    I love seeing such great enthusiasm for the 80 series and a good build job too, I just bought a 94 in 2024 (now) so it's 30 years old and has 562000km on it, it's still awesome, they are much loved here in Australia and are everywhere still serving their duty reliably, my 1fz-fe runs on petrol and LPG (twin tanks) it's such a smooth lazy motor and pretty torquey as you would know.

    Interesting enough. My Discovery2 has been very reliable and the cost of ownership is actually not that bad. Especially if you do the work yourself and know where to get parts. My Discovery has 200k miles. And its arguably more reliable now than when new! Its triple locked on 35s as well. After 14yrs of ownership I can truly say that these trucks are more reliable than people think. They do have quirks, but so do most 20yr old trucks!

    • @krover01
      @krover01 4 роки тому +2

      @@hdjoeiii Just basic hand tools.( Unless you want to change values in the ECU/BCU) Maybe an ABS code reader? but thats it. The newer ones you need the computer that can communicate with all the ECU functions just to do basic troubleshooting. Mine you can still fix with sockets and wrenches. Yes the depreciation is horrible, but that is starting to change. Clean examples with service records are fetching $12000-14,000 US dollars! Where not that long ago you could find them for $1000!! Not a factor for me though as I have no plans to ever get rid of this truck. If I did get rid of it, the parts alone are worth more than the truck as a whole.

    You have a lot of good quality stuff on your rig, but I like how everything is practical. If it's something that NEEDS to be quality, you spend the money on quality stuff. But you also keep a level head when it comes to things and don't just put the most expensive accessories on it just because it's cool. Your fuse block for example, (which I've made myself now thanks to you) is a great diy projects that doesn't cost a lot of money but is very practical as opposed to the other systems you could have bought that cost loads of money, but are unreliable.

      I try to find that balance. Some items are "Buy once cry once". I wouldn't by an inexpensive Hi-Lift alternative, but I don't need to spend $120 on a hose that allows me to air down/up two tires at once.

    All 80 series Land Cruisers have a center locking differential in the transfer case. They just don't all have the switch in the dash to engage it in 4-high. The switch is around $100usd from Toyota. The connection is behind the hazard light switch tapped back to the wire harness.

    you cant beat a traditional basket rack. Im constantly tossing stuff up on my rack like firewood ect while on camping or on the trail not to mention if I want to tie down a jerry can it will take me two seconds instead of feeling like I have to go buy a expensive mount that only works with my design.

    I love watching your videos! More so since I sold my Tacoma last year and got an 80! Was lucky enough to find one at 146K with a great interior and factory locked front and rear! Been building her up for about a year already, and love seeing rig walk arounds of them, and particularly like the sometimes 80centric videos focus of your videos; like the Aux power circuit fab and install video, and how that fit right in with what I was doing that week. Pretty rad man. You don’t happen to have link for the LED upgrade bulb you used in the interior do you?? Everything I’ve tried in that regard is trash, and that array or led action looks promising. Thanks for all y’all do, take care.

      1997 Lx450 California rig clean title. No lockers. I've owned her for about 7 yrs. Has a little over 300k miles. Binder full of receipts and maintenance records. Almost everything has been replaced in her mechanically minus the engine and trans. But I do oil changes every 3k miles and run fuel cleaner. Newest part are rebuilt drive shafts. Originals are still great but I just wanted new ones.
      She runs great but I dont drive her anymore. Cost of gas is high and low mpg.
      I've also never taken her off road. Strictly highway. Shes seen snow once on the highway.

    Hear from I Am Jake lately? You should convince him to get a rig like yours!!!! Found overland bound through his channel. Nice review. Long term goal to get a rig like this setup. Right now we drag the fishing boat around with our minivan loaded up with camping gear and our two little ones. Stay safe out there.

    Earth to Mikey! Earth to Mikey! I liked it! I liked, a lot. Over! Great presentation and walk around. It provides reassurance in the choice to purchase
    a Toyota 5th Gen 4Runner and outfit it, accordingly. Acknowledging, they're two distinct vehicles, but given the Toyota name brand. I'm very happy with the
    vehicle. Enough so, that I would by purchase another 4Runner. I also installed a "Long Range America" 33 Gallon Auxilary fuel tank. for a total of 56 Gallon
    fuel capacity. With the addition of two 5 Gallon Gerry cans for a total of 66 Gallons of capacity. Most times to share with a fellow member.
    Thank you for all you do and cheers, Mate.

    It's a lot of work to keep a 80 series on the road due to their age. You have to be very proactive in replacing parts.

  • @PedroQua

    Hi, the power to the back and the accessories it's direct from the battery right?
    So it's always on, your not afraid to run out the battery?

    • @OverlandBound
      @OverlandBound  4 роки тому +1

      There is a switch for the 12v power at the block, and a switch for each accessory in back. That power block is off most of the time.

    • @PedroQua
      @PedroQua 4 роки тому +1

      Ok, and for the lights and radios, the relay's are connected to 12v ignition (the white wire) so it doesn't draw the battery when the car is off?
      Thanks for your work, great rig that Toyota.
