Billy Strings official bio:
Michigan-born and now Nashville-based, Billy Strings is a Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and musician, who arrived on the scene as “one of string music’s most dynamic young stars” (Rolling Stone). Strings is in the midst of a triumphant year after winning Best Bluegrass Album at the 63rd Grammy Awards for his critically acclaimed record, Home. Produced by Glenn Brown, the record also led Strings to top Billboard’s 2020 year-end charts in both Bluegrass categories-Top Bluegrass Artists and Top Bluegrass Albums-and continues to receive widespread critical acclaim. Of the release, The Associated Press proclaims, “it is his creative musical storytelling, paired with solid vocals on Home that should seal the deal, pleasing fans of the genre and creating some new ones…the perfect blend of pure talent and pluck,” while The Wall Street Journal declares, “Billy Strings has clearly emerged as a premier guitar flatpicker of this era.” Since his debut, Strings has been awarded Guitar Player of the Year and New Artist of the Year at the International Bluegrass Music Awards, selected as one of Rolling Stone’s “New Country Artists to Know” and performed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and PBS’ “Bluegrass Underground.” Known for his electric live shows, Strings will continue his extensive headline tour throughout 2021 including upcoming shows in Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, Denver, Austin, Atlanta and Nashville among several others.
Thanks for watching my video. I gathered all the songs I shot at this show in a UA-cam playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLwdc0qZNx0tbzrIzUAa23O_acPXB1ZmZS.html. The songs are In The Morning Light (Billy Strings), City Of Immigrants (Steve Earle & Emmylou Harris), My Name Is Emmett Till (Emmylou Harris), My Alice (Billy Strings), Goodbye (Steve Earle & Emmylou Harris), Raise The Dead (Emmylou Harris and Steve Earle), Running On Empty (Jackson Browne and Billy Strings), Love And Regret (Billy Strings), Jerusalem (Steve Earle and Jackson Browne), Indoor Fireworks (Elvis Costello), I Am A Patriot (Jackson Browne), While I'm Waiting Here (Billy Strings), and Pilgrim (All). Enjoy!
Thanks so much Tim. I saw Billy the night before this at Sacramento Memorial with the full band. He did a much different version of Running on Empty that brought the roof down. He's simply amazing on so many levels.
Thank you for doing such an awesome job...!
Thanks for taping! I should have gone to this.
Thank You so much for playing with JB. You obviously recognize the beauty of his music and when complimenting it only add to it.
I’m an old Guy but have loved JBs music since the early 70s…maybe 60s. Some of his songs like “Red Neck Friend” was an anthem for myself and Friends in our redneck hippy kind of era….
TY for helping to carry on the music.
Play me Gangsta grass
I love that Billy doesn't forget who came before him and pays homage all the time . He is showing respect and homage. The nod from Jackson says it all. Cheers to all who are also enjoying !
I’m an old guy overjoyed that the gifted young guy is bringing a huge wave of young people with him to see the good old music.
Hallelujah!
My husband and I saw him at Frost last night (the night following this show) and I was commenting on that very thing. It was wonderful to see so many young people enjoying his bluegrass and other material. He’s doing wonders keeping pure, authentic, acoustic guitar-based music alive! 👏🏻
Yes, thank God. The 60s and 70s are alive again thanks mainly to Billy Strings and a few others. Music is finally riding again!
ditto and amen to that!
Right on!
Great to see these to getting together and playing music, for the sake of music.
I loved this song from my youth . Iam 65 years and I dont understand all the words. I am moroccan . Everytime I listen to it with a big pleasure . The melody is very nice.
Billy will be telling the story about playing with Jackson for the rest of his life. Jackson will be glowing with the knowledge that the kids are learning his tunes.
Makes me so damn happy.
Exactly
Totally agree…
I'm not even familiar with Billy Strings but I'll check him out been listening to Jackson since Doctor My Eyes .
@junior Johnson, serious rabbit hole. He’s for real
@@juniorjohnson5961 You are in for a treat
Was a sweet moment when Billy stepped in subtly to carry the line and never skipped a beat allowing Jackson to continue. Respect.
and JB smiled...
