This is my 97 40th Anniversary, triple locked, FZJ80 Land Cruiser. It is an 80 series that I bought a few months back already pretty well equipped. I added some 37" BFG KO2s on Fifteen52 Analog wheels, threw a GFC tent on top, Installed Slee front lower control arms, and DVS rear panhard bracket to help it track better. Put some Baja Designs lights on the Land Cruiser, and added a few Factor55 components. Oh, I painted it brown - so I think it's maybe the only (or one of the only) brown 80 series out there. The brown 60 series Land Cruisers I've see were inspiration for sure. This is a 97, so it's an FZJ80, though some just refer to them as an FJ80 still.

Very nice what is the paint code love that paint job
Great video, and thank you for all the details. Any chance you could share who build the sliders. Exactly what I'm looking for. Thx
I've owned 3 generations of LC's for the past 30 yrs all modified overland builds. I currently own a 200 series with 2.5" OME and 34" K2Os. But my '91 FJ80 was my favorite. It's great seeing young guys that continue the passion for impressive overland builds. Thanks for sharing your awesome rig.
Japanese old SUV always make me exiting
Very excite!! - Borat
Nothing beats the 80 series land cruiser . The best model ever built. No comparison with any other car.
You didn’t say “hope you’ve been well”. WTF. I’m hurt. Lol. GreAt rig
I noticed when editing a few days later. Almost went and refilmed the entire video.
Lmao
😂😂 I thought the exact same thing! Doesn’t he hope I’ve been well!? What happened!! Is everything okay!? 😂
@@LastLineOfDefense you put it at 6:41 mark!
1993 camry steering wheels are direct fit and rubber compound I believe. Wont wear as bad. Check your local scrap yard and welcome to the 80 community!
John Adams replaced my steering wheel, trunk latch, and cup holder insert using a junk yard. I definitely recommend going that route.
That's a solid Land Cruiser! I like that the interior has some character, kinda of like my 04' Toyota Tundra.
Our owner is a HUGE old school Toyota guy and had to stop watching when he saw you painted the Gold Trim. Apparently the factory Gold 40th Anniversary trim is extremely hard to get so painting it might upset a few die hard, old school Toyota guys. I would have swapped the Gold with silver trim and painted it black and kept the Gold Trim for another build.
Still a Rock Solid Build, any Toyota guy would die to get his hands on! Keep doing what you're doing!
There was no good trim anywhere on this - if I said gold that's my fault, I meant chrome. I could definitely be wrong, but I think good trim only came on the Lexus.
Your dog is awesome, your girl is beautiful, and your videos are great. Please keep them up. Only problem is your vids make me want to quit my job and live out of my truck and see the world.
Haha thank you!
Nice machine man. I feel you it takes a minute getting the wiring and everything running well. One day I’ll own a land cruiser. Keep up the good videos
Thanks man!
Your roof rack look into the rust problems with the mounting drill drain holes had this problem with my 60 welcome to the family
Whole build is cool, love the rear bumper and old school look wheels. Awesome as usual.
Thanks man!
Hi again, as a long time cruiser owner ,you need a digital temp gauge with a audible alarm, cruisers never over heat until they do, and before you know it you are in meltdown territory, usually a hose brakes on the firewall ,and you go from normal to meltdown in no time ( before you notice anythings wrong)
Killer mods man. Definitely opened me up to a land cruiser.
Can never go wrong with an 80 for an overland or expedition build. I drove a built 95 model all over the country for 10 years. Great choice and enjoy it.
Sweet! The problem these days is you can't find a new 4x4/offroad vehicle that is just very basic. They are all pimped out with so many electronics and luxury items. You have a very cool truck! I know not cheap to do, but kinda fun fixing it up exactly the way you want it! Look forward to more video's on this thing! :)
Yeah it's a nice platform to slowly evolve to my needs!
Great looking 80! They are a good starting point and built to handle lots on and off road. I have a Cummins 6BT in mine takes the sting off at the pump and fixes the power issue on 37’s. Look forward to seeing how your progress with yours.
Good decision on paint given your intended use. Maaco is good value for the money in the right circumstance. Know a guy who had a 60's pick up he intended to use, not to show. He did all the prep, including most masking, trailered to Maaco and got it done for just about 2 grand.
Yeah, it made sense for me
For a maaco paint job, it looks amazing man. It really sticks out with that brown. Looking like a grizzly!
