I'm 60 years young and embraced my natural grey/white hair. I have zero regrets, and I've had strangers coming up to me and complimenting me on my hair. Thank you for all these wonderful tips on matching color with our guy hair. Cheers from 🇨🇦
Loved this video! I went gray in my early 50s because I got sick of the monthly expense (& chemicals) to keep my hair colored. My mother grayed early, & eventually to lovely/ striking white. Beautiful silver kept peeking through for me & I wanted to finally feel authentic. One relative told me: “You can’t possibly go gray - you have teenage daughters & you’ll look old!” I said screw that! I’ve never looked back & love my short, spikey cut. I have noticed, however that black sometimes looks a bit harsh now & I gravitate toward charcoal & navy. When I was dark brunette (pale blue eyes, cool skin undertones) I was a winter palette, now I’m wandering into some lighter cool tones. It’s fun to continually evolve in both fashion & life. Aging - & the wisdom it brings - is a gift!
Absolutely I could not agree more. Like I said in the video grey can look fantastic. Well done to you for doing what YOU wanted and what felt right. Have you had a colour analysis to work out the colours?
I have in the past - when I was dark brunette. I’m a hybrid now - some pastels look great (blues) & some wash me out. If the pastel has a lot of white in it (icy shades) as opposed to warmer undertones then it makes my face/ complexion come alive. But I can still rock cobalt, navy, blue-based red, fuschia, deep purple, etc. So I’m a hybrid!🤣 And I’ll keep playing w/ colors.
I agree with others that it would be so helpful to see various people with the colors and tones that work best for them, with also demonstrating how the warm and cool colors do or don’t work on them!
Hi Holly thank you for your comments. It is tricky to do this as you have to get people to agree to be on camera. I am however working on this because I agree it would work better.
Seventy-five and at the sewing machine working on re-inventing myself in white hair and dark moss green eyes (they used to be a varigated green, but oh well) whlle watching your UA-cam. From dark brown hair to white . Your shows are really helpful. Never actually had to worry about this before. Thank you!
My gray is mixed with golden blonde and reddish blonde. Giving the overall effect of silver and gold, when it shines in the sun. I’m loving it. Best thing I ever did was quit coloring my hair.
Can you please do a video on how to tastefully accentuate one’s eyebrows when greying and/or having lost the outer third (hypothyroidism so common at this stage of life). Something on how to choose glasses that best flatter a woman of a certain age would also be great
Hello thank you for your comment. I have never really worked with hair and make up but I know someone who does. So a friend of mine runs Donna May London. If you look her up she has lots of make up tips. However thank you for the suggestions regarding glasses that is a great idea and I will keep it in mind
What a wonderful collection of excellent advice! I'm transitioning from an intense dark auburn to white and worried about the cool color as I'm an autumn, so your recommendations make so much sense and just what I needed to hear. Thanks!
Hi Michelle, thanks for this video. I am (almost) 69, have had short grey hair for about 20 years, and on the odd occasion when I have coloured my hair, I haven't liked it. I like the variation of tones in my naturally grey hair. As for clothes, I love bright colours, and I have a dress pattern for an A-line style of dress that I wear long. I have made 15 of them so far, buying duvets, curtains and napery from charity shops, and having lots of fun creating new features with each dress. I have Star Wars, Batman and Bratz Doll designs, and always get comments and laughs (mostly laughing WITH me!) - I think clothing should be fun, as well as comfortable. Maybe one day I'll grow up, but I so love being playful and not worrying about what people think - or what the rules might be! And as a PS to some people who have complained about being invisible - I used to say to my mother: "Well, be HEARD then!" Taking an interest in the people who are ignoring you, asking how they are, and just being cheerful, is a very quick way to get visible.
All of the other you tube videos I’ve seen on this subject assume that going grey means that your coloring is getting cooler and softer. When I grew out my gray, it came in as a very bright warm cream (from a dark brown). So happy to hear you discuss that not all gray is cool!
No it isn’t. The problem is that people get placed in very simple predefined boxes and most of us don’t fit in them! I’m glad you found it helpful. Shout if you need my help.
Navy blue was NOT my neutral ages ago with SPRING, pale and golden almost stawberry hair. I was one of the people that was color profiled for the Original Color Me Beautiful book. Navy looks great now! Also black and white for my platinum hair works well now you would think that would be a Winter. I still wear silver and gold.