Jackson looks like he's really enjoying Billy playing his song
There is nothing I love more than seeing Billy play with some old legends.
You can say that again! They're legends that have taken music to a whole new level to the point that their songs make the mind travel in awe while being entertained. Have you been to Billy's concert before?
Such an iconic song and great to see Jackson Browne sharing it with someone as gifted yet humble like Billy
100%.Jackson must feel happy to know a young musician like Billy is carrying on his great music. And Billy must’ve loved the chance to play it with Jackson. Awesome. That’s a performance for the ages,
That kid can sing! ( and play!)
@@cindyschneider4728 Billy's pretty good, too!
nice comment!
You call somebody so pretentious as to give himself a phony last name like "Strings" humble?? C, D, G... wow! What a player!
I keep telling people Billy is one of the most talented musicians we’ve seen in years
I had the privilege of seeing Billy Stings live for the first time on Sept 30 , 2022 at Frost Amphitheater at Stanford. I was amazed. In addition to the stunningly clean and hot bluegrass playing there were times when I could close my eyes and swear that I was listening to Pink Floyd. That guy is immensely talented and whoever produces his touring show is world class. The sound and the special effects sounds were amazing, as well as the light show. I went to the show expecting to be impressed, but I was absolutely blown away and amazed by what I saw and heard.
He really is the new messiah for multiple genres and at such a young age... Anyone who talks him down doesn't realize he was better at age 16 than they are giving him credit for now....
I've never been into bluegrass but he sucked me in because of the obviously large catalog of music he references and pays tribute to.
Billy Strings is the most hip guitar player I’ve ever heard. I think he is the best guitar player I’ve ever heard! Bravo Billy I’m a fan!

The way Billy picks up a couple of high notes there when Jackson can’t quite hit them… There’s a lot of love between those two.
You could never understand it, unless you lived it !
We born in the 50's, have paid some heavy prices, but at the same time we're blessed to have music, some of like that of Jackson Brown !
Man.....those were some times !
@ ✌️
I'm 71 years old, and still perform out often. This song was such a powerful inspiration for me, and the lady who became my wife, and the mother of my family so many years ago. Having been a performer and writer (150 songs copyrighted) for my whole life, I have always noticed 'up and comings'. Billy Strings, being a major talent, I noticed him immediately, but just assumed he would be like so many others, relating only to the music of his peers, which I have to say are not that outstanding on average. But now, to my very pleasant surprise, he seems to be a spirit, like many of us, who know nothing of styles, eras, or trends, but has that amazing ability to tune in to soul, and what it is that has attracted us all to manifest here in this reality in the first place.. and that is to experience and love this world in its myriad of exciting adventures. God bless you all.
Cool😃 like, im a noone, nothing to my name at all, well, im married but took my wifes name, she wasn't backing down and id rather have her than a name, but seeing peoples stories of what they do and have done, i wonder if i know any of those 150 songs, even if they are way out of my radar id like to think i might😃👍
That last part...nice ✌️
I haven’t seen too many people put a smile on Jackson’s face like that. When it comes to acoustic guitar it’s hard to beat Billy
I've actually never seen it.
@@misomaya Hahaha.. I know right.
He was thinking about all the hot chicks along the way and laughing at how good Billy is doing 🤣
Call me selfish. I want to hear BS and JB do "Doctor My Eyes." Jesse Ed Davis smiling from heaven. Moments to behold.
Every famous musician that I see playing with Billy, they always smile when he plays, especially when he plays a solo.
Of course Billy is a phenomenal instrumentalist but damn, that boy has a beautiful voice too.
Wow !
A lot of people miss that,Good call was getting ready to comment the same thing.A lot see him as just a flat picking Bluegrass player. He is that but has become so much more.
I first saw Billy Strings on Austin City Limits on PBS about a year and a half ago. I grew up on British Prog Rock, Mountain,James Gang and Grand Funk Railroad. In my 67 years of living I have never heard and liked a Bluegrass voice like ol' Billy...I'm a convert for sure.