She's a beaut. Everyone should definitely have a jump start pack. Running a single battery system, I've killed it a few times with an old borrowed Engel 12V fridge. I since have purchased my own, the newest model 45MT that has a low voltage cut off, and haven't had a problem. In fact I've used the jump pack many more times to help out others. Usually city folk that come to our parks and leave their lights on haha
I like that you show all the little things you did to the cruiser, its fun to see how people customize the vehicle rather than just shocks and bumpers that everyone has. Also I love your dog! Thanks for sharing!
I really appreciate all the detail and opinions in your videos. I think that's why a lot of us watch so don't worry too much about making the videos too long
That’s a pretty sick suv. I’d also like to have a rig like this in addition to my Tacoma.
I have a 96 FZJ80 running on 35s. Just put in 4:88 gears and upgraded to ARB front and rear Air Lockers. I highly recommend doing a re-gear if changing the factory tire size ;)
How much was that setup? I wanna do the exact same thing?
@@ricklp1861
For me, it was $3700 but I pulled out the diffs and had them done at a local shop. Everything in the diff assembly, I paid the shop to do, everything else like installing the air lines and filling the diff oil again, I did myself. It took about 3 weeks when all said and done. I'm running a gear set from Nitro.
@@ricklp1861 If you end up doing it, hit me up with any questions you have! I'd also make sure you like 35s or 37s for your build before you go with the gear set of 4:88s. They are perfect for 35s, though a little low for the 35" tire size which will help a lot with hill climbs and trails too.
@@benjaminott8679 thx bro ! I'll hit u up ..I'm looking for a 95-97 right now ..if u know someone let me know thx
dude u absolutely crushed that build
It's so awesome to see 80s getting more and more popular again. hopefully if I get my 80 over to the US I'll swing by Colorado :)
for everyone asking... Mike put his hope you have been "well" in cryptic format at 6:41 mark :)
Just got myself a 1997 Lexus LX450, it’s an easy truck to love!
You're land cruiser is my phone wallpaper. It's my dream car thanks for sharing your setup.
You finally gave in and got an 80. Don't forget to add 2 more cylinders. Great choice. I got the forest green 40th, lightly modified.
Love this beautiful machine of yours. One of my favorite land cruisers ever along with the 70.
My only thought on this video and the last is don’t about what the group wants and just do your normal thing. Good videos. Thanks for the ride along.
Its an 80 instant thumbs up 🤙
My man.
I have a 97 LX450 triple locked I bought it at 175,000 now it has 330,000 miles its awesome.
BEST, BEST, BEST the best of the best 4×4 Toyota land cruiser 80 series 👍👍👍👍💪💪💪🎥👍👍👍🤝🙋♂️
Finally found this car, I’ve been seeing this brown and I been loving it❤❤😊
Your builds are very well thought out, glad to see how you built the back end of the interior. I forwarded this to a friend who recently picked up a LC80 and I'm sure he'll be inspired by this video.
Here in AZ the 80 club members would call your brown rig: "Fresh Morning Log", fyi. hahaha. My 80 is a little lighter brown. You have a tractor engine, in-line 6, 24 valves, you only need 20-40hp to wheel. No need to speed down the freeway with all that gear, you'll be fine dropping it into 2nd on long hills.
Yup, slow and steady, but I miss being able to hold the speed limit up hills, haha
Nice truck, nice color. Thanks man,I finally got my fridge, can't believe Dometic is having big sales. hahaha, almost $300 off.
You should call it the Dung Beetle...
Finally!!! Been waiting for this since you bought it!
Haha, yeah it took a bit - had lots of little things I wanted to do first.
That color is gangsta! It's a nice old school touch. Thanks for pointing out the bonus of the 40th anniversary. We're buying older vehicles. Why not get a top shelf, collectors items to start w/? I'm in the market. So of course I'll be looking for these trim levels to buy. Great videos. Hold it down
Good call on mako paint job👍👍👍 vehicles like this will see plenty of dings and scratches love it
Yeah, no sense in getting a high end paint job just to scratch it all up.
@@LastLineOfDefensewhat color is this??
Just an idea, on your second front runner box closer to the seats, drill a hole in the box handle and thread 6" of rope and knot on the inside and outside ends. Now you have a tug rope so can easily pull to you without reaching too far.
Cool that you got your ham license.. Got mine a few years ago
thank you for the videos. one of the best for anything over landing.
