Black, white and pink sounds great, in your ski jumper. I love a good wool or cashmere Fair Isle style sweater. I just got the most beautiful Fair Isle style cardigan from Doen, in black wool with lighter neutrals (pricey, though). I also have a couple of beautiful cashmere ones. For autumn, I also like L.L. Bean’s cotton Fair Isle jumpers/sweaters. I keep these Heritage style sweaters forever.
I can’t wait to see your three piece suit, Michelle! I love three-piece suits and used to wear them when I worked in an office. I love the older Ralph Lauren style. I were jumpers as a child. In the US a jumper is generally a skirt with an attached bib or suspenders worn over a blouse or sweater. Thank you for reminding us to speak up when we appreciate how someone is dressed or something about them that’s intriguing or attractive. I’ve done this my entire life and even women that are very attractive are so taken back and appreciative! It’s so fun AND I’ve made friends doing this!😆❤
@mamalovesthebeach437 Neither can I am so excited haha! I never knew that was what a jumper was in the US that is new to me! thank you. So that is dungarees or a dungaree dress here haha. Ah I love just telling someone that I appreciate what they are wearing etc. It costs nothing and when someone does it to you you do not forget do you? I am glad you always do this too Yay!
Thank you for this video, Michelle! Always interesting to see new styles and how to interpret them to my wardrobe… I didn’t know kilts were back but a few days ago I’ve bought a vintage kilt from Scottish tartan tweed on Etsy and really looking forward to see how it turns out. I also love knee-length boots and ski sweaters. I also had wrap pants about 10 yrs ago and loved them. They are easy to wear.
@kriswhitcomb25 Ah that is amazing! It might be a little itchy particularly if it is in Harris Tweed so you might need tights with it, but it will be excellent quality!. Let me know how you get on.
I’m glad to see florals come back and already ordered a turtleneck in it. I have to be careful with chunky knits as I’m a plus size gal but also just ordered a lighter weight cable knit sweater. Hoping it will be a tiny bit tailored rather than baggy. I pulled 2 baggy sweaters out of the closet to donate.
@Windswept-q9i Ah well done it sounds like you are making fantastic progress. It always better to shop from your closet where possible then just add in the odd piece.
Thanks for the video Great ideas My favourites were the two black outfits and the tweed one at the end Seem to wear more black for work these days Ski jumpers look nice but I haven’t got any. Love chunky jumpers also You look nice in the florals but not for me gone plainer these days Wear a lot of navy aswell Have a lovely day also
Hi Michelle. What I really would like to learn more about is how to add accessories to my wardrobe. What to try to replicate etc. And how to make new outfits from my closet. How to create new looks and not just continue with the styles I already created. But I'm lacking imagination.... Thanks a lot. Have a nice week. Best regards from Denmark. Hanne
@HanneUlm-dn4ce Thank you for the feedback. I think the idea of creating new looks is a great one I will add this to my list. @seasaltysam6944 I love a kilt. Check out 20th Century Kilts. They are expensive but worth it! Fringing was in recently but not so much for winter. However i always say if you like it wear it!
I agree, my cat’s fluff is enough for me. Many of these fluffy sweaters shed fibers that get in my eyes, annoyingly, but they’re colorless so it’s hard to get them out. Also, the fabrics tend to be blends with synthetics, like Sezane makes so many of, and I can’t tolerate synthetics. Not only do I have skin allergies to plastics, I overheat within minutes, and sweat, which I loathe. Yesterday I wore Merino trousers and a Merino sweater over my usual silk jersey under-tee (ski underwear), a very typical winter outfit for me. I was warm as toast, but didn’t sweat, overheat or itch, nor did I get any skin irritation as I do with synthetics. I think part of the problem is that synthetic fibers are extruded as triangular-shaped filaments, which have very sharp edges, they literally make micro-cuts all over the skin. Natural fibers are softly rounded filaments, so they’re much softer and gentler. Natural-fiber fabrics and materials (like genuine leather and suede) for ever!
Pleased to say I have all of these items already, Michelle. ( I'm Aussie, and unless you live in NT, or far North Queensland, you can certainly wear knits). I bought wrap pants two years ago. Love them. ' Karen Brit Chick' actually designed a great pair, last year, as part of her collection. I'm with you, about 'oversize', too. Overrated, more like it. Great content. TY
Thank you for the helpful video! I love that you address different body types and ages. I do have a question about the fair isle jumper trend. What do you think about this for petites? I am worried that the horizontal design around the shoulder/chest area will cut across my frame in a way that makes me appear shorter, but since the designs often dip lower around the center of the chest (rather than cut straight across) perhaps this isn't the case? I would love your thoughts! 😊
@srsummerson I think the fairisle is fine for petites, particularly if the colours are quite blended which they often are for example brown beige and ivory rather than black white and red which would have more contrast and like you say it is often just around the neck, or in the case of a tank top like mine, you have the arms free. I would go for it there are some lovely styles around this season. If you click on the links in the notes you'll see lots of suggestions.
Personally I don't like many of these as if you are shorter and older they look frumpy and make you look older. Don't like floral or chunky knits makes you look bigger and never argile love a suit the wrap pants are cool but need to be tall and thin.Never doing fluffy I love your videos 🎉
@deniseyounger6004 That is absolutely fine if they are not for you. I think they can look older but honestly think it is about how you wear anything rather than what you wear. I am glad you enjoy them.
If you are short, you can still be stylish. Wear small prints and get pants tailored. There are knits to suit everyone. You can look "frumpy" at any age, if you don't dress to suit your body shape...
Ten years ago everyone said “get rid of your knee-high boots, they’re so out of style”. I laughed, it took me decades to build up my collection of quality leather/suede knee-high boots and I’ll never part with them! They are so classic and are essential for this nearly-daily skirt or dress wearer. I knew the skinny jeans, long tunic and ankle-boots look wouldn’t last forever. This particular look did last longer than most, though, surprisingly. Many of my fellow American women of my age range, 60s, just won’t give up those hideous tunic tops. They’re not only out of style, they’re so unflattering and frumpy.
@KimberlyPerrotis Yes I still have them too. I think trends like that are just about you buying more where as I say those old staples work great and just drop in the odd update when it works.
While trends come and go, elegance doesn’t go. Style doesn’t go. Some staples don’t go. So I would personally like to hear conversations from the POV of combining these staples plus a few things to bring them up to what’s current, e.g., “take this staple and make it fit this season’s vibe by adding ________,” “swap out last year’s _____ scarf with this year’s _____ scarf.” 11:26
I love my Stuart Weitzmann thigh-high boots, that’s what I wear with my short skirts, with matching tights, to keep me warm in winter. At age 64, I still wear short skirts, I think it’s not about age, it’s about what one’s legs look like. Thanks to the DNA from my fabulous-legged two grandmas, my slim, long legs still look great. I see many overweight chonky-legged Americans teens who just shouldn’t wear them, despite their youth. I love skirts of all lengths, but I’m not going through to stop wearing above-knee ones because of someone else’s idea of age-appropriateness. After all, I was criticized for wearing them at age 20, by some old relative who didn’t realize they were the latest trend c. 1980s. This same critic told me I was too old to wear a ponytail! I never criticized her old-lady polyester double-knit, elastic trouser and matching long top set.
I don’t think those wrap trousers would be flattering, the line is similar to that of dropped-crotch harem trousers. It makes the torso look endless, so it visually shortens the legs. It’s much more flattering to be able to see the leg break (ok, crotch) area.
Hi everyone, I hope you enjoy this video. As with any trend pick and choose what you like and leave what you don't. If you are editing your wardrobe download my free capsule wardrobe guide. capsuleclosetstylist.com/free/. Shout if you have any questions 😊
Love your pattern mixing!
I own two „wrap trousers“ for a long time already. In fact they tend to hide a bit of a tummy if they are well fitted. Like them.
@Mabel461 Oh that is good to know. I am glad you like them. Thank you for the comment.