I Agree and his voice seems to just Get better.
If I wasn’t watching, it was hard to tell who was singing❤
Hey Tim!
I’m one of the two producers of this event and I want to thank you so much for capturing this special moment, and especially for sharing our donate link in your video description! Cannot begin to tell you how grateful I am that this beautiful, magical moment is resonating with so many people. Huge thanks to Jackson and Billy for supporting Camp Winnarainbow and to you for spreading the word! ❤️🙏🏻
Thank you.
From a fan
Hi Jordan, my pleasure! I really admire and appreciate the work you guys do at Camp Winnarainbow. And kudos to you and your co-producer for putting together such a magical evening. 🌈
I don't know rather to thank you or hate you with Envy. I bet money when this idea came about it took you about a second to decide hell yeah and before the one second it took saying yes, you were was already 3 seconds behind. Thank you thank you thank you. I got lucky and found it you was blessed and was apart of it. Keep it up
Thank you
Thats a nice thing to say man👍
My goodness, what an honor for Jackson and Billy. I have followed Jackson Browne since the early 70's and he is, by far, my favorite artist. That is a tall order given the talent running around in my 6 decades. But Jackson Browne, the man never stopped and the legacy he has built will endure into time well beyond us all. To me, at least, his song Barricades of Heaven set the tone for his entire career. The one thing I could NEVER figure out about him was how his lyrics were SO profound for being so young. Maybe that is normal and I'm the knothead, but either way, the man is a wordsmith and an amazing musician. Breaks my heart to see him struggle to sing, he gave his all and is still going. I could see the joy in his eyes seeing a youngun pick up the slack so he could keep on playing.
Thank you Jackson Browne for getting me through life, you have NO idea how hard I leaned on you all these years. Still do and I love taking you on the road with me, we have covered some miles together.
A 17 year old Billy Strings would never believed he'd be playing alongside Jackson Brown one day!
Can't imagine the feeling of playing one of Jackson Browne's songs with him, looking over and seeing him smiling.
Wow. Gives you the chills... Billy Strings is the real deal.
I've watched this countless times and it gets better every time.
So gracious of Jackson Browne to sign backing vocals and play rhythm for someone else on this song.
Not sure if you're familiar with that "someone else" but..................................
Jackson Browne, what a writer, ! Lo've all his songs especially "these days". Just discovered Billy strings last year and what a guitarist!
I had a lump in my throat throughout the entire song. It was beautiful to see Billy share the stage with a legend, the great Jackson Browne. Billy is truly a musician’s musician, and he clearly reveres his elders. Excellent vocal by Billy.
I'm practically crying. Awesome. Two of my favorite musicians ever.
I know how you feel.
Aw , exactly how I feel too. What a great surprise to see this appear in my UA-cam feed
Billy Strings tickling Jackson Browns funny bone❤
Biggest smile on my face......keep Jackson's songs and spirit alive Billy Strings!
So awesome Billy's voice actually sounds like a young Jackson its fantastic
Billy is a local guy around here . He’s played in Northern Michigan since he was a teenager . We’re very proud of him in Traverse City ,Mi .
yes indeed, thank you for posting !!
And also further south. He is an incredible talent.
William Apostol is his real name.
He’s extremely humble and absolutely amazing as a person.

Jackson Browne was my musical hero since 1972 when I first saw him in concert. I have memorized the lyrics to several of his songs. Seeing Billy and Jackson together is a great moment in music as they both represent the height of popular music.
Once in a lifetime opportunity to perform with Jackson Browne. Awesome.
Old guy saw JB do this a number of times. Billy is a breath of fresh air with an old soul. From Doc to Jerry G, JB & more. He brings the best of my musical generation to a new audience. I'll leave the blue ball knowing the music is in good hands.
Browne and the young David Lindley. What a joy Billy Strings is....
There are few things that give me hope. Young musicians like Billy Strings do give me hope.