Hello thank you for your comment. Yes your palette has likely changed. I honestly beleive that most of the standard colour palettes do not work for most people. Get in touch if you need any help and keep experimenting.
I much prefer my grey hair to the previous natural drab brown. Years ago I had a colour analysis done and was typed as an "early autumn," but find that the earth tones don't work for me anymore. Strangely enough, black was given as one of my neutrals, and I still have that as one of my wardrobe staples along with peach (my skin tone) and teal (my "high" shade). My colour analyst also said I could use "all the metals," which is great because -- surprise! -- I am leaning a lot more towards the white metals! A few years ago, I purchased an outfit in burgundy, and whenever I wear it, I always get compliments.
I’m a hairdresser, I had a lot of negative feedback when I started growing out my color. Now, I’ve never gotten more compliments. Even from the people that said don’t do it! 😂
When I suggested letting my greys grow through my hairdresser was kind of against it (and she wasn't dyeing my hair so it wasn't that she's lose business). Then lockdown happened and I couldn't see her for ages as I grew my hair out and when I finally could book in an appointment to have my hair cut and she saw my natural silver/white hair she absolutely loved it and I ended up going for a much shorter cut than I had originally intended because the more dyed browny orangey hair she cut off the better my natural hair was looking and I couldn't wait to get rid of the dyed hair. Despite being one of the youngest of my friends, I was the first one to stop dyeing my hair. When it was half and half they weren't overly keen and I knew they thought I was mad as it looked awful, but as soon as I had all of the dyed orangey hair cut off they loved it and a few of them are now thinking of doing it themselves. I'm 61 and the thought of putting chemicals on my head every 3 weeks for the next 20 years was just not something I wanted to do. I love my natural god given highlights which would cost an absolute fortune if I was paying to have them done. I'm so glad I embraced the transition and I absolutely love the sense of freedom it gives you to just be your own true self and grow old gracefully. I see people my own age who are still dyeing their hair and IMO it doesn't look great because you can't turn back the clock and when your hair doesn't match your face in terms of age, it doesn't fool anyone and doesn't make you look younger.
Just now, at 75, at that place where I will clearly have to redo my wardrobe. My hair is still settling into whatever version of grey/white it's going to settle on, but I know that I will have to look at revamping my wardrobe, soon. I will be watching this a few times as I go through the process. Thank you.
@@GailDrinkard-yw1sc I’m turned 72 in June. I live in Australia. I started going grey about 5 years ago. I love it, after having my hair coloured for over 40 years. My hairdresser eased me into it gradually and now my face and eyes look so much brighter and I get so many positive compliments.
Your video explained a lot to me. But, alas, I am not good with color. I need to learn more. Could you please add more photos? Thank you so much for discussing this subject.
This was a very informative video. So much content in one video! You covered everything that is needed to build a positive beautiful wardrobe. Thank you❤
Several of us in my family maintained our hair color throughout our 60s. I am almost 70 and my natural auburn hair has a little gray patch. Looking forward to this change.
@@capsuleclosetstylist Pretty much. I'm about 1/3 grown out with brown dyed hair lightened to not look so weird. Pretty shocking to me at this stage. Will probably still be till next year till it's all my own color. I'm a warm autumn so clothes are confusing and I've been swayed to cooler shades because of the hair, which has made the contrast with my skin color worse. So this video was so helpful.
I ve had grey hair since I was 30. I am 68 now. There has not been a day when women would ask me how I could accept my grey hair or others trying to convince me to colour them. I have always felt confident with my grey hair and I am happy to see that women feel the same now . Yes it is important to wear the right clothes the right coulours and have the right attitude to avoid looking old.
Thanks for this video! Encouraging and instructive! I went grey in my early 50's and never looked back. I've always been a cool winter but agree it's important to tone down a bit. I have bright blue eyes and platinum hair. Yes to choosing colors you gravitate toward! Thanks again!
Fantastic video!! I'm 60 and have had silver hair for about 6 years. They are so beautiful that even 2 of my dear friends decided to embrace their natural color. A hug 🌸
For me I was a classic winter with no warm colors at all. Since going gray the summer palette is much better with the exception of black and white. Still no warm color look good.