@KimberlyPerrotis It really was I was gutted when I shrank it! Yes this is what I like about the trends this year they are largely timeless.

@alyonavantiggelen3906 Yu might want to wear tights with the kilt if it is Harris Tweed as it can be quite itchy. Itll look fabulous though
Love love love tweed, so glad it’s on trend
@stellacollins3114 Me too I love it!
I just picked up my grandmother's kilt (it was from Scotland) -I"m inspired to try :) styling how you suggested!

@joannagooney8342 I think you have the right idea here, just pick and choose what works for you and don't try and shape yourself into any trend 😊
I had the wrap trousers in the 1980’s they were very popular then, they were really nice to wear
@stellacollins3114 Ah interesting. Were they exactly the same? I know there was the Thai fisherman style, but I don't remember them in the 80's.

Love all the styles ! I intuitively have got a current crush on all black and kilts! What about fringing - is that on trend?
@seasaltysam6944 I love a kilt. Check out 20th Century Kilts. They are expensive but worth it! Fringing was in recently but not so much for winter. However i always say if you like it wear it!
Great. I already have a floral wool dress, chunky knits, ski knits, and obviously black. A wool coat is on my wish list.
@ruthmalcolm3028 I love it when that happens. The same here I had a lot of this years trends in my wardrobe.

@KimberlyPerrotisn Yes, exactly, those plastic-based fibres cause havoc for the environment and us!

@bernitajenkins7581 Ah thank you for the feedback. I love all of the knits that are in this season. Urgh yes the oversized thing is awful!
