Are my tears from the sheer beauty of this song, from the ethereal blending of David’s soulful violin with Jackson’s voice and guitar, or from the loss I feel at the passing of Mr Dave? Godspeed David. Thanks for the years of invaluable music and humor.🌹
Pure magic. Dave Lindley was a very important part of JB life and we still get to witness it via you tube Forget everything else and melt into their music
All 3. But of the many versions of this exquisite song, this is in a different universe. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts and Lindley's sublime, interpretive fiddle brings out the best in JB.
"Don't confront me with my failures, I've not forgotten them." What a classic lyric. And it's not tucked away in the middle of the song, it actually closes the song. I love songs like that, that leave you hanging and mesmerizing. Pondering. Usually songwriters like to have a nice tidy ending to a song, but Jackson doesn't do that. He does it on a personal level, but also on a level that we can all relate to. It's a very unique and cool style.
@@kathleenb1947 Yep, knew that. His album "For Everyman", which includes this song, is my second favorite Jackson Browne album. My favorite is "Late For The Sky."
@@BobMarshall1952 Great! I've really enjoyed the concerts on YT with David Lindley too. I was astounded when I heard he was that "conscious" and talented at 16! Exceptional human being. Be well, Bob.
In addition to being a master stringed instrument musician, Lindley had a unique ability to play harmony to whatever Jackson Brrowne played, or sang, which so enriched the music. The world lost 'a good one' when David passed, but he gave us so much we'll never really be without him.
I dedicate this wonderful masterpiece to my best friend Steve Smith. He passed on the 4th of July and we both agreed that this song pretty much summed up our friendship and our lives as friends and as grown men. RIP South Carolina
Beautiful! Made me tear up. The music, the lyrics, the performance and combination of these two is amazing. Jackson Browne pours his heart out through these songs.
Jackson Browne I love you and I can't say enough about late David Lily when I was young I had to travel on with The Pretender I love you Jackson Browne

...Jackson was 17 when he wrote this! Old soul. JB and David Lindley go back that far too, Lindley can literally play any stringed instrument - dobro, mandolin, violin/fiddle, lap steel...a musical genius (& my favourite hippie, haha!) Check out his concert with Ry Cooder. Epic. This, my fave performance of this long-loved soul-poem. Says everything we less-brave ones have in our hearts...well, me anyways. Thanks for this post!
Add to Lindley's strings I've seen him play: Bouzouki, Turkish Oud, Weisenborn (acoustic lap steel - he says is his favorite to play). Yes, multiinstrumentalist extradinair!
As was known to others in his time, he didn’t write songs in a few minutes. He labored to get it “correct.” I.e. “Take it easy” completed by Glenn Frey after Jackson couldn’t finish it. “These Days” could very well have been born in his brain as early as age 15. Age 15, 16, or 17 is not the issue. The lyrics are brilliant at any age and he wrote it at a time in his life many of us were pimple faced and listening to Chuck Berry on our 45 record players.

I don't mean that as a criticism, I applaud him for speaking his mind, it's just not my thing personally. My favorite Jackson tune has always been "Fountain Of Sorrow."

Such simple beauty - and musical blending of souls.

Weeping for David tonight.

Oh my... Peace Be With You, David Lindley! 💔
Thanks for this gift.

Especially beautiful, this one, with David Lindley's fiddle alongside...
RIP, David Lindley
RIP David Lindley
Lindley & Browne are National Treasures.
Rest in peace David 💔
Only the few good men love these good old souls...
David was the best on any sort of strings ...

This song would be perfect today , Sung as if by a young mother that only had months to grow up and leave child hoof behind.
Couple of super heavyweight talents here. Many thanks, gentlemen!
Probably my favorite JB song. Just amazing. The two guys have made such wonderful music over the years.
Music to live by....💕
How have I never heard this? I guess he has so many great songs it makes it hard to know every single one.
I would say you’re a youngster. I’m gonna be 72 shortly.
JB wrote this when he was sixteen.
Now, absorb that true statement and the words all at once.

I can never decide if I love his voice, his instrument playing, or a piece in the band. Still trying to figure it out.
Masterpiece.

Saw Lindley and Cooder in concert in Vancouver some years ago. Great show!

Gregg Allman wrote this when he lived with Jackson back int he 60's. The best ever white blues singer and one H of a song writer.
Beautifully performed.
Beautiful voice/lyrics...soulful violin.
Superb always , deserves many Millions of likes !
Perfection
I love Jackson Brown.....

Class.
For the ages.
I knew David in our teens. Always brilliant. Used to play at the Cats Pijamas in Arcadia, Ca. All San Gabriel Valley boys.

Joan Baez has a beautiful version of Fountain too.

Yahh so nice
These two might as well have been joined at the hip . They were a natural fit
Rip David lindley
That Bieber person gets millions of views, and this one don´t even get a thousand.
There´s something seriously wrong with the world.
Mats Jönsson not so much on good music with good lyrics that is why
never seen Jacjkson finger pick before
Nothing against Jackson Browne But Paul Westerberg's version is awesome!
