In this video, I talk about my 1997 40th Anniversary triple-locked FZJ80 Land Cruiser. This 80 series is one of my favorite rigs, and it's been an ongoing land cruiser resto mod / upgrade / update project of mine. Probably a never ending 80 series restoration project of mine, but it's been fun. Wanted to give an update on where this FJ80 Land Cruiser sits at this time with some notable updates with the GFC V2 RTT, some Scheel-Mann Vario Seats, the Huracan Fab Tailgate Storage Mod, and a custom overland drawer system that I've been working on. Some other future mods are talked about as well with the Dometic cooktop and the Dometic center console fridge. Hope you like this little look into a project update on my 80 Series Land Cruiser.

That 80 LC in brown really does look sweet. I can see why that is your pride and joy. Do not let that go, and just keep making it unique. Absolutely love it. Seats look amazing. Those are the type upgrades that will completely set this apart from the rest.
I like the drawer system, and that it’s a “work in progress” type of build. It solves a lot of my analysis paralysis before drawing and/or constructing.
I actually found your "complaining" in this video quite refreshing . 😁 No one is immune to the many irritations of existence and frankly, a small amount of complaining or negative feedback adds realism to your online presence. Hopefully the house build goes smoother as you dig in deeper.

Grew up in Gunnison/Almont/Crested Butte in the 80s with my Dad's FJ60 and Mom's N60 4Runner, followed by both having FJ80s through the 90s. Gotta love those bulletproof 'Yotas.

Tip for building, it all depends on the city/county and inspectors. It helps to have a general at least to talk to who knows the ins and outs of the city or county. I pour 200 yds of concrete daily and have a good relationship with most inspectors in my area. Helps everything go smooth

I understand your pain with building a house. My fam is currently constructing a vacation home in St George Utah and the entire process has been delayed time and time again due to shortages and price increases. We purchased the property in august of 2020. Just like your situation our trusses took months to arrive amongst other materials and it’s been a super slow journey. Luckily for us our builders did stand by their initial bid to build this home. As of recently the home has been framed and the windows are in. We’re now waiting on hvac to figure out a solution to fit in ventilation through the trusses, which there are apparently so many thats it’s hard to put in ventilation. Just wanted to let you know you’re not alone and to keep your head up. Building a home is always a doozy but just know It’ll get done

You could get two more sets of those slides, use the locking frame from those, to have dual locks in your build. You'll also have a set of non-locking slides for somewhere, but your 80 will have dual locking slides.

Biggest reason i got rid of my 97 was because of the uncomfortable seats. If i knew about a scheelmann then, i'd still have it. Oh well 😎 Keep up the good work!

Patiently waiting for the Jayco Terrain video bro! The good news is that I found out today from my dealer that the van is capable of running the AC for 8 hours on the house batteries. Runner up is that the rear passenger seats have 3 point safety belts, a plus for my kids.
Yeah the battery system is super robust and combos great with the 48v A/C. The rear seats are definitely a step up vs pretty much all of the similarly spec'd vans out there for sure.
@@LastLineOfDefense yah brotha, great for your fam big time. I thought I would have to get a 12 v Nomad AC to run AC all night. I probably won't need the AC all the time, but my family of 4 will be sleeping in the van at the motocross tracks in Canada. Last year there were some pretty warm evenings in the tent. Stoked the solar panels are 200 watts and cover a ton of the roof top with 4 panels. Love that coverage you have for your van, how do you normally get snow off the roof when on the road? Is there a special brush that extends when you're on the ladder?
I have access to a 1988 FJ62 that my Dad purchased new. Been parked on grass for about 20 years. I know the rockers are shot. Do you have any suggestions if this would be worth saving? Any directions for parts retailers?

HEY MIKE , can i recommend a stadium seat for the space behind the driver side you made to be used in a pinch? they are small take up very little space and can use them on the tail gate as well.
It’s a pain in the ass to get permits, just gotta make friends with the folks at the building department 😭 BTW would be cool to see some videos of the house build 😎

Hi! I own a 2004 land cruiser and I’m looking to make it my mobile home this summer for a couple months while I go off the grid a bit for some road trips around ca and co. I was thinking of getting a roof tent or possibly modifying the interior to make a bed. Do u have any personal recs? Especially for someone going solo…I’ve camped a lot but not for an extended amount of time and would love some tips.
Hey Anna, if you’re planning to live in it full-time and solo, I think sleeping inside the rig might be a little better option. You’d be able to “stealth camp” easier if you end up in a place that you shouldn’t necessarily be camping, but just need a spot to sleep for the night. It’s also a little more secure/safe. You give up some cargo room by having to sleep inside, but I think it’s probably worth the trade-off for the scenarios you might be in.

Both solid options - I love that the Skycamps basically fold out to double the effective sleeping size while still being quick setup/takedown, and really low how easy and quick the setup/takedown of the GFC is and that they're made in 'merica. Though being half korean, I think it's rad that iKampers are made in Korea. Most other brands are made in China.
