an illegal thing to do but It’s not good either for the industry in my opinion. It is unfairly done but they obviously allowed it to happen for a reason. Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett actually campaigned for her? which is I find it unusuaI feel bad for Viola Davis and Danielle Deadwyler who really deserve to get a nomination. I had seen the movie “To Leslie” she was actually good in it but the movie was profoundly depressing to watch.

Here are the 2023 lists of Academy Award nominees of 2022 that I hope they’d won (even though I never saw The Fabelmans nor Everything Everywhere All At Once), but they’re all great, fantastic movies. They don’t need an Oscar. The Oscars needs them. Awards are overrated anyway. But anyway, here they are.
    BEST PICTURE:
Everything Everywhere All At Once - Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, and Jonathan Wang, producers
(Even though I never saw that movie though, but I think it deserved that win though. I really want either Avatar: The Way of Water, Elvis, or maybe even Top Gun: Maverick to win Best Picture too, because they’re all such great movies. If Top Gun: Maverick wins for Best Picture, then that means that Tom Cruise will finally win an Oscar for producing the film!)
    BEST DIRECTOR:
Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert - Everything Everywhere All at Once
    or
    Steven Spielberg - The Fabelmans
    BEST ACTOR:
Austin Butler - Elvis as Elvis Presley
    BEST ACTRESS:
Michelle Yeoh - Everything Everywhere All at Once as Evelyn Wang
    BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR:
Ke Huy Quan - Everything Everywhere All at Once as Waymond Wang
    BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS:
Angela Bassett - Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as Queen Ramonda
    BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY:
Everything Everywhere All at Once - Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert
    or
The Fabelmans - Steven Spielberg and Tony Kushner
    BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAYS:
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery - Rian Johnson; based on characters created by Johnson and the film Knives Out
    or
Top Gun: Maverick - Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie; based on the film Top Gun written by Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr.
    BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM:
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio - Guillermo del Toro, Mark Gustafson, Gary Ungar and Alex Bulkley
    BEST ORIGINAL SCORE:
    Babylon - Justin Hurwitz
    BEST ORIGINAL SONG:
"Hold My Hand" from Top Gun: Maverick - music and lyrics by Lady Gaga and BloodPop
    BEST SOUND:
Top Gun: Maverick - Mark Weingarten, James H. Mather, Al Nelson, Chris Burdon and Mark Taylor
    BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN:
Avatar: The Way of Water - Production Design: Dylan Cole and Ben Procter; Set Decoration: Vanessa Cole
    BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY:
    Elvis - Mandy Walker
    BEST HAIRSTYLING & MAKEUP 💄:
The Batman - Naomi Donne, Mike Marino and Mike Fontaine
    BEST COSTUME DESIGN:
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - Ruth Carter
    BEST FILM EDITING:
Elvis - Matt Villa and Jonathan Redmond
    or