Billy’s birthday was yesterday (10/3). Only 30 years old, but an old soul.
I've been listening to Jackson Browne my whole life. Great music and glad to see another generation enjoying his music
Billy Strings lifts up those around him, lends his God given talents to celebrate the music that never grows old. An incredible soul is he.
Doctor My Eyes have seen the future & Billy Strings is bringing my favorite musicians into that future, playing their music. My love for JB is immeasurable ❤
One of the best albums ever released from front to back
Indeed, been a while since I've listened to it. Thanks for the nudge!
I can't reveal how many times I played this album or the amount of stuff I consumed.
Jackson is such a generous soul. You can tell that they are both having a great time. Billy getting to play with a legend, and Jackson seeing his music being carried on by the new generation. I love it!
I saw Jackson live a few years ago and he came out and sang a couple songs with Sarah and Sean Watkins, who were opening for him. They both came out during Jackon's set and played and sang with him. It was clear that they were all just enjoying themselves and taking pleasure in performing together.
Last time I saw Jackson was at merry weather post with Willie Nelson. I was there to see Jackson but no dis to Willie. Jackson hit home with me many years ago. Such a real minded person.
Jackson , this o;d hippie first saw you open for Joni in Boston march 1971. You are so gracious to this kid I do not know, but so happy he' knows your music. That was just so much fun. Watching you both watching each other. That child was so excited to play with you. Great moment. Thanks Tim Bracken!
Billy is so reverential to who he plays with. I'm 48, and I still see him as a kid some, but he is so good, and he just loves it all.
Can't say anything equal to the beauty of this performance, so I'll just say thanks.
Jackson Brown is such a great songwriter! Fab collaboration here with Billy Strings, love how they both are just loving it, and how Billy steps in on those high notes adding his vibe but not taking away from the songs original take. Thanks for sharing!
This says so much about Jackson Browne's commitment and respect for younger musicians. It's a tribute to Browne's humbleness. Truly a blessing. Also, Billy Strings is fabulously talented.
Musician in the grove feeling cues, and responding to each other without words playing great music is an experience of life at its finest
Man, Billy got Jackson rocking and rolling. They sounded great together. I'd love to see them do a full show. Wow.
I spent my childhood singing Jackson Browne songs with my dad. This makes me smile, because it reminds me of singing with my dad.
Gave me chills to watch Billy pull this off with JB and do it with his style. He's hitched himself to pull the next generations of young musicians and fans forward in music performed by musicians, not machines. Remember it was Billy "off the cuff" sitting in that living room a few years ago with just his guitar and of course Mr Green Shirt that brought a lot of us to find out about him.
We all remember well !
Thanks for posting !!
I am so grateful and delighted that I get to be alive while Billy is here for us to enjoy!! I cherish his path and reverence for the music. He is such a generous player. Happy Birthday, Ole Man!!
You can't go wrong playing with Jackson Browne !!! A legend !!
way better than ANYTHING I have heard that would be considered NEW music in the last 10 years
Jackson’s smile tells it all. Melding of the ages…
JB is one of the most giving musicians alive. Thanks for this!
You can say that again! They're legends that have taken music to a whole new level to the point that their songs make the mind travel in awe while being entertained. Have you been to JB's concert before?
Jackson Browne, one our greatest musical artists.
I love the mutual respect between Jackson and Billy.
Very magnanimous of Jackson to allow Billy to take the lead on this song for the most part. Fun to see!
What's it say about an artist when every time you hear them play a different song you like them more than you already do? Billy Strings is a gift to music lovers everywhere.
As a fan of both this is the kind of moment that you cherish .
The first thing I did after watching this was to watch it again and again. It is just fabulous. I’m a huge fan of J. B. and sharing this song with this unbelievable talented young man was just magnificent
What an honor to sing one of Jackson Browns songs with Jackson Browne! Billy gets respect and he gives it too. He really is a blessing to the music world.
This brought me to tears!