I've enjoyed this video with how you've explained the colour combos. I would love to see actual models with the clothes colours, eg 3 colour basics, then introducing an extra added one- whije You're doing the descriptions !😂🎉
Hi really enjoyed your video. I was only just thinking about everything you discussed. I’m 61yo l am quite silver now use be dark brown. lm glad your doing these videos as lm basically wearing navy all time but l had noticed it’s a bit dark, so l thought maybe l need to get my winter colours in their softer hues. I quite like the summer palette too now. I’m big believer in solid basics but even my style has altered and lm looking for softer more flowing outfits. Thanks again. Kym😊
Hi Kym thank you for your message. Yes it can have a big effect on your overall look. Generally softening the colours can have a decent impact. Have you had your colours done since you embraced the grey?
@@capsuleclosetstylist hi no lm pretty intuitive and can see what suits me. As l mentioned lm leaning towards summer colours, dusty pink, lilac and even green. I did hv my colours done 40 years ago and it was winter.
I colored my dark brown hair for decades and finally decided to embrace going grey at age 60. After a year or so, it's all grown out and looks great but now it seems like my natural hair is getting darker again!
I’m caught between letting go of the foils and embracing salt and pepper hair. Pinterest is my savior. I have a huge board on my newly minted retirement style and I’m loving my wardrobe, which I’ve recently overhauled.
So true. I went grey (easy to do with short hair) after I retired 6 years ago. My grey is strange. It is predominantly white and pewter with warm here and there from the natural hair still in it (I was always golden blonde as a kid and my hair darkened to dirty blonde and then a dark golden brown before I greyed). I find some autumn colors work on me as well as a few spring. Some winter does as well. I fall into summer with my skin and eyes and lean towards more muted and true colors. Darks don’t really do me any favors except black - which I use with white and tan as my main neutrals. I have a difficult time with browns that look good on me. 😬 But I agree wholeheartedly with this video. As we age our hair and skin really makes a difference in the colors we wear. And I love color. 🥰❤ And no, I’ve never had an analysis. I just go with what makes me feel good and look good. Maybe I should have my colors done? 🤔
Yes this is why even if you are not grey some colour analysis colour palettes do not work (in my humble opinion). In the last week I have worked with three ladies (one of which was grey) and none of them fell into the standard colour analysis palettes. I had to swap a few colours in and out for all of them. To be honest if you look around you in a crowded street it is hard to se how all of those people can fit perfectly into 12 categories perfectly. Most people are a combination of cool and warm leaning towards one side or the other. If you have gone grey, it usually means you go a little cooler, but not always. If you want to chat about it more, book in for a call I would be happy to talk you through it 😊. calendly.com/capsuleclosetstylist/free-consultation
@@capsuleclosetstylist oh how wonderful! Let me check to see what is a good day for me. I am in process of selling my house so majority of stuff is packed up, but plenty left in closet to give a picture of my likes. When we move, I would love to do an extended paid consult with you. ❤
I retired from teaching 7 years ago and went from dark brunette to stark white!! Since then, I have purged my wardrobe and find I look better with this hair color than before. I find black tops are better on me now; the contrast looks good. It never looked right as a brunette. I love black but it isn't in my neutral cool summer pallette. I can't break up with black... My favorite colors are in the blue/aqua family but I often default to black. Navy blue and gray are new in my wardrobe (both go well with blue) My problem is hairstyle. I like the photos in your examples. Any chance you could show specific styles for those of us with white hair?
Hello thank you for your comment. I have never worked with hair only clothes. However I suggest you check out Donna May London she is a friend of mine and has lots of content similar to mine but in relation to hair and make up. It is very likely that the colour palette for clothes you had as a brunette is not the same as it would be now. Have you had a colour analysis since turning white?
Could you do some fashion advice for big bust i am 5 2 & 64 kg so struggle to find a top , i cant wear big tops as i feel like im pregnant, my legs are short with a long body. Im 60 & got a menopause tummy now although not to bad as i work out at pump class & walk alot. I tend to wear black tops to cover my breast & a bit fed up. Thank you.