What a killer setup! I’m glad to see some of the ideas and things I’ve done being done by others. I have some oddball ideas but, I’m happy I’m not the only one that does them. Too cool.
Love the rig. I'm always on the hunt for an 80. My 40 is getting just a bit too rugged for the growing family. haha
LLOD please pimp my ride!
Haha loved that show!
Love the cruiser long time coming. Thank you so much for your vids. Informative and in depth real world reviews.keep up the good work.
That dog is so chill, love it! Great rig too.
Don't let anyone get you down. That brown is gorgeous. Way better than the 'rare' factory color it was. Great choice.
The last landcruiser with solid axle front is the 105 series which is not available in the usa they only got the 100 series with ifs. But like he said in the usa anyways the last would be the 80.
I used to sleep inside mine but wanted more storage so currently I’m using a awning tent will post soon a run through of my custom draw system love your set up ..... can’t wait for the engine mods....👍🇦🇺
This video is great! I have an 80 series that I’ve been slowly upgrading. I’m definitely getting a roof top tent and dometic next.
Oh and the Flaskers Axe is definitely the best axe out there. Effortless chopping.
The 2x4 tip is actually really good. Hadn't thought of that, will now include. Thanks!
Great video as always. I felt it was perfect in length and appreciate you going over all of the details. Also appreciate you disclosing the price you paid so those of us who have been toying w the idea of acquiring one have an idea of what to expect.
Awesome build! I’m actually going to look at an 80 series today triple locked!
That is such a tricked out LC now! I do my channel from mostly CO as well. Great place for content and I've really loved your channel. Thank you.
Nice man - yeah lotta good single track out here.
@@LastLineOfDefense No doubt about that that!
I think it’s so funny how excited land cruiser heads get about the “TRIPLE LOCKED”
Do they? I means it's cool having an SUV with factory solid axles with front and rear lockers
The front can be locked, center can be locked, rear can be locked. Now I was never good at math but that's 3 so triple locked? Yeah.
I know always putting us non locked 80 series down lol
For 850 u can get air lockers from Rocky-Road. Com they sell best sliders in the world 🌍 check them out Salt Lake Utah Merica ....
Such a sick rig. Idk why but I dig the brown lol
Nice ride, the only true off road vehicle.
Dude youre living the dream !
As long as you're happy with it dude! Land Cruiser builds on youtube are a dime -o-dozen. Your channel has never put out bad content so I of course will still check it all out. I've never seen one of these cruisers doing anything a new JL or JK can do comfortably. Love that paint though dude!
I'd say Tacoma/4runner/jeep builds are a dime a dozen - but I'd love you to point me to some cool 80 builds. I know there are a few, but can't even think of a dozen.
The Jeeps and 80 land cruiser are kind of in two different categories. The land cruiser is built for driving across the the middle east or Australian outback, the jeeps are more for short day trip trail rides due to their lack of reliability.
Just from a quick look at the underside you should spray that thing with Fluid Film or Woolwax or similar. You don't want it rusting anymore than it is. 80s are the absolute best! 1997 Collectors Edition here. 3X locked.
Edit: and for the power look up WitsEnd's turbo offering. It's amazing!....oh, and Noco kinda sucks. They were one of the first in the game but yeah, not so great. Look up ProjectFarm on YT. He did an exhaustive test on these units. But for sure everyone needs something like this. Saved my ass a million times too.
Yeah it's actually pretty good (framewise) on not having any major rust, so that's cool
So some basic questions... hi hope you doing well btw lol!
1. What was the base cost?
2. How much was the mod cost?
3. How much MPG do you get?
Very well detailed described and we do appreciate the honesty about the price
Tastefully kitted! 💪👌 It’s a little bit funny that putting 37:s on your 4x4 in the US is considered as showing restraint. 🤣
The best engine that came out from Toyota factory was 2uz-fe, this is the most bulletproof engine
Outside of head gasket issues, it’s solid. Having owned a 3x locked 80 and a couple 100 series, the motor in the 100 is better in every way
@@bma7978 head gasket issue? 2uzfe have no head gasket issue, at least not in iceland, use to work as a mechanic for 10 years... Never repleaced head gasket in those 2uzfe
The 1HD-FTE would like a word with you.
Who cares, they’re most incredible engines. Both very capable plus it’s a Toyota, end of convo.

Man watching this video starts giving ideas to start doing to my 97 Tahoe
Man you got a steal on that thing bro love it
There were a few I saw that were better deals, but this one was closest to what I wanted in the end for sure.