Great stuff like this ensures that the circle will remain unbroken
acoustic guitar music never ages, the body ages but the song is forever young
OMG. My two faves of all freaking times!! ❤️❤️❤️
Jackson Brown wrote "These Days" as a GD teenager. He is no stranger to young, musical genius. Kindred spirits for sure.
Billy just played this cover in Winston-Salem and the place went wild, rightfully so, what an incredible song that will live forever. BMFS!!!!!!!!
Surfing youtube and BOOM…Great duo…Jackson Browne is a legend and Billy Strings is on his way🎸🎸🎸🎸👍🏼👍🏼…Thanks for posting
What an honor for Billy ! Jackson Browne is one in a million, his voice and the music fit like a glove .
Wow just wow!!!
Now that's priceless. Hopefully, it's way too premature to be passing the torch. What a wonderful spectacle. Oh, so lucky people that witnessed this performance.
Oh, that Billy Strings. Jackson loved it as much as anyone in the room.
That was great to watch. Thanks for posting it. It put a smile on my face and warmed my heart. Both these guys are not only great musicians, but great human beings. Don't miss a chance to see Billy play live. You won't regret it. Jackson Brown played at a cancer benefit to help raise donations for the event which my schoolmate was putting on as a three time cancer survivor. That's the kind of giving soul he is. Giving of his time and talents to help others. I also had the pleasure of performing a private laser show for Jackson in a small studio. He is so aware and thoughtful. Very down to earth. It was a great experience getting to spend some time with him. As he was leaving the studio, he stopped turned around and thanked me again by name for the show. I'll never forget the positive energy of being around that man.
Thank you for posting !!
Jackson Browne the legend playing with Billy Strings the future legend!
How cool to get to play with Jackson Browne, congrats Billy
This is what I needed in my life right now. Thank you.
Billy Strings was the most promising talent I listened too at Bristol Rhythm & Roots several years ago now!!! Knew he would do very well and make his mark in the Americana music scene!!!
You can say that again! They're legends that have taken music to a whole new level to the point that their songs make the mind travel in awe while being entertained. Have you been to Billy's concert before?
This is perfection! Two of the handsomest guitar players singer-songwriters that I've ever seen sitting together playing an awesome song
They can only copycat. Originals are priceless. Live the dream.
I appreciate both of these two men and their abilities. At 1:51 when Jacksons voice cracked, Billy stepped in and sang his part. That is honoring one of your Heros.
Jackson still has that uniquely unmistakable voice. Great duet!
Tim Bracken- Awesome song.Thank you. Billy Strings is great.....love hearing him sing the song with Jackson. This duet will live on a long time, It is special.
Holy shit! This is the best thing I've seen/heard in a long time. Glad to know about Billy Strings. Happy 70th birthday to me.
JB nailed the aura/feeling of 69…classic…better times ahead for us all especially BS generation…love them both! Thanks for sharing with us on East Coast.
Chillsl. Is there anything this guy can't make more beautiful??
No kidding. I literally got goosebumps in the middle of the song. Beautiful
That was beautiful. Thanks for sharing! I love hearing Billy and Jackson play this together.

Just an astounding performance! The generational connectivity, and the joy when great music is being passed along.
i can't help playing this song 5-6 sings times a day! It belongs on my all time list. Thank you Jackson, thank you Billy Strings.
I can’t take my eyes off of Jack. What a beautiful soul. We’re all aging and there’s no stopping it!
Killer! RIP David Lindley ...my favorite musician~
I loved every minute of this but Billy's smile at the end was the best.
I love how the industry still allows the young to mix in the the new...awesome pair right there!
How many of my brother's and sister's from our Boomer generation and generation x are till listening to the greatest music ever?
That's one I never thought would happen. Sweet.
The ending with the expression on both of their their faces, brought a tear of joy to my eye. It was just a small reminder that life is beautiful. Thanks for making my day.
Hadn’t seen a smile on Jackson Browne’s face since he played with Greg Allman, glad to see it!! Awesome
My brother had the Running on Empty 8-track and listened to it when we were in high school.
You couldn’t force the smile off of Jackson’s face 😊