@GreteCecilieBolstad Thank you for your comment. It is tricky to say without seeing you, but as I do not know if you are warm or cool based. I was a red head, after cancer my scalp can no longer handle hair dye. I have now gone grey and find autumn looks "meh" on me. I have also lost weight , retired, turned 60 so with all of that I need a new wardrobe. I have started to notice only bright colors look good on me. I am so fair skinned, light blue eyes - I never could wear white but I used to love black, grey and beige. Now they wash me out! Can you stay classy and sophisticated wearing bright colors?
@sharonpiraino5290 Absolutely!! I think if you have found bright colours that work for you that is half the battle because they will feel better on you. I allowed my hair to go silver during Covid and am now wondering how to wear colors with my what I think is a neutral olive skin tone and silver hair. Pls let me known what I can do to contact you for color guidance/analysis. I was originally a winter when I had brown hair but am pretty sure that is not necessarily the case now. Thx for your time and response:)

Oh Janet bless you I am sure that is not true ❤️. I had a lady on here tell me my hair looks like an old horses tail yesterday if that makes you feel a little better 😂
@@capsuleclosetstylist I've only very recently stopped dyeing my hair after many many years, and this video is just what I need. I actually think the models are way too 'perfect' and clearly have been digitally enhanced. I understand it is perhaps easier to use them as examples of the different 'types' but maybe try to use more realistic models? Your hair is definitely not like an old horse's tail, it's absolutely fabulous!
Hi Julia, Thank you. I am subscribed to adobe to have the rights to use different images and as a result am limited as to what I can use. I do however take this on board.
I am a winter and when I was younger, warm tones made me look 10 years older. Now at 59 I find I can wear cream as well as white, as my hair is now mid-grey.
I totally agree that gray hair does not put you in the same category as "the old gray mare" if you enhance your colors, style, shape etc. The only thing I've noticed is that, while the gray-haired ladies you feature look stunning in the clothes they're wearing, NONE of them have wrinkles! I think that (and perhaps I'm wrong) most women have some wrinkles, laugh lines etc. and I'd really like to see some of them pictured in their colors as well as the women with flawless skin. Do the wrinkles make a difference in how good they can look? Thanks!
Hi Joyce I agree with you. So I do not chose them on purpose. I am subscribed to an adobe platform that means I can choose images to use without getting sued, in other words i have the right to use them as I see fit. Unfortunately these are the ones that are available. To buy them individually is very costly when you are putting a service out for free. That said I will note this and try and source more realistic images in future.
My hair is greying and I am adding a copper cellophane to the top. I like the look but am unsure if the colors that were recommended for me 40 years ago really work for me now. I am interested in learning about your color consultation online. Please advise. Thank you.

Many of us do not have grey hair !!! It is a gorgeous, brilliant silver !!! Stop referring to it as grey!!! MG Our hair has probably never been this beautiful and stunning!!! Much better than brown, etc.etc
Hi Rebecca I agree with you though when titling a video if I put it as grey I am not sure so many people would have found it! I am glad you are enjoying your silver hair 😊
Hair appointments are out of control plus tips. It’s robbery. I don’t color anymore . Haven’t been to a salon for a year. My hair has never been healthier. No one blow drys, uses hot tools, hair sprays, over does products so I’ll buy some and leaves me sit while they work on another client. Nope, I’m surprised how happy I am now.
I don't think I could ever go gray. My eyes are dark golden brown, my skin is fair warm beige. I keep my hair colored with golden brown so I can wear my warm browns, mossy greens, rust and tomato red.
Dark brown eyes, pale warm skin tone, whitish silver hair - love my newish hair color - cannot wear really dark brown, still can wear all olives, mosses, khakis, navy, greys, & VIOLET & purples. You may be pleasantly surprised.
@Cyrusmagi The colours I am wearing work for me, but more importantly, they are colours I like. The beauty of choosing a wardrobe you love is that you can choose the colours you like. I would also like to make you aware that I promote kindness on my channel.
It would be interesting to see some vlogs: what you eat, how you keep fit, how you lift your spirits when you're sad or tired, what you like to do...discover a little about your lifestyle. Thank you 🦋 Feedback Ricerche correlate Traduttore italiano inglese perfetto gratis
Hi Beth, it is a complicated subject which is hard to cover in one video. This is mainly because the standard colour palettes that were drawn up in the 80’s did not include grey hair, nor did the updates. What did you find confusing?