I've had my 3x '97 LX450 for 9 years now. Pumped a shitload of money into her. Good rig, underpowered for out here in the west as you know, thirsty. (BTW - I wouldn't recommend being Joey's (Wits End) guinea pig for a turbo setup. Talk to Christo Slee, especially since they are in your backyard.) Pretty unstoppable off-road, kinda point and shoot. Setup to flat-tow behind my diesel pusher RV. BUT, since I got my Power Wagon three years ago, hasn't been used much. The PW is built with a Four Wheel Camper Hawk and I really haven't been too many places here in AZ, UT, CA or NV that I wish I had the LX instead. Those step sliders were made by a guy in CO, and all I remember his name was Mike, met him in OxPo '14 nice guy. One addition that you might like are the Gullwing rear window replacements by Land Cruiser Phil sites.google.com/site/landcruiserproducts/windows. He's a buddy of mine down here in Scottsdale. Really makes getting in the back easy at camp to grab stuff, or in my case get to the air compressor on one side and fridge on the other. I like that tent, better option than the James Baroud that I had on a Front Runner rack.
Haha yeah, I talked with Amory and a couple other guys at Slee in depth about the power issues. General consensus was to leave it, and just go slow and learn some patience and humility on the hills.
That is one sweet setup! I had no idea you were handy like that. You’re going to make the Tacoma feel bad! Haha.
Ha yeah, I do most of my work on the rigs, though as I get older and busier, I enjoy it less and less...
Super sweet rig cant wait to see what diesel you go with
"Bomb proof" True! Thanks for the new term lol. Sick cruiser man.
There is a factory cup holder available for this... It goes in that blank spot above your radio (next to the antenna switches). It is silly expensive though...
Sick build, damn good deal. 30-min videos ftw
When you hear "vintage 1997". lol
Great video. Don't worry about going too long. I love the details. Can't wait to see how this rig evolves.
Found you because of this rig!
I'm pretty sure gear set and rpm work hand in hand. Gears can help vehicle go down the road better. Not increasing power but utilizing the power you have, in every situation on or off road.
Is it possible for you to do a tire review of the KO2 to the Wildpeaks on why you prefer them?
Wildpeaks FTW! I absolutely love mine on my 80 (In Minnesota)
Wildpeaks > KO2 especially after a few thousand miles. Much quieter, similar traction. Doesn't look as cool though
@@TobyCostaRica haha...looks are the most important in the 'overlanding' world. I think they look as good or better. Totally agree with you with their longevity. Mine still look new after multiple trips out west to Moab, Glacier, Yellowstone, etc.
Don’t get me wrong love the lane cruiser but I still see your Tacoma is my FAVORITE!
That color is gangster!! Nice 👍 hope I see it on the trails
That, my friend, is beautiful.
Nice land cruiser. Their is a guy near me that built one. Has a v8 in it. Drives it all over the place.
A nice 2JZ will fix the lack of power or a 4/6BT for a diesel option.
Wits end makes a nice turbo kit absolute-wits-end.com/80-series-1fz-wits-end-turbo-kit-carb-cert-pending-obd2-only/
Didn’t even know you guys had em in America love my baby
Great rig! With that color, you must call it The Gravy Boat.
My brother's friend says he has a bike in similar color and it's called 'Beefy Gravy'
@@LastLineOfDefense Nice!
WHATS THE COLOR CODE???
80 is my fav lc. Great Video!
That paint color choice is perfect
Looks like every “overland boi’s” dream 😂😂😂
Yeah they’ve become pretty popular… a Tacoma or 4Runner makes more sense for almost everyone though
Very thorough. Great video, as always. Thanks.
The color is awesome
Nice rig. I wanted to sell my Armada 4x4 with 35s to get an 80s series w a solid front axle but I'm not sure I can walk away from 350hp. I may have to have to have that rear bumper though.
You only need about 20-40 hp when 4x4ing. The inline 6 is a tractor engine with 24 valves, low gearing, solid axle, great articulation, sayin'.
Has to be diesel 1hdft!Color Desert Mist.Thats the best combo.Got one!Also a 05 Hilux Vigo 1kd power (chipped).1995 Nissan Patrol tb42e powered 3 door.
It's beautiful man. That color is so nice.
Everything is great but I prefer manual transmision because it gives you more control in muddy, slippery terrain
I like the way you did the platform. Really interested to see what you continue to do with it. 👍
Beautiful color!