I like your knowledgeable advice…but Please, for goodness sakes, use age-appropriate, real women as models!!! Using perfectly made up women clearly under 60 really turns me off and affects your credibility.
@suziviolet thank you for your comment. I have addressed this several times. So I used a few images to better demonstrate colour as I pay for a service that provides me images that I can legally use. Unfortunately I had to use some younger images to best demonstrate colour in hair particularly as there were not alternatives available. I take on board this criticism and have tried to adapt in later videos, but in this particular one it was hard to visually show what I was explaining without using them as what was available was limited.
Usually I only comment when I have something positive, but I am struck by the contrast between your excellent advice on this subject and your own image here….dull, not flattered by the lightblue you’re wearing, etc. Hard to take advice from someone who doesn’t appear to use it herself.
Hi Kathie, Thank you for your comment. All the colours I wear work for me and I know that from having worked with clothing and colour for 25 years. Can I ask what experience you have? If you can see I have pale blue (occasionally grey ish) eyes which means pale blue is one of the BEST colours for me. If you book in for a consultation with me I am happy to help you with your colours. In addition, I agree if you don't have anything kind to say then don't comment at all.
I had the same thought. Maybe there is something off in the video's white balance. Seems like everything is either yellow (hair, chair ) or grey/pink (skin+clothes)
Hello again Marion, for somebody who does not like my video you have spent a lot of time on negative things to say! I will be watching this a few times as I go through the process. Thank you.
You are very welcome. Take time with it, see it as something exciting and a new chapter 😊
Hello from America. I am 72 years old and have started turning gray. Looking forward to this journey with you.
Hello Gail Thank you for your comment. I am glad you are finding it helpful.
Hi Rosella, I honestly think grey hair can look stunning so I can imagine it does look great! 😊
Your video explained a lot to me. But, alas, I am not good with color. I need to learn more. Could you please add more photos? Thank you so much for discussing this subject.
Hi Nancy, Thank you for the feedback. I can not add more photos as it would mean doing the video again, however, I can revisit this and add more info.
Some helpful tips here. My dark Autumn colors are not working well now that my hair is a creamy white.
@Anita-silver Yes it can make a big difference to your overall appearnce when you embrace the grey.
This was a very informative video. So much content in one video! You covered everything that is needed to build a positive beautiful wardrobe. Thank you❤
@annestaten5914 I am so glad you found it helpful Anne thank you for the feedback.
Several of us in my family maintained our hair color throughout our 60s. I am almost 70 and my natural auburn hair has a little gray patch. Looking forward to this change.
Hi Nancy, thank you for taking the time to comment. Yes! embrace it 😊
Thank you very much! I loved all the excellent advises you have given us!
Hi Fatima, thank you for the feedback I am glad you found it helpful.
Wonderful video! I'm new to you and so glad to find you. Struggling with my new gray hair and this is so helpful. Thanks so much!
Ah thank you I am glad you found it helpful. Have you gone completely grey?
@@capsuleclosetstylist Pretty much. I'm about 1/3 grown out with brown dyed hair lightened to not look so weird. Pretty shocking to me at this stage. Will probably still be till next year till it's all my own color. I'm a warm autumn so clothes are confusing and I've been swayed to cooler shades because of the hair, which has made the contrast with my skin color worse. So this video was so helpful.
Ok well when you are there let me know if you need any further help with the colour
I had an auntie that did this too from her 30's I always thought she looked fabulous
Thanks for this video! Encouraging and instructive! I went grey in my early 50's and never looked back. I've always been a cool winter but agree it's important to tone down a bit. I have bright blue eyes and platinum hair. Yes to choosing colors you gravitate toward! Thanks again!
You are very welcome I’m glad you found it helpful. Have you had your colours done since you embraced the grey?
@@capsuleclosetstylist no, but I gravitate toward cool colors like grey, icy blue, black, white, navy, red, and tan/khaki.
Instincts is always a good place to start. Let me know if you ever need my help.
@@capsuleclosetstylist thank you very much!
you are welcome
Fantastic video!! I'm 60 and have had silver hair for about 6 years. They are so beautiful that even 2 of my dear friends decided to embrace their natural color. A hug 🌸

I totally agree! Thank you for your kind words
For me I was a classic winter with no warm colors at all. Since going gray the summer palette is much better with the exception of black and white. Still no warm color look good.
@marykuettner752 Yes, it can change significantly. I am glad you have been able to adapt, though.
I've enjoyed this video with how you've explained the colour combos. I would love to see actual models with the clothes colours, eg 3 colour basics, then introducing an extra added one- whije You're doing the descriptions !😂🎉
Thank you for the feedback I will bear this in mind in the future
New to this channel 😊 love your style and you really know your stuff. Will be looking forward to seeing more of you
Hi Stella thank you for the feedback it is much appreciated.
I found this to be a very realistically helpful guide. Thank you so much for sharing.
You're very welcome! Have you decided to embrace the grey?
It sounds as if you have it nailed. 😊
I colored my dark brown hair for decades and finally decided to embrace going grey at age 60. After a year or so, it's all grown out and looks great but now it seems like my natural hair is getting darker again!
Hello thank you for your comment. Have you had your colours done since you embraced the grey?
Purple shampoo is good, too. It takes away any brassy tones.
Hi Bernita, great advice for those who have brassy tones in their hair and want to tone it down
I’m caught between letting go of the foils and embracing salt and pepper hair. Pinterest is my savior. I have a huge board on my newly minted retirement style and I’m loving my wardrobe, which I’ve recently overhauled.
It sounds like you are making a great start. Have you ever had your colours done?
No. No need as I have the skills to do myself.
Ah perfect that’s great sounds like you’re doing a great job
That would be lovely it would be great to meet you. Good luck with the move
Navy blue and gray are new in my wardrobe (both go well with blue)
My problem is hairstyle.

Thank you for confirming what I have begun to notice on myself. Great tips
You are very welcome. Have you adjusted your colour palette accordingly?
Pls let me known what I can do to contact you for color guidance/analysis. I was originally a winter when I had brown hair but am pretty sure that is not necessarily the case now. The models are beautiful. I need a sense of humour when I look in a mirror😅
Yes embracing the grey definitely does adjust your palette. Sometimes more for some than others.
Thank you.

Too much verbalization Need more pictures of what you’re saying.

I’m confused. But thanks👩🏻🦳
Hello what are you confused about can I help?
Too much talking . I would prefer more pictures with different color outfits . To find out what fits me.
Thank you for the feedback. I am aiming to add more images
Hi Donna,
Good for you. I am glad you are doing what feels right for you.
I don't think I could ever go gray. My eyes are dark golden brown, my skin is fair warm beige. I keep my hair colored with golden brown so I can wear my warm browns, mossy greens, rust and tomato red.
That is absolutely your prerogative. You should do what makes you happy. Have you had your colours done?
Dark brown eyes, pale warm skin tone, whitish silver hair - love my newish hair color - cannot wear really dark brown, still can wear all olives, mosses, khakis, navy, greys, & VIOLET & purples. You may be pleasantly surprised.
It depends on lots of factors but if it works for you that is the most important thing
Same, but I grew my hair out. It was dyed brown. It is platinum white now, but the sun yellows it a bit. See my thumbnail. I love the change.
Good for you 😊
What colours work best on yourself as your presenting yourself rather bland?
@Cyrusmagi The colours I am wearing work for me, but more importantly, they are colours I like. The beauty of choosing a wardrobe you love is that you can choose the colours you like. I would also like to make you aware that I promote kindness on my channel.
It would be interesting to see some vlogs: what you eat, how you keep fit, how you lift your spirits when you're sad or tired, what you like to do...discover a little about your lifestyle. Thank you 🦋

Too complicated
Hi Beth, it is a complicated subject which is hard to cover in one video. This is mainly because the standard colour palettes that were drawn up in the 80’s did not include grey hair, nor did the updates. What did you find confusing?
No such thing as grey hair. What it is will be your own colour hair with white through it. Lol, I had to say it...❤❤
😁
Word salad
?
@@capsuleclosetstylist Indeed! How very rude.
Yes they come with the territory unfortunately.
There is nothing wrong with the colour balance in my home, hair, nor camera but thank you for your feedback.
